Oh S**t I hope that's not Konami's template? Did he go in for emotion-capture?

What was new was the animation engine and the physics engine components of PES 2011. Yes, PES 2008-2013 is still using the modified PS2 engine overall, but they did develop those 2 above parts which differ from PES 2010 to previous.

So it hasn't been a completely new engine from PES 2011 onwards, but some components are not exactly the same either, and this is what most people don't really mention.

None of the previous ones were based on completely new engines from the ground up. New sets of animations or whatever, yea.

But honestly, that doesn't bother me much whether it's a new engine or not as long as it delivers the game we want.

Can be a bad new engine, or a very good one badly used, or whatever. What matters to me is the end product. So apparently this engine is supposed to give us that end product we all wanted, even if it should've been ages ago.

And from what we've seen so far of this engine, we do know it looks pretty promising. So, hopefully it delivers.

Exactly!

It does look promising but the thing is most of this stuff regards close up images - things that you won't even notice most of the time. Still, it's designed to show off the Fox engine's potential and it does that admirably.

The previous "new" engines had clearly many artifacts of the PS2 which was great in its time but after a while the same old passing, shooting, celebrating animations have become boring.Hopefully this FOX engine delivers a "newish" feeling, a wow factor on top of a great game.
I have set my expectations so low with Konami that I can only be amazed though

PES 3 was a new proprietary engine created in-house by Konami.

PES 2 used 'Renderware' which needed to be licensed and was a middleware solution for a lot of early PS2 era games, similar to how Epic's 'Unreal Engine' has been is licensed to many developers.

Personally, whatever the engine, and even with notable well-known flaws, apart from the complacency of 2008 the game has remained good for me, yes even PES 2009+2010, when you get past their clunkiness. The individuality, movement physics and tactical depths have all remained in each version, alongside innovations (which no one ever mentions) that have found their way into the competing game.

I'm not expecting the new engine to be a saviour of PES because I already like the game, and have done so for years despite all the annoyances, there are lots of positives in each one.

That being said, if they end up making PES 2014 look like NBA 2K with the fluidity of the animation transitions, combined with the player models and the momenmtum/iniertia that they already have, they'll easily win back a lot of fans based on animations and visuals alone, which a new engine can bring in.

Sorry if I wasn't clear but thought it was obvious; I meant the PS3 and 360 versions.

That is what they're aiming for :)

Hopefully it works out for them and the outcome surprises us all.

Didn't realise PES3 used a different engine. Then again it was one of the biggest step ups between the games in my opinion.

I remember getting the demo for PES3. Wasn't it England v Argentina at Anfield?

It blew me away. Couldn't stop playing it.

I remember the first PES game I played: PES 4. I'd been playing Fifa PC for a few editions, but PC Gamer were always raving about PES so I thought I'd give it a try.

I was blown away. The game was so far superior to Fifa PC back then it just wasn't even in the same league! The very next day, I popped into town (used to buy games from shops back then remember ;) and bought PES 4 in WH SMiths (my area's always been useless for proper games shops; still is). Took it home, played it exhaustively and didn't touch Fifa again until Fifa 11 when the PC got the new engine. By that time, PES had lost its way a bit for me as well.

Speaking of demos - really quick OT here: do the lighting patches work on PES 13 demo? Yay or nay is all I need. ;)

same hype as last year same bullshit, not the bit excited of what is coming up, prove me wrong konami, doubt that will happen.

I'm just curious as to what a teaser should be, beyond it's simple function of being a teaser for something or other?

I know I have seen better teaser trailers in my time, be they for videogames or other media, but they were still just teaser trailers for something or other and I can't even remember in some cases if what was teased was the actual reality regards the product in question.

Teaser trailers doomed to be teaser trailers, I guess.

PC versions has always got good framerates in PES 2013 :APPLAUD: I must mod it though to enjoy playing it.

Default pitch, GK reaction n animation, some defensive options, goal replays, cpu ai way of play, sometimes inconsistency of animation.. are what PES 2013 lacking.. not to mention some game mode option. Sigh that's a LOT :CONFUSE:

We had that good before.. they just can't take it to another level to our expectations since the beginning of Playstation 3 era until PES 2013.

PC players again suffer from it (read : console) :COAT: Excited for the whole new PES 2014 though :BYE:

we had a new engine in 2008 too ;)

Hello. How's the weather on your planet doom. 2008 wasn't a new engine.

Bloody hell. I remember the day I bought PES3 like it was yesterday. One of my all time greatest games along with the liikes of MGS1,GT2, GTA3 and others

Less than a week, bruh!

I will wait until the demo before making any judgement as gameplay is critical as always.

However it looks like the new Fox engine is doing what was promised. Superior graphics, better kinematics and thus a heightened sense of realism.

They have also promised to bring in shirt tugs. In fact the trailer which appears to be all engine created reminded me very much of the PES4 intro....

YouTube - Pro Evolution Soccer 4 Intro (PES4)

It all looks on the basis of a very small trailer, rather promising.
