Poor goalkeeper animation selection here.

Plus from that range it's possible to score a lot :).

But getting powerful shot from 30 yards out is asking for miracle.

You lack any sort of power and shoots look very underpowered when hitting from outside 26+ yards mark. Must be due to goalkeepers not reacting very well to powerful shots. They have to find balance...

I will show you what I mean tomorrow when I mean POWER behind SHOOT ;).

The same with free kicks, this new system makes it impossible to score a freekick from 30 yards, its impossible to shoot with strenght, its ALWAYS a placed shoot. Boring
 
So do the balls you get with the data pack only apply to league and ML modes? You can't select them in exhibition matches?

Finally got the data pack working, tried downloading it three times then had to delete all my data as something was then making my game freeze when it tried to load the data pack. Outstanding, Konami!
 
I don't want to argue here, posting this to show what I feel PES should copy from "other" game.

Take a look at this highlights reel. Goalkeeper reactions, long range shots trajectories, swerves (YES! The thing PES did very well in PS2 gen didn't reach same quality on PS3/X360 version of the game sadly).

I don't want to argue here, but imo EA did nail some things very well.

And yes, there is power behind shots (sadly YT caps vids down on speed), you can shoot from 40 yards out with enough power for it to BLAST the net (ie. Ibrahimovic strike). If you overdo it, the ball will just FLY above bar.

I know people hate F*** franchise for good reasons, but don't be blind not to see things they DID right.
 
Very surprised last night. First game: a computer player clattered me in the centre circle and got a straight red. First time I've ever seen that.

Couple of games later I had a friendly, Cambuur Leeuwarden vs ADO Den Haag. Midway through the second half, some crappy ADO midfielder ran onto a looping loose ball and volleyed it in from 25-30 yards, beating the goalie (who was motionless) with sheer pace. Never seen the computer do that before, either.

So yeah, anyone who thinks this stuff never happens in PES 2014 is wrong. But in a way it's worse that the game can do these things, but almost never does. At least if it wasn't possible, they'd have an excuse of sorts.

A very balanced and well argumenten post.
It has countless flaws and that is a shame.
Konami great us a way you don't treat customers.

But it plays like real football. You build attacks like in real football.
That is the reason imo it is the best football game ever.

Nevertheless, shame on you Konami.


Ps: and about next gen, are you sure that will be better ? Remember current gen....
 
I am not sure, but NG FIFA seems to have ALL things PES 2014 should have had from beginning.

Sorry, if they wanted to compete for real, KONAMI should have abandoned PS3/X360 users in dust (sorry if harsh, but those consoles are very old now).

They have to take features out, so it could run on PS3/X360 with constant framerates (and it still doesn't do that I hear?). Now their situation will be similar to PS2>PS3 transition. Remember FIFA hit NG before PES. How did this turn out in long run? KONAMI plays catch up since then and still loses people to FIFA each year.

This was chance for KONAMI to make turn around on things. In my opinion, they have royally fucked up.

Gerd and others already know what flaws PES has and what was taken out of the game, so I won't be repeating this as list would be quite long now.

Really hoping for BIG things to come with 1.02. patch, but here is some inconsistency. Xbox 360 users already have 1.03. patch available. PC and PS3 is still on 1.01.

WHAT THE HELL?! This is just disgrace and KONAMI starts to become the laughingstock of game industry. Crazy :/.

I really DO HOPE KONAMI AND PES TEAM HAVE BOUNCE BACK ABILITY. I really do.

Everyone thinking that FIFA is going to be amazing because of that trailer needs to remember that EA always make it look great before release and then when it comes to gameplay it is the same old bland stuff.

EA are the Apple of the football world. It is all about advertising and they market their product far, far better than Konami.

They could prove me wrong of course but I wouldn't get too excited until I had played the game...

We all know that, but except for E3 video (which was of course CGI), NBA Live 14 and FIFA 14 is Alive videos are real in game footage (maybe colorized a bit with added music).

And people who played NG already, even if we take their words with massive pint of salt, say it's better in almost every area than CG version.

That said, I would need to play it really. That still doesn't mean that PES 2014 will have easy life.
 
Imagine FIFA with the same licenses and game modes as PES, and almost no one would touch it. So this is a preference. Some guys really do like FIFA gameplay, I hate it. Tried several times, and that is everything but realistic.

Konami went the right direction, but with wrong choices. Some things are too broken to be enjoyable. Shooting is one of them, GK the other. The rest, I can live with.
 
Game modes, online modes, AI.

Those things are missing from game to make it enjoyable for me. Not to mention sucking dick commentary from Beglin/Champion. It makes me want to sleep it is that entertaining :LOL: (yes, you can turn it off, but atmosphere on stadium is still bad - on PC where you cannot put custom chants on without jenkey help - thanks).

Cameras are mess on PES too (thank God for MxSonic tool).

When it comes to gameplay, FIFA starts to move in right direction, but keeping in mind that GAMES should BE FUN to play and not frustrating.

That's where difference in approach is. EA devs have CLEAR view of HOW they GAME should look and feel.

What can you say about Pro Evolution after PS2 era? No clear direction. It's complete mess. It's neither simulation nor arcade and as such it fails to deliver in what is most important: FUN. PS2 era Pro Evos were fun to play. Post PS2 era, I haven't had fun with any Pro Evo.

PES 2014 is step in right direction, but too many things went missing for people to go out and buy it, especially with what competition has to offer. Full package which just works out of the box.

My only hope really for next-gen PES is that wheras they had a creaking old engine on new hardware for most of this generation, PES2014 is a brand new next-gen ready engine on creaking old current gen hardware. Kind of a reversal of when the PS3 / 360 came out.
 
What difficulty are people playing this on? I tried the game tonight and found Professional to be much harder to break down the opposition, saw less keeper errors by far, and the COM kept the ball pretty well, even hitting a few long range shots. Trouble is, though I found it harder to score, the COM didn't score enough at all.

Whack it up to Top Player or Superstar and the COM seems to challenge less in the final third, allowing me to occasionally score some laughably easy goals, but has a more potent goal threat.

Last I checked they're still a top company massively respected among their peers.

Can people post sensible posts in here without going over emotional and exaggerate to suit what they say?

However, they will get all blaming for PES 2014. Unfinished game. ;)

The funny thing is even in its unfinished state it dominates over FIFA13 have not paid for FIFA14 yet and really no need to. PES14 for me is the complete package different strokes for different folks I guess and all that jazz.

Fired up FIFA13 to go to ultimate team to re post some auction stuff and had to close down the program as fast as I could so the garish color pallete would not blind me. I will buy FIFA14 for a 10 and only a 10.
 
Unfinished game or not, for me Pes 2014 plays the most realistic feeling football game on the pitch. Love playing with zerobar, 30 min matches on top player.
It has some issues on xbox360 but those are patchable, nothing too serious.
 
Just one my first cup with Ivory Coast vs Croatia. The semi vs Spain was a real barn burner that ended 5-4(way to many goals shit game)Regular difficulty is no longer competitive and that switch to PRO level has to be put in place.

Getting back to rant when I first played PES10 the celebrations after League wins and Cups were jaw dropping and mind blowing. Now after seeing the same exact thing over the last 4 years it is time for both companies to step their game up.

And for all the cool tech advances that the other company has I am sure in FIFA14 you still get fireworks in the fucking day time.
 
It's so frustrating, for 89 minutes the game will play fantastic, with tight defending and tackling, but just for that one minute out of the whole game I seem to always have the COM almost allow me to score thanks to COM defenders backing off and not trying to challenge me, even opening up in their own box by moving away from my player as he strolls in on goal.

It's just one minute out of a whole match but it's enough to take all satisfaction from scoring and ruin the match, even if I win.

Plus, this long shot issue is insane. All night I tested it by peppering long shots at their keeper, sometimes by absolutely hammering the ball, but the keeper saves everything on target no matter what.

It's made shooting and scoring dull and repetitive, surely the number one thing a football game should not do.
 
In fact I've been playing it for most of this evening and it's downright dull. Off-the-ball player runs are non-existent compared to previous versions, they all just stand around the ball carrier doing nothing with the exception of full backs and strikers looking for through passes. If fact, rather than make darting runs then check back if the pass doesn't go to them, they carry on their run in a ridiculous manner by running about 30 yards offside because their darting run covers about half the length of the pitch. But central midfielders in particular just stand there and do nothing.

Also the variety of goals scored is terrible, there are about three or four types of shots that seem to go in with the COM only able to score from a small number of attacking moves. It's all so predictable. Every goal feels like its a carbon copy of something I've already seen.

It's just plain dull. I've currently no inclination to play my league season through to the end because I feel like I've seen everything there is to see. The COM does nothing but chip through balls looking for the winger inside my full back, and play short passes from crossing positions to the near post. Either that, or most goals for both teams seem to come from one v ones where the attackers manage to bungle their way through the defence somehow.

It's all so dull. It even extends to seeing the same frickin' goal celebration regardless of the situation. Why is is that in every PES I can remember we've had varied celebrations, and when you pull a goal back your player would run and grab the ball out of the net to quickly restart etc. In this, even if you pull a goal back in the last minute, or score a consolation goal when losing badly, your player still sprints to the f***ing corner flag like he's just won the World Cup. Utter crap.

I gotta say i agree with this. Fifa 14 on manual controls with the new inertia system is a lot of fun to play. EA have come a long way. I recommend people check FIFA14 out if they are disappointed with Pro Evo. I got Pro Evo 14 first after trying out the demo and got bored after 2 weeks due to the lack of depth and rubbish online mode. I mean who wants to play Master League these days start with a bunch of fake crap players and build a super team? Boring. Also online is almist unplayable. Why is it so hard to get online right forKonami when FIFA online for me plays as well as offline 95% of the time?
At this point I decided to get FIFA 14. I havent looked back. EA nailed it with Online Seasons. The skil games as well is another area where FIFA owns PES. In 2014 Konami includes the most basic and boring training mode ever. There is no incentive to keep playing it where as in FIFA you are always looking to beat your own score.
Yet another area is the commentary, FIFA is MILES ahead, proof positive is the video embedded in the post i am quoting, it feels as if you are listening to martin tyler commentate the match live as it happens. What do we get in PES? Champion and Beglin saying the same lines they have been saying for years (worst one being "and he takes the chance with some aplomb") as well as the player name in one tone of voice and then a generic phrase in a different tone, like one of those super lame voicemail recordings. So amateurish...
The FIFA store is another feture that Konami should take a page out of, hundreds of fun items to purchase such as balls (world cup balls, old balls, different brands) vintage kits for teams, etc. And all of these can be used in all modes, I can play the Barclasy Premier League with the Jabulani if I want to. Not in Pes though, we get only 3 or 4 authentic balls and then generic ugly ass PES balls that you can only use in unlicensed leagues, not a big deal but it shows the level of detail that is sorely missing from PES at the moment.
On the pitch I must say I have had a lot of fun with Pro Evo 14 but then something happens that make me want to turn it off like the keeper doing that one leg one hand stretch saving animation which always result in a goal, my defenders not tracking runs, lack of awareness, etc.
For me this year FIFA is the game to beat, truly the complete package where as PES 2014 is a VERY rough diamond that needs a LOT of polishing up. Hopefully the November patch can address most of the issues so we could end up with 2 great footie games this year, but unfortunately things like the commentary, and the lack of content and licenses will always leave PES behind.

it all comes down to which game do you look forward to playing the most? For me at this moment in time the answer is FIFA. If Konami sort out the online lag, online cameras, player faces, and general gameplay bugs in November my answer could change...not getting my hopes up though, especially with online...
