PES 2013 Discussion Thread

Have a look at Fiorentina's default formation, it's similar to the formation you have.

ok i just cheked it basically 4 straight across the middle and one def midfieler. Maybe it makes for a better game the one you mentioned but i have found since pes3 the formation i use. with 1df mid and 2 att mid is just a beast formation, and easy to win with. ANd so far in pes 2013 i have been dominating offline ML since i switched back to it.

Thats the thing I love about PES though tactics make a visible differnce,

Whereas FIFA it dont matter if you play 3-4-3, 5-3-2 4-4-2 etc etc game still plays the same lol

I got tired of playing demo2 with only 5 mins per match and ordered the full xbox360-version, installed the newest 1.03-patch and the newest download-content and imho it's similar to but a bit better than demo2.

Animation and ballphysics seem to be tweaked for the better. And being able to set the time on 20 mins gives the matches the room to breathe.

And like with demo2, setting the team on defensive is the way to go.

My goalkeeper is parrying too much, but otherwise it plays pretty well on the pitch in exhibition games. Haven't tried yet the competitive modes.

But what happened to the daylight-games? The lighting is all fuzzy and blurry. It seems like Konami tries to worsen the day-lighting so that the night-games don't look so awful in comparison.

And possession-rates are still a bit off, I usually get 60% or more, even with weak teams against big teams like Barcelona or Real Madrid.

And when the ball is rolling towards the sideout, my players don't develop that will to try to get to the ball, in fact they slow down a bit when near the ball so that it would go over the line.

Still, small and bigger nigglings aside, I'm enjoying the game.

how? what you mean and what does it do?

In Tactical Assistance there is a setting that changes the attack-defense-mentality. Usually when being equal or leading I set it on defensive as it helps in keeping the shape of the formation.

When being behind by two goals I set it on offensive to play a more risky attacking-style, of course with the hightened danger of being open to counter-attacks.

Unfortunately those tactical assistance-options can't be saved under the four formations-setup-screens separately. When I save the tactical options they are saved globally no matter what of the four formation-setups I select.

Played some more of the 1.03-xbox360-version and these are my fresh observations compared to demo2:

The CPU plays more varied, this is a most welcome development. It still can't reach near the 50% or more of possession, but at least its attacks aren't nearly as repetitive as in the demo2, though it could still be even more varied.

Playing on speed -1 feels great.

Referree seems more competent.

Playerswitching seems to work better.

Still, sometimes when I select a player and I try to control him to intercept a loose ball, he remains in his automatic movement (away from the ball) too long (even though the cursor is on him) until the game registers that I want to control him.

There's a bit too much space for the players.

Good game so far, imho considerably better than demo2 in most areas.

I've noticed the best way to get the opponent to play the ball around a bit is not to rush around like a mad man but literally just change your player selection until you think it's worth closing down to win the ball. If you try and win the ball back immediately after you lose it, the AI will not get anywhere near 50% possession.

One thing I've been trying to do as well is to walk more with the ball. If you watch a game, a lot of time, playing the ball out is done at no more than 50% of a player's full sprint speed - yet a lot of people seem to play video games always sprinting. I've been working hard not to do that and the game can look awesome.

this game of pes has got to be the most scripted piece of shit online i have ever had the misfortune to play!!!
especially when playing real madrid which you will do 99 times out of 100.
thats why everybody plays as them its stupid.
the game is totally biased towards them, what you can do with ronaldo in this game is just absurd.
added to the above the piss poor player switching the stupid teammates ai (running away from loose balls again just stupid)
rubbish gks, invisible walls that pop up, that stop your defender coming across for the ball. and you have one of the most fustrating games ever.;

so what should we do then ?

its up to you but certain things the basics need fixing for the next version. if they are not i will not be buying simple as. me, i have stopped playing this version now, its lasted 4 to 5 months and i am bored with it. time to move on to other games now.

Yeah, i would broadly agree with this. I am finding that the CPU certainly trys to open you up more with passing and moving rather than ice skating through your defence or, out of nowehere, pinging those one touch 3-4 passes in the space of 5 seconds that seem to script them a goal on occasion.

I still find that the Refs are slightly unbalanced in what they penalise. 1.03 has improved things but i still see instances where the CPU gets a fouls for what looks like a fair tackle (complete with yellow card for me) and does not blow up for fouls against the CPU.

Also, i have not noticed any improvement with the player switching problems. I find that this is an acute problem defensively. I cough up a lot of goals simply because i am seemingly unable to control the nearest defender. This usually happens on crosses (particularly corners) where i should be able to clear the ball but the nearest defender just does not react. This can be really annoying.

do u mean as in why you press l2+up or down etc to change attacking mentality in game and there are 6 colorured bars next to player name and you can up 6 bars all out attack or 0 bars all out defense ertc. is this what u are on about>?

I posted this in ML thread but thought Id share here as well

First bit of scripting last night ive seen so far this season.
Playing Spurs in CL semi and Ive hammered their goal from the first minute until the 39th and seen their keeper pull off save after save plus I hit woodwork and about 5 times.
In their first attack - long ball over the top and you guessed it - 0-1 down. OK, I can take that as that happens in football.
Straight from KO I go up the other end and pick up where I left off and they break again and.....0-2 down. Annoying. Straight from KO again I go and lay seige to their goal. Long ball from them and 0-3 down after 44 mins. 3 goals in 5 mins. Joke.

2nd half again they cant get out their half - long ball - 0-4 down.

Turn it off. Sulk. Go to bed.

You should be able to sue games companies for moments like that

So many times I have thrown my controller across the room etc I once bit my controller out of the pure frustration of games like you mention....what if I had broken a tooth?

I remember I game I had from last year. For some reason it always happens when I play QPR lol.

The game ended 7-6, no shit. Everyone of their goals was a long ball breakaway. It was the most scripted game I'd ever played. At 6-6, in the last moments of the game I went one on one, keeper made save, hit the post on a rebound, the next rebound hit the post, then the next shot was saved by keeper onto crossbar corner.

From that corner, I had a header saved point blank, before I smashed home eventually for 7-6.

It was utterly ridiculous and the most outrageous game I've ever played where the CPU was just fkin determined to win. The replays on their breakaways were hilarious. I'm talking defenders acting like complete mongols on orange arrows.

can say same for fifa. In reality break aways are the easiest way to score even in real football, counters etc...

Problem is not that counters are easy to score from but fact that counters happen to often and to easily.

Should be tactics to prevent it.

Playing defensive line deeeper and a holding mid etc can help.

The main problem that gives the oppurtunity to play breakaway style is player switching..Almost all of gaols ı've conceeded are not my fault..Also Gk's are really bunch of stupids. They never save a shoot..I am really tired of conceeding cheap goals..

Agree with the above posts. Although I have combatted it to an extent it is annoying when you play some CPU teams and they just constantly lose possession on the counter. The imbalance of attack and attacking players' stats ourgunning defenders and defenders stats and the fact that player movement is too flexible, means that the game can become an end to end fest.

KONAMI needs to develop the CPU possession game lots.

They need to understand that the CPU hardness should be defined, on many occasions, by the CPU being smarter with the ball and moving your players around. The odd exception would be a Stoke type team that relies on long ball and an aerial challenge.

PES 6 had a batter balance for example (certainly modded) because the emphasis was on the attackers to break down a defence not the other way around. You could play a really good defensive game if you wished and the CPU would play in front of you probing. Countering was also harder because of the pressing of the defenders on the striker which made you or the CPU have to hold up play and play it back more often than not,

There just seems to be too much space in PES.

Those are my biggest hopes for the new engine. I'm hoping that it's been a case that the current engine just couldn't cope with AI that was advanced enough to keep the ball, meaning the current engine relies so much on breakaways and speed. If its not addressed with the new engine then something is wrong with Konami's creative vision.

As ccshopland related, on PS2 games the CPU keeps possesion a lot more, and take clever decisions. I don't think it's a engine problem. It's more related to how the current Konami developers want the game to be played.

I'm a FIFA fan but decided to buy PES to give it a run, just bought it 10 minutes ago in the mall actually, and I've already started a Master League season with Barcelona on Regular difficulty! So far I've bought in Ter Stegan and sold Valdes to Manchester United and Neymar from Santos. I've yet to play any matches but will get back to you guys with an update when I do, which will probably be after I finish cook and play some Football Manager :D

Okay just got back into it and played a couple games, beat Real Sociedad 2-0, Osasuna 3-1, Valencia 2-1 and I drew 1-1 with Getafe. Gameplay doesn't seem as smooth as FIFA 13, but it's a good game! So, to recap:

RESULTS:

FC Barcelona 2-0 Real Sociedad
Osasuna 1-3 FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona 2-1 Valencia
Getafe 1-1 FC Barcelona

Does anyone here know people that play PES in their daily life? (Friends, colleagues etc.)

I know loads of people who play FIFA (which I do myself now and again) but I am the only person I know who plays PES at all and people always seem surprised, hardly seeming to think it still existed!

I don't blame them, after all FIFA has become such a popular game on this generation (and with good reason, it's good at what it tries to do).

So I'm just curious to see if most other people are in the same boat or if in certain countries PES has more popularity?

So, continuing my Master League, here are the latest results picking up from last time:

Zenit 0-1 Barcelona
Barcelona 5-0 Granada
Sevilla 2-2 Barcelona
Barcelona 2-0 Lille
Barcelona 3-1 Real Madrid
Deportivo 0-0 Barcelona
Rayo 0-4 Barcelona
Benfica 1-1 Barcelona
Barcelona 3-0 Celta
Racing Santander 0-6 Barcelona

Yep, been playing PES for quite a few hours now, trying to reach as far as I can before the week starts! I'm 1 point clear of Madrid at the top of La Liga, I'm 2nd in my UCL group and I'm making some good headway in the CDR with a 6-0 win over Santander. I'll put in another hour or two on PES and update again after guys!

EDIT: Okay, here are some more results:

Mallorca 2-3 Barcelona
Barcelona 2-1 Zaragoza
Levante 1-0 Barcelona
Barcelona 5-3 Bilbao
Barcelona 3-1 Santander
Betis 3-3 Barcelona
Barcelona 6-2 Atletico
Valladolid 2-4 Barcelona
Barcelona 2-2 Villarreal
Barcelona 1-0 Espanyol

So with the January window opened, I've sold Neymar to Man City for 60 mil after he only scored 10 goals for me playing in all games so far, and I'm spotting up either Gareth Bale or El Shaarawy. Between those pieces of business, I had two games:

Malaga 0-2 Barcelona
Real Sociedad 4-5 Barcelona

Okay, I'ma go to bed now, had enough, as that 5-4 match shows, my eyes were so heavy I defended real shit...

Dude, unless you're playing 5 min games you've had one hell of a mega-session! :P

When I think about it I kind of rue how much of my teenage years I spent glued to the computer monitor on PES4, 5 and 6 (and GTA:VC/SA among others) when I probably could have played snooker professionally had I given it enough of my attention (I was on my local news for it and could often score breaks over 50 when I had to reach the table by standing on a bottle crate...) and been more social. Uni has changed that a lot although I still enjoy the odd gaming sesh!

We have a PES 13 Master League thread here which may be a more relevant place to post your updates, but I'm no moderator so post wherever you think best, this place seems fairly inactive these days anyway. :P

Goddamn this uni assignment, I need to stop procrastinating!

Random question but I thought it might be funny to try a spot of diving, it's been impossible to do in previous games but having read that it's possible in this version I thought I'd give it a try. I don't approve of diving but it is just PES after all.

Anyhow, I assigned the dive command to one of my skill moves so that all I need to do is press L1 and down on the right stick. Like in previous games, if you do a dive the ref instantly gives you a yellow card. Same in this game too it seems.

I had read that you can win a free kick if you dive when a player makes a challenge that causes your player to stumble, but I found that during this short time your commands are momentarily disabled until the animation is finished, so I don't think you can do this. I've never managed to pull one off.

It must be possible to successfully dive, or surely Konami wouldn't have put it in the game, surely,

Anyone ever managed it?
