Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)
Right. Tried the demo. Love it. No idea how to play it properly yet, but first impressions are good.
- The game feels more 'free than before, haven't noticed any feeling of being on 'rails' at all yet.
- Like the difference in lighting if you choose daytime matches in summer or winter. Winter has a subtle brownish hue to the pitch and lighting. That's nice.
- Animations and physics seem superb.
- Somehow the game just feels like proper football. The flow of the game, the passing intricacies, it's all spot on.
What I'm not sure I like about it though is:
- Really, really disappointed with the graphics (graphics, NOT animation). For Konami to brag about the engine so much, and that apparently this game would look so 'amazing', it's really quite average for a PS3 game. Textures are practically on a par with PES2013 in terms of in-game sharpness, and the graphics are still absolutely miles off other titles you get on PS3. Drake's Fortune, NBA 2K, Last of Us etc, this is miles behind. It is on old hardware, yes, but it feels like Konami were struggling with current gen and understandably made sacrifices for the sake of frame rate etc. Next-gen should be awesome.
- Crowd and commentary is appalling as usual. I'm not sure why a Man Utd match has 15,000 scousers at the game, or why they're chanting 'Man U, Man U FC, OK!'. Baffling.
- Lofted through-balls. It's been a concern of mine seeing so many goals scored from lofted through-passes, and sure enough, the COM scores one against me where the ball zooms like crazy across the pitch and the attacker is miles in the clear.
- Players feel a little too 'light' for my taste, where all this stuff about players feeling too heavy and turning like oil tankers came from, I'll never know. It feels just a fraction like players are skating.
Overall, pleased with it, but still have a little bit of disappointment about the game graphically. The animations are amazing, but pitch textures and overall fidelity is pretty poor. I don't know why Konami can't make their PES games sharp on current consoles, for such an amazing engine and 'lifelike' graphics as they touted about this game, it's baffling how it's still a lot worse in detail and sharpness than any number of PS3 games currently out there.
