Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

That's not a good example, it's a combination of factors (most of which are still present in the full game - this is just a combination of all said factors at once).

If you pump R1, with each touch of the ball the player slows down and has to speed up to full pelt again. It's clear as day, it's why you had to go out of your way to say over short distances and couldn't say 'over any distance where I'm ahead of the slower defender'.

Someone please make a video in training mode or something, just show two players running in a straight line so that we can show Ipswich what he's not been able to see.
Pumping R1, with Ronaldo against Mertesacker. :)

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

How far do you want or expect to easily run on a football pitch ahead of another athlete while in possession of a football? Usually these situations take place within one half of the football field. If we're talking the full length then I haven't got a clue. I don't play that type of football. The bottom line is all the tools are there for you to be able get past a defender and stay ahead of them as you approach the goal. What you do or don't do with them is up to you.

The bottom line is you won't meet me halfway by being objective or talking about reality, whether of PES or of football. This clearly isn't happening when I see your use of rhetoric to dumb down Agbonlahor vs Rio Ferdinand to 'one athlete vs another', or by not addressing the fundamental problem that tapping R1 repeatedly to sprint with the ball with Agbonlahor is slower than holding R1 with Rio Ferdinand over a distance of 40, 50 yards, or by saying 'I don't play that type of football'(to me, of all people!) rather than knowing for themselves what should happen were such football to be played.

Whatever. I spend a lot less time on these forums nowadays so I have far less time to fritter away on conversations with people who are more interested in winning arguments than being right. I might post a video up later for those who would find definitive proof of the situation useful. You can do with it what you wish.

Calm down mate. I'm not interested in winning anything and I'm not sure what you want me to meet you halfway about. I like the system in this game. You CAN beat defenders and stay ahead of them. It's not always easy, especially with less swift players, but it's challenging and rewarding when you accomplish it. I like it. Sorry.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

Commentary on Belgium television is great, i also love the BBC but all this is subjective.
What i don't understand is your comment about FIFA commentary, IMO that is great and certainly much better than the poor (English and French) PES commentary...
You say commentary on television is poor, perhaps maybe, but impossible that it is as poor as the one in PES.
The most ridiculous part: PLAYER NAME ... PAUSE... IS ALL OVER HIM.

I know. FIFA commentary is awful, it's not good. They don't invest enough programming on following the game and accessing the game well, it's all just jargon regarding what is happening in real life, some of the lines massively outdated also. I don't need that I'd like a focus on what is happening ingame.

There needs to be a 'Momentum programming' system for commentary where the two build up using certain lines depending on the play, this old method of 'action' 'response' not taking into factor the actual score and how the team is performing.

hey mate i get your point and ipswhich point. I have seen both sides of the coin with this game. I have at times been able to escape a defender and take off..so to speak. More often then not, the defender catches up... I am playing with pc right now. Going to pick up 360 version today. I think I am getting input lag with right stick so breaking away from defender is not as prevelant. The right stick really seems to give me the ability to shrug off and create space between defender and I...

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

What catch-up bug? There's no catch up bug. If you think there's a catch up 'bug', you're probably not doing it right. I've scored many solo runs with capable defenders behind, beside and ahead of my player. Use the tools to your advantage. Slight direction changes, shoulder drops and speed bursts in diff directions - all help.

Check this out - catch up bug? http://youtu.be/gFVPbwUlWtE

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

Let's remember one thing. These games are not meant to be 100% realistic. It's a 15-min representation of what happens for 90 mins in football. There's going to be some amount of artistic freedom that developers might take in making these games. If we really want 100% realism in a 15-min game, it could be boring like hell. With such games you can get closer to realism and to expect and to wait for perfect realism is just naivety. I'm sorry.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

Think it's more annoying when you're defending when it'll sometimes lock you into the speed of the attacker, using super cancel puts you back to a normal speed.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

There is clear rubber banding in the game to compensate for the big Defensive AI error so you'll get more 1 on 1s than you normally do.

It doesn't mean you can't stay ahead of the CPU though.

It really don't bother me much at all.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

Gomito, yes you can beat people over short distances. I don't think acceleration is the problem. Top speed isn't the problem either. It's that, at the exact point where a player puts their foot forward to knock the ball on, they lose quite a lot more MPH than is realistic. It creates the same sort of problems as PES 2011, where people could play a high line safe in the knowledge that it doesn't matter if the trap is sprung, they'll get a few more bites at the cherry anyway. It's preferable to a game where people can just sprint up the pitch all day rather than bother to learn how to play football, but why settle for 'less crap' rather than push for a system that nails the problem?

Klash - I wouldn't call it rubber-banding. That implies some sort of speed-boost scripting decision by the game, intended to let defenders catch up. This problem purely exists with the dribbler, you can see it when playing the dribbling challenge. I know you can do things like hold the defender off, or vary your speed or direction to stay in front, but (a)that doesn't excuse Walcott having to muscle Vidic off after having a 5-10 yard headstart and (b)it does become a problem when Vidic holds you up and, while you're dealing with him, Rio Ferdinand comes alongside to dispossess you.

As I said, great game (with flaws that put me in mind of FIFA 08 more than anything) but it's wrong to deny the existence of something that has a significant impact on how threatening key footballing situations are.

Is the game better without data pack? Has anyone tried that can confirm? Is it worth deleting the data pack?

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

the people pissed about giving up buggy goals need to try manual keeper.... if you haven't used it in PES 2014 yet you are missing out. it's actually one of the best features in the game imo and is probably one of the best manual keeper controls in a footie game dating back to NES GOAL days.. lol

for PS3

L1 + R3 selects keeper
O makes saves
Holding X positions the keeper

This is all I use… I mainly use this any time the COM AI gets a brake on goal or is in the penalty box…. I also use it on corners as it’s very easy to control to make sure you don’t give up any buggy goals..

I have hardly ever given up any buggy goals because I guess I play on the keeper so much.. it’s so fun to use but also so effective in this game

Btw… I’m not sure who watched Mignolet’s triple save the other day for Liverpool… but I have already did something similar like that in PES 2014 by controlling the keeper doing a double save. I very pissed I didn’t record it to show you guys what are the benefits of manual keeper

ps. I also don't have issue at all bursting away from defenders double tapping R1... it's quite easy actually.

here is example video of me in the demo before I got the game bursting away from defender... I didn't quite catch the beginning but the defender was right on me before I got away and kept basically just button mashing R1 hahaha

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

I switched from top player to professional and am getting nice results, winning some games, losing some and the scorelines seem realistic on 15 minutes. However, if the shooting was like it was in 2013 I would be playing on top player. I suck at shooting (am using basic) and all my shots from range slurp donkey balls.

My shooting was also poor. I used to be very poor with one-on-ones. Because every time, I used to hit the ball with 10% fill of the bar, just like the old PES. But all my shots were rolling slowly for the keeper to pouch safely. It was all about how much of the power gauge do we need to fill for a good shot. In the earlier PES, filling the bar would be row Z while just about 10-15% would be a driven shot.

In PES 2014, the sweet spot looks to be where you can fill the power gauge from 50-75%. If you fill it less than 50%, it could be a weak, pointless shot. If you fill it over 75% you run the risk of going off target. Again, needless to say, how quick or slow the bar fills will depend on the shot accuracy stat of the player striking the ball. Try this and let me know how this works.

Nice. I'm going to try this tonight. Not really happy with the lethargic response from keepers sometimes when I just press the triangle button.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

Maybe Konami no longer want to wait for the next version to remove stuff from the game and just start doing it a few days after release :P

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

I am having trouble establishing play further up the pitch. Passing around opponents box, any tips how to make it work? Whats the proper tactic for this? How does the sliders work this year? There is no "attacking style" left.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

Quick question: anyone in Asia having problems patching to 1.01 with the USA version?

Couldn't agree more on your points.
This is simply a cheap shortcut adopted by the developers to balance the defender AI.
It has a great impact on the gameplay and I would like it to be removed

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

Hi, I want to buy and download the game in my PC (a legit copy). I didn't find where I can do this. In PES official site there is only a link to shopto.net but they are selling the disc version. Any idea of where is the download version of the game?

The whole reason it's there using the example you have given the through ball provided by Arteta to Theo to put him in on goal happened because Rafael was Madly chasing Podolski who on the other side of the pitch had made a blind forest gump like run in behind and he was playing Theo onside. This happens every single game, when that is sorted out, i see no reason why this 'rubber banding' or catch up whatever can be removed because the defence can stop it from happening so frequently.

It's like FIFA 08/Euro 2008 but with potential to be truly outstanding, just if they get a patch right, we don't even have to wait for next year, they can get it done this year so next year they can simply refine it, add a few more animations and focus very heavily on bells and whistles.

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

Sorry to sound like a broken record but can anyone on 360 check the commentary language options in their game? I don't have any at all!

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

can anyone tell me why on 360 when i download the data pack it says its corrupted and downlaod again?

Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)

Go on then, how do I run in a straight line and open up the gap between me and the much slower defender? Tapping R1 for the kick-and-run doesn't work. It's one thing saying we can hold a defender off, but why is the defender gaining on us when the stat deficit is so clear? Why can Ferdinand catch the nippy striker enough for him to need to shrug off Rio's challenge, so that Vidic can steam in alongside and rob the ball?

The burden of proof is on you. Show us one video where the defender is sprinting at full pelt after a dribbler but the dribbler is still opening up the gap, and tell us what you were doing to achieve that within PES 2014, and all of this is put to bed.

I actually felt, that not only did the CPU Ai not catch me up here, it arguably lost ground....
