Haha, I can see how the mix up occured - what I meant was that I shall try and master the game with '0' assistance, having come back from FIFA and in a few months I may go down the route of taping L2 down permanently.

I know exactly what you mean - between a rock and a hard place as neither option fits what we want/need.

I have been doing a fair bit of this since I first played the demo and was even going to write a big post on it asking who was using the games tools in ways they were not intended.

Was also going to ask why no one else in the thread was talking about using these tools we have at our disposal in ways they are not exactly designed for.

There is a LOT of ways and tools to use in playing this game.

For all it's faults - it is a very DEEP game - gameplay wise at least.
 
I use Paul2478 option file for ps3 and am very happy with it. He responds to all questions, on his blog, works with Konami data pack 1 installed, will have everything including npower league and Germany league shortly. If you choose to subscribe you get weekly updates, but if not you can get the OF free once a month.

I havn't tried any other because I am happy with this one and have now subscribed for $5 Australian which is about £3.35 I think for 12 months

That sounds awesome. I would love a Brasilian Division 2 as well at some point. That would be just perfect.

I am using the same one (mainly because it is stable) but would have to say that in the brief time I had WENB v.2 OF installed . . . It had superior kits from what I saw.

Arsenal for exmaple on Pauls have a very bright Red kit whereas on WENB v.2 it was a more sedate deep red in keeping with the shade it is in real life. The Arsenal away kit is also more realistic purple on WENB.

Another one I noticed was Chelsea home on WENB it has the diagonal stripes on the chest material as the real kit does but on Pauls it is just flat and plain with less detail.

Don't get me wrong I am not ungrateful in ANY way to these OF makers just pointing out there are subtle differences in quality to be found for the keen eyed.

To be fair Paul2478 is one guy and WENB are a big team I would imagine.

yeah, but he will take off one league to include a new, always like that...

This argentinian OF for example will replace the Bundesliga...(others stay the same like picture)

so you will have to choice.. delete the old one or just have another user for the option file with the argentinian league.


i'll use both, with different users(cause i want to play UCL with the kits, emblems...)

Just went to simulate tonight's UCL match with Ajax & Madrid only to discover that they've only gone and bloody removed the Amsterdam Arena. Great, first El Monumental, now this. FFS.
 
I have to say online is pretty much a joke in this game...especially MLO. Not only do you get paired with super star teams with eto'o, nasri, aguero etc all the time, but it seems like they dumb down defensive AI on top of all this.

The most frustrating thing is how players who are in good position to intercept a pass move out of the way to let it through...and then everyone starts turning away from the player allowing him to run at you with speed merchants.

I find this less of an issue when you play quick match..even with mediocre teams for some reason. I find MLO games play differently then regular matches. Anyone else notice this?
 
Online AI needs to be in Top Player/Superstar, instead Regular, which has been the default difficult level for years. Every year is one of the most demanded fixes, but Konami never gave a ****.
 
Other than pulling the cable out of the wall, anyone know a way to stop PES 2013 from trying to connect to Konami's online community shite thing when I boot the game up?

It's a simulated bias towards the better players, or 'scripting'', as people like to refer to it as. It's a means to an, artistic license. Regular difficulty level doesn't help either.
 
I've got the 360 version 1.5 option file now and it's fantastic. Well done to Daymos and all the guys taking their time to work on the file! Premier League and Portuguese Primeira Liga kits now look fantastic. Seriously tempted to do a ML with a Premier League club now.

One a different note, I saw someone mention earlier that they thought the type of ball affected the flight speed. I'm beginning to think there's something in that. I was using one type of ball and found the game was markedly faster, switched back to the one I was using before, same teams, and it feels slower. I don't know if it's a stat thing or just a visual placebo, but to me it makes a difference. I find the best ball to use is the default PES ball with the yellow and blue bits, which I actually really like, or the Predator Capitano/White ball. Both feel somehow like they're visually larger and have more weight. Strange, but that's what I think.

I've also noticed that some of the Spanish stadiums have some lovely pitch textures compared to the default ones, especially in night games. The best one I've come across is playing at night in the Jose Zorrilla stadium. The pitch colour is darker, textures more detailed, and the whole night lighting looks vastly superior to most of the other stadiums. That's also bizarre.

Playing a friendly, I had a brilliant experience. Top player, zero assists, 15 minutes, as Chelsea v Norwich in the Jose Zorrilla stadium with the Predator Capitano White ball. Lost 2-1, which is pretty crap I'll admit, but the game looked absolutely lovely and the gameplay was the best ever.

One other thing I do that might help anyone else enjoy the visuals a little better is to go to screen settings in the pause menu, and change the blue tone to +3 or +4. It takes a lot of the yellow tint out of the game, which IMO makes things look crisper and more realistic, especially in night games. I also increase the game's brightness to +2.

Lots of probable placebo effects going on there, but worth checking out if anyone's interested.
 
About the difficulty levels:

What I like about Professional level is time on the ball and therefore the ability to explore the full range of options in the game, using the triggers etc. What I don't like is the cpu buildup, which is route one, long ball, inept switching of sides, and frequent panic kicks out of play.

What I like about Top Player is the cpu buildup, which has been exhilirating at times. I like the clinical finishing, the switching sides, the wing play. I love the fact that, on average my wins/draws equals my losses. It's hard but beautiful. I've got no complaints about losing.

But I would like to see two slight changes: first, responsiveness should be equalized, relative to stats of course. On Top Player, even mediocre cpu players have a better first response to a loose ball than my best players. I know that everyone has experience having four players surrounding a loose ball only to see the single cpu player beat them all to it. All other stats aside, I would like to see that tweaked for Top Player. I think this fix for this one stat would eliminate much of the complaints about "scripting". I don't care if I lose 1-6 (and I have) but if just one of those goals comes from my four defenders and my gk standing around for a split-second longer than the single cpu 58 rated striker, it's going to feel like scripting, or cheating, which is killing love for this game for some players.

Second, I don't object at all to the cpu winning slightly more headers. Heck, on Top Player, the cpu is just feckin better than me! But I do object to 50/50 headers, which no player "wins" decisively, bouncing into open space for a quickly-responding cpu player to possess. This probably also goes back to responsiveness. It feels wrong and should be tweaked to save all of our joyful souls. I don't care if the cpu can time their tackles better, or pass better, or shoot better, but letting them respond better is denying many PES players a measure of joy and fun that they want from their football.

Having said all that, I also would say that this is the best football game I've ever played. I play Top Player, unassisted, 0 speed, 4-5-1, and in my first full year of ML, in division 2, I came in 14th out of 18, lost money to open the season, haven't upgraded a single staff member, and had to sell my best striker to break even. My only new players are from the youth team. Sweet murphy...

I agree about the responsiveness issue it can be really fustrating it's just so obvious they have the advantage it's a joke. Other than that loving the game.

Seems that I'm in the same situation as you with ml dv2 in 2nd season and still lingering near the bottom, but I'm determined to get in the English league even if it kills me (or my controller)

Yes, I certainly am, but I think it's worth it. I don't know, I've changed my expectations a bit with football games. 2012 was such a terrible game with everyone running around like children, that I am so far just thrilled to get good, strong gameplay. I'd be lying if I didn't hope for a few more victories. I'd love to get promoted. But right now I'm just happy to play a great game of football. This morning I played an away game in my ML and scored two early goals in spectacular and technical fashion. I made it to half time and then set out determined to absorb pressure and kill the game. No chance. The cpu scored early and then, in the final 15 minutes just punished me with long balls to their (now) three strikers. I made just one slight mistake on defense all game (I tried to pass out instead clearing--I wanted to keep possession and kill the game) and they tied it up. I was devastated at the time...I had tried so hard! But now I realize that I had just played one of the best matches I could ever recall.
 
Hmm, just had my first really bad experience with this game, lost 3-0 to Liverpool as Man City. Liverpool were pretty disgustingly set up, a ridiculously deep formation with a bank of five across the midfield halfway inside their own half, with Carroll up on his own (until the transfer update next week, anyways). All they did was sit in their own area like in PES2012, three or four people pressing the ball carrier and could do this without being bypassed because they were so deep, tight together, and mobile by the fact that they never stopped sprinting for the whole match. Even if I switched the play and played in a full back in 30 yards of space he'd have three players blocking all passing routes and breathing down his neck by the time he'd taken 2 seconds to fully bring it under control.

All they then did was score two goals from crosses and Carroll headers, then smack one in from a corner. I had near on 70% of the play, got screwed on the counter, old school-style. But man, that defence was insane. Sprinting around the pitch like rabid dogs the entire ninety minutes. And so aggressive, every single challenge was a sliding tackle, they committed over TEN fouls in one match with only one yellow card. I did just two fouls using the A button as a standing tackle and got two yellow cards.

Go figure.

There's two different settings screens. One is the match screen settings and it has a long list of options. Leave the cursor turned ON in there.

Then go into your Assistance Settings and you can toggle between player name/number etc. I think that's what you're looking for :)
 
Thoroughly enjoying PES 2013 (played WE from WE5 to WE9 on PS2), and FIFA 10 to 12 on PS3.

Finally, the series is back on track. Found that I am getting old and can only handle the "Regular" difficulty, which seems to provide more freedom to play good football and is a bit more merciful. Just don't have enough time to hone my skills any more. Unpredictability and the Player ID is amazing. Really enjoyable to feel the immediate difference.

Tried FIFA 13 and it's a bit soulless although the presentation and gfx are amazing. It plays an ok game but i dont get the same thrill when scoring. I also find the players glide alot... too much polish and not enough grit.

On PES13, they really need to revamp the physics engine for the players. There are so many incidents of clipping!!! Also, some of the running animations still look rubbish!
 
hi does anyone know the official name of Estadio Del Nuevo Triunfo?, on pes12 wiki it says Cornellà-El Prat but i think that is bullshit as every la liga team has a licensed stadium now..?

Yeah.. animation related gameplay mechanic such as some sudden crossing.. sometimes in a tight angle, cpu suddenly turns 180 degree to launch a cross with little foot swinging (sometimes only with toe poke :FAIL:). Guess, the ball will land in a dangerous position inside my box. Note that we can do it too, lol. :TTTH:

Menu presentation, sigh, is it only made by pure programmer without artistic sense :OOOH:

so does this community mode mean we can do more than 1v1 online like? can we do 2v2 or 4v4 like ive heard in other places?
