PES 2014 Appreciation Thread

Great to see that PES 2014 discussion is going up again. Solid gameplay with enjoyable physicality, just very unfinished.
Hopefully modding will eventually follow.. Because I think the base is there for a solid game.
I'm struggling with two problems at the moment.

First, I get this damn error 0xc0000142 from patch 1.07 onwards and I can't bypass it in any way (except for one single time, by chance). I think it's an issue with jkgamer.dll, because this dll is there right from patch 1.07 and onwards. Did any of you finally manage to solve this problem?

Secondly, I can't make the no catch up bug tool work: I open it, then I open pes2014 exe; then, when I try to patch it, nothing happens. I read that it creates another exe without the bug, but I find no trace about it.

It's a shame, because, nonetheless, I'm enjoying this game a lot, especially with Fileloader fixes. Very realistic and balanced experience.
It's a pity that this game doesn't have an active modding scene like other old titles. It truly has potential and deserves some recognition after all these years

I've tried different cracks & there's few different of cracks made for this game alone made by different people/groups ( 3DM, RELOADED, SKIDROW/POSTMORTEM & Jenkey ).

-RELOADED cracked from PES 2014 v1.0 to v1.13
-SKIDROW/POSTMORTEM cracked PES 2014 v1.16 aka World Challenge. Skidrow release only for english language while Postmortem for Multi Language, they both same crack.
-Jenkey's crack ; the one with jkgamer.dll usually comes with File Loader
-3DM Crack made by chinese cracker group.

The most stable one is from Reloaded or Skidrow, you woudn't have a problem in newer machine but sadly File Loader don't support for both cracks since v1.12. I think file loader also don't support for 3dm crack

I used to think 0xc0000142 error usually came with AV blocked the file or require admin privilages (which is partially true) but jenkey's crack (jkgamer.dll) is very unstable in newer OS, tested on Windows 10. Hell, sometimes you need few times to click it before the game to be opened. Which is shame because it's the only crack that fully supported by File Loader.

File Loader is very good tool no doubt about it but i wish it's as much as stable like sider.

I brought WE 2014 Aoki some month ago. It plays a bit better than PES 2014 Latest patch, less input lag.
Fortunately i found a basic option file with all kits for in-game teams and few faces.

It was only for collection but in comparison to a 60fps PC patched PES 2014, there's no match. Sad that the game isn't better otherwise, on Windows it would have been doable to import J-League 1 and 2 teams with all players having a preset face.
Playing J-league on every PES, ML or League mode is always pretty immersive.

I'll perhaps be alone to think that but PES 2014 > 2015 + 2016.
PES 2015 lost everything i liked on PES 2014, and then one little push on the shoot and it was instantly goal where you were in the 15-20 last meters.
PES 2016.... The same but even from long distance as bownling where too heavy for keeper to make a save or worst : catch the ball.

This game is the last fox engine that still have some elements from PS2. It's still raw & crap to play but if konami a bit patience, we could've a better game.

Does anybody know if there is a tool to unlock free side choice in league mode or cup mode (like sider for pes2017)?

I hope this information helps anyone who needs to install the game:

1 - I downloaded the iso from "archive. org" (Size:11gb >>This iso has all the DLC and updates, the last update 1.16 doesn't work);
2 - I downloaded update 1.16 (3DM) from Hayes (page 15) and it worked perfectly;
3 - And then I installed Fire Patch 6.0 and it also worked without problems.

It's great to see interest in PES 2014 being renewed. I think it's a solid and underappreciated game, I played a season with Bolton Wanderers and had a great time. :)

I still have a hope that a "rain or cloudy conditions mod" is created someday (which Jenkey was close to completing back in the day).. Unfortunately, since I know next to zero about this kind of modding, it remains a hope. But a solid game nonetheless coupled with a good patch (I installed PESEdit), with good inertia and ball physics.

I installed PES EDIT too, just because that the only one i found and PES 2014 ML wasn't in my radar (there still too much fake league, but Bundes is great).

Then a tool i don't think having anymore named "No Catchup bug", no certain. A very simple and light tool to apply on the exe. Same gameplay but without catchup "bug" which was in reality a way to defend easier... Not necessary with the latest Konami patch improving already the long distance goal.

But well, the game is a first try, not exactly a demo tech but looked like a beta so there still was some unexecpted reactions, as the physics was too unpredictable with their A.I.

One note : even with all those errors and all, my results where more footballitisc and less tennistic than PES 2015 and 2016.
More bugged, unmastered by the devs, but more balanced of course with no intention. At least in my case, there's tons of approachs and skills levels to compare with others people regarding a sports game.

@NeoRetro I'm playing with the "No Catchup bug" fix as well!

I definitely think than in terms of gameplay, PES 2014 is better than PES 2015 or 2016. A more well-balanced game overall.

If one can overlook the very "basic, bare-bones" feeling of Master League, and the lack of weather variety, it's a solid experience. :TU:

Imagine if Konami postponed the release of this game for, February 2014. The same as what SEGA did recently for FM 2025.
I think the game (match engine, players modelizations..) would have been better since Konami had more time to work on it, so the fans reactions as well.

They did this with the official patches and DLC.

appreciation thread for pes 14?

thank you konami for making worst PES game ever :APPLAUD:
I can get that PES 2014 is not for everyone, but there was a lot of intent behind PES 2014, and is probably the most simulation one of all the PES. The game was out unpolished, there's no doubt about it, needed at least another development year, and instead they should have made the move they made with PES 2020/2021, where PES 2021 was completely a season patch of PES 2020. Had they made that with PES 2014, and had they made a PES 2015, or even a 2016 with a completely polished game, and we would be talking probably about the best football simulation game ever.

However, PES 2014 came out in 2013 as the first game made under an engine developed EXCLUSIVELY for MGS V (where do you think that the name comes from? Name of Fox Engine comes from Fox Hound, the undercover agency featured in MG Series) and trying to be a ground breaking game. The project was way too ambitious for an anual release, and clearly it showed how genious Hideo Kojima was even when making a Football Game, cause for real, this game has some ideas and concepts that even while indeed not so well polished, where completely ambitious and actually undercooked.

I repeat, a Football game under the Fox Engine is something that should have been released after MGS V, which was released 2015, meaning it should have been PES 2016 or 2017 in order to have a decent game in that engine. In fact, peak Fox Engine PES are PES 2021 and PES 2017. Why? Because with PES 2017 they finally got the grip of the engine and was the polishment of PES 2015 style of control (since later with PES 2018 and 2019 is when scripting started appearing much more masively even when it had been present already since at least PES 2014).

Later in 2019 with PES 2020 they made the return to PES 2014 control style (with right stick flicks and such) but way more polished, with many more interim animations and better animation blending, and still though, animations where not as much realistic as PES 2014. But there was still a lot of weight into those animations.

It was with PES 2021 that they made probably the perfect basis for later modding by the community cause it is undoubtly the best PES made in terms of controls, mechanics over the pitch, animations, etc. It is probably not the most revolutionary PES ever made, but is undoubtly the most evolutionary PES ever made, and while it has some flaws in terms of pace and pace change that impede it to be more realistic, there's no doubt that is the best basis for a Football simulation made for the community.

PES 2021 is the closest thing we have to a Football Simulator, and it's not a casuality that it builds over several of the things seen with PES 2014. They decided to try to make back something similar to what they had done with PES 2014 back in the days, but the fact they had already broken terms with Hideo Kojima and was not in contact with Konami anymore (and is not only HK, is his whole team, ofc), which was the men and team that had the whole knowledge over the engine. You can see this on how they cut a lot of content from PES 2021, like the morale system (which was included in the physical form already) or simply the varycenter concept that in PES 2021 seems to be either gone or not so fleshed out.

Things like ball fighting, which was indeed a bit too long animation where you were locked in, but also had a lot of detail into it and felt like a minigame, or other things like the animations kicked in by the own varycenter system, are things that if HK team was on charge in PES 2021, having fleshed out much more the Fox Engine, would have been much better worked out. And how do I know that? Simply. Imagine all the ideas behind Death Stranding movement system, put into a football game. That's what he had started doing with PES 2014, and if he was still with Konami and him or part of his team still were in charge of development of later PES, we would have gotten a much better PES.

And where do I want to get with all these? To the fact that there's motives to have a PES 2014 appreciation thread. Worst or best is completely subjective. For example, I do think that while very well polished, PES 2013 is one of the most overvalued games of the franchise, and PES 2015 is for me quite worse probably than PES 2014. PES 2016 and 2017 are ok, but they are not, IMHO, so much rich in concepts as 2014 or later 2020 and 2021. Much more arcady, and for me PES 2021 does good the concept of right stick dribbling, unlike FIFA. Much more intuitive moves related to where you move the ball towards, and that you have to pull of more in syncrony with general timing of the match, rather than just do random combination of movements that give overpowered moves that render the defense useless.

PES 2014 brought to the table the concept of using right stick to move the ball towards certain direction and play with momentum of the defender, rather than simply make a random movement with the ball. Now, don't get me wrong, I also like some of the movements you can do in FIFA, and would add them maybe to PES (without making the defender go completely idiot) and I like the concept that certain movements make the defender have certain difficulties to follow you up depending on their stats, but all this based in a physic base. Again, all this was brought to the table by PES 2014. It was a highly conceptual game that essentially, brought to the franchise a next level of seeing football and how the playability of a PES should be like. And that is something to be appreciated. Sure, it wasn't the most polished game. Generally conceptual games are not. You have to WORK OVER THOSE CONCEPTS. Something that Konami refused doing until 5 years later. We had PES 2015-2019, this is 5 titles, working with the previous control scheme, Konami decided to play safe instead of building over the concepts of PES 2014, like they did 5 years later. If they did with PES 2015 what they've done with PES 2020, or had already started it at least 2 titles before with PES 2018, we would have skipped two titles in the franchise that, at least for me, give nothing new to the saga (except a higher use of script, as I said before, that would continue on PES 2020-21), and god knows where PES would have gotten before changing into UE. Probably they would have polished much more the concept behind PES 2020-21 and would have carried much more into eFootball, making it a better game than what it is now.

So no, PES 2014 was not a mistake. The mistake was going back into PES 2015 arcady style, in first term, and specially, continuing with it for so much time instead of going back to PES 2014 concepts much before. They should have continue with what they made in PES 2014, and build 2015 over it, they should have had better terms with Hideo Kojima and his team, instead of fucking things up for so long. But Konami as a company has taken a really bad way since the beginning of 10's decade, when the whole nipon industry when down. And probably, they were one of the worst exponents of it. They became fearfull, not daring to innovate, very conservative, and undoubtly that wasn't good for any of the franchises. And while other companies recovered a bit from it, for Konami it was way too late. Indeed, they tried to come back with PES 2020 and 21 to innovatives concepts of more than 5 years before, but it was too late, and in the way they also lost a lot of their sagas, like Castlevania, MG, and many others, that stayed uncontinued.

So yes, I think PES 2014 deserves an appreciation thread. It was the last time that Konami dared to try something revolutionary. It was the last spark of the childhood of many of us. It was the last spark of the old industry of videogames, at least to what football games refers. The last time someone dared to make something different. Only for that, this game deserves an appreciation thread.

Its a brilliant game imo.
Different yes, but different on a good way.
More people should really dive in to it, and give a proper chance.
Thanks, and a good write up @Hels The Ronin
I wish we could have the same tools for PES 2014 than we have for 2021. I'd like to know what would happen if we could change the adresses of player reaction in PES 2014 and give a higher reaction, how they would behave. Cause I've got that feeling that players are not only heavy, but also less reactive than what they should, like certain ammount of input lag. Now I don't mean that players don't have inertia, but that they start bending much before and give you a more precise control of the weight of your player over the pitch. I think the idea of varycenter is simply great. I also think that control you've got over the weith of your player is not too much. Animations are great visually, yes, but a bit tad too longer, and blending was not that good. In 2021 there's a lot of advance in that sense, and even eFootball nowadays drinks directly of PES 2014 tradition in sense of control schemes and certain concepts. They cut off a lot of the weight of the players, though, and say they now feel oversensitive, quite much the opposite.

if you don't think "pes 14 is arcade", you're just nostalgia lover. no pes game can ever be worse than pes 14. even if you think it's not arcade, you have to accept robotic animations, stupid passes and ai that has lack of iq.

i'm sure about that most of you did not play pes 14 more than 20 hours at the time.

i'm sure about that most of you will probably say "fc 25 was great" or "efootball has best simulation gameplay" in next 15 years.

you all are just nostalgia romantic. and probably most of you think "gerrard and lampard is better than modric or de bruyne".

something in the past is not better than newer ones because of nostalgia.

FC 25 is way better than 24, that's for sure. The whole saga has gone to hell since FIFA 18 though. And eFootball is undoubtly the most simulation vanilla GP from all the games at the market right now.

I already admitted you that PES 14 had it flaws. It was far from being a perfect game. Again, it was a game made in an engine done for a tactical espionage/sabotage/shooting game.

And you're confusing terms. Animations were not robotic. They were actually pretty detailed and realistic. What felt robotic was the controls because those animations, in that same intent for being detailed, where way TOO LONG. You couldn't brake them mid of the animation, blending was a nightmare... System was yet to be polished. Ball physics, however, we're great.

The AI is not something you didn't saw in any other game, I can't remember of any game that doesn't have a simplistic AI. There's few games where AI try to pass backwards, for example.

I repeat, it was far from perfect, but it was the seed for PES 2020 and 21, and if they polished PES 14 and it's concepts instead of turning backwards in PES 15, probably, PES would have gotten way further as a saga, I stead of dying in the mediocreness it had until PES 2021, that is, with all it's flaws, the best football game I might ever played, or at least one of the best. And modded, not discussion anymore.

You see, the thread is not called "PES 14 is the best PES ever made" not even "PES 14 was actually good", it is called "PES 14 appreciation thread" cause it was dished in an unfairly way, and though it had many problems, the moments it worked it was a fucking charm. Had somewhat a realistic tempo, specially because of the ball physics, shootings felt actually great, and many other things.

I insist that if the concept had been polished, the animations shortened and given more control to players mid animation to blend them into others, etc., it'd been a great game. And modded PES 2021 is the proof.

I wish that this game would have the same amount of mods/tools as well.
To me, i have to play this game a bit differently vs mos other Pes games mainly because of input lag etc, but that mak s it a bit more interesting, i always play this very conservative and with some risk management, otherwise you'll get punished straight away

You said everything @Hels The Ronin hats off
:WORSHIP:
But don't say that in efootball thread.
Looks like i did a blasphemous by talking bad over PES6 while i was enhancing Efootball;
Not my fault if PES6 is surely my worst reminder PES from PS2 era due to all i said in that thread. Fortunately i played on 360, the game was far more enjoyable. Didn't tried EA FC 24, i spend already 200 bucks for 3 versions i didn't make more than 15 games (20-22-24)
I would like the good ol'time when there was demo for practically all games on every store.

About PES 2014 i don't think people said it was robotic, but "on rails", it's a bit different. I personnally founded, when it was launched, that the game with Kojima helping behind to apprehend the engine better could be transformed in a monster of football game, unreachable in all areas.
Also i replayed it, well i replayed WE 2014 Aoki on PS3 and i don't feel that game as a demo tech like many people said myself included.

Now, i see that game as just an ovni, a game apart in the PES odyssey.

I've got fond memories over PES 6 but simply because of technology, you couldn't make a Football simulator that era. PES 6 IMHO, was a great game and really good, but I can understand that not everyone has good memories of it. Same that I can understand that not everybody has good memories of PES 14, cause yes, it had several problems. But I ain't talking if the game is good or not. I am talking about intentions, about what they were trying to make and where they were trying to get to. Those are not opinions, those are facts.

It is a fact that PES 14 featured varycenter and that gave the game some very peculiar feeling, for the good, and for the bad. It is a fact that it was something revolutionary, specially the fact that they were trying to feature a gameplay that put more emphazise on momentum and gravity center of the players and ball, rather than in fast, fluid response, that is what other games were trying.

This RATHER THAN, having to priorize something to the other cause they didn't manage how to do both, is what killed the game. And it is a fact aswell, that if they had kept working with this concepts in mind, probably, they would found a fix to this dilemma.

That's all, I ain't want to open the melon that PES was even actually a good game, when it didn't even featured rain. But it was somewhat enjoyable. And if you add mods to the mix, even more. It had personality, it had some hmmm, traits that made it unique, and that I'd still like to see in a modern game. PES 2021 or eFootball 0.9.1 is the closest thing we have to that, and I don't think they actually work with varycenter technology anymore. With a proper animation blending that allowed certain animations cut mid animation, or blend into a different one, that gave more control to the user, PES 2014 would have been probably the closest to a Football Simulator seen. It would still have the problem that every game has of the shooting precision and lack of dispersion, but it would have been probably the closest thing.
