PES 2014 Discussion Thread

I imagine, like a a lot of FIFA fans, he's aware that on the pitch PES 2014 plays a much superior game of football, but can't break himself from the overall EA package, which includes the traditional EA trappings such as proficient online modes, large array of licenses, superior commentary, sexy menus, soundtrack etc...

I enjoy both games, especially this year. I was patching and importing winning eleven back in the old ps 2 days, i specifically imported a jap console to play them somim no newbie.

My point was that it isalmost child like to dismiss fifa. Its as fluid or better than pes. My point is its how you choose to set it up and i can tweak sliders and customise to my liking. The animation is also astounding whether people want to admit it or not.

The trouble with fifa is its branded a kids arcade tag, thats stuck with it through most of its lifespan.

The problem with pes is likecwhat that guy mentioned, the hyperbole surrounding it is excruciatingly painful. Its an ok game that can get much better but its not real football, as the guy above said you cant simulate 90 minutes of real football in pes and lets be honest, the general public dont have the time nor want too, i certainly dont have the time i had ten years ago to play games.

Klash, its not ea's fault that pes has done poorly, thats down to konami who took their eye of the ball in a big way. This version has got some great things about it but needs years of work.

Having showered so much praise on this game in the last few days, let me briefly vent:

I got a couple of injuries (not coincidentally, to the players I edited before the season to give them Injury Resistance of 1 - Aquilani and Gomez). They show up at the bottom of the team list now, greyed out with sticking plasters next to their names. Problem, though: not only is there no way of telling what's actually wrong with them, there's no way of telling how long they're out for. WTF? Coming up to the transfer window - should I buy a replacement striker, or not? Has Mario Gomez got a nasty bruise on the ankle, or has he had to have one of his legs amputated? Who can tell.

Goalkeepers are the only players to suffer from fatigue - at least, mine are. I've had 300-year-old David Pizarro playing practically every game in central midfield, and he's still fully fit and full of beans, while my goalie, who's 24, starts getting knackered after 3 or 4 games of standing around. WTFF? I put in a different goalie and the same happens to him. This is madness.

Every single daytime game, even a game played in England in the middle of February, happens in pale sunshine under a beautiful blue sky. Doesn't bother me too much because I'm playing in Italy where it sometimes does look like that in the middle of winter. But seriously.... WTFFFFFFFFFFFF?

You have to get really clattered, and it looks like you have to have a player with injury resistance of 1 to stand much chance of actually seeing it happen. I've injured a fair few of the opposition's players with late sliding challenges late in a game, but I've only had two of mine injured. And like I say, they were the ones whose Injury Resistance I'd changed.

I think it's a fluke to have two injured in one season, though. Apart from that, in all the games I've played in any mode, I've only ever had a player have to go off for treatment once, and he came straight back on again.

So you have to smash into them late on in the game when they are tired, ok, you play on 30 minutes, maybe that is how to get them, I've been sticking to 15, just like you i love 30 minute game, played many of them on PES 2011 and 2013, i'll wait till after the patch to do it on 2014, don't want a long, hard competitive game ruined by a bug or that defensive AI run error.

Started a master League with lyon.

Lost first game at home to sochaux and was hammered in a friendly to shalke. Then put my defence line on 0 and bought ogbonna from juventus to help the defence. Also bought a SS called biabany who is fast down the left and won 2-0 against Rennes and Apoel in the CL.

Game play has jumped back to how it was through the week and I am loving it. Scored a coupe of headers and a tremendous volley from briand

Had a couple of 25min matches. The game is not perfect, especially unnerving is that my defence often break the offside trap. But the magic is in the game and thrill, love it!

Well, switching to Superstar does to the game what switching to Top Player did in the demo. Even the goalkeepers doesn't seem so prone to mistakes. Played 6 games now, and only seen one real howler, that's a new record for me, I think.

I'm trying to play fully manual on the passing, but struggling a lot. One thing that annoys me is that if they players you're passing to doesn't get it exactly at their feet, often times they'll just be watching the ball roll past them (cue; the responsiveness issue). Hitting the passes harder helps on a general basis, but shouldn't really be like that, when trying to pass in tight space and such.

Is there any way to get the arrow appear without pressing L2? Would make getting used to manual passing a lot easier. I'm considering gaffa taping L2 to get the arrow on. :D

Just out of interest, what difficulty are you playing on?

Also I think I'm doing to disable accumulated fatigue wherever I can, I don't think it's been implemented properly for years - if ever. Footballers can play week in, week out without getting so tired that they can't function. Look at the majority of Barcelona's players, by the time the season is over, most of them have accumulated over 60 matches. I think Messi reached nearly 70 games in one season.

I think it's fair enough to have a system where players start to dip after say 20 consecutive matches or so, but the way it's currently set up, you can barely play five games without players being knackered. In fact, PES has rarely, even on PS2 days, allowed you to keep the same side in a tournament mode because of fatigue. This doesn't make sense because teams, say in the World Cup, can field the same players barring injury over the whole tournament if needs be.

Trigger runs + lofted through balls have killed online.

There is a bug in the ai where they dont track the runs when the opponent uses L1+RS so that combined with lofted through ball is barely defendable, so its all anyone is doing, people with 20% pass success rate ffs and these are the people winning games!!

Professional, but I whack it up to Top Player for European games so they demand more concentration, and feel a bit tougher.

Yeah, it's always been a mess - but funnily enough I've had no problems at all with my outfield players so far this year. They're not getting really tired at all. The minimal rotation enforced by form arrows is enough to keep them fresh. Some of them, with very good form stats, are there pretty much every week: my left back has only missed two games all season. I imagine there are a few like this in the game, the Frank Lampards "of this world" who just keep rolling on, week after week. Always fit, always in reasonable form, always got a nice glowing heart.

I think form arrows and fatigue have been handled much better in PES 2014 than ever before, to be honest. It's just my goalies who can't seem to play more than 5 games in a row. Yes, the one player in every team who can play every game in the season and not get shagged out. So many of those classic Konami WTF elements have been tidied up this year, but this is a funny one.

(They've also not fixed the home/away game scheduling. I played 6 home games in a row earlier this season.)

The way those passes lock on to the runners every time, and how weird and out of place that seems compared to the rest of how PES 2014 plays... I wonder if it was Konami's little gift to what they euphemistically call "tournament players" (i.e. the bastards who are just into exploiting glitches and winning at all costs, and have no interest in playing anything resembling football). You can imagine them thinking hey, can we afford to lose these guys? Better put some exploitable shit in there to keep them happy...

Try to quickly control player near the "run-triggered" opponent.. or wisely use your offside trap ?

The ai, should have little delay in chasing a sudden run forward opponent/attacker.. He can't read what is on opponent's mind perfectly.

Defensive AI should track the runner but on default, it shouldn't be too strict / tight because if they do that it easy for the opponent to drag your defensive line out of shape. However, you can still do so by ordering your player to mark the opposition from tactical menu.

The best way to counter though ball and RS runner is manually adjusting your defensive line (d-pad).

I'm playing WE2014 (Asian ver) on PS3. i don't have PES on PS3 but i do have PES on PC. On comparison PC response time is slightly slower than WE. Also shooting in WE seems to be slightly more powerful and less floaty on normal condition. The headings and double X tackle is more responsive and u can deft touch dribble better without much lag.

Every other issues like def slow down in the box, keepers, player awareness and etc is still there. The only difference is the response time is better or should I say more forgiving. Players do head the ball more constiently compared to PES even when u press the button later. Not sure if its a placebo effect but feels more in control compared to my time on the PC ver. Of cos kits/logos loading is super slow and the stuttering frame rate issue is about the same as the demo. PC have no frame rate issue so I can't compare :)

Japan ver of WE2014 have no release date so I guess they are waiting to fix those issue before they announce the release.

Thanks mate. Anyone else here has played both PES 2014 and Winning Eleven 2014 on consoles and are able to compare? Traditionally the WE version is more responsive, more polished and even with better colours than PES. Particularly the improved reaponsiveness makes a big difference in being able to enjoy the game.

Playing WE can't compare but it's the same shit slowdown in matches on ps3. Dont bother maybe until November patch. Or if your interested in just playing free training till then.

I played PES 2014 and WINNING ELEVEN 2014 Asia version on PS3. In WE 2014 response time is better and shooting is more poweful. Game is faster so I play in -2 speed. Best football game ever.

I bought the game yesterday and was liking it until i started a master league and one if my central defenders was playing up front and would not come back. Has anyone else had this issue.

High player switching and high Defence Attack level is the cause.

Happened to Barca when i was testing their tactics, when you select player switching high they switch positions and don't move back. Happened to Pique it was a disaster for them.

Woohoo! Got my Winning Eleven 2014!!! Downloaded the patch but not the data pack yet. I can assure you WE2014 is better than PES2014. The response time is better. The shooting is better. The players look more solid and sturdy. They seem to have better balance and hence better control on the ball.

Will play many more games to confirm these observations. If it stays this way (which I'm sure it will), good bye PES2014 and welcome WE2014.

I think it's too tied to stamina and not enough to the position played. As I started ML with the crappy players and after 1.3 seasons (far too accurate a decimal, I know!) I've not bothered with a proper backup LB as I know the wee Scottish one (who's name I won't butcher here) has high stamina and can play every game (there are issues with form of course, but I can't afford a massive squad yet and I've a CB and the versatile crappy midfielder that can cover the purple instances). The goalkeepers traditionally have lower stamina and so they often need rotating. Either the stamina usage of keepers needs reducing, or I may set a minimum stamina for keepers with a global edit when the tools arrive and I have a final patch I like.

However, I'm hopeful that things like this (and the injury levels) are tweaked in the next patch. As I'd rather not do global edits to 'fix' (loosely used as it's only in my opinion) the game, it seems like the most realistic setting for injuries is the worst level for everyone, but I'd rather have varying degrees that were actually noticeable rather than all the same or no injury at all :)

I've applied the 1.01 patch but I see more and more people saying 1.00 is better and also switching back to 1.00. Are you all playing in 1.01 or 1.00? Is the gameplay difference between pre-patch and post-patch so good to warrant a switch back?

I'm not questioning the fact that you find the game different, but why would Konami bother to make WE2014 any different to PES2014? Why would they make the physics etc feel better? What's in it for them to use their resources in making the Japanese version superior?

Is it also a 'Player Style' thing? I had this once with Ron Vlaar, who I believe has the 'Extra Frontman' trait by default. I wouldn't be surprised if Pique has it too.

Well I see it better or superior while you may not. So I don't think intentionally they made WE better than PES. They might have made the games different to suit the gaming culture and expectations in Asia and Europe, as per their understanding.

With better response and shooting, WE is a bit video gamey (that's what the Japanese gamers want, probably) but that's what makes it good. Meanwhile a slower and sluggish can be construed as less arcadey. Remember, ALWAYS, WE has been a better game than PES. The best game in the series before this year was Winning Eleven 9 and not Pro Evolution Soccer 5.

Ah okay, I've never played any WE games so was curious :)

I think it's just a throwback to older days where the Japanese got a later 'updated' version that had gameplay improvements. These days I think they're all the same version.
