PES 2012 Football Life thread

After missing out on promotion, Middlesbrough brought in five new players to bolster their ever improving squad for the forthcoming campaign. Richie Wellens was bought from Leicester City as cover in the center of the park, and Micheal Chopra departed Ipswich to add extra fire-power to Boro's frontline. Boro also signed two pacey French defenders in Souprayen and Bouhours, primarily to strengthen the back-line and add another attacking option down the left flank.

The real jewel-in-crown for Middlesbrough was the signing of Portuguese playmaker, Carlos Martins. Martins ticked all the boxes on paper. Excellent feet, good vision, quick over the first few yards and dynamite in his boots. Martins was given the Number 8 shirt- a favourite with the Boro manager in honour of his own personal idol,Paul Gascoigne.

Huge mistake.

Once people get a firm understanding of how this Training Regime works, you will be able to appreciate just how clever and complex this system actually is. I've already mentioned in detail about moulding your team to your philosphy, which incidently, is exactly how any new Manager taking over a new team in real-life aspires to achieve.

Less than halfway through my first season with the emphasis on Technique with a large helping of Physical thrown in and the improvement in player stats is quite remarkable.

Ruskin is the only one who hasn’t moved but I have a young Italian left back coming in at the January window. He will be the only non default/youth team player in the team.
 
aren't you supposed to play the real thing jimmY? why would you shoot from half the pitch?

maybe you like arcadish games, that's why you enjoy pes so much!
 
He has the Long Ranger Player Card, it's called player individuality. Utilise the strengths of your players, that's called simulating what you covert. And afterall, you dont buy a Porshe and keep it in 3rd gear now do you. ;)

This might is becoming my favourite pitch and when I start a master league, I will set it as the default stadium for whichever team I select.

It plays well at day and night and looks good too. There are other pitches such as the Allianz, madrid's and ajax that look amazing through the day, but don't look as good or play as well at night.
 
Had a very enjoyable session on my PES ML last night.
3 wins, a single defeat and 2 draws have pushed me up to 4th in the Table, 1pt off the promotion places.

Managed to sign a 16yr old regen Clarence Seedorf in the Jan transfer window, only 2 games in and you can tell he's gonna be one hell of a player.
Also managed to renegotitate contracts with 8 players on longer deals, except 2 who i was going to sell anyway.
Promoted Lovenkrands, Senedemir, and Ahmed Akin from the youths who have all cemented starting berths, and a return from a 24 week injury for Tafdelam, a talented RW has boosted my chances of promotion this season.

Its a gorgeous looking stadium Chimps. and very reminiscent of the Emirates. id have chose this as my home ground too but prefer to design my own custom stadium which actually plays very well in both day/night scenarios.
 
With 8 games played so far, Boro are currently lying 6th in Championship and the training regime and philosophy I've adopted is beginning to reap rewards. The focus on the technical and physical side of the game is perfectly suited to the division I'm in, and working just as I'd hoped.

After taking a point from the opening game at Reading, Boro then traveled to Hull City and emerged with a well deserved point from a 0-0 draw. It was a tight affair with both teams unable to break the deadlock. Carlos Martins was superb once again, but Emnes and Tamudo couldnt deliver the final product that Martins creative work deserved.

Boro then hosted Birmingham City at the Riverside, the decision to play Steele between the sticks on a Purple proved to be a costly one as Boro went down 3-1 and suffered their first loss of the current campaign. The scoreline was very harsh, and didnt really tell the full story. Birmingham went ahead early after a cracking drive from just outside the area smashed off the far post with Steele rooted to the spot. Emnes then equalised after a Carlos Martins dinked ball over the top beat the offside trap, and Emnes cooly slotted it into the far bottom corner. 1-1. Birmingham then scored two goals in 10 minutes to take all the points. Boro were left wondering just what went wrong. Steele knew the answer.

Boro looked to bounce back in their next game away to Brighton, and they did. And how. Carlos Martins once again proved to be the difference in class with everything he did. He is positioned in a high CMF role, but his Free Roaming Player Card means that he just turns up everywhere. His reading of the game is second-to-none, and if he's not providing the clever passes, or testing his opponents keeper from range, he's moppping up at the back. Priceless.

Boro took the lead after the Brighton keeper tried to be a little too clever at the back. His stray pass was read by Emnes who clipped an R2 shot into the empty net.1-0. Tamudo then made it 2-0 with a superbly placed finish into the bottom corner. The way he switched his feet, opened up his body and shifted balance was technically brilliant. The shot was placed so well that it gave the keeper no chance as it smashed in off the far post.

Boro then capped off their best performance of the season when Carlos Martins added another to his highlight reel scrapbook with a thunderous 30 yard plus freekick. With Petrov absent, Reece Williams stepped up to take the kick. Williams though, although competent from closer range, doesnt have have the FK stance or the relevant strike to ask any real questions from that range. Martins on the other hand, does. A 'Push Forward' on the stick style strike looked perfect from that sort of range, and combined with Martins aggressive FK stance, it made sense to give him a crack. Martins stepped up, got the power, direction,bend and dip(X) just perfect, and he smashed it into the top corner.3-0. Is there anything this guy cant do ? :CONFUSE:

With confidence sky-high, Boro hosted unbeaten league leaders Wigan at the Riverside. Things didnt start too well after a clumsy challenge from club captain Matty Bates, sent him for an early bath. After that it was an uphill battle. Wigan took the lead after some nice football split Boro's defence and a cool finish put them 1 up. They doubled their lead not long after from a headed corner. They then took off a striker and put 5 at the back looking to hold out. On came Riberio for his first start of the season. A Petrov corner picked out the big man and his powerful header gave the home fans hope, but it wasnt to be, as Boro suffered their second defeat of the season.

Boro once again looked to bounce back as they hosted Leicester City as home. Carlos Martins once again turned provider, his clinical pass once again beat the offside trap, and Emnes raced clear placed his shot into the left side corner.1-0. Boro dominated the game and took all 3 points.

With poor Form playing a big role in Boro's squad rotation, they entered their F.A Cup First Round match away to Leeds with a serious problems at the back. Steele was out, as was the two French kids who have performed fantastically so far this season. Boro took a well deserved lead after Petrov found Tamudo with a great pass, and his first time effort smashed in off the angle. 1-0 Boro. It stayed this way until the final 5 minutes when a perfect long pass got in behind the Boro back-line. A inch perfect cross was then volleyed home from close range. 1-1.

The 90 minutes ended all level. Riberio was then brought into the fray, in the hope his size and power could offer up another option. A ball over the top from that man Carlos Martin found Riberio, his strength held off two Leeds defenders and a cheeky dink over the onrushing keeper made it 2-1 Boro. Boro then switched to a 5-4-1 formation and held out for a great win and a trip into the hat for the next round.

Boro then made it 3 wins in a row after they came from behind to beat Watford away. Watford took the lead against the run of play after Beattie was in the right place at the right time after a parried drive. This game was all about Carlos Martins though. He really had his shooting boots on for this one and really could have had a stunning hatrick. Thankfully for me, I absolutely love the shooting in this PES, and I very, very rarely ever under direct a shot, if anything, I over cook the direction. Adhering to all the fundamentals ensures my shooting is spot on, as all the videos will testify.

It was Petrov who claimed his first goal of the season, after he stepped up from close range to bend in a FK off the post. This was a 'Pull Down' type FK strike, and his stance is suited to both very close range, or from distance. But not really anything in between. His perfect FK leveled the argument and justice was served. Carlos Martins then made it 2-1 after his clever run was picked out by Petrov's left boot and a corner kick. 2-1 Boro. Martins was on a different level and terrorised Watford a with some brilliant dribbling skills, cute passes, and long range strikes that all seeemed bound for the corners of the goal. But he was denied time and time again by the quite brilliant Watford keeper.

I've never played a PES so compelling, so addictive and so ruthlessly realistic in all my life. Zero Assistance, Professional level and 15 minute games are pure, pure heaven. Love it.

Jimmy, Loving my ML too despite all the flaws with the game, i say flaws subjectively as they will differ person to person, but, in your game setup of 15min games, professional and zero assistance, do you Not constantly see CPU teams parking the bus when you attack, 10 mplayers behind the ball then just hit you with the counter attack, playing directly time and time again, same for every CPU team?
If not then are you using an Option File with any stats/tactic tweaks?
 
It feels very balanced to me. This whole parking this bus thing is nothing that I take any real notice of bud. I find these accusations pretty much redundant. It's far from easy to break teams down in real-life, so this doesnt feel any different to me. If you mess around probing around, you have to expect teams getting players behind the ball, in real-life your manager would go through you like a dose of salts if you didnt. You just have to be clever. There are plenty of opportunities to get behind the defences with counter attacks and clever passes. It's gets tougher when the CPU goes ahead and protects their lead, which is natural.

I find alot of cheeky balancing acts going on here and there, but I look at the bigger picture, and the bottom-line is games are very competative, and you have to earn everything. I love that. There are flaws in every PES, but none are detracting from my enjoyment. On Zero Assistance the individuality is truly incredible. I have the shooting absolutely nailed, and it's my favourite part of the game. So many more options now, including the clipped chip shots from any range.

I use the GTM patch with no tweaks, I wouldnt have it any other way. I've not played Top Player at all, I dont need to, this feels the perfect balance for me.

I must admit, i do get hampered by the shooting, it feels inconsistent, even on konamis own official site where they do a 3 part tutorial on shooting they say 20% power for low shots, 50% for high shots and 80% would lead to a shot blazed over the bar, bnut this model doesnt even work consistently, last night i created a chance and put my forward clean through, aimed strongly towards the corner and lightly tapped shoot ... the ball should have flown daisy cutter style into the bottom corner, but it flew about 10 foot over the bar centrally.

as for the parking the bus, playing the ball about, not rushing, using pass and run, off the ball controls etc does open teams up and you can create chances still, it isnt a game breaker for me but sometimes does struggle to see the CPU teams playing any differnetly from eachother.

What do u mean by the clipped chip shot mate?
 
By clipped chip shots I mean L1 and shoot. The difference now is that they are no longer only effective from just around the box. You can 'clip' them (think the way Beckham clips his long passes, slicing through the dead centre of the ball) it's the same technique that allows you to try them from range. They are alot harder to pull off, which is a good thing because they were too easy for me in PES 11. I'll find a video on my phone and upload it, I scored it with Kevin Davies. It was the perfect moment and I attempted it instinctively and it worked perfect. Beautiful replication from Konami, stunning in fact.

You also have R2 maxed out from distance controlled shots. I pulled one of those off with Shimizu, it's on here somewhere.

Those shooting tips are absolute bollocks for the most part, I have no idea how or why they would publish that as it's not primarily how it works at all. There is some substance to the length of button press but it's all about posture, and distance from the ball. To smash it low and hard from distance, you need to have the right player and ensure the ball is out of your feet. A good few yards. You can then apply as much power on the bar as you like. More rather than less. Due to the fact the player is sprinting to address the strike, his body posture is by default leaning forward. This is the term 'Get your head over the ball' comes from- a classic coaching line heard when teaching technique. Because your head is looking down and arched forward, the strike of the ball stays low, as you connect 'over the ball'. Space permitting, sprint and pushing the stick in the direction you wish to move the ball off to works very well for also setting up this type of strike. Angles are very important now as well, more realistic. You need to make sure the correct foot is used and also the direction your aiming is relevant to the technique required. What I mean by that is dont always try to find the right side of the goal when you come back inside or face forward. Unless the player has the technique to either switch to his other foot or strike it with the outside of the boot, the chances of finding that area is slim. Just as it is in real-life, no different, spot on.

Also, the other type of strike, such as the Carlos Martin debut goal, is performed when the ball is close to your feet. Naturally, this is technically called 'digging the ball out', as out of your feet. Your natural posture for this will tend to have you arching back. This technique will get 'under the ball' and give it the height. You can add dip with your follow through by 'coming back up over the top' with the final motion. It's harder though, and that's the reason you see so many fly high, wide and hansom in real-life. The Row Z's.

Due to the distance, and the fact Carlos Martins has the Long Ranger Card, which causes the ball to hang that little more in flight, I was aware he didnt need to have the ball completely out of his feet. In fact, for the technique required, he had to 'dig it out'. If you look closely at it, you will see I didnt opt to smash it first time on the back of the sprint, I took a small touch first to bring it close to my his feet. I also made sure he had a clear strike, with no physical pressure from the CPU defenders. Also, I had the angle pretty much right, and I could take liberties with the power bar ( it was very high) because of the Long Ranger Card and all the other fundamentals in place. And sometimes, you get it just right and the gods are smiling. And that's what happened.

If you check the Watford video, the other type of Martins strikes were those where I made sure the ball was well out of his feet. That way they stayed low and hard. Those were some great saves, and to be fair, the Highlights probably missed another 4 or 5 of those. Always hold the direction, up/down, more as well, my issues as you will see from all my videos are sometimes I apply too much direction, by holding it down too long. I always use R2 after the shot in one-on-ones, or the little shoot/sprint dink.

Also the Tamudo side foot into the bottom corner was a 3/4 power R2 control shot. It required that much power as it was outside of the box. No problem finding the corner though. ;)

Edit - Just found a cheeky dribble and R2 placed shot into the far corner, nice goal this. Love the complex dribbling mechanics of this game, it's depth is staggering.

Im with you on how the principles of shooting work, getting over the ball for low driven shots, arch back for higher trajectory etc.
I used to play professionally for a premier league club and have completed various FA coaching courses, so my theory on the game is decent enough.

The L1 chip this year and in PES11 is different to previous years, in PES 10 the L1 chips were a lofted, arced 'lob' type chip, this new chip is a lower arced 'looping' effort, good for dinks over onrushing keepers, never actually tried it from range though.
And does holding R2 when shooting actually modify the shot in any way?
i know R2 after shooting is controlled shot but R2 BEFORE and whilst shooting?

I would love the option to choose when to drive a low hard rasper from range though, like holding L2 and shooting - produces a driven low shot, obviously depending on foot, stats, position, angle etc as to the accuracy.

Not seen you sign in on PS3 for ages mate, have to have a game someday.
 
nice post jimmy. you should write konami's manual. those konami tips are for noobs i guess.btw, what option file are u using?

still i wish konami would put in the old ps2 time l1+ shoot for the chip ball. in pes 2011 and 2012 is completely wrong.
 
I dont use R2 before shooting, or not in the striking regard, only to intercept the ball with a feint.

I use GTM World Pro option file, it's superb. There are no stat tweaks though.

I've not been online for a few reasons, mainly my son is now living with me and he's on Xbox and COD. Also, I'm blown away by this PES and ML. I was bored shitless playing PES 11 offline, and didnt even start an ML. This is a different animal altogether with Zero Assistance, so much more of a need to adhere strictly to fundamentals. I love that challenge.
 
what setting may i ask? 0 ass for sure, 15 minutes i guess. pro world or leg? what camera?

i always play with no stats tweak.

pretty much my setting, but i prefer long camera for some visual joy.

mind telling me ur tactical setting, especially how high/low defensem pressing and distance between player?

Problem with tons of games is that the other team can easily break the line with vertical ball. on top players is just crazy, on professional is more balanced.
 
Hey Jimmy, what patch you using? I'm off to re-purchase the game. I need my footy fix so I'm gonna give fl a whirl with a decent patch/option for ps3. I love reading some of your stories with fl. You mate it sound exiting!

I still have the orignal option file/patch from wenb. Do I still need this? Or should I start from scratch with

another?

Just a read a couple of posts back what option file you use. Where do I get it? And do I have to uninstall my orignal from wenb?

I have 4 differing tactics and relevant formations assigned to the 4 Presets available. I switch between those if and when I feels it's required. So much control in that regard, especially because you have the ability to assign players to the exact positions for each and every Preset. Never before possible.

Preset 1 - is a 4-4-2 option. 2 CB's, 2 FB's, 1 DMF (deep and holding, Bates and Williams have 82 and 87 respectively in those areas) 1 CMF (Martins), LMF- Petrov and RMF - Shimizu. Two CF's Emnes and Tamudo. This played with a slightly modified Possession default and more Pressing due to the Physical attributes I have and lack of speed.

Preset 2 is the Kitchen Sink - 4-3-3 or 4-1-5 (if I push both wingers to an advanced position)and Long Ball default. This gives me wide options with players that can deliver. Also instructs the frontline to break looking for one over the top. I'll bring on Ribiero or Gomes late for the heading accuracy and fresh legs, and generally make a nuisance of themselves. Heading Accuracy are 86 and 92 respectively. Great options for young kids with high stats in the relevant areas. Poop everywhere else.

I use this if behind, and also how many goals I'm chasing. Or when I'm level, late on, looking for the 3 points. I flick to this tactic sometimes when I have a throw-in high up the park. This brings them forward, players switch positions and the CPU struggles to pick up the options as they move so quick. Scored alot of goals that way, offline and in PEEL. Great tactic. You can then switch back to another Preset once you have the goal. Especially if it was to take the lead. Which brings me to Preset 3....

Preset 3 - 5-2-2-1 (3CB'-2FB's)+(2DMF's)+ (Narrow LMF and RMF)+ (1CF)

The obvious tactic is ALL OUT DEFEND and modified higher Pressing. This makes it very tight and busy at the back. Very tough to break down, even Godmode CPU. X Pressure tackle are nice and cynical, love those to break up attack by CPU. :)

Preset 4- Is the default Counter Attack Preset. I use 4-2-3-1. This is a defensive style that also offers plenty of options, passing wise in the middle of the park, and great counter opportunities. Especially when your trigger the CF's run. A good one if you only have one decent fit CF and also if your holding onto a 1-0 lead in the 2nd stanza. Keeps it tight with the two DMS or 1 DMF and 1 CF, but also keeps your attacking options open. (You dont want to sit too deep soaking it up, or your asking for trouble. Preset 3 is for that, as the personnel and tactics are in place for that.) And it's a less negative system than it looks on paper. It's worked very well for me this. Especially if you have decent long passers from the back quarter. Which I own a few. The French LB/RB/CB I bought has PinPoint Pass, and he has pinged some beauties over the top for my runner.

So those are what I use, works well for me and I've trained my squad to be able to play to these tactics, and also bought personnel to fit right in. The level of control and the depth is truly incredible from so many areas of this ML. This is how Alex and Arsene build their teams over the long term, and I'm doing just the same. Creating my own philosopy and making it work with tactics, training, formations and getting the staff I need to do a job on the park.

Truly brilliant.

Edit - Also be aware, for every Bar of Pass Assist you use, your moving one step away from what this simulation was designed to be, and also one step away from the complete package of pure individuality. And Passing is a huge part of football obviously. Zero Pass Assistance takes time to master, more so with lesser teams, but it has to be done. If you want the best simulation of football ever known. In my opinion. Also, the deepest and most purest are always the ones that take time to even begin to attempt to master. Because that's all anyone will ever truly do. Attempt.

Interesting. I have played on 0 pass assistance ever since PES12 came out but recently changed up to 1 bar and much prefer it. was getting too many inconsistencies with 0, high powered passes that were rolling 2 yards and vice versa, the 1 bar assist still gives me lots of freedom but seems to alleviate alot of the 'WTF?!' passes that were happening, obviously is whatever feels most comfy for each person, theres no right or wrong, but the more assistance you have, the more the game closes down other options.

I have a different formation assigned to each slot too.
As default I play a 4-4-2 or if you like could call it a 4-1-2-1-2, in effect a diamond midfield, one DMF sat in front of the back 4, 2 wide midfielders, and an AMF sat in the hole behind the 2 CF's. This works well for me and suits my style of play.
On slot 2 i have the same formation but with a flat 4 across midfield, useful for when CPU teams are bossing midfield, i can pull the AMF and DMF in and crowd them out.
Slot 3 is my all out defence tactic, a 5-4-1, for defending a tight lead, and on the flipside, slot 4 is an all out attack 3-4-3, pushing the 2 wide midfielders up top and pulling a defender into midfield. I use this to flood the opposition box and try and force a goal.
Whilst its fantastic that Konami have given us the flexibility here, the only grumble i have is that if you switch formations/tactics mid game and say pull a CB into a DMF role, after the game he will whine about hating being played out of position, when in fact he wasnt, he was asked to take on a new role for a period of time in one match because special circumstances dictate it. Get on with it.

a won derful session of 7 games, 5 wins and 2 draws, last night has pushed me up to 2nd in the table, 1pt behind the leaders Blackburn, I have the best goal difference and have conceded the least amount of goals.
Saha is playing well, youth signing Senedimir is knocking in the goals, Stokes is as trusty as ever and regen Seedorf is bossing Midfield.
Promotion looks a nail on, barring a disaster.

1. Alot of that is down to the lesser players you were using initially I think, at least it was for me. That's why I started using R2 and X together, for the controlled pass. I use it less now as I dont need it as much since I worked soley in Technique for the first season in charge. I still use it now and again. Also, I want error here and there, not every pass should hit the target, even if we feel we get most things right. It defines the greater more consistent passers of the ball.

2. :LOL: I blag 'em with the classic 'You'll be restored next time'. I tld Matty Bates I was converting him to DMF and he was over the moon. So I did, and now he bosses the park in there. Or did, more on that later.....

i dont really notice any difference in playing a pass with R2?
its not in the manual and hasnt been confirmed by Konami, wouldnt be suprised if its more of a placebo effect.

It 100% isnt mate, it's perfect for those short ones to a winger on Zero. You wont misplace one, try it. Konami must put about 50% in the Manual bud, if that.
 
i personally think 0 pass is rubbish and poorly implemented. i found 1 or 2 much better, pes 2011 like.

as far as the rest on professional small teams the game is indeed quite fun to play. i used similar tactics, defese line very low to avoid easy break through.

and quite frankly i never used the off the ball trigger, feels like cheating in free kick and makes me lose the ball during the action.
