PES 2015 Discussion Thread (PS4/XB1)

Re: PES 2015 Discussion Thread

Personally I think this new footage looks really promising. I think everyone's main problem with 2014 was that the responsiveness of the players made every aspect of the game a bit more frustrating than it should be, and I agree with that sentiment.

I love 2014 for what it is, but I've been playing a lot of PES 5 and 6 over the last few weeks and love the responsiveness of those games. Everything feels really instant and direct - if you want to shoot at goal with a defender rushing towards you, it's still possible to get a quick shot on goal because the game reacts so fast to button presses.

The view that I take with "ice-skating" and animation glitches is that they are almost a necessary evil if you want the game to respond quickly to what you want it to do. Animations need to be able to break in mid-flow if you want that instant shot as the player might be in the middle of a run animation. You can see this type of animation behaviour all the time in PES 5/6, especially when the boot doesn't even connect with the ball as it's too far in front of the player.

I'm sure with modern IK systems and clever animation blending (and adding more animations, which is probably the key), much of this can be solved, but I feel Konami are in a "damned if you do, damned it you don't" situation. If they kept the unresponsiveness of 2014 we could have perfect animation as the player could take an extra step to get closer to the ball rather than ice-skating towards it. But in this scenario the player would never have the instant control that people obviously want.

I'll take a bit of ice-skating and the occasional animation glitch for a game that reacts instantly to my input. I understand that it'll take Konami a ridiculous amount of time to add all of the thousands of animations the game would need to make every animation transition look 100% realistic. Having said all this, if the glitches are present and the game still reacts slowly to button presses, obviously my opinion will change, but currently I'm really excited to try out 2015.

There is GOLD in this comment. Skating may be a byproduct of the desire for instant responsive controls. Interesting. Never thought of that.

Re: PES 2015 Discussion Thread

Does anyone know how long the pes 2015 site has been up i cant read much of it on my phone but its crazy the site is up and has no trailer on it utter madness i say.

Re: PES 2015 Discussion Thread

There's something in that shooting animation that made this virtual RVP really look like it's real life counterpart.

Awesome.

Gotta give some credits to Adam here. Really Nice job.

Agreed. When controlling the ball and shooting, RVP does something with his hands and arms in real life that Konami have managed to emulate in that clip where he turns and shoots. Impressive.

Re: PES 2015 Discussion Thread

Do think the responsiveness will affect inertia and momentum?

As much as I want it to be fluid the inertia and momentum must be there. IRL a player has to set his body positioning in order to hit a pass or shot with the right pace and accuracy

Momentum and inertia are still in, don't you worry.

Re: PES 2015 Discussion Thread

The animation snapping may indeed be the result of trying to get instant response from the players, but you still need smoothing between them, even if the previous animation is abruptly interrupted. All the modern engines with versions released to the public (Unreal, Cry, Unity) have animation systems able to do this automatically, that's why I find it very odd that we're seeing this, even in development stages. Surely it's there in Fox Engine...

As for the momentum, I think Konami knows which kind of animations can't be interrupted so quickly in order to retain the inertia of foot planting.

Re: PES 2015 Discussion Thread

The peculiar thing about pes is that it thrives on the principles traditional game design tries to eliminate-unpredictability,clumsiness,inconsistency,and the feeling, however irrational, that the game is unfolding to a dramatic, deified, and unavoidable outcome irrespective of the frenzied action of its protagonists..it is,at its most scripted,a terrible video game-and,as such an almost perfect simulation of football.

You coo in glee as the ball rustles the net. Then curse the heavens as the same shot, from the same angle, with the same striker, rattles the post and skids wide.

One second you're dominating possession, passing fluidly and admiring the telepathic runs of your teammates, the next cursing as your star midfielder is inexplicably shrugged off balance by a weaker opponent-who proceeds to dance, riding tougher tackles, past your hapless defenders.

No outcome is guaranteed, all you can do is maximise the odds..infuriating?often.Unfair?possibly.But the compulsion lies in taming the unpredictable, using a combination of your hard earned skills, experience and sheer bloody minded force of will. You won't,can't,win every tackle. But experience teaches you to minimise the risk when the ball bobbles loose. You know that strikers are prone to fluff shots in key positions. But by following up aggressively, when your opponent is flushed with relief, you can raise your chances of finding the net.

Pes success lies in its central dichotomy-a world ruled by chaos, but tamed by precision.

This is why pes is and always will be the purists game!..it's all about the gameplay.

Re: PES 2015 Discussion Thread

all the vids are from ingame replays and look really good.
i dare all the nitpickers that complain about sliding, footplanting and bad animation to give me some ingame videos of FIFA at about the same angle that look better or atleast the same.
you can even use ps4 footage.

Re: PES 2015 Discussion Thread

So we cant complain, or what was actually happening, wishing it be improved... Because fifa has the same issues?

Ummm. What?

yes we can, but not in the manner that some do, as if there is something much better out there and they can't believe KONAMI is producing such a inferior and dated product.

in all the videos only the skating before Neymars shot felt a bit off.
the way the ball sits on the grass as if the grass is really there:SHOCK:, the curling physics after Baloteli's shot, his follow through:APPLAUD:,the way Shurlle had to hit the ball to keep it down cause it was bouncing:), the way Neur reacted cause he was preparing to go after the expected shot and the way the ball skipped on the grass after the pass from Hummels:WORSHIP:.
still the only thing that stood out for some, was the skating:RANT:?
that's just insane:MAD:!

Re: PES 2015 Discussion Thread

PES is alive and well friends. Feel really good watching these vids. Hopefully the gameplay is well balanced.

Re: PES 2015 Discussion Thread

Those real-life models looks amazing.

They are made with the in-game "Physique" editor without doubt which is as well complete to create homonymous players in terms of proportions, they do the same for every version, but damn they do it very well.

I don't know what system they use, if the have data or whatever else, but it's hard to believe that this rendering it's just made by observation.
