PES 2013 Discussion Thread

what does it mean when a skill card has a star beside it versus not having a star?

What does star mean.

Eg.

Enforcer *
Fox in box *
Jumping volley
Knuckle shot

why have star and not star? What the difference

I think the * means that it's activated. For example, shifting a player to different positions will mean different cards are activated.

yeh but sometimes its stuff like long ranger, knuckle shot etc...I mean he can still have long range shooting if hes right mid, centre mid or att mid?

I dont get it?

I have reverted back to Long recently and it's my favourite. Although, I wish I could flatten it out so it wasn't so high up. Halfway between the height of Medium and Long Cam would be great. Like Dynamic cam on FIFA.

It might calculate his likelihood of shooting based on his position. e.g. as a defensive midfielder, you still have the same shooting ability but you won't be getting forward as often to shoot.

You've given some generic examples though lol. In which positions does it change which attributes? The other thing it might do is look at which side he plays on and whether he's good on both feet etc?

yeh its to on top of the pitch they need to angle it down a bit, not sure i like the changing angle as it approaches goals either?

Also would like a zoom half way between wide and long tbh.

In this day and age there should be included an option to change zooms and angles in the options menu. Users can make it for pc but not on ps3

na position is irrelveant i just put like falcao in centre back and he still has

fox in box*

etc.

Seems that some skills are * and others aint.

Perhaps its * is differnt skills than the others.

Like non star stuff is for simple basic one move/skill stuff..eg long shot, knuckle shot, sombero, double touch, lunging tackle.

Whereas * is for positional/tactical/complex stuff eg, a fox in box, poacher, enforcer, darting run etc...

will need to recheck

also another question are corners a waste of time.

I think maybe I win 1 in 50 corners and score 1 in 100.

When I play CPU or mate and am defending corner i always expect to win the corner if he crosses it.

Its rare that it results in offense winning ball or there even being a scramble in box.

OVerall crossing is a pretty ineffective form of attack in this game? right?

I think maybe taking short corners and trying something would be better?

Any tips?

Only time crossing seems worthwhile is when on break and players are unmarked in the middle.

There are 2 different types of cards, position cards and special cards.

Special cards are those skills without a *, they just improve the abilites of the player in general.

Position cards change the behavior of the player on the pitch, but they only work when he plays on a certain position. This is why they are marked with a *. You can check if a position card is active when selecting the position of a player.

Try using the Early Cross option, it's much better. Also look to come back inside to whip them in with this feature, you can create better angles. Also try pressing cross (Circle) then tap R2 for a lofted option.

On corners, try taking control of the player on your team with the best Heading/Jump stats. Press R3 to initiate this 'off-the-ball' system, then cycle through the players until you have control of him. Place him 5 yards south of the near post, press Circle to cross the ball, then make a run with him back towards the penalty spot. This run should lose your marker and give him a better option.

I use Daymos v.3 OF on Xbox 360, it has PL and Championship teams.

They are releasing v.4 early Feb which will have January Trans Window signings, updated starting 11s and formations.

Cant wait.

I have just started my ML, using Toulouse, as they're my favourite French team.

I shall let you know how it goes, any tips for me starting out, also player growth on or off? I can't decide.

Crossing takes a while to learn but then you can nail it nicely. The usual tricks - after you power up you can pull the stick back for near post, away from goal for the penalty spot or push it straight to go back post. Depending where you player is, the ball may get a slight loft to it or even a nice curl (even without using the early cross button). then you can also double or triple tap or hold R2 or even manual button for more variations!

It still is assisted though so whilst you can aim in a general direction, it still looks for a player closest to that spot. if your player is close to the keeper, this often results in the keeper catching the ball before your striker can get to it.

With crosses and corners I like to use super cancel to slightly re-adjust a striker backwards a step or two so he can lead into the ball rather than sit underneath it. Even if you don't use that, it's best to time the button press exactly as the ball is at your player. Press it too early and it results in an off target or looped header. There's not as much button lag as FIFA so you can literally wait til the ball is almost past them then press it. Practice it and you'll know what I mean.

The new Konami feedback questionaire shows how detached and directionaless they are from the real world.

it's long, dull, boring, asking useless things. Whoever came up with that should be fired.

I think it's an interesting survey. There are couple of reverse psychology aspect and certainly they like to know the average mentality of their player when playing the game. This is important before building new Artificial Intelligence.

Something bizare happened to me last night.
Im in my ML with Malaga and Im drawing 2-2 with 5 minutes to go. Its all me.
I put on Drogba for Santa Cruz. He has a shot and keeper tips it wide. From the corner Drogba rises above everyone and powers a header at goal. The keeper gets his hand to it but cant stop it flying in the net. 3-2 and Drogba has the winning goal right? wrong. Its given as an own goal? How mad is that. The keeper hardly saw it and it clipped his hand on way through - how is that an OG???

Crazy.

funny thing been happening. Usually I find that the AI gives offside when guy is just onside. But last 2 nights online had 2 goals that looked very very offside and they were allowed.

This is weird and I wonder if Konami programmed a error in judgment because one thing I notice in all previous footy games pes/fifa is that offsides are 100% correct. Which one would expect as it is a computer game so easy to programme in a 100% working offside system.

So, I wonder if this year they programmed in some tight decisions to go the wrong way as happens in real life?
