I enjoyed PES 2011 the most even offline, really enjoyed my ML at that time. I'd not played the game for a few years since 2008 so it was fresh and something different at the time.

Plus, in ML, you could, y'know, actually do stuff.

Having no replays during the training sessions is annoying me, it'd be to have several looks at all the beautiful things accomplished during it.

If you're going to play 2009 I suggest you try 2010. Everything about it is good, but you might not like the heavier feel of the players. In 2009 it was too easy to go past players.

Yeah I played 2010 version quite a bit. I think the ML was the most innovative yet, despite the button lag, it was fun. Plus the shooting was Grrreat! !! Pes 2009 is fast. Animations were off putting but at it's core it was a true PES and the last of it's kind. Pes 2010 although fun was moving to more simulation but struck a good balance betwee sim and arcade.

This is possible. Press Start -> Pause Menu -> Instant Replay.

I believe it's somewhere there. A bit of the hassle to get there though.

Oblivious to changes KONAMI is. Sadly, patch changed too little to even warrant buying this game.

Rivals have prepared product which is head over heels better. Polished. Finished. Oozing with quality.

Even if gameplay wise it falls short (though, you would be surprised how much NG version changed), it has all other things to keep you busy for one year.

Sadly, PES doesn't offer that. It's probably one of few sports games with LEAST game modes for players. (NBA 2k11 has more modes just saying).

Heh. I won't suspect they can produce top product on their own. Sorry, PS2 days are long gone, PS3 as platform will die too. KONAMI is again UNPREPARED. From the very kick off when NG was released. Shocking.

I wouldn't say they're unprepared. This time is better than last time at least. PES 2014 is still a good game to many. Good thing we can take from it is that it used the FOX engine so it's been put to practice. So for next year on the PS4/XBone it won't be a totally new experience. They can take whatever good they've done with it now and expand on it for next year, hoping they learned from all their mistakes.

Agreed, plus remember that feature back on the PS2 where you could press Select and then choose the point in time where you would resume the gameplay from? That was brilliant.

Survey to me is just another way of data mining. However I still answer it from time to time because i'm interested to learn these data collector's mind operate and their line of questionnaire. Might be useful in real-life if you're into sales & marketing. And in PES case, the little boy inside me hoping they will listen to my view, although realistically it won't happen.

That survey was huuuge

Interesting questions. Seems they are aware of how bad PES2014 is received.

They ask alot of questions on the box art and being in retail that usually is a discussion after a product has failed to sell - couple that with the many discounts available for PES 2014 already its hardly a surprise

You only have yourself to blame Konami do it right or dont do it all

They're mostly marketing questions aren't they.

And these discounts, where are they? I went on the PSN Store but it's still full price.

I also never really got the hate for PES 2009. It had the CL licence, was a vast improvement on 2008 and I thought it played a pretty good game of football. I remember that Keane was a better player than Torres in Liverpool apart from that its flaws have escaped my memory.

I would probably be OK with 2014 if it just had powerful shots going in from time to time. Toning down from 2013 was not a bad idea but they took it too far. Making a shot like Suarez did against Norwich, catching the keeper off guard, is utterly impossible. I used to get great joy from trying absurd long rangers because the keeper had ventured to far out. In 2014, no way, absolutely no way.

I'll hand it to Konami, the patch made the game a lot better but there is still a lack of PES magic.

Amen. The Suarez goal is the perfect example. Keepers DO get caught off their line from time to time. Again, it was the beauty and part of the soul of PES, it's pure unpredictability.

How on earth is Konami charging for an online pass for Pes 2014? I could understand paying to plain online if they had dedicated servers or at least good online play, but Pes 2014 has neither.

Also the thing I loved in Pes was that it used to be a sand box football game. The game engine was not holding you back, if you could think it you could do it. Sure some tactics were more effective than others but you could play how you wanted to.

In Pes 2014 I just strugle to control the player (PS3 here) due to inertia (I hate that with a passion, I want fluid controls not realism) and input lag.

I'm out until next patch for sure. Maybe I'll buy PEs 2013 or go back to Pes 2010/2012.

Since I own PES 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and PES 5, I did a marathon-session this saturday morning till now to just find out what the different versions have to offer.

I played the same match with Barcelona against Madrid on top-player with 20 minutes.

PES 2009 was imho just awful, clunky animation, limited ways to play. PES 2010 was imho way better and looks just mint, but the star players are a bit overpowered.

PES 2011 gets rid of the limited passing and opens up new possibilities and has still some of the good looks of PES 2010.

PES 2013 offers better AI for the CPU, so it offers more challenge but it looks awful compared to PES 2010 and 2011, some serious graphical degradation there.

Then I played PES 5, no clunky animation, but limited passing possibilities.

Then I switched on PES 2014, again with the same match, and it was eerily exactly like PES 5, the same feel for the animation and player/ball control, only with the added freedom of passing that PES 2011 introduced.

After this it's obvious to me what Konami tried to do with PES 2014, they wanted to create a modern HD-version of PES 5!

Since I played with zero bar in PES 2014 I noticed that I couldn't play so well as in PES 5, so I set it on 2 bars to replicate the feel of control of PES 5, and bingo it worked like a charm. The best thing about it, the pass-assistance is more than for passing, it seems to make the whole team work better together and it affects even the CPU's attacking possibilities.

On zerobar the CPU would attack in similar ways often through the wings or using lobpasses over the defense, because it seems that with zerobar it doesn't want to try other ways, with 2 bars it tries different ways of attack.

The only thing Konami needs to change is to make the goalkeepers not so perfect on parrying longrange shots and make them a bit better at handling close range shots, especially the guarding of the close post areas.

I know that I didn't go into complete details regarding the different aspects of the different versions, but that would take hours which I don't have.

But to sum it up: PES 2010 is imho a good game for its awesome menu and its mint graphics, PES 2011 earns my respect for its introduction of the free passing and other new stuff. And PES 2014 gets my praise for having achieved what longtime fans have always wished for, a modern replication of PES 5 in combination with the free passing of PES 2011 (at least when played on 2 bar).

Konami must be really confused now, with having fulfilled what fans always wanted but still to be condemned by the fans for it. But here's my advice to solve this confusion for Konami: Make 2 bar (haven't tried 1 bar, maybe 1 bar is also good enough, but zero bar seems broken, the CPU-AI seems not to be made for zerobar) pass-assistance the only option, and work on shooting and goalkeeper.

The shooting needs more trajectories and a feeling of wonder, and the goalkeepers need to be more reliable in close range and not so perfect at handling longrange shooting: It should be possible to catch a goalkeeper off guard from long range from time to time.

Great post Henry :)
Funny that we needed 700 pages to come to that conclusion! :P
I agree with you. I have PES 5 too ( because I think it is the best version of the past generation ) and I just compared it. Amazing that putting two bars on PES 2014 did the trick!

I play PES 2014 on 3 bars game speed. For me PES has always played better at a higher rate of speed. That's just the way PES is. Anything lower and it always feels clunky and broken to me.

PES 5 is one of the slower versions and I like it that way. PES 2014 is also slow, although I have the feeling it is faster after the last patch...

I would say the game speed of PES 3, 5 and 6 are pretty close the game speed of PES 2014 on 3 bars.

According to Adam they're working on next patch and DLC, currently on testing phase. By the sound of it, most likely will be fixes for technical issue. So i'm not going to get my hopes high for gameplay improvement.

PES 2014 plays nothing like PES 5.

Agreed. If anybody thinks PES 2014 is fit to lick PES 5's anus, they're smoking crack. It plays NOTHING like PES 5 regardless of what you do to it. The ai is completely different, shooting different, defending different, gk's different, etc.

I switched back to PES2013 a month or so ago to get my footy fix, I have just had a game of 2014 and its a shell of a game but the engine does seem to have lots of potential. Unfortunately if the last 7 years are anything to go by I dont think Konami are the guys that can fulfil it :(. After watching some NBA2K14 vids on the PS4 I really wish I was into basketball, football does not have the video game representation it deserves.

Very true. Given the huge global audience for football - which is without doubt the most popular sport in the world - it's sad that we are stuck with the current duopoly rather than the plethora of football games that used to be on the market 10-20 years ago.

To be fair, EA cater to the casual audience very well indeed. PES used to be the purist's choice - more realistic but still very approachable. They need to get back to that somehow.

While Konami are floundering, a third player could really make an impact.
