Fingers crossed that Pés 2014 is going to be released on the american Plus as well.

It seems that the game hás changed a lot over the months and I am really curious to see how it plays now.

I think I'll retry the game when it goes onto PS Plus for free. This game keeps coming back to me like a particularly smelly, turd addled boomerang.

Oh well. It'll be interesting to see what the patches have done. GET READY FOR THE RAAAAAAGE!!!

Mate it's gonna be tough to enjoy especially when uv been playing the other game on NG.

:P

We'll see. I'll spend my entire time with the game trying to score from long range, no goals from outside the box, and I'll be deleting it straight away. Last time I had the game it felt like a hollow shell lacking that PES magic, let's see what the patches brought. I shan't be too forgiving though, since getting rid of the game in November I've been enjoying too many games that were actually ready for release!

I scored 2 in 2 games last night, one was Rooney, one was RVP. By long range I mean midrange really, 22-24 yards out, the keeper's hand was a good couple of feet away from both. They were both belters.

Whether the game is now playable long-term is another matter, but there are definitely a lot of noticeable changes in areas we've all complained about. It's weird that Konami have patched it quite so severely in March, when the effort should very much be focussed on the next gen and the next title. I suppose it's with the DLC in mind, and a lot of the tweaking they're making will probably carry across to current gen 2015?

Would it have been such a trainsmash ig Konami released the game now instead with the added game modes for the world cup?

I imagine it would sell better and would be better recieved or am I being naive?

Not naive
The game now is playable, was unplayable at release
I'm not only talking about gameplay, i'm talking about frequent slowdowns everywhere on Ps3

It's all true, but then people would still complain and point out how dumb Konami are and shit for allowing the competitor 6-7 months head-start.

Meh.

Okay, tried the latest incarnation of this game (PS3) and it is indeed playable...but shallow. In fact, I'd love this game as an iPad app for a quick match or two on the way to work or while the missus watches X Factor.

PES 2014, in its new state, plays like a homage to old PES. It has the shooting of PES 2010/11 and the AI and passing of PES 2013. What it's got even less of is player individuality and this combined with a bare bones Master League by way of things to do means this really is not what Konami should be promoting as a full game.

All the "heart system" and the right-stick body swerves that was supposed to take the franchise forward have now been so diluted that's it embarrassing they were ever used as a selling point for the game.

It's taken six months now for Konami to admit (without actually saying so) that they made huge mistakes with this game and now what we are left with is closer to PES 2013. No bad thing but they didn't need the Fox Engine for that.

Hopefully, all the while these patches have been coming, a whole team of developers has been working to ensure there is something in PES 2014 worth taking forward to produce a FULL game this year.

It wouldn't have needed to be 6 months to be honest - the speed of making these fixes is a lot quicker when you aren't having to release the fixes publicly in 10 steps.

At the same time, I doubt they'd have identified some of what has infuriated us all as problems. So they could have released by Dec/Jan, but have still needed a few patches to get up to speed.

Heart system and RS inertia dribbling never worked as described.
They only made the game worse than it could have been at release

But like you said i hope they will continue to improve on inertia and heart systems. Both ideas were good and had a next gen feeling

Ohh man I just had the best game! Was 3-0 up with Liverpool against Norwich in the Cup, 12 minutes left, game over, thinking of switching out my tired or carded players (stamina seems to drain a lot faster post-patch, at least according to the gameplan menu). They get one back, whatever, I make 3 changes. then they get another one, and I get nervous. Pass the ball around in the back, but they are persistent, get the ball back and make it 3-3! I am not glad at this point, this has all happened in 8 or so gametime minutes. So it's 88 or 89 minutes, I go all out attack. get a couple of chances, no luck. Last minute corner, my keeper comes up, but no dice. overtime passes, ball goes out of play in my half. I throw it in and hoof it. Left flank is open, I run up and fire it into the box along the ground, along comes Skrtel to tap it in! Fist pumps all around! That's what I call PES!

I could moan about how long it has taken Konami to get their act together, and how poor it is to release an unfinished mess like they did with this year's iteration of PES. I could even compain about how poor the referees are in this game, and they still are poor, but I'm going to use this time to congratulate Konami. Who would have thought we'd ever see a patch that addresses so many different game breaking issues. It's hard to believe, really.

I've played nearly 10 games now since the newest patch was released and I've probably scored 5-6 goals throughout all of them. I've had a couple of 0-0s whilst also getting dicked on a few times. Chelsea were 3-0 up inside 40 minutes. The game finished 3-1. I've even struggled to beat Hull with Napoli. All of this is testament at just how much the game has been improved with the patch. It's infinitely better.

Players don't enjoy rocket acceleration any longer. They can't beat their man simply by cutting inside every single time. Defenders don't lose their shape, leaving huge holes for the opposition to exploit. It's no longer a case of simply pressing Y to unlock the opposition defence. You can't just send a big long through ball up from the half way line to enjoy a one on one with the goal keeper. Responsiveness is so much better. I feel like I can control any player on the field, as quick as I like, whenever I like. Goalkeepers don't perform like Sunday league players. Shots aren't floaty anymore. CPU AI pass the ball effectively, and they shoot outside of the box when the opportunity presents itself.

PES is not perfect. I have witnessed some stuttering animations a few times. I actually think the game is a little less fluid, and the refereeing is still shambolic. But now we can play a deep football game and be presented a challenge by intelligent CPU AI. We score and we feel satisfaction because we've had to earn it. We go 90 minutes without conceding and we feel good about it because we know we had to perform well in order to achieve it.

It's important we still communicate to Konami where they can improve the game, but some people are going as far to say that the patch isn't a massive improvement over the previous version. That I just cannot understand on any level.

What does heart and inertia have to do with next gen? Inertia is actually quite simple and has been implemented in different games since at least early 2000's. The heart feature is no different than morale, happiness and every other simple gimmick implemented in games since the dawn of computer games.

EDIT: Inertia was used in Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) and you also have the original Prince of Persia (1989).

I was talking about the idea to shift body weight with right stick, never done in a football game
heart idea was very innovative in their intentions, they said particular moments of a match could affect players performances. It was intended to be much more dynamic than morale

Thanks for the impressions! What system are you on, ps3 or xbox 360? Cheers!

Playing on PS3. Correction for passing - I actually am playing on 1 bar, not 2, and through balls are now basically manual. Not sure how much passing has changed on 2 bars :)

I just finished one season as Villa and was relegated with 27 points. Beat arsenal and Liverpool. Got crushed by just about everyone else. I must have hit the post 25 times. Its not perfect but I just can't stop playing. Can I make it back up in one year?

If PS4 exclusive means proper optimization then I'm all for it.

+1

Effective utilisation of resources. Why spend all that resources developing on every platform unser yhe sun when the bulk of your sales come from one platform with small increments eating into coat, production time and in so doing quality.

Still think it will be available on Pc amd Xbone though. It would be too many much of a change to a PS exclusive title. There is also no way in hell they will not release a PS3 version

Hey guys!Since I cannot post a new topic I thought of posting..

I am just fed up with the ps3 version. It is unplayable online. You know the usual :the response from the players is so laggy, the frame rate is almost zero in replays and in critical sections of the game etc. My guess is that it is the worst port of pes. How is the xbox 360 version? I want your opinion from someone who has actually played both ps3 and xbox 360 version and be honest please. I am only interested about ONLINE play.

Ps: I hate Fifa..

In South Africa on a 10mbps line against ruropean players I have no lag so it may be your connection. Check your ping on your line and that you dont have background downloads or streaming on othet electronics

My PS3 version only has stutter on team lineup opening scenes. Nothing after that crowded goal areas are smooth and speed consistent

PS we all hate Fifa ;)

CPU superstar of patch 1.10 easier than 1.07,
I use Arsenal always win Real,Barca :BOP:

That's a problem with the game and have been for a while really, not only PES2014. Certain teams aren't as good as they should be and in the case of Barcelona and Real Madrid there are several particular issues that makes them really easy to beat with nearly any opposition.

1. My players are generally extremely motivated against these teams

2. Their strategies are very offensive and extremely weak towards midfield pressure and counter attacks.

3. They aren't creating tactical free kicks to stop my best breaks.

4. The AI doesn't fully take advantage of the technical advantage they have against most human opponents.

I usually fix this issue by bumping up form by 1 for most/all players in these teams. I increase Tenacity by around 5 points to make them resilient and have better work ethics. I change their team formation and strategy slightly and make them more eager to defend a lead at the cost of realism since they don't really play like in real life no matter what you do. I try to find a middle way between real life and what's actually effective in the game but I haven't found a definite solution just yet. AI teams seems to be more effective when using a 4-5-1 formation, so for Barcelona I push the wide SS down slightly as wings which also makes sure the central SS spot is where Messi is positioned. The attacking formation (3) is nearly identical to the default one with 3 SS. I'm having a harder time breaking them down now at least, and they score more against me.
--------

From one thing to another. First I want to credit Konami with a fantastic patch. In fact I think the last two patches has improved the game immensely and especially the last one. Well done. What I don't understand is how they needed so many patches to tweak the game into what it should've been on release or at least very soon after.

Aside from an oddity here and there, which I can live with, there's still the remaining issue of keepers being extremely weak against near post shots from near dead angle. Any player with 80 or more Finishing is easily able to sneak the ball in consistently from this angle and it's stupid. Especially annoying that this is the main channel for AI goals. I want the defender catch up toned even more down which will make the AI more dangerous when clear on goal and I want the AI to be even better at taking out depth when unable to pressure ball carrier to make up for decreased defender catch up. This has to be a strategy based on the pace level of the defense in comparison to the speed of attacking team, like in real life.

After the latest patch, despite some flaws, there is no doubt that this is the pinnacle of football games so far. It might not be as good or flawless as expected a few years ago but it's not far off. I am very positive for the next iteration and I will be extremely disappointed if it turns out to be a console only release.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I currently live in Germany and I have a 150Mbps cable connection. The connection is super A class always at the pingtest.com. I always keep my connection clean (no downloads, spyware etc.). I have very good results according to the pingtest.com throught Europe. So my connection is no an issue..I don't know man its so frustrating I cannot enjoy a football game in 2014 wtf
