Is PC FIFA as good as the console one?
Thank you for your LIFE LESSON...Now I feel a better man...but..let me say..I read your post..you at first say "we cannot complain about people destroying the game"...ok..then you finsih saying " Remind that many people cannot buy a game and need to save money in order to buy it..." YOUR LOGIC IS GREAT...now you can keep laughing...but let me do the same about your post if you don't mind ok?
Eh, I also don't get the guys idolising FIFA. The wonky ball physics, collisions, incredible AI boosting and cheating, lack of meaningful player traits, mindless tactics...
Pro Evo's AI feels like Deep Blue playing chess compared to FIFA's.
EA seems to do an excellent job creating distracting features to draw the focus off the pitch it seems.
You can complain about people destroying their game, but you use silly arguments. Why rich Arabs or poor people are even mentioned while THIS IS A PRO EVO FORUM is beyond me. Applaud all you want, if you want to give KONAMI your money...then by all means. but next time you take a shit when you sit on the toilet, I hope you realize the poop you are shitting is free, you don't need to pay 60 euro's for that.
Guys struggling with long shots or hard shots in general should practice and master the knuckle shot. A new dimension to the game in my opinion is that you now have to plan for a long shot. Player balance, strongest foot and timing is key, just as in real life. I have scored a handful, hit the bar and posts numerous times and doesn't feel that it is as bad as the majority thinks Hope it doesn't get too easy come November.
can anybody try to explain to me why pes 2014 on my xbox slim has framerate problems, the games stutters frequenly, and on my sons old xbox , model prehestoric the game runs smooth?
If you really think that FIFA video is any good and if you're setting the bar for PES with it, than I'll be skipping this entire generation of sports gaming.
Really disappointed with what I've seen on both FIFA and NBA2K. Slightly shinier versions of the same thing...
ok ok, nice post...but are you sure I really give my money to Konami?
can anybody try to explain to me why pes 2014 on my xbox slim has framerate problems, the games stutters frequenly, and on my sons old xbox , model prehestoric the game runs smooth?
Different settings on the Xboxes, perhaps? Have you checked that they are the same, same output format? Or maybe they're connected to different TVs?
I tried them on the same tv, both via HDMI but the old xbox has no problem with 1080p while the newer one is set 2 720p because of the framerate.
Even if next gen FIFA turns out to be a shinier and slightly improved version then I'll still be getting it, because it's still improving on what's gone before.
PES has somehow regressed in my opinion. For all the fancy new animations and foot planting, inertia etc, it has completely lost that sense of unpredictability that made PES great. I remember thinking even back on PS2 days that PES was great because no two goals you ever scored were the same. PES 2014 is the first game in PES' history where I genuinely can't say that anymore.
I've put my 360 copy up for sale, I haven't activated the online pass yet so I'm hoping I'll recoup most of what I paid for it....maybe...
I just can't see any patch fixing all the issues I have with the game, not by a long shot. Besides, I'm usually on here ranting about how maddening the game can be sometimes but that's because past versions have been capable of bringing such enjoyment followed by moments of utter madness. This game is just flat and dull.
I'm really not seeing any goals that are different, it's all so predictable. I played a lot last night for the first time in a week or so and it didn't feel fresh. I gave up entirely trying long shots, and I also gave up trying R2 shots from anywhere apart from when the keeper is a couple of yards away, in which case they almost always go in. Apart from that, R2 shots are totally useless.
I've really given the game a good go but I just can't enjoy it. I tried tonight playing a Copa tournament with Corinthians, on Superstar, 25 minute games, and I ended up switching the game off after 75 minutes. Partly due to boredom, partly due to the sheer array of issues with the gameplay. By the time I switched it off, I was winning 3-0, with the CPU doing nothing apart from trying constant chipped through-balls which I can easily deal with, and also constantly passing the ball low to the near post. I'm so tired of seeing the CPU do that.
In the match I scored three times and all three left me feeling totally unexcited and shaking my head at the incompetence of the CPU's defending. It ruined all three goals. First one, I play the ball into the box and Pato poked the ball past the keeper, but the replay shows their defender marking him just stood like a zombie, rooted to the spot as Pato walked past him and poked the ball home. Second, Pato headed straight at the keeper only for him to parry the ball into his own net.
As for the third, well, if it's possible, it's the worst PES goal I've ever SCORED. The ball fell to my player about thirty yards from goal. I charged up for a shot. He didn't react, and didn't kick the ball. Instead, he kind of 'auto' ran in a straight line towards goal with the power bar stuck on near full. He auto-ran into three CPU defenders on the edge of the box, who all for some reason backed off and actively moved aside to let him walk into the box. THEN, the keeper didn't bother coming off his line to meet the striker, and the shot finally took place, or un-froze itself, six-yards out and he lashed it into the roof of the net because he couldn't miss. That's just rubbish.
I think Konami have done the right thing in going down a 'simulation' route, and the player control on the ball is great, but the AI is simply awful. Worse than in previous games.
+1 to that. After 2 weeks of day in and out of playing this game, you see same patterns used from AI, poor GK animations, poor awareness of players, players going OUT of playing field WITH ball or missing SIMPLE pass which goes out near them, LACK OF POWER in long range shots/freekicks, etc.
Now you could recreate most real-life goals up till PES 2012.
On PES 2013 and now 2014 you cannot do that.
I dare you to try and recreate any of below goals on PES 2014 without them looking funny (that means GK REACTING realistically):
YouTube - October #4 - 2013 | Best Goals of the Week
Try it. You cannot do it.
So, after a decent attempt with the game, here's a little summary of what I think of it:
POSITIVES
- Animations are lovely.
- Right stick usage is great.
- Triangle or Y to do downwards headers and low shots is awesome.
- Graphics are nice. But certainly not 'almost real' that Konami were claiming.
NEGATIVES
- Keepers are atrocious from close to medium range, invincible from long range.
- AI defensive and attacking awareness are also atrocious. Defenders wander off, midfielders rarely make runs, attackers are stilted. Where's the cross-field runs from PES2013?
- The game varies in competition modes from being difficult to the game just letting you walk the ball into the net like it's bugged.
- Shooting is screwed. Both R2 and long shots don't ever go in, yet R2 when the keeper is a few feet away works almost every time.
- Does 'Heart' work? I tested it with Pato, he started on green 'Heart', blue arrow. He scored two goals and yet it still showed as exactly the same.
- 'Heart' and arrows combined are stupidly overpowered and unbalance the gameplay.
- Downward headers, while a great addition, are totally overpowered.
- When chasing loose balls, there are still clearly 'rails' forcing me to use super-cancel to change direction.
- The lack of stadiums is really jarring
- The commentary is simply awful
- The lack of anything to do in ML is again, awful. ML on PS2 had more depth and more options.
- Transfers are WAAAAY out of date and will be again not long after the transfer update finally hits.
- No alternate weather.
- And the biggest thing for me, players don't feel as individual as they used to. The only differences are between players good at dribbling and those not so good at it. Playmakers like Xavi and Pirlo kinda feel a bit useless. Their positioning and passing accuracy used to stand out in older games but in this, it doesn't seem to make much difference. Not that I can tell, anyways.
- The music in-game is absolutely dire.
- Menus are slow, laggy and look dated.
- Player celebrations have no context to them, and are extremely repetitive. If you're 2-0 down, and pull a goal back in the 85th minute, rather than picking the ball up and running back to the centre circle, as in previous games, your player still sprints to the corner flag like he's just won the game. Another aspect that's worse than previous versions and ruins the immersion even further. Either way, even if a celebration is different, it always involves the player sprinting at full speed to the corner flag. It makes it feel like you're watching the same thing over and over again.
Sigh. Maybe people disagree if anyone bothers to read it, but that's how I feel about my favourite game series of all time. I'm known on here for my extreme shifts in opinion but that's because PES has the ability to be wildly fun then wildly frustrating in equal measure. Not this version, unfortunately. I just can't see a November patch fixing all the gameplay related issues.

Gee this place is depressing!
I agree that there are faults BUT
New engine, New leader, New UK office old excuses I know but real issues nonetheless.
FIFA have refined and refined this entire generation to the point where they are now. Comparing the two is not fair imo you could even argue that FIFA is seriously lacking innovation. Their biggest trump card for next gen is multiple players jumping for a header - I mean seriously jumping jiminy what the fuck is that!
For FIFA 14 they introduced shooting thats been in PES since the 90s and I am pretty sure that if it werent for PES we would be fucked! EA cannot innovate they copy PES and make it sound like they came up with the shit.
I am not trying to turn this into a PES vs FIFA discussion just want to set the record straight that FIFA14 and EA in general are not masters of the trade here - I know a fair few FIFA fans that are disgusted with EA
FIFA caters to its audience so well.
Wanted to spend some time with the 6 year old so I invited him into the Man Cave. Set up a 10 minute game Beginner difficulty Advance through Basic shot. Off everything else on his control settings with Real Madrid. By the 35 minute he is crying because he has not scored yet. At the half I let him know that the CPU poses no threat and that if he plays his game he will win. Game ends 2-1 my son wins
From there I fire up FIFA13 2 button control Amateur difficulty with Real Madrid. He scores with in the first 3 minutes and the game ends 5-0 with my son being the winner.
I can wax poetic about the intricacies of PES till I am blue in the face. Guess which game my son wants to play most.
I love the Franchise and what it tries to replicate. I fear in this day and age that it is simply not enough for the Ritalin crowd.
