PES 2014 Discussion Thread

Regarding "stadiumgate", I think EA should be ashamed that a PC modder (CuiRuby) created much better versions of Emirates and Etihad stadiums than EA themselves, with all their huge budget.

So tired of these monopolistic practices.

In what way is his versions better than EA's?

It's abysmal that with EA's huge budget there is only 26 licenced stadiums in Fifa 13, bearing in mind this gen goes way back to Fifa 07. EA really take advantage of their privileged position with football fans.

Btw, didnt see anyone talking about it, but the aerial game is really good, the heading animations and the way players jump are really satisfyng, crosses and headers are better than in 13 too, i scored a great heading goal with Klose that it was barely impossible in 13.

Catch up bug not gone indeed, u just cant stay ahead of defenders, evan with Ribery against Durval for instance, he will catch u no matter what.

I somewhat agree, but it's fairly obvious why that's the case. At the end of the day, I'll play whatever I deem to be the better game of football. I've done so since I've made the switch to PES (even though I still buy both FIFA and PES every year) in the early 2000s. With that said, I completely understand why a "casual" gamer would prefer FIFA over PES purely because of licenses.

The fact of the matter is, not every one is as obsessed with football/football games as you, me, or anyone else on this forum. Sports in general have a wide-reaching audience. A lot of people who are casually into video games enjoy watching sports. For them, it doesn't have to be the "perfect" game of football to be enjoyable. People demand authenticity when it comes to sports games because it's representative (at least from an aesthetic viewpoint) of what they watch week in, and week out. Sports are based on real-life, hence people want to play what they see. It's simple as that and completely reasonable. They want to play with the likes of Chelsea in the Premier League, not London FC in the English League.

Agreed. We are one one end of the spectrum and tbh, they're not that many folks standing with us. I know a lot of folks (Americans) who have recently gotten into the beautiful game and they immediately gravitate towards FIFA because of the licenses. I can't fault them as it's readily available with no effort required to load option files, mods, etc... Eventually some see the light but the majority of them use FIFA as their footy fix.

For demo users, what do the possession stats look like vs the CPU?

You can see what konami have tried to do with the way the game plays.

It takes time to get used to it and being used to FIFA controls and an Xbox 360 pad makes playing this demo on the ps3 much more difficult.

That said, the more I play the more I realised in certain scenarios what I should do with the controls, I.e when I should use a combination of bumper or shoulder and turn, just to create that space between the opponent and the ball.

Foot planting is really important, you can't just run and expect to stop and turn in one motion, momentum with slap you on the ass with a great big cheer. This will stop sprinters.

Timing becomes very important if you want to run past players, as does the point of contact of the ball and movement to feint or move the ball past the player

Gone is the feeling of getting sucked into a force field tackle like you do on FIFA.

Defending takes some getting used to and I am still finding I am trying to use the jostle system on FIFA, which I quite like. Again defending is completely different to FIFA as is holding on to the ball for possession, you better know you buttons and it inks if you want to keep that ball.

Shielding is pretty nice, you can see and feel the strength and body weight of players, can see the arm push away the opponent, again not quite used to this or what button combinations to use but can imagine it being very effective when mastered

Running down the wing with the Italian right back, Who is pretty quick allowed me to gain some space and when I was closed down I.e doubled up it felt like I was actually in the right wing position and was trying to dribble through, again much more difficult than the usual FIFA dribbling controls, which is a good thing.

Still not Sussed it out but this game holds some promise, shame about the goal keepers they do seem bad but again need to
Put it into perspective, certain scenarios based on simulation are correct but they are quite flawed still.

I like the throw ins, they feel and look natural.

Passing is nice, I like the variation of it and the body movement for the pass depending on lofted or driven etc.

Going to take some getting used to though

I've been playing the demo (modded ps3) for the past couple of hours now.

I definitely have that 'one more game' feeling going on! It feels like there is a new found freedom to the game but it's hard to explain. I've loving the advanced through ball (you have to switch if on in the settings). It reminds me of John Barnes European Football on the Amiga in that you get a little target for where you want the through ball to go. It's a one time effort though and you only get 'loose' control over it. I'm Also loving the keeper throw feint - double tap x :)

It's all very promising but the game plays like its stuck in treacle. Response times are all over the place and the frame rate is a joke.

No wonder the demo was delayed. Lets hope the finished article is a massive improvement on this.

Oh Konami why do you tease us this way every year?

Anyway, I'm happy you liked the demo. If the gameplay is truly top-notch (despite the obvious flaws, which hopefully will be fixed), this season's game will be an excellent core to begin with.

The only good news today.

I'm amazed EA are allowed to do what they do, bullying the competition with this licenses bullshit, shouldnt be fucking allowed :/

Wouldn't Konami do the same if they were in EA's position? As Konami already secured the UCL and EL licences exclusively.

The modder's version is 10x better.

With EA on the prowl KONAMI has to snatch up what they can (exclusively) and if EA manages to attain the CL license, expect another game, there is no way they are gonna implement CL in the FIFA franchise.
:PIG::PIG::PIG:

EA would not be able to go after modders who mod PES; it's not their property. Only Konami would be able to do that.

I've been saying it for years... Konami should be embracing the modding community. Well, maybe not embracing, because they could be sued by the FAs. But they could at least provide top notch editing tools. Then the FAs would have to go after the individual modders. Which I don't think they would or could. There would be backlash.

Even their edit tools are restricted by EA's licencing.

It's the age old tactic from EA, isn't it? If you can't beat you're competitor for quality, try and reduce their market share via other means. It worked well for the Madden franchise even though it was comprehensively out-classed by 2k's game.

If you ask yourself the simple question "What is the reason behind all this?" the logical answer will always be the following:

An incredibly high percentage of the football game players buy FIFA because it has licences and because it gets promoted as a whole package.

The main problem, in my opinion, are most of the players themselves. How would EA be able to get such a high sales figure if there weren't so many ignorant people who buy their silly game?

I apologise to everybody who might get offended, but the majority of the people who buy FIFA do it because of the licenses and that makes them ignorant and narrow-minded (or put simply: dumb). It's just ridiculous how much the licences matter to most of the people! I really can't stand it and it's inexplicable in my eyes... But the fact is, these kind of silly people give EA the power they need, every year they put out a shitty football game on the market and they get millions of sales.

I bet if some day PES gets the EPL, it would triple the sales immediately, in the exact year this happens...

People are sheep. And that, my dear lads, is going to continue to benefit these jackasses EA unfortunately...

I know, we can talk about this all day.

We the people need to stop funding these soulless disgusting corporate companies! We need to say NO! go away, take your money elsewhere.

I never understand, I really still just don't get why EA for once in your darn lives just focus everything on good gameplay! Is it really that hard? Why always take the cheap route?

They release a embarrassing tech video for their next gen title at E3, one of their claims that for the FIRST time they where able to program more than two players to jump for a header. Something I'm sure Konami did back on the PS2, infact PES 2010, that heavily broken game on rails even had instances of about 10 players on corners fighting for a header.

EA can't keep doing this forever! If they do, god help us all!

EA SPORTS "its in the game"

They don't care how it is , once its there..

The 'Advanced shot' I like it but its broken ingame in this demo, every shot is on target and you can score sometimes because of the crap responsiveness from anywhere.

LOL! i just find the same thing! i try it in practice training and "advanced" shooting seems easier than assisted! :CONF:

Seems to work in the practice area since you can actually miss the target, but ingame its fucked up, same with the through ball, it just don't work because of the responsiveness especially and its not programmed properly.

The real Demo just under 2 weeks away, looking forward to it. :))

Adam Bhatti:

Hi guys. Hope the mods don't mind me opening a new thread here, although it will be locked. I just wanted to post this piece of information in a dedicated section so everyone can see it.

Sorry for the late message, I've been flying back to the UK, but I did receive an email from the team regarding the official line regarding rain. Here it is:

Rain has not been implemented for 2014 as we had to overhaul the whole game and build it from scratch. While implementing rainy weather itself is fairly feasible, we need to think through of how its effect shows through in gameplay. This includes the pitch becoming slippery, ball bouncing, some elements to make the team used to that climate somewhat more power in terms of balance.
We are going to try further this year to get the elements sorted and have them implemented for 2015.

As for the kits getting dirty, this triggers on multiple requirements, often to do with the player contacting the ground.

But I opened this thread specifically because of the issue we have with stadiums. Now this is really important guys, and unfortunately, not very good news. With the omission of rain, I wanted to release any potential negative information ASAP alongside it, with my main aim going forward to focus on the good stuff.

This issue however is not something technical, it actually due to licencing. EA have been extremely aggressive with signing deals with clubs and leagues this year, and it has meant we can't implement major European stadiums, including NO Spanish stadiums. People were getting worried when they announced exclusive deals with Spanish teams. Well it turned out it meant we couldn't implement their stadium, amongst others.

This news came pretty late to us. Which is where a time issue came in, meaning we didn't have time to rebuild other stadiums to replace them. PES 2014 will ship with roughly 20 stadiums.

Adding to the licensing woah, Stadium editor has been removed. This, personally, is the biggest hit. I can't go into it, but this in particular has made the team realise more than ever about acquiring licensing, and we're determined to fight back in this regard next year. If things are removed from edit mode because of licensing each year, it would rip out the soul of PES, and we must not let that happen.

Finally, and less impacting, Teams in Other European League has seen a slight drop in numbers across certain countries. Again (hate to keep saying it) license lockout. Nothing too major, but I'm awaiting final team lists from teams qualifying for Europe before we finalise it.

And that is it. People were asking me 'what else is Konami hiding' after Rain was removed. All I can say is what you see in this thread is a heads up from me.

It's me asking the team to allow me to do this, to reach out and not give users the feeling of being robbed because they didn't know what they were getting themselves into. I wanted to lay it all down, so you can get a full picture.

Going forward, for the next 3-4 weeks, my focus is now all about showing you the good things in PES 2014. This not only includes news on all the modes, it does include the demo on the 11th. We're also lining up plenty of videos too.

So please, take it all in, but expect the team to prove to you all just why these disappointments won't impact the quality of PES 2014 before launch.

Thanks.

One thing I can confirm to you.... I WON'T buy a EA game ever again!
I know that what they are doing is legal and all that.... but that is just sad too see, instead of making their game better and earn fans... they buy those same fans!! FUCK EA!

We need to make an EA rebellion thread, this is getting offtopic. Thanks to me.

I've kept my mouth shut for about 2 years now on this forum, after hearing this exclusive licence dirty deal, i think we have all just had enough of them!

It's not Adam's or Konami's fault at all. This is typical EA stuff. They couldn't make a decent game if their lives depended upon it. They need to rely on exclusivity.

The problem is why didn't Konami last year make their deal exclusive? Why didn't they get exclusive deals back when they were raking in more money?

The stadium editor excuse sounds like bullshit. It will be back next year or the year after once they have time to put it in. They just want to pass the buck, instead of putting it on themselves. There is no legal way a stadium creator, where you create generic stadiums, can be flagged down because of licensing. Either Konami are idiots falling for an idle threat, or they just didn't have the time to put it in. Which is fine if they didn't have the time, but don't give us that lame excuse.

Regarding La Liga stadiums, Konami should have locked an exclusive deal last year. They should have known EA were going to come back with a vengeance after the Camp Nou wasn't allowed to be in their game. Who are the business idiots in charge at Konami for licensing, that did not see that coming?

Why doesn't Konami leverage the licenses it does have to reach an agreement with EA to use PL/Bundesliga licenses in exchange for CL/EL? I just find Konami lack of intent and ideas very frustrating.

PES 2014 demo spain store today leaked
brazilian portuguese menu and english commentary, look own goal at the end of the match.

That looks nice.

Not too bothered about the lack of licensed stadiums although I sympathize with those that are disappointed. One stadium with maybe a choice of turf patterns would do me as long as the gameplay is crack, like it use to be.
