Already been venting this morning on Twitter re the stadium issue but might as well post in here too. I don't blame EA for protecting the money they've spent on exclusives but the initial act of exclusive licensing is borderline collusion between EA sports and the clubs/FA's that they're creating the deals with.
Can you imagine if Apple locked out Windows and Android Phones from being able to use certain apps like Facebook or Twitter. This would mean if you want to use those apps you'd have to get an iPhone or iPad. Same with EA sports and their exclusivity deals - to me they're aimed at reducing competition in the marketplace, which can be illegal.
Remember how Microsoft got in trouble because they wouldn't allow you to install a 3rd party browser on Windows and forced users to install Internet Explorer? That's even more vague than this licensing stuff but they still got in trouble for trying to lock out their competitors.
EA Sports don't have every single stadium licensed, so why is the stadium editor not included?
Konami have an exclusive on the UCL and Europa league and paid good money to do so, so why are EA Sports allowed to have fake UCL and Europa Leagues in their career mode? How can EA Sports enforce exclusivity on things like stadiums and Bundesliga when they have fake implementations of something that's a PES exclusive??
Whilst I can live with some of these stadiums being gone, if the stadium editor was in fact a legal matter then it spells bad news for the entire edit mode. Vote with your feet gentelmen - buying a copy of FIFA will be putting a nail in the PES coffin. Every dollar they get will be another dollar that they can use to throw around against Konami.
I too want the best football game possible and if that happens to be FIFA then I'll buy it, but the more of our money they get, the less chance ANY competitor has of keeping EA Sports honest. Like others have said, instead of fixing gameplay issues, EA Sports just make minor tweaks and enter exclusive deals, the effects of which could also be achieved with non-exclusive deals.
If it gets to a point where they are the only company making a football game, they will be able to lose licenses without anyone else picking them up and they can also stagnate their game development because there's no competitor.
Just like FIFA 13, I won't be buying FIFA 14 - on principle!
