PES 2013 Discussion Thread

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

I noticed the players pass the ball around a little also but they still get forward too quick. Hopefully they can tone that down for matches of 10 - 15 min length. RVP was only just finalised and they probably submitted the demo to get approved before that was done so I let them off with that one lol.

Visuals won't get much better on console with this engine but I do hope they fix the night time lighting. It's going to make the Champion's League a real anti climax for me.

Yeah - that micro pass wasn't something I spotted either. Tried a few first time passes with 0 bar passing and it's rather lovely now trying to knock the ball around.

3 key things I want fixed:

1) Night time lighting (removing some of it!)
2) Still too many shot fakes to round the keeper.
3) More patient build up from the AI during 10-15 min games

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Meh. Better than 2012, but this looks seriously dated. Watch a video of the sheer polish of Madden 13 versus this game, and you'd honestly think they're from different generations of consoles.

:CONFUSE:

but back on point, gameplay for madden is old gen, actually worse than old gen and impact engine thing is awful, i'd have to disagree with the chip through ball thing, i've still to this point concede in that fashion.

i really can't see why people are getting so up it and fully trying to be picky with the game, your never going to enjoy any game if you go in looking for the bad points. It is the best football game i've played to date and i don't understand some of the hate (beside the 5 min a half )

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Did anyone try the pitch side cam? Someone said it's been adjusted and looks great. Not sure if they meant from last year or from Demo 1. I didn't try it out yet.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Madden is a bit shite really. Player likenesses are awful (look more like zombies than FIFA) and some of the animations are not very good. They never could get the running animation right.

Yeah, Madden is slick in presentation terms, but the game itself is nothing special. Not a different league to PES.

#1. I am thinking that it is a game that whenever cpu saw his team mate at open space or with defender guarding him not so close, especially in front then it will just pass. The impact is of coure forward play. Especially pro-active ai is put into equation.

#2. The issue is the game itself provides a one-on-one as selling features (both defending and attacking). Hence, we often saw an cpu ai attacker alone trying to get past our defender, while his team mate in the back is more free.

Number 1, is of course acceptable logic.. because let's say a real-life 2nd division team plays againts barca, but when they found many occassion their midf, attacker free in front, they'll pass to them. (This is just an example if barca's defender is dumb enough to be out of position :P )

Number 2, is the real issue i would like konami to address.. hence an attacker is aware that he is ACTUALLY not alone for 90mins :JAY: I know they want to keep it challenging, but would like them make it happen less often for cpu ai to force to get past in one-on-one situation.

I am still waiting for PC demo.. Matsuda where's ours, pc players

I can't believe no one has mentioned the performance training yet..
it's freaking amazing! i have a lot to learn from this PES :)

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

For all those that have played demo 2 does the game still feel like its on rails in certain areas and is the ball now a seperate entity or is it still on a string

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Yup the rails are still there. I think you feel it more with players that have low response attributes.

Player selecting seems even worse than demo 1.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

I felt it was too limited just like the full one in 2012. It needs more senarious and probably need to be made out into its own separate entity that cna be used to train players in football life (just like pes 5 player training).
The guy that put the demo mod is evil cos he did not teach how to use it

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

honestly.
demo 1, is the way.
demo 2, has reminded me PES 2012.
no differences between players, everyone seems to have the same level in ball control.
game faster. bad

demo 1
slower and ball game on the lawn. good

because konami? why??

YouTube - Mourinho - ¿Por qué?

i get you, totally.
even if i liked Demo 2, Demo 1 was better IMO regarding the difference between players.. or probably is because controlling Ronaldinho was outstanding comparing him to his team mates, meanwhile controlling Barcelona feels like every player has superb stats (because they actually do)..

i don't know.. i feel the game miles ahead of PES 2012 (which i hated), i actually want to learn to master this one

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

I think trying to simplify the game, suitable for all age groups, more "casual"
not way, sorry konami

sttuter, lag... why????

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

This game might be bareable. I have only player BAL since 2009 no master league could not stand Pes 2011 and 2012. Might change that this year. I just hope Football Life ai is good.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

The training is annoying. Im doing everything it tells me to do and it comes up BAD. I mean, who cant hit a long pass ffs!

I slightly prefer demo 1 gameplay but all in all its a good game, the best yet since PE6

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Once you hit the long pass, you must run towards goal with that player. Then he will go into hands up in the air, victory pose :P

Training aint easy though, I'll give you that! I couldn't do the nutmeg shot so I just quit out. I'd rather side foot to the keeper's side instead of trying the nutmeg lol.

Saw this really nice passage of play from the AI last night where the midfielder just gave the ball a little lift with his first touch to avoid my player. Then a nice little flick to the wide player who whipped in a cross for a near post header. Looked darn good.

Played 3 games on Professional and then a couple on Superstar, where I really noticed they apply more pressure in your defensive half. Didn't translate to more AI possession though, which surprised me when I checked the stats.

There were hints of them knocking the ball around and I really hope they do it a lot more because it looked great. I'll play around tonight with setting a deeper defensive line. I wonder how much a higher line plays a part in inviting the AI to knock in through balls.

Yeah I had to switch to assisted 2bar passing to clear this one! All others were done manual!
I'd like to know what to do with manual passing to get it right though...

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Okay, here's my final review after several more games this morning.

Last night I crucified the game, this morning I can appreciate things a lot more. Firstly, I re-hooked the game up to my 50" Plasma, and the game does feel different somehow.

For me, demo 2 is still too fast on 0, so I played a good few games on -1. The first thing that struck me was the graphics, I actually think they're pretty damn good. Even the night game, the grass seemed lusher and darker. The players weren't as skatey as when I played the game on my 27" LCD, and the game felt alive.

Passing feels good. On zero assists for everything you can knock balls past their intended targets and overhit balls. Shooting feels good. Atmosphere seems good.

BUT - here comes the same problems, and I just cannot accept them.

1) Human v CPU rules governing how you play

Totally on a different planet to each other. The game plays rather nicely when I have possession and am building up or looking to create. I feel that I still have to get the ball under control and take that extra touch and that I have to be careful with my passing and choices.

The CPU has other forces governing them. Every player (almost) looks to go forward with their first touches. Every player looks to sprint forward with their first touches even. So I am still grabbing the CPU by its coat tails to slow the game down. The AI is bad IMO. Player ID? You must be kidding guys. There are differences between a few players for sure, but what about the most fundamental differences between players in terms of keeping possession? In the space of 1 minute of earth time, Messi lost possession three times and Xavi once, all to silly direct dribbles, bumping into crowds of players. Which brings me onto point 2 -

2) It's the year 2013, and still KONAMI cannot get a grip on CPU player awareness. By that I mean the CPU is never aware of me cutting down space and hardly ever aware that it needs to pass sideways or backwards. Most Barce moves consist of 3/4 passes before possession is lost. Indeed, almost any side in the world is capable of playing the ball round the back for some breathing space to create midfield space, and making 10 passes. It seems every team in this game cannot.

There are some sim elements in there this time around. But a simulation of football it is not. It is just too frantic, too end to end, possession loss by the CPU is a joke, their directness is a joke, and possession stats between the human and the CPU is a joke. As Juve I just had 82% possession against Barcelona. I think it's the highest I've ever had. How many times did I have to go hunting for possession like every time has to against Barcelona.....none? Within 1 second I'd get the ball back.

3) Scripting and dodgy keepers. My last point. I still feel scripting is there in some blatant moments, particularly my favourite now is the human keeper parry into the six yard box for the CPU tap in to rather innocuous shots. This is after they deal efficiently with laser guided shots. I swear some CPU guy hit one shot clocked at 350mph?!?

Conclusion -

SO MANY things improved. But like classic KONAMI, a few things ruined. I cannot play a football sim where I am getting upwards of 70% possession every game. I cannot play or take seriously a football sim in 2013, where the CPU doesn't play anything like real football. Players don't run forward all the time, for the full 90 minutes. Players have appreciation of space, losing possession is huge in real football and so players protect the ball by passing it around.

I guess in conclusion the game is just built to be a go forward arcade blast. In that respect, I guess it will succeed. Certainly many things have been improved over 2012. But I am at the end of my tether, I really feel that KONAMI is one of mine, but it may be time to skip a title and wait for the new engine. It has to be time for a mature football simulation to be made, and right now it just isn't happening.

Absolutely spot on mate. They seem to have the tools to make a real simulation but they choose not to finally. So next year maybe who knows. They are not gonna take my money this year for sure

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

You do realise they're running on a restricted engine. So when you say they have the tools but chose not to do it, you have to put it into context since we don't really know.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

What happened to the demo having ten minute matches?

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Had 1 match on the PS3 this morning.
Top player
0 assist pass
Me barca vs Real madrid.

Great game really enjoyed it.

Passing:
Annoyed with 1 pass that went where I didn't want else its a great improvement over demo 1. This will be my default setting for this game.

Shooting is slower now which is what I prefer to be honest I was concerned by the pace in demo 1 which was a little too fast IMo

Dribbling:
2mins into my game pedro steps past arbeloa and races away not building a mighty gap but enough to either pass or shoot. Its ridiculous that I can do this in seconds yet people are saying dribbling is broken. Seriously? If it were any easier I would worry.

AI: hard to tell. They cut me to pieces with the first goal. Di maria, Benzema and finally CR7 played a neat 3 pass move to get behind Puyol and mascherano to get CR7 one on one in a small space and his side footer hit the post and into the net. Bravo goal indeed made me jealous.

2nd goal was Cr7 getting in behind Alves and cutting back to benmzema who peeled away from mascherano

My 1 shot came off the woodwork when Messi and iniesta outpassed madrids back 4 and my 1 goal came when again Iniesta driBbled around for an opening and laid off for incoming LB Jordi Alba who hit it 1st time. The ball hit arbeloa and seemed to be heading toward Casillas outstretched palm but the nasty deflection took it beyond Casillas.

Loved it haven't played enough but very very nice.

Konami suck donkey balls for giving us only 10 minute matches.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

There is no way whatsoever I would describe this game - in this demo - as an arcade blast.

As for possession dominance, the majority of my games have been about 54/46 with the COM even having the majority share in a few games as well on Top Player. I think it is worth noting the quality of the the majority of the teams available as well. When I play using the Copa Lib sides the experience has been very different from that when using a Barca, Bayern etc., where most players have high technical ability and accuracy. I do think there is a little more zip to gameplay but that it is a result of overall polish/fluidity as opposed to them dumbing down.

It's a 5min demo, and not matter how much one plays it, they will only be able to get so much from it, as just like any demo for any game they are focused builds. Not to say the final game will be hugely different but I believe it will be subject to some further tweaking and tuning in accordance to factors such as match length and competitive play.. I think even after PC mods get their hands on the demo they will still be tweaking a base code which is focused on delivering a 5min demo experience.

Personally, and it is only my opinion, I think the talk of dumbing down and individuality being removed/toned down is wide of the mark. I am thoroughly enjoying what the demo has to offer overall and now look forwards to the final release.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Sorry to say guys, but I'm outta here.

Liked demo 1 apart from the skewed possession stats and the silly CPU build up. That's all they had to work on besides toning the accuracy of the shooting down a bit.

Now it's like a drugged up PES 2012, but just worse. Thoroughly dislike it, it's more arcade madness than ever before. The core gameplay is just fked IMO.

Anyway, hope you enjoy peeps.
Hate to say it lad but I agree. Its gone backwards since Demo 1....

Ill Pass on PES 2013 this year and hope ea's offerin is better.
