Best gameplay ever.

Hey mate, what kind of patch nesa is?
Where did you find it?
I was used with pes edit one

actually using yair 2.7 right now. one word, amazing. Even on top player i am not feeling cheated. I think another thing i have noticed, is holly shit HAVE THEY NAILED ROBBEN!!! So i was genoa in a ML. I was playing on pro and getting way too much possesion and way too many chances on goal. So i upped to top player and it was much better, but i couldnt score or get chances. I was like mmmm not sure if i like this game as much as i thought. I think said f it im going to start a ML with a good team. So i started one with Bayern Munich, top player yair 2.7 patch. wow amazing, getting 5 or 6 chances a game, possession is 57/43 and winning against crappy teams, tying or losing to good ones so far. So there are two options for this game

1.) start out with a avg or crappy ml team and expect to grind out results like real life, slowly building your squad

2.)get instant gratification with a good team and still have a blast

this is def without a doubt the best pes of all time with the help of jenkey yair nesa etc..

Oh dear, two games in a row and my keeper has gone slightly insane. First match, Carroll did a downward header that bounced really high, and my keeper bizarrely ran under the ball and let it bounce into an empty bet, then in the next match I had an awesome game as Spurs v Everton. I won 2-1 thanks to a Defoe double, the winner being a long range R2 curler that dipped over the keeper, but just prior to that I conceded an equaliser where my clearance smacked a defender square in the face, then the game decided Friedel would oddly not pick the ball up, and he turned and let it into his own net.

YouTube - PES 2013 Dodgy Keeper

I'm loving the game and keepers have been solid, but I'm starting to see more and more strange keeper 'freak outs'. Not just for me mind, I scored the other day where their keeper bizarrely dropped a cross he had comfortably caught, dived to grab the loose ball, and headed it into his own net :((

Did you see Casillas yesterday in CL? Jumped over the ball, yep that's right mr. 91 overall rating, response 97.

Gk's blunder all the time in real life too, there's a reason they stand in the goal.

If this is possible in the other game then i will throw PES13 away and buy that one

I don't get the complaints about the shots this year. Maybe it's a PC-thing? I was playing with my mate on PS3 last night and it was an absolute rocket-fest, upping the stats by +10 seems mad.

Folks want Ronaldo type 'shot power' with every jabroni on the pitch

Nope, I play on PC and have no issues with shooting, although i've scored a couple of floaty goals where you just think "that would never go in IRL".

Wow.

Really quite disliked the stock PES 2013 but I've just tried Matt10's settings using Jenkey's editor and global stat changes and had easily the best game so far on PES 2013.

Playing as Liverpool v Swansea, I only had two shots all game, Nathan Dyer was a constant threat down the wing and it had a fantastic pace to it all. It didn't even feel stodgy and on rails, it just felt great.

Going to try some more games now :D

PES is finally back and has that "just one more game" quality of PS2 PES.

No offence to you in particular, and while I’m glad that more people in recent times are coming back to PES, I get blindsided by idea of PES being back.

During all the time that people have declared FIFA to be the greatest football game ever and PES to be crap:

-The player individuality has still been there
-The momentum/inertia model has still been there
-The tactical/strategic depth has still been there
Personally I think that the AI and ball physics have been at a good level as well

All this time from PES 2009-2012, (I only played the demo of the next gen 2008 on pc and am undecided) its not been without its flaws, for example last year the speed could have been toned down and the AI scripting/cheating on the higher levels is crazy, but the core gameplay depth has been there if you look under all the rough edges, especially the rigid animations, which is what seems to put most people off. Its looking a bit more smoother this year with the animations and continued gameplay refinements, but to those who have stuck by it all these years its not a surprise at all, and they aren’t blind Konami loyalists either.

I played FIFA 09 for a long time, even in an all manual league, but once I’d gotten over the novelty of the visually fluidity and presentation, which to be fair were stellar if you are a football fan, the gameplay engine showed itself to be broken and lacking depth. Even the much lauded manual passing minimized the already minimized stat-influence! I bought FIFA 10, with the promise of 360 degree dribbling and less pressing in the midfield, but it didn’t change much for me. Its still like that today, no matter how many bells and whistles they add on, I think for those that want more on the pitch realism beyond visuals and presentation, the gameplay engine needs to change more than PES. Both games are a mix of arcade and sim, but I’ve always felt that PES leans more towards the realism side.

Both games have taken things from the other, but FIFA has done it more over a long period of time, it has to be said. If PES has been terrible all this time and has only just come back, how come FIFA are also including the the improved teammate AI from PES 2012+, the stat-influenced manual/zero assistance passing from PES 2012+, the containment defensive model from PES 2011+, the refined first touch system from PES 2010+, the contextual dribbling system from PES 2009+. These things are quite big for footie games, gamechangers even; and have been finding their way into FIFA. This would suggest that on pure gameplay terms the PES team knows what they’re doing, in spite of all the criticism the game has had over the years.

PES’s depth has always been there. I've considered playing Football Manager because the tactical depth in this game and the results on the pitch rival it and make you FEEL like a player-manager! I’ve got lists and lists of teams and formations and tactics and notes on individual players, their chosen positions that suit my playstyle, combinations of players (e.g. a winger good at defense and tracking back with an interchanging attacking FB), positions in relation to other players, modified formations that suit particular teams, choices based on individual stats, star/player card abilities, alternate strategies etc. that I’ve been refining since PES 4 xbox live play - 08 on PS2.

I STILL DID THE SAME thing from PES 2009-2012 till now. The deep things still functioned and worked no matter how many people told me how crap it was, I could still lose myself in the game that replicated the intricacies of football, in a way that I couldn’t do so in FIFA. Yes, they still had their problems and weren't perfect, but you could get a lot of enjoyment out of them. FIFA isn’t terrible either, but I feel it’s a different type of game than PES, I don’t play it for the same reasons.

So for me PES is not finally back, its still here!

FIFA International Soccer 94 and FIFA 95 on the Mega Drive and FIFA Road to World Cup 98 on PS1 with the 5-a- side-indoor matches were brilliant though, as were ISS Pro, 98 and Evolution on PS1 from what I played. As was World Cup Italia 90 on Mega Drive, a UEFA CL game on PS1, some European club soccer game on the Mega Drive that looked like the Subuteo stick figures with circles under their legs etc. but I digress :)

Great post shorty.

Agree fully the core of PES is what keeping it above average and has carried through with the series. Its for the same reasons that I can't get to grips with fifa once you peel away all the beautiful layers you get to the rather rotten core that still stinks oof FIFA on the last gen.

Have to give it credit though some of the animations and things like air tussles for headers or keeper animations look splendid but I need much much more than that.

Very good writing! Enjoyed it! Gotta spread your word in a German community, if you don't mind!

I'm so waiting for mid oktober. Need to dl the dlc from Konami and finally install the wenb of plus chuckbass' chant packs!!

Love this game, again...

Directional input seems fine, which after all was THE main issue last year.

In terms of power, I don't see anything that's massively differentiates it from other PES games. To tell you the truth, the shots of the top players (Pato, Ronaldo...) seem overpowered if anything.

Do think the trajectory of curled/R2 shots is a bit off though, almost FIFAish.

I think PES 2013 picks up where PES 5/6 left off. While they gradually got better which each edition I think PES 2008 through 2012 were relatively poor and didn't capture the PES feeling and addictive quality of the games from the PS2 days, even though I desperately wanted them too. PES 2013 does, in my opinion.

Absolutely bang on the money. That's exactly why people like you and me still buy this game. We want depth, where it matters, on the pitch.
While the majority of heads are being turned to the notion that FIFA is the better game, pes offers a deeper, more realistic version of football, that has continued to satisfy it's unique/niche audience.
Kind of sums up the state of mind and the society we live in.
Do I choose to go along with the masses, and buy what is ultimately a bland game, in terms of what happens on the field. Or do I buy a game that gives me a true and near authentic game of football?
No contest, in my mind. Let the sheep see the fifa. Baaa.

That's right. The "one more match before bed" feeling is back!

I don't understand where all the complaints about shooting have come from, I love it.

Fat Frank, 30 yards, lovely. Sometimes you just gotta put your head down and put your foot through the ball....

Is it still possible (as in 2012) to train a player for a new position by simply playing him in that new position while he grumbles, or is the only option to visit the 'shop' and buy him a new position for the year (I guess he has to return it?)?

I completed an amazing move, though it didn't result in a goal, that makes me want to keep playing this game. Due to injury I had to put my slightly above average LB on the right side. He tackled a cpu winger and picked up the ball, I would say, in the first third of my defensive zone. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed my left winger alone in space and launched a low, hard long ball diagonally to him, with some curve I might add, where he chested it down in total surprise. The last time I saw a play like that was watching Assou-Ekoto (sp?) for Spurs do it in real life, and the television commentators said something like "that man is playing on a canvas twice the size of the pitch".

Gamespeed 0, but as someone mentioned here somewhere, I'm sure the ball type plays an influence. Using the default PES 2013 ball on 0 is perfect. But using other balls the game speed seems to play faster. Placebo or not? I'm not sure. I toyed with -1, but in the end I want that blend of slow periods and pulsating riveting periods where the ball is deflecting everywhere in midfield. -1 seems to be just one paced throughout which is a little too unrealistic the other way.

On another note -

PES 2013 will be my exclusive game this year. It has everything I want from a football game, more so than even the dizzy heights of 5/6. It's a fabulous game. It's almost perfect in terms of what I deem to be football, with regards to so many areas that it's just not worth writing an essay about. For the first time in ages I'm not even tempted by FIFA; not even 1%.

I loved 2011. I grew to love 2012. But I always bought the two different titles, just in case. This year I'm saving myself £45.

The best possible praise I can give PES this year is this -

It's a very easy game for me, something that is on the shelf and ready to play at the drop of the hat. When I say easy, I don't mean easy in terms of difficulty, far from it. I just mean I can access it all the time, play my way of playing, enjoy the experience, and get so much out of it nearly all the time. I'm not fighting it and I rarely feel cheated. There is just so much good in the game in terms of changing the point of attack from a pass, to a body movement, to the deft lay-offs using manual.

PES 2011 and 2012 I loved in different ways. But there were undoubted underlying problems. All of PES 2013's problems this year are solely off the pitch, where I care little about anyway. There are touches here and there that could spruce up the on-field action, but I don't think I could complain ever if the game engine was never bettered. I mean how far can a developer go in terms of re-creating realism whilst also getting the cheat script balance so good.

This year I can feel every decision I make. I can feel the impact a player has on the team with different arrows and with different abilities. For the first time in ages it pays to get a pass master on the ball in the middle of the park. Even last year I was splaying 30 yarders by any of my midfielders. This year I cannot. Last year Andy Carroll scored 30 goals a season with his head and had the best strike in Europe; this year I've hardly played him, favouring Suarez and the nimble footwork of Borini.

The CPU effectiveness v human player defender is absolutely spot on. A good defender who maybe slow can still read the game and be effective against good players and win their tackles. But a CPU player who has the attacking flair and dribbling arsenal up his sleeve are lethal. Teams like Spurs I fear now and have to change my entire tactics accordingly, getting involved with a team like that on an attack v attack level will result in their pace shining though.

Zero assists, 20 minute games, gamespeed 0. The game unfolds like a fkin spectacle.

Jimmy? Is that you?

20 minute games? Some people have a lot of time on their hands. I haven't played console since Tuesday!
Hoping to get some time in today when Missus takes my girl dancing for 3 hours.

Just tried the default edit.bin from PESEdit and, as I thought, the stock PES 2013 is just crap basically. It really is like basketball where teams only have "ATTACK!" in their mind regardless of the situation, the defenders are always pulled out of position and it's a through-ball haven. What a mess.

Definitely going back to Matt10's settings, it's a shambles of a game without these adjustments.

45 quid? Dude, where are you buying your games? You've got to start shopping with the likes of Shopto! :P
