Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

OK, it's my opinion, but Asim was right. Opinion based on PS3 version.

It may have new engine, physics, animations and better keepers and AI, but the old problems from this gen's PES games are here.

My biggest problems:

- player switching

- input lag is severe, and many times commands are not registered
several times pressed super cancel and the shot indicator disapperead, but the player performed the canceled move

- the visual quality is sub standard for me on PS3, sorry but it's the end of 2013 and this is not, what I expect. Based on all the previews, EDGE magazine article, and even videos. Did they town down graphics again? I'm not really into programming and designing video games, but shouldn't be the way, that I create solid gameplay base with responsiveness, fluent gameplay, and later I try to add the bells and whistles till the engine limitation. Konami made it to the maximum visual quality at the beginning and than tries to solve things by dumbing down everything to reach decent gameplay.

I agree, that this can be a solid foundation for the future, but come on, we have been waiting for 7 years now

And the popularity is worrying: on Hungarian PSN store: fifa demo downloads 28K, Pes 3K (I guess it's not the Hungarian stat, but UK)

I will give it a go on PC before I decide to buy the game.

What do you think, on a core i5 laptop with 4Gb Ram and an ATI 6470M with 1 Gbyte Ram will I be able to run the game on decent quality?

http://whatculture.com/gaming/fifa-14-vs-pes-14-9-reasons-why-fifa-14-will-win-the-war.php

The real title for is.

'9 Straws EA clutched at when we saw PES 2014 in action'

That is shocking. At no point does any of them reasons mention game play.

I have played about 10 games today and like it better any previous demo. The animations are far better than we have seen before, but the graphics aren't as amazing as I expected. The konami stadium turf looks much better of the two in the demo and makes the game loom better.

Getting used to controlling other players with L1 and r3 takes some getting used to. My best goals so far have come from players making runs that I haven't controlled like scheiwnsteger bursting through the middle of the park from behind my player

I love the pace of the game, it is fast when it should be and realistically slow most of the time. Players that are fast get up to faster speeds than in previous versions when given space. Not sure , but I think that the frequency or rhythm that you hit R2 makes a difference to just hitting it randomly.

The worst thing I am finding is the stutter on the ps3. This happens sometimes in game play and is horrific in replays

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

About graphics: The game has amazing lighting and accurate player models, but that's about it. Still much better than the competition though.

I don't know about that, it seems to me that PES 2014 is miles ahead...way a head. Anyway, it is your opinion, but I'd suggest you give it another try. The game takes sometime to get used to...

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Can someone really confirm that the UK and ASIAN Demos are more responsive, less laggish and overall better than the other ones?

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Exactly. I made that choice 3 years ago. Never looked back.

Me too :WORSHIP:

I have downloaded the demo today on my ps3 but my television is not good enough. I don't see the whole field.
But besides that, the PES 2014 demo is far more fun to play then the fifa demo on my pc. I already pre-ordered my pes game, and i am glad to. The ML where you can switch clubs :WORSHIP:

I'll be amazed if it isnt a case of placebo effect regarding US vs UK. Winning Eleven Demo is more believable as I think that game is more customised for the Japanese and usually has a different feel to it.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Its has to be just placebo effect. The mind is a very powerful thing.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Actually often it is very frustrating when you dribble some defender and when you are past him you are unable to unstick from him...

Globally the game is very good at the moment. More time/hammering will tell.

Use the right stick to jostle otherwise they can pull you back and slow you down from sprinting away from them.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Guys i was having some trouble heading the ball inside the area(With :square:), the player wouldn't react to my button press.... but I just tryed to use the :x: instead.... and it really works.... just scored a few nice head goals with it(I'm playin on Manual, don't know if you can do that with assistance) :?

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

The most ridicoulus article i've ever seen. Really?

wtf.gif

They forgot to mention that PES 2014 has Better Gameplay.

Spot on. On the field, PES 2014 has no equal, even it's unfinished state. This picks up right where PES 5 and 6 left off.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Been playing Fifa only on full manual since 09 and before that PES ofc. :)
Getting tired of the abusive gameplay most Fifa players use, and yeah, at some point the game is to be blamed. Whatever, not talking about Fifa here.

I tried PES 2013 (manual ofc) last year and liked it up to the point where it made little sense. The players often was unaware of what was going on, they had no idea where the ball or other players were and woke up from that very late. It became tedious and very frustrating.
This demo show a lot of progress in that area. I must say the gameplay feels so nice while on manual and I hope more people will discover and "convert" to the "proper" way of playing PES. ;)

No Fifa for me this year. FINALLY! ;)

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Really enjoying this. So many little touches as well as quite bold ones. I'm off it for today but has anyone checked the command list to understand exactly what holding left or right on the d-pad does? Looks like it controls the defensive line, which is an interesting idea. I presume it pushes the rest of the team up too, in case someone's just passing it across their backline?

What do people make of the advanced through ball and shooting options? The through ball seems like great fun, played a couple of absolutely cracking through balls to wingers so far. Here's hoping it doesn't turn out to be too effective after a while, or to undermine individuality. I'm in no position to make that call in any aspect of the game, right now I'm enjoying trying to get to grips with the whole thing which means making a lot of mistakes myself.

My first two games seemed to have a different feel to the next 5 or so on the same version. If I had switched version I would have thought it was down to switching

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Played a few games and i like it. Demos a bit too short to get into.
can you change game speed on demo? If so, I cant find it.

agree with one or two others when they say it dont look as good as i thought it was going too.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

PC....choose all three @ 1080p + 60fps. :))

Thing is I don't believe it's a hardware issue. There are dozens of games on PS3 with the same animation quality (even in sports titles like NBA 2K) with far better levels of detail and sharpness. Now, PES2014 looks stunning up close in replays but stick it on wide cam and its as blurry as PES2013.

Fair enough, but not good enough given just how much Konami bragged how we'd be blown away by this new engine. It's graphically still far behind the NBA series of games that are even now several years old.

The game itself is ace though, no complaints there, but given how NBA has the animations AND graphical quality, going back several several years now, we'll, Konami seem to have been bullshitting a touch.

I mean, I remember someone saying the pitch looked so amazing that it left marks in the turf when sliding in. The final version has flat, patchy textures worse in my opinion than in PES 2011.

Nice to hear from you Rom ;)

When attacking left to right, tap right on the D-Pad twice to initiate a Manual Offside-Trap.

I'm using Advanced on both Through-Ball and Shooting, loving it.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

I just got a pen from a standing tackle where my player didn't fall over *faints*

Whats the advantage of Advanced Shooting?

Advanced Through Ball is really nicely balanced. I've always struggled with them on manual, and they're far too effective on assisted, so it's a nice compromise.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

One thing I have noticed is that well timed sliding tackles often result in a foul. Not sure if it is down the the attributes of the individual player as the players I have had booked for it are not renowned for their tacking

Does anyone know if the skills on that video on the last page are down to skill cards because I am having problems pulling them off

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO FIFA DEMO TALK IN HERE!)

Actually it is not just a case of graphics and fidelity when it comes to hardware and processing power. Here's some excerpt from Milestone (MotoGP 13 developer) talking about animation:

10. How long did it take you to process all the motion capture data and implement
in game?

AB: As a first step we collected several videos and photo of the real environments where all the
action happens live and we analyzed them to figure out how to reproduce all the same movements
and emotions in the game. The second step, reached thanks to the help of an expert team – such
as AUDIOMOTION STUDIOS of Oxford and a professional stuntman – was the grabbing. Usually
in motion capture recorded scenes, the actor is the unique moving subject. In MotoGP™13,
instead, we had to integrate the dynamics of the bike and the rider, with the aim to reproduce the
movements and falls of the rider in the most realistic way. For this reason we made a chassis
to simulate a real MotoGP™ Bike – with a stuntman riding it – and both were thrown/launched/
accelerated. In order to decide which scenes fit our concept perfectly, we conducted long research
work to identify the most famous and meaningful MotoGP™ falls, celebrations and movements.
Furthermore, every rider has 5 different riding styles and 5 ‘bike poses’, depending on the riding
position in and off bike’s fairing; up to an amount of 50 different conditions. The physics in each
frame included around 20 input parameters (speed, acceleration, leaning angle, clutch, angular
momentum, etc…). This generates 1000 conditions, which means that every rider has 1000 states
and infinite progressions between them. This means, in MotoGP™13 it is impossible to see two
riders, at the same time, going into the same corner, with the same pose, all riders will move and
pose differently around each corner.

Sure it is different game, but you get the idea. Imagine the same concept applied to all 22 living characters and miscellaneous objects in PES 2014. This is different than action game when most of the time the characters only limited in one scene. Developer have to make sure their game able to run on acceptable frame rate. Current gen console already reach its limitation.

Could be a poorly optimised engine or just plain bad coding by Konami. All I can say is PES2013 on PC barely brings my graphics card out of idle mode (and that's with graphical mods installed) yet looks substantially better than the console versions. I know the 360 and PS3 are ageing platforms but PES doesn't seem to be a particularly demanding game. Perhaps you are right to demand better graphics from this game, especially at the end of the console cycle when all the graphical tricks and exploits should be known.
