PES 2018 BETA Discussion Thread

Well I just found a pretty good way to defend. Select the keeper, hold [] :BOP:

I did leak a few balls, not a lot. Not a big deal anyway, would have leaked as many with actual active defending anyway. And considering the amount of effort I put into it (well, close to 0 effort almost), I'm happy with the success rate.

For my first goal, I actually won the ball back on the edge of opponent 6 yard box, while controlling the keeper and [] pressure lol. Can't be less involved than that.

P.S. I'm joking guys, I'm just testing things, not planning to play like this all year. Alarming tho, how effective it is
new feature, auto defending...:EASY:

every time Drury shouts: "can he fin(n)ish?!" i have to say out loud: "no, danish only" !! :D this running gag i created myself is hard to get rid off now! ;) oh man.... germans making language jokes...!

Have you tried powering up less? I have noticed in the pre-game loading screen a message about the shoot button controlling height of the shot, not power (which is how I've always remembered it). I think the player and ball positioning will control power more than height and if you hold down shoot for less time you'll see lower shots but not necessarily less powerful shots. On basic shooting anyway.

For advanced shooting i am not so sure but i will try it out. In the meantime i stand corrected, low driven shots with curve and a bounce are a real thing:

Lol. . . just thinking about that the other day Lami .. .when I heard it first I thought I had an Egyptian forward on the team which I had overlooked and I'd stop the game and check the team sheet.. ... EL HAMIT IT!

Last night I got a red card at the 64' mark inside the penalty box, and I felt so cheated. It was 1-1. The input delay happens at really weird times, I slide tackled him and I was so sure I would catch the ball but all of a sudden a slight delay reaction was made. I lost 4-1 just minutes later and I raged quit the match, ok sue me now. :BLEH:

I had a guy ragequit when I was just 1-0 up and it was minute 60, so... I must admit I got him pretty much under siege though.

Anyway, playing with PA 0 against PA 1+ players is painful but definitely rewarding.
I just lost a match 2-0 against a guy who was a very good dribbler: he would just dribble through my whole defense with either Griezmann or Lacazette at will, indeed.
I managed to hold out until the end of the first half, trying to keep the ball and to force a slow-tempo, short-pass buildup game then I misplaced a pass at the back (I know, my fault for trying to do a horizontal pass with Miranda to Thiago Silva) and he insta-punished me. 1-0.
In the second half I just couldn't stay focused and I missed a couple of sitters, then he started a counter and with three or four perfectly placed passes he completely cut my defence open... I didn't expect him to start passing all of a sudden, he got me on the back foot and I couldn't react quickly enough. 2-0, minute 84, match over. Yet, I enjoyed that match a whole lot. I really got that feeling of "I could've avoided it had I done this, this and that" feeling that PES can give. :WORSHIP:

yeah, i wonder if this is either because it's a older build and GFX haven't been tweaked yet or it's less stress on servers for beta testing. More important with sports games is smooth frame-rates = good game-play.
It's because it's not viable to hold up 4K resolutions at fuid fps online. However Adam has already said that graphics will be better than this. Still not 4K for online which is understandable.

Graphics looks really poor compare to competitor. Its like day and night, like old and new gen.

HAHAHA! Good one!
Come on... FIFA is like watching a Cartoon Channel for kids. There's really no competition this year in this regard. PES wins hands down.

I'm surprised you'd say that. I haven't read or heard anybody else saying FIFA is better graphically this year. Not one soul.

The pitch color in the beta is barely talked about. Yet there was discussions pAGES long in the past... now it's like no one is really appreciating the positive change. :CONF:

True. I haven't commented on it because I haven't actually watched a single video nor played it myself.
But from the still images (before you press play on any Youtube video embedded here), I can tell it looks impressive.

It is all personal taste at the end of the day but I actually prefer the high contrast and pronounced colours of PES. Yes, it can all look a bit stylised but artistic licence is welcome, and function and clarity over form or uber-resemblance to reality is what I am after. I sit and play this game for hours, so it needs to strike a balance between looking believable as well as being easy on the eye regards being able to clearly see what I am doing. It is why Allianz Parque is my home turf in versus or myClub in PES2017 because it is the best looking not because of its realism in look, but how the turf is a more deep shade of green and the daytime lighting causes kit colour and detail to pop, making the game easier or more comfortable to play.

Even movies and some TV will mess with colour grading and lighting so as to present a certain look, sometimes a look simply not possible with natural light or materials. Its hyper-realism; a stylised vision of reality. No reason at all why football games can't use techniques of a similar nature in order for the eyes to process image and movement more clearly, or for the eyes to feel more relaxed when playing.

If PES were to sign Partick Thistle as a partner club (LOL! Kris Doolan as cover star. Just a shame we ain't got Kingsley as sponsor/mascot any longer) and they captured pitch and lighting data as it is at Firhill in real life, then playing from a cam that sees me viewing from an angle that is close to the perspective from the seat I frequent in the Jackie Husband stand would see the game look hellish in daytime setting.

Meaning that they are selfish and don't pass the ball?
Yeah, I found several of them too. Really, really annoying, they take all the fun away from the match.
Especially when they start to dribble with Thiago Silva or Koscielny, leaving the defence dangerously open when (mind you, not IF but WHEN) they lose the ball.

Yeah i agree. Fortunately in full game we'll make a clan with friends that we know how they play.

Oh god I'm glad the sound on my TV is always off
new feature, auto defending...:EASY:

It's not completely auto, I have to hold one button. But I never have to let go, so that's not too bad. As soon as I lose the ball, I select keeper. Hold []. Wait for my turn in possession.

More one button defending. So far so good:

That means i really need an eye consult asap because i don't agree at all. For me everything looks spot on NG graphics.

Don't know what TV,resolution etc u guys play on.

Ps: talking about Xbox One version and PS4 one, i've played on both consoles.

Could you please report this to Adam and OfficialPES, would be nice to have them avoid this for the full game.

I have to agree FIFA is much more polished, i can really appreciate how they get the feeling of match day across. It certainly helps me getting all pumped up. Did not like 2017 though, I hope they have gotten to grips with frostbite this year.

PES simply does not have the resources for all these things, its a shame but i do not mind that much. If animations are good, the grass is green and the goalposts are white, i am happy.
Like Curdstar i can appreciate the game having a more unrealistic, brighter style. After all, its not football, its a game representing football. I rather have a slightly impressionistic style, something that hints to reality but is inside its own game-world, then something which is trying to be 100% realistic but does not succeed in this (due to lack of resources).

Sorry to sound like a grandpa but I guess when you been brought up with DOS games you know that gameplay counts and that sometimes a more minimalistic style, one which leaves something to your imagination, can be just as, or more, effective in sucking you in as a hyper realistic simulation. As long as the game is a whole and graphics are doing the gameplay justice, there can be magic.

If i must choose between perfect lightning effects or details like Edgar Davids wearings his glasses, then i would always go for those small realistic details that make the game come to live. They matter just as much as pure graphical realism. But to say one is better as the other is pointless, just different approaches, different art styles, different tastes.
