PES 2013 Discussion Thread

Random question but I thought it might be funny to try a spot of diving, it's been impossible to do in previous games but having read that it's possible in this version I thought I'd give it a try. I don't approve of diving but it is just PES after all.

Anyhow, I assigned the dive command to one of my skill moves so that all I need to do is press L1 and down on the right stick. Like in previous games, if you do a dive the ref instantly gives you a yellow card. Same in this game too it seems.

I had read that you can win a free kick if you dive when a player makes a challenge that causes your player to stumble, but I found that during this short time your commands are momentarily disabled until the animation is finished, so I don't think you can do this. I've never managed to pull one off.

It must be possible to successfully dive, or surely Konami wouldn't have put it in the game, surely,

Anyone ever managed it?

hi Luis SUAREZ nice to meet you

Pure Utter Scripted Shite
online especially and also offline its a friggin joke!!!
pes 6 ps2 blinds this crap.
Thanks for that.

I think I speak for everyone when I say this - that was an absolutely fantastic read, so creative and insightful.

You should publish a novel, you have the talent to go a long way!

Damnit I still can't dive. I've tricked the commentator a few times but haven't won a free kick yet. Ironically the COM did a blatant dive against me (you can tell by th way they throw themselves to the ground) and surprise surprise won a free kick.

I've just been trying it offline for a laugh but it seems impossible to do. If you get hit by a tackle and stumble, which I've read is the point where you take the dive, you can't because you're kinda disconnected from the ball and the game no longer thinks you have control of it, so skill moves etc don't work.

Hey Guys,

I'm debating whether or not to purchase PES 2013. It is mid-February after all, so I know I would be getting it a little late to the party and I'm not convinced it has the shelf-life of my beloved PES 6. Should I go for it or wait for a hopefully better game to arrive in PES 2014? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve-O

if u mainly play off line i'd say avoid buying it. it's a script fest with the same goals over and over and a piss poorly design boring master league.

if u are an online player the game can be fun with the right people and setting.

my 2 cents

i disagree i have many fun varied games offline on pro level at least.

Online is far worse playing against through ball merchants is far more repetitive. Or real/barca whores.

I've said this before, and I'm sure others have as well, but still offer advice for those who keep crossing into the keeper's arms.

If you play a 442, for example, play your side-midfielders inverted, on the opposite wing. When that midfielder is charging down the wing with the ball, press R2 for a full stop, dribble back a step or two (the defender will usually over-run the play) and now your side-midfielder is on the natural foot for an inswinging cross. I almost always double-press cross for a mid-level inswinger. Reasons:

1)there is very little chance for the keeper to rush out and catch the ball because (if the the cross is mid-level and inswinging) they want to protect the near post from your cutting CF. Even a one-press cross (so a high ball to the far post) means the keeper has to come across his own defenders to reach the ball. Very unlikely.

2)as in real-life, inswinging crosses have the advantage of flying towards the goal, making the keeper unlikely to give up the goal mouth for what is, in the end, a shot. To that end, there is the opportunity for deflections and rebounds on a ball that is heading towards the goal

3) inswinging crosses seem to increase the odds of corners as the defenders often attempt last-ditch header-clearances to the direction of best opportunity

4) in the same vein, you reduce what is, for me, either a flaw in the game or an aspect of tactics. Outswinging crosses seem to get header-clearances or keeper-punches that fly out towards midfield, often far over the heads of your on-rushing midfielders. Thus the ball drops near midfield and your two attackers, two side-midfielders, often both centre midfielders, and perhaps one side-back, are beyond the ball, leaving you exposed to a counter-attack. The opportunity to make a mistake with your backline is reduced to nothing

5) Own-goals. It doesn't happen too often, but I did win a game against Wigan with two in-swinging crosses that were nicked by defenders toes into their own net.

Of course it's important to remember, in my opinion, to keep your side-backs on their natural foot for effective clearances in your own half. The only exception, for me, is if I'm playing an 'offensive sideback' with a 'defensive' sidemidfielder above, where it is far more likely for the sideback to be ahead of the side-midfielder on the wing. However, I never play a sideback with the 'offensive sideback' card as they are completely unpredictable on defense. Frankly, in my 442, I always attempt to play a side-midfielder with 3 for offense and 2 for defense with a sideback with 2 for offense and 3 for defense. Or vice-versa.

--good day!

It may be a good idea to try the demo out first.

And then there's this little beauty of an add-on:
http://evo-web.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=68363

Personally I find the gameplay of PES 2013 pretty good, but as others have said, the single player modes in general aren't too great.

I've said this before, and I'm sure others have as well, but still offer advice for those who keep crossing into the keeper's arms.
(Removed most of quote to save space)

Good advice - I agree with you but thought I'd also add that whether you single-tap or double-tap also has a big impact on the cross, as does holding R2 for a lofted cross (useful if you have a big striker who can nod it down/back). Slowing your player down, setting up their posture for a clean strike with the stronger foot and aiming with the left analog stick are vital if you have the time - I'd say most of my goals come from crosses, outswingers or inswingers.

I play with zero-bars assistance so sliding the ball through the middle can be a bit too intricate/tricky at times, especially if you're not playing too well so just whipping it in early is quite effective sometimes too, although not quite so much as on PES 2011, it was deadly on that if you spotted a run!

Let's hope the transition by Konami is a much swifter one this time - we don't want the shambles of PES 2008 all over again!

All next gen engines look phenomenal !!! If PES will be close to that... OMG :)
PS4 is coming this fall , so i was right ! We will have next gen PES this year, that new engine is for PS4 , XBOX720 and PC next gen game, current engine will be for PS3 and Xbox 360 .

The PS4 demo doesn't look very special to me, those gamedemos are possible on this gen as well.

What I like though is that "share"-button, which should make it much easier to capture what you play and share it. Now that is imho a most welcome and good idea.

I also like the streaming-service which seems though limited to demos and PS3-games. But I guess Sony wants to test the waters with that service and be on the safe side, should the industry as a whole move to a streaming-service-model.

May I ask regarding the PS3 version. When linking up your myPES account, is anyone elses Confirm Password greyed out?

Secondly, where do you activate the online pass ingame if you previously did it (Deleted PES data by accident)?

There was no overhaul in the game's looks from PES2->PES3 what makes you think there will be one this time?
It's always good to hope, but the fact is PES graphical engine has always been a step behind compared to other games of it's time. I think PES14 will catch up with most current good-looking sports games (NFL etc), at most.

I remember pes 3 being one of the most impressive sport games on ps2, i don't know what you are talking about. The gap between pes 2 and pes 3 was huge especially animtion wise. Pes 3 is still today better in motion than pes 2013, just saying.

If Konami learns how to use ps4 power the technical jump will be huge as well
Ps4 is easier to develop for compared to ps3, this should help them.

Whatever the case, I hope Konami can iron out some of the downright stupid and illogical issues with this game.

Such as, why oh why does the game force your goalkeeper to kick the ball up the pitch if he has hold of it for five seconds? All it does is force you to either roll it out immediately, or the COM makes him give the ball away before your team have even got up the pitch. Just let you have hold of the ball for as long as you want and then stop the game clock after five seconds. At least that stops people from time wasting online, and offline, I'd be able to wait for my team to get back into position before clearing. It's maddening.

That would be ridiculous online - if you were winning someone could just nod the ball back to their keeper and keep hold of it until you quit.

It's in the laws of the game (law 12, p37) that a goalkeeper must, after having control of the ball with their hands, redistribute it within six seconds.

This law is obviously applied with the referee's discretion in real life, but I think it is much better for the game to make some compromises, as such forcing the player to kick the ball than it is to let them; 1) keep hold of the ball indefinitely, or 2) receive a booking and give away an indirect free kick.

Other things that I would find stupid to be punished for in a football game are;

Handball (you can't prevent this or perform it intentionally)
The keeper handling outside the area (he's CPU controlled, no way of preventing this)
An opponent blocking my keeper from kicking from his hands (i.e. FIFA), this results in a free kick in real football.
Poor offside decisions - it's a game, there's no reason it can't work this out 100% correct.
Goal line decisions - same as above.
Dissent - wouldn't mind in FM, but has no place in PES/FIFA (doesn't FIFA with Kinect react to swearing?).

There are many things that have to be different from real football in order to offer an experience that isn't frustrating.

Why's that? Do players losing online refuse to kick off? Where's the difference?
It kicks off automatically - I know because I had to answer the door at half time when I was due to kick off the second half, came back and I'd conceded 3 goals!

It counts down on any dead ball situation and performs it automatically if you take too long - throws, free kicks, corners, penalties etc.

How PES online works in terms of pausing is very much better than FIFA in terms of that though - getting 2 minutes of pause time so any quick changes will only take up 4-5 seconds. On FIFA any pause takes away from your total number of allowed pauses (3 I think) and you can't enter the menus yourself if it was your opponent who paused the game!

I'd be all for your suggestion if it were purely for offline play - let people mod their experiences however they please, the more options the better (remember FIFA 98... intentional hacking people down, no fouls, no offsides, indoor pitch - great fun!) but when it comes to online play there needs to be a set of rules that make the game hard to exploit/grief your opponent.
Some people pause the game on EVERY stoppage and instantly cancel as soon as the menu comes up meaning they lose no "pause time", but it makes the game freeze up for a few more seconds before continuing, that is very annoying but rare to come across.

Yep that's why I only play unranked games now - people will do anything in their power to get the win. I don't understand that really - nobody gives a fuck if you're ranked 1,000th or 20,000th in the world on PES (or any other game).

It's must be some kind of ego boost to them though, and I suppose if that's entertainment to them, then "whatever floats your boat".

It used to be even worse back on PES5 and 6 - the people with the top rankings would throttle their connections when it was their hosting half (back then that's how it worked) and rack up the goals against their helpless opponent!

Join private leagues. There are posts in Evo-web leading to some of them.

I STRONGLY recommend this. Had lost pleasure with MLO and all its problems/exploits, joining(by chance)a like-minded community of PES/football lovers has changed everything for me.
I NEVER played more pleasurable games than now, never liked PES so much.
Tactical battles, manual v manual; 1PA v 1PA, full assisted, trying tricks/ showboating, simulating classic matches with attention to detail, like line-ups, style of play, half time changes... the works!

A "little" more enjoyable than facing no midfield formations and VanDerMirchers(SCUMofTheEarth all of ya), and probably the reason Konami made this game after all.

PES is alive fellows.Just stay away from MLO. That shit takes years of life from football lovers.

Sorry, meant to say ps2->ps3, the previous console generation change.

Just some question. Is there any way of "forcing" a volley/kick from a cross? I know there is in FIFA, and the amount of times where its a clear lolly/bicycle kick and they header it is annoying me.

With shooting, how do you perform a Long Range Drive shot? I could do them last year, but when I try this year, not working atall.

How do you do a power shot which stays on the ground? The CPU with Suarez keeps doing this to me.

Also, is there a way of using my Bundesliga teams against friends online in non-ranked matches? I only play PES online with friends and we both wish we could play as them.

Have you been into the settings and changed the setting to 1080 (by default it's 720), also make sure it's on high.

See my video above, doesn't look appalling to me

This one is from when the demo was out in this thread, but how do you change it to 1080 from 720?

no problem
i knew there was something wrong. If in pes 2014 for ps3 we will see the same difference from pes 2013 as it happened from pes 2 to pes 3 that would be excellent

I found this at pesgaming:

Now, the friendly AI won't deteriorate anymore, and opponent AI won't cheat you anymore. THIS IS THE CURE FOR PES 2013! (and most likely any other PES using this engine). Simple, yet effective.

I do not recommend Tenacity tweak (99 or whatever) or any other global ability tweak in combination with this mod (for lack of a better word) as the AI will work like dogs with default settings. Using this mod WILL improve movement, tactics and strategy will have much more impact and you will basically not recognize the game in many ways. One can wonder what the hell Konami were thinking when they hid this gem of a game behind all that poor programming called TeamVision (and any other crap they save to the option file) that completely destroys the game.

I assume further testing will be done extensively by Matt10, and he will most likely come up with any global improvements if he find the need for it. I use none at the moment, and I am plenty happy. The in-game speed settings doesn't even seem to have adverse effects on the game any more.

Have fun.

PS. I don't know exactly how this game works, but I do know that the engine collects data of your (BAL/ML) progress, opponents and stores it in the OPTION.bin file. Then before a match, it calculates this and that based on previous matches, what kind of game you're entering, who the opponent is, your teams stature and so on. So, if you play a good team in ML, and enter the CL against any opponent and have had reasonable success in the game so far, you will get cheated like a bitch because the OPTION.bin told the AI to do so. Now if you have a new OPTION.bin, the file will tell the AI that you haven't really played that much before and therefore want to give you a difficult but pleasant experience. OPTIOIN.bin is like a drug dealer, it treats you nice in the beginning making it all seem fun but will start to cheat you badly once you're hooked. So, I say LET'S DENY IT THAT PLEASURE! (right click the fucker, and apply "read-only" on the file and you're safe!)

--that is monumentally depressing. No wonder I keep beating or drawing better teams and losing to lesser teams. No wonder cup matches are an absurd nightmare. It would appear this 'solution' is only for pc's. All I know is that if this is true, then so much has been explained. All those moments when I am not in control of my players, all those stretches of cpu momentum, that time I lost 0-7 in a cup match to a 2nd division side with a striker rated 54. Sweet murphy!
