I had 5 games yesterday in ML as Liverpool.
The most wonderful matches in my whole PES life for sure !
Difficult to win but easier to dribble and handle the players
the Keepers (at least IMO) are better for sure.
Not Debatable !

Suppose so, you loved it a few days ago, I'll probably feel the same as you in a couple of days, the biggest problem for me is the speed which leads to a goalfest every match.
Prefer an Italian style 1-0 chess match to be honest!

About match progress (goalfest or not), i feel that it should depends on formation and strategy and not so much on game speed. Even if you put the gamespeed on +2, if you play against a defensive team or against a team that plays catenaccio, you shouldn't score much goals.

And the 2 football games have very shallow strategy system.

I pray for a football title that will have the formation + strategy system of football manager. If only SI & sega could release a playable football game!

Even when the game first came out when you turned the speed to +1 the players became much more responsive and handled better, the problem was that the game became faster as a result in other areas where it did not make it a better experience. From reading about the patch it makes it sound as if they've just switched 0 for +1 or something nearish to it to make it seem better. I wonder if anybody could shed light on whether this is true?

The game doesn't need to be faster at all. It is already quite fast to begin with. I'm only bringing this up because I'm sure Konami have done something similar for the past few years now. Gradually the game gets faster as the more patches role into play.

Unless it's drastically changed lately then this is what I found too. PES 2014 is pretty good for those calculated games because it's so easy to have your defence ripped open if you put too much into attack. If you don't want to concede then look to score sneakily, on a counter or from a set-piece rather than from having 30 shots on goal and hoping 1 goes in.

I think the issue is that it's so easy to launch a full assault on the other team that you, as the player, don't stop to think you're doing anything untoward. That's a tactical element to the game it doesn't really demand but which can be utilised.

Still, attacking is probably a bit too easy and getting players forward and getting shots on goal is way too easy. Some people here dislike the shooting but the whole attack-thing is very unrewarding because it's too simple. I do prefer the way a lot of the older games worked in so far as attacking was an art-form.

Are you using tricks or just R2 for those turns? Is auto faint off?

I have noticed I can do pretty good dribbles if you run with R1 down and keep tapping R2 with slight changes in direction

PES 2013 I kept R2 down for turns in 2014 I only use R2 for initial trapping.
When you are playing with your back to goal your player does that annoying turn on this year's game. Just reading body movement and momentum I preempt the CPUS body and go for it with R1 to burst through a gap. I need to add that this is Lorenzo Insigne and he is a dribbling genius. I don't get this right with many.

Also worth noting that in the last 15 minutes and fresh legs you can wreak havok with the likes of Callejon, Mehrtens and Insigne. Full speed and slight changes in direction releasing R1 will leave defenders for dead.

I use auto feint off.

I have noticed the fresh legs thing. I have player called Wellington Nem, who isn't particularly blessed with anything but good acceleration. I have kept a hold of him for five seasons as he has an uncanny ability for coming on late and winning big games. My last two european cup finals were won by him coming off the bench and scoring in the last 5 minutes.

In the last of these Falcao had the ball at feet and was trying to sprint and just about to be caught by their defence and Nem burst past him and took the ball on to score

No doubt this is the best playing PES since PES 6 for me but I wish Konami could have improved the shooting and defensive headers more. There's just something not quite right with either on any of the settings. Irritating really considering there's going to be no more gameplay patches.

There could be at least one more gameplay patch, masked in the usual "various tweaks to all modes" catchphrase, if Konami decides to add 2014 Copa Libertadores tournament. They did it for 2012 and 2013 ...

Maybe. But for me WE9LE remain the King! Better and perfectly stats based passing and shooting system. Perfect balance between defence and attack, much better built-up attacks from CPU.

Really, i can't find much that PES 2014 is superior to WE9LE (and this is sad). Only speed and 360 motion.

PES 5 (never played WE9LE) is still the best PES in my view, but PES 2014 is my pick of the litter this generation. Didn't enjoy PES 2008-2013 at all.

Awesome Napoli attack :WORSHIP:

Funny thing is I find San Siro one of the "slower" stadiums :)) Also night games are slower than day, and also at night it plays better.

They a great team yeah. Lots of depth and Inler, Dzemaili, Behrami, Hamsik all have something to offer and complement Pandev and Higuan upfront.

Really enjoy playing with them

Sadly there is no fairness in football and this team had to go out of the Champions with 10 points, while we have to watch various leverkusens being whiped the floor with. :/

Or Milan going through with 6 points. Chelsea lost a couple of games too I think and still went through. They should be like swimming heats where the best teams go through overall, not per group.

Its interesting to hear of people liking the dribbling in the game, it's one area along with general responsiveness which i think isn't good this year at all. Even after the new patches.

Its not as good as last year with the main point on how slowly the player moves and turns with normal Left stick usage. Its one part the player moves too slowly, this affects every other aspect of the game and makes first time shots, volleys, goalkeeper positioning and many other aspects suffer since the difference between the sprint speed and dribble speed is too big! This leads to players stopping to adjust themselves too much and become locked onto rails on way too many because of this. Most of all the issue is players take too many touches to turn in general, this is all players regardless of ability. Something I've noticed since playing a lot of PES 2013 again how much better it manages change of pace for players compared to 2014.

PES 2013 is on the old engine but it's not on rails hardly at all (*cough* stumbling animation*) compared to 2014 where players get locked into rails as soon as any sprinting starts or finishes especially for headers in general and air balls.

This at the moment is bad for the short term but i like and appreciate Konami's long term vision here. Get the basics right, get players moving realistically and fluidly in the most basic ways done first and right then later build on it and make it better. Where 2014 clearly improves over 2013 is the right stick turns and feints which are gorgeous when executed and work really well. Everything looks and performs really well removing all the horrible, jerking, warping and snapping to grid from last years old engine.

The general responsiveness isn't good enough yet for us to see proper dribbling yet, Konami as you can see have made efforts to help alter and improve this so in later patches Messi and other small, agile dribblers do seem better and are able to dribble more effectively. Hopefully next year dribbling with be in two parts. The same PES 2014 dribbling when the left stick is pressed down for 'safe dribbling' and an PES 2013 system for normal movement, obviously without all the horrible last engine jerkyness.

As for the tactics, it's very good just like since 2011, issues are heart matches its redundant and the general responsiveness isn't good enough yet for tactics to show consistently for the full game but hey work very well, better than last year technically by some way, it's just not really as an all round product yet. Its one one hand never going to have as many options as Football Manager but it's actually quite close in terms of effectiveness.

I feel the same for the dribbling system and the "on rails" feel. Very well said!

One more thing i feel bad is that the first touch is so perfect, and so the ball feels somehow glued to the player's foot. Ball has to be more of a free object, to rebound more and to be at a bigger distance from the foot while dribling and with not so many foot touches ( medium dribble speed is needed fot this ).

These ^ + better keepers and i think we can make a place for PES 14 next to PES 5/6.

Ironically again first touch was better and more varied in player ability in PES 2013. Also tricks had a fail element to them unlike now where rainbow flicks are 100% perfect every time again. It shows PES 2013 in gameplay was finished and developed over the years. PES 2014 is a first attempt and not a finished one.

PES is the future, there is so much potential here:

Its strange that they have R1 to stop dead, much like R2 did in previous games. To have a press and hold of the sprint button to come to a sudden stop seems almost backward in its design... :CONFUSE:

Is this worth picking up again or what since the patch?

On a side note, I have been playing pes 2013 and enjoying it quite a bit on zero assistance in a little master league. Is player development still borked?

The sudden-ness of that stop relies largely on the speed before the stop and if you're in a duel. It isn't as definite as before and it doesn't always work as you intend it to do if you're pressured.

Yeah it's a bit of a mind fuck. The R2 function as well. I suppose I agree with the default close dribble but feel this years dribble mechanics are no o it as intuitive as pes the last few years

I am playing some amazing games with 1.07 now, replaying CL qualifiers. 0 speed, stats - speed and esplosive power - -10, basic shooting. The game flow is near total greatness! :BRMM:

I would also definitely say dribling is improved with the new patch. Now if only someone gave us more fouls...

Things seem to have gotten worse for me after installing patch 1.07.

While the patch appears to have fixed the lag around the penalty area, I'm experiencing frequent screen tearing issues, especially in crowded penalty box situations. I thought I had escaped screen tearing for good since migrating from PC to PS3 but annoyingly, it has come back.

I've tried all the suggested tips I've come across online to minimize stutter/lag, e.g. running on 720p, installing on PS3 hard drive, turning off auto-feint, changing game speed, but to no avail.

I don't remember it being so bad before patch 1.07. Does anyone else experience this? Any suggested solutions to remedy this?

P.S. I'm running WE2014 (BLAS) but it should be no different from PES2014.

The game does play a lot better post-patch (PS3). I've been giving it another go and there is a lot to admire now most of the faults have been irradiated/reduced. But I have a couple of questions which I feel may help me get properly into this:

1. How often do you find the need to use the right-stick tricks? I'm getting caught in possession far too much trying to use this when maybe I don't need to.

2. Defending. R2 does nothing now right? I'm trying to use X to hold players up but around the box it seems the CPU just breezes past me.

I feel like this is my last chance to get something out of this game otherwise it's back to PES 2013 or maybe even 2010!

I would try using the Right stick in all physical tussles, its good and looks well animated but a bit too much on rails at the moment, its important to get used to. Right stick is wonderful for V-Feints and turns when defenders come up to you, it's worthwhile practicing with it.

I'm not sure when i'll play this again, i'm fully integrated with PES 2013 all the way at this moment. I can now upload some full matches, the first one shows the Art of defending in 2013.

Thanks Klashman.

I have to admit that I'm fighting the temptation to go back to PES 2013. If only the ML player development wasn't so exaggerated. How are you getting around that?

It's just X now, you don't even need the directional buttons really, just hold X to track and contain the man. If the player you are tracking is jinking around or a quick mover i tend to tap x as and when you need to because if the other player does a sharp turn for instance and you are holding X, he can lose you completely while you change direction.

the other important thing which took me a while to get used to was let go of R1 at all times unless you are actually closing down the opponent to try and get the ball. R1 makes your defender home in on the target and unless timed correctly the opposition player is just going to breeze past you.
