PES 2013 Discussion Thread

Lami - agree on your post re the camera angles and lighting. I am enjoying the pitchside cam but in certain stadiums, it looks quite washed out. Put it to long cam and it's better.

If you check replays, you can see how much lighting is coming from the top of stands at the stadiums. I think all that lighting shines down more from certain angles. Surely they can adjust that!

Yep that's what I noticed as well. Go closer to the pitch and you'll get better greens. Also, night games with rain look much better too.

I honestly don't know who but I remember someone somewhere mentioning disabling something in the code and voila all looks amazing. He was quite surprised why the PES team had that option/code. I think it's hany3? Really not sure.

Of all the goals I've conceded against the CPU I have to say that 95% of them were not deserved. It makes offline play very monotonous and predictable. Now that I've learned to work around the game's defensive flaws and have effectively become a throughball stopping machine the CPU scores all of its goals via corners and freekicks.

It's extremely frustrating to work facking hard for more than 25 mins to break down an opponent's defense and score, only for the CPU to score via unstoppable deflections/ghosting/corners/freekicks. I also REALLY don't like that players involved in a move (forward runs etc) basically become unresponsive for a few seconds after the move breaks down. The NBA 2K games are a good example of what AI should be.

Anyways played a few games against one of my FIFA mates and it was facking glorious. The standout game was Everton Vs Newcastle. I think my palms are still sweating. Tackles were coming in fast and fierce and shots on goal were at a minimum. It was the best game of PES I've ever played. Period. PES6 be damned.

Good news is that my mate has been converted, so i won't have to play against the shitty CPU as often :)

Miss 2 v 2 Online, sick of 1 v 1 against road runners with Messi and Ronaldo, it's nice to have someone share the annoyance

Next time I play I think I'm going to drop the dificulty level to Professional. Out of 25 matchs I just won 1 with Man United (4 x 3), 0 bar passing, 20 min on Top Player. It's not possible for me to not concede a goal after taking the lead.

Someone had mentioned "turf lighting" or similar, which they turned off. Can't remember who...

No use to those of us on unmodded Xbox's

Suuuuuupertalk so you play 30 min games, sure you not playing 15 min because it's different to FIFA were you select full game time not half like on fifa. If you are, are the scorlines realistic?

No offense but think you need to learn how to defend properly I've won quite a few games on my ml 1-0. Try changing tactics to more defensive(after you score) as well.

If it's too frustrating just move down to professional and move back up when you get to grips with it

Seriously struggling in MLO. I'd say 7 times out 10 I get matched up with a team full of much better players than mine and I end up losing 4-2,3-1 or something like that even though I play much better, but because they have far superior players they can just run rings around my defence.
I'm sticking with it though even though my record is something like W7 D4 L27. That looks bad but about 25 of those loses were against agouro, and other super teams who have obviously cheated somehow. I have upgraded 7 players and now have Defoe up front

Mate can you share your strategies for signing players in relation to there attributes and what kind of system you run , I really wish there was a ML strategy guide ....

I use multiple formations depending on each team, but my favorite and preference for ML and MLO is probably the 4-3-3 variant that Rijkaards Barca used when Ronaldinho was in his pomp with Eto'o, Deco, Giuly and co. They played better and more exciting football imo than the current Barca team. But not in an exploitative way that you see online, but utilized in an organized way.

The style is narrow support range to enhance build up and a high level of player support for more options in attack.

I used to prefer one SS cutting inside with 1 Wing forward alternating between being a high winger putting crosses in and occasionally coming inside to support the attack. But it can now vary to have 2 SS etc. The CF can either be a CF box player or another SS with plenty of fluid position switching to make them unpredictable to opponents. Likewise there'll be 1 holding DM. Good body balance is preferable for those times when you just want to be a shield thats difficult to get past. A decent level of explosive power off the mark is useful to chase and harry players off the ball, but if you prefer to play positionally with timed interceptions its not essential. Anchorman or enforcer card or both help things along as well. Passing skills don't have to be stellar for the DM but decent enough to get it and distribute it on.

With him in midfield there'll be either 2 box to box CM's with one ACM slightly ahead of the other (like Iniesta and Xavi), or one box to box CM and one dedicated AMF who isn't in a completely central position, but in that modified triangle type shape in relation to the other 2. Another combination could be 1 attacking full back and one defensive one, e.g. Abidal and Alves. Or 2 defensive if you want to keep things tight or two attacking if you want to go for it.

Watching Iniesta in the Euros I found that it is really really important to have central midfielders with good first touch (ball control) and dribble accuracy. In addition to his passing, vision, intelligent movement and link up, just the way he received the ball and dribbled out of situations to create space for himself was amazing! You can buy yourself a lot of time by just being good on the ball, whereas I used to save all my best dribblers for the wing/SS positions, in midfield its also a massive help. E.g try someone like Wilshere in a central midfield or attacking central midfield position.

The responsiveness stat is also a good for forwards. High responsiveness in players like Rocchi or Torres means that their response to passes, through balls and loose balls is electric, making them dangerous in and around the box. For defensive players, its good for their reaction times to opponents, and any loose balls that need to be cleared away.

The CF could have height, good body balance for holding the ball up and good heading/jump skills for wining the ball in the air as a plan B. Or he could just be a quick dribbler if you want to play things mostly on the ground, which will tally up with the position switching.

The 4-3-3 is the most fun for me because of its flexibility if you mix things up. In addition to the holding mid, box to box and attacking central mid who can all control the midfield and dictate play, the 2 SS/WF can cut inside/drop deep and be playmakers, can cut inside high up the pitch and be strikers to shoot or make runs, or can go wide and act as wingers to cross the ball in. That flexibility is so fun to play with.

Above are just attribute snapshots [to talk about the effects of all the stats and players cards would take up a whole guide-type-thing :)] and a quick look at the types of combinations in one formation out of many.

i think im set that the best way to play this game is full manual with L2 taped down so the arrows are always on

ive been playing strictly no arrows since this game released and although manual is very fun i find that too many shots and the simple passes go astray to easily, its to hard to have very short link up play outside the box which is vital in real football... i think having an indicator with full manual is the perfect balance between freedom and praticality in a game.

if you to record a game with arrows always on, and were to magically edit them out afterwards, i think the game would look far more life like than a manual game with no arrows at all

just wish they didnt show up in online play... like wtf ?

i thought taping L2 down means u won't be able to change formations/special tactics? i noticed this when switching between formations and def/off levels. formations won't be activated while holding L2 down. i need my offside traps and my 4 formations.

i don't use arrows and when i tried them in the demo, i didn't have time to look at them anyway in tight spaces.

I couldn't resist. Succumbed and got Maradona :D

Would love to play with him in this game see how he's like.

Welcome to QPR, Diego!

Any good option file for PS3 that has kits and bundesliga? Need the option file to have the classic players as they are.. checked some and they removed/edited them.

All PS3 OF have glitches in due to data packs. Its something to do with boots - I kid you not!
After the update on Thursday new OF will be released straight after.

damn bro do a guide :)

one thing that i have noticed in 2013 that i felt has been missing from the last few iterations or at least not something i noticed. If you slide tackle or double a tackle with a player with a high defense stat(or some other stat, need to narrow down which). You will be able to achieve one of two things

1.)winning the ball more often
2.)fouling but not getting a yellow

with avg to bad defense players, i usually concede a free kick when sliding or double tap a, or even worse a yellow card. It really is noticebale how a player like javi martinez can just wreck house in midfield with his tackling abilities.. where if i had a player like tettley from rennes with a 73 overall ability, i would get burnend or foul the player anytime i try slide tackling... this game really is the best football game ever created on any system

Trust me it's there.. Some players are 'meant' to get more cards than others.
I should/could've made a BEST of by Coentrao in my ML. He wins almost every defensive battle clean according to the CPU ref :P.. makes PLENTY of interceptions, is often key in buildup/counter setups, hasn't picked a card in about a season and a half etc..

Also in my ML experience.. Alonso is without a doubt one of the best DMF in the game, not only because of his superb positioning and read of the play but because he gets away with plenty of tackles and randomly gets booked whereas Khedira can do 1 light tackle and get instantly booked (basically get booked faster for less) etc

Something generic like this for a base setup, can be used as it is or can obviously be tweaked and moved around a bit to fit specific players as you need. For example if you play a wing forward type player like Andre Ayew or Robben, you can stretch one of the SS positions to be wider to suit crossing wing play; just like Giuly did for Rijkaard's Barca. Or make the CF another SS, or make the advanced CM an AMF etc.

This 3-5-2 one's also pretty handy, used it as an option for my MLO team in 2012, but you really need the right sort of players to make it work. E.g. useful to have at least 1 box to box cmf who is good at both attack and defence and covering ground, paired with a more creative CM, or 2 box to box if you prefer; likewise attacking full backs or wingers that have a reasonable defence stat. Or 1 attacking player on one wing, one defensive to balance it out. Juventus at the moment have the right players for this system, several of which can fill that wingback type role. But I've also used it for the likes of Italy, Portugal, AC Milan, Man City as well. You generally need a good squad of top players for this one, its a challenging one to play with but when it works, it really works.
