PES 2012 Football Life thread

Cool Jimmy, may try it more often then mate. there are times when a short 10 yard pass goes behinf the player rather than to his feet so hopefully it will help with that, where stats allow.

Konami do sell theirself short by not describing/advertising/promoting certain elements of the game.
Yeah PES 12 has many flaws, as has been well discussed but the game is very very deep on many levels, for example:

I quite like the way that when players have special ability cards, depending on the role you choose for them, they play differently.

Seedorf as a prime example:
I’ve been playing him as a DMF, where his OVR is 66, he’s only 16 dont forget, his special ability cards are Talisman, Anchor Man and Enforcer.
As a DMF his active cards are: Anchor Man and Enforcer, Anchor Man being someone that stays back deep and patrols along the front of the defensive line and Enforcer being a player that is strong and defensive minded, that stops opposition building attacks through the middle.

Whereas if I change his role to a CMF instead of DMF (but keep him in the same position within the formation) his OVR goes up to 70 and the active attribute card becomes Talisman, which means he is influential and drives the team forward.
You can really notice this in play. Seedorf was playing as a DMF and as expected was sitting deep playing the Mascherano type role, cutting out passes and putting tackles in, protecting the back 4,but then we went 1-0 down, and switching him to a CMF role saw him play higher up the pitch, but still in position, and joining in the attacks more, managed to pop off 2 or 3 shots from the edge of the box with him, eventually getting the equaliser.

Quite a deep and flexible tactical element of the game that probably doesnt get enough credit.

nice one!

Quick question though, do I delete my orignal base option file from wenb etc?

Just copy everything over it. It would take eternity to delete every individual file and there is no real need.

Also, as well as pressing R2 after you shoot for a controlled shot, try tapping R2 after a high pass (Circle), it will take the pace off the pass and float it. It's a great option long and short when the deck is blocked by players. Yet another not in the Manual.

r2 and O is very handy if u have the likes of llorente o crouch in box. but it has been like that ever since, nothing new there.

I've been struggling with PES this year but I have been having a blast since I started BAL. I'm an AMF with Verona, only a few games in, scored one and unlucky not to score more.

Having just downloaded an option file 360 (Daymos' version, which is fantastic), I haven't had a single bad game where something really glitchy has happened or I've noticed any cheating. Playing 15min games with the medium camera angle on Professional.

Had maybe 1 or 2 weak shots, which I fixed by holding the power bar down longer with that player next time. Also noticed some really nice intelligence from the AI when going forward.

I hope they can add to the variety and number of animations for passing and shooting on PES 2013. There seem to be a lot where they just reach out and toe poke the ball, even on passing. In fact, it would be nice if they could smooth out the movement sometimes so that players can't just play 3 or 4 quick passes in a warped speed. Looks weird sometimes.

If they can fix those issues up, it would do wonders for me.

Noticed people complaining about the visuals recently but on my calibrated TV I find them good on the medium camera. Can't see as much of the pitch but it's nice to play a slower build up and use the radar for a longer pass or through ball.

I play pes on pc. I have a master league team but i cant use it in an exhibition match. can anybody tell me how to fix this problem?

I think Jimmy answered this a few weeks back, either on this thread or on the main discussion thread. I had a quick look but couldn't see it.

If you mean online, there should be a filter in the match room options for allowing all teams. If you mean offline just in an exhibition game, then maybe you can go to the last "league" which is User Data and select your master league team. If it's not there, I think there was a fairly simple way of getting it in there if someone can remember it.

To use your master league team in exhibition matches you need to load up your Master league, then goto data management and choose save team data. this will export your master league team out.
Then go into exhibition match, select user data and your master league team will appear.

i personally think 0 pass is rubbish and poorly implemented. i found 1 or 2 much better, pes 2011 like.

as far as the rest on professional small teams the game is indeed quite fun to play. i used similar tactics, defese line very low to avoid easy break through.

and quite frankly i never used the off the ball trigger, feels like cheating in free kick and makes me lose the ball during the action.

Thanks for taking your time in replying Jimmy. I really appreciated it!

I respectfully disagree about the first part, I truly believe it's an evolved passing system to PES 2011. I never believed that anybody could properly marry a fully manual system that also ensures player statistics are hugely relevant. With this system, in my opinion, they have.

I totally agree that 1-Bar or 2-Bar passing assistance is very similiar to PES 2011. I also believe that the higher the bar you go after that, takes you back to old-gen PES and it's mechanics. 'On Rails', if you like.

I have to say ever since I have turned off all the assists the game has become a lot more playable and enjoyable. It becomes less scripted and more random I think.

I also noticed that player runs occur more if you hold the ball briefly instead of passing it forward quickly. It's like the guy in front of you realises he's not going to get the ball there and then makes a dash forward.

This.This.This.................

I actually fell into a run of bad form in my ML, although I'm happy to say, I'm right back on track. For whatever reason, my mindset changed, and I couldnt get a result for love nor money. After a day off, I switched my PS3 back on, played a match, then realised exactly what I was doing wrong. The bottom-line is, I was trying to rush and force everything. This game isnt designed for that, it's all about the Active A.i and patience. Unless you have an obvious 'Counter', then it's much better to always look for the easiest option, and more often than not, that means playing a pass square or back, and starting again.

Also, the sprint button is your worst enemy, and for so many reasons. I've found staying well clear of that button has reaped so many rewards for me. Mainly due to the fact the CPU is alot more aggressive in the challenge when you show it too much of the ball. Much like real-life. Keeping the ball close, by not sprinting, and also holding R2 will open up so many more options. Especially when using the Possession Tactic.

Also, the Active A.i works less when you constantly try to just move the ball forward, or leave your finger on the sprint button. Much like in real-life, when a player gets his head down and charges forward at pace with the ball, his options become more limited. This is down to the fact, as a player, you dont know exactly what the ball-carrier's intentions are. On the flip-side, if the player is jogging with the ball, his options from his team-mates are alot more apparent, as they are aware, that the ball-carrier is looking for the pass. This PES is exactly the same in this regard.

What I've also found is that, as long as your not sprinting, then it's so much easier to retain possession. The CPU doesnt commit itself, which means you dont need to treat the ball like the proverbial 'hot potato', you can literally keep it close to you till the very last minute before laying it off. The CPU wont charge or pressure you if the ball is close to your feet. And that's a fact. I've found that once I cross the half-way line, instead of triggering a run for a through-ball, I now, more often than not, look wide or back. The way the Active A.I. moves around you is quite staggering if you look to build-up play. Breaking down their defence is then so much easier and you can drag play from one side of the park to the other.

I was pretty much doing all this before, but for some reason, I became intent on trying to get the ball forward too quick, and it was always to my detriment.

Boro are currently lying 4th in the Championship, and everything is clicking for me beautifully. I have some great videos to post with some more cracking goals and a proper update of how we have progressed. But more of that later.

This +1000

I get bored of people talking shit about a game they don't even try to understand or deeply know. I've playing Winning Eleven series since Ps1 days, and there are things that are far beyond the tips in the manual. The whole thing you could do in PS2 is still there, plus the new ones. To me, despite the fails here and there, PES2012 is an amazing piece of football gaming, and the best one I ever dreamed.

Jeez, Amen sir. A truly incredible replication in my opinion. I'm blown away by it's realism.

Edit - One more thing, I've just began to understand and appreciate this new type of shot that is now available. Namely, the R2 Controlled Shot from distance. This is a brilliant new addition that makes the Beckham shot that Rob mentioned last year, now possible. The theory is simple, you can now add a decent amount of power, then direction, then press R2 afterwards. This gives you the opportunity to bend and place one into the corners from distance, i.e, from 25-yards+. And without backlift. It's an amazing replication that gives you so much control over these longer distance placed strikes. The Highlights I'll post later will show quite a few of my attempts using this system. Love it.

Totally second Jimmy's comments on 'trying to be too direct and rush things'
I had played 6 ML seasons, and hadnt been promoted, i looked at my tactics and formation, tweaked it accordingly to a more standard tactic rather than quick counter, adjusted them to suit a more patient build up play and focused on being patient with the ball.
I pass side to side, back, switch flanks, drag the CPU out of position, where as before i was rushing the ball forward trying to be to direct.
I hear people say PES12 has 'no midfield play', Im wondering whether these people dont see much Midfield play purely because they are being too direct, its all too easy to rush the ball from CB to CF with one pass.

I have signed a regen Seedorf, playing him as a DMF, he runs the show, everything goes through him, and ive had several 0-0's lately where its been a rugged, gritty midfield battle with barely many chances and lots of turnovers.
The change of play style has benefited me, last night I finished season 7, and finished 3rd, gaining promotion to the Prem, after an incredible run in where my last 3 games were against the teams 1st,2nd and 4th, so it was nail biting stuff, ive never played a more on-edge, grittty,m nervous game of PES as last night against Norwich, which sealed my promotion. Brilliant Stuff.
Now if they could only sort out the shooting ( and despite what ANYONE says - its still a bit wayward and off) this would be one helluva game.

I have the shooting mastered pretty much bud, no complaints from me, I feel I can do anything at any given time. Also, my shots NEVER go down the middle or in the wrong direction. As all my video's will show, I'm massively guilty of applying too much direction. Try these R2 controlled shots from outside the box. ;)

Patch 1.03 has taken away all the God-like moments, and everything is so much more fluid now. I very, very rarely feel hard done by, and I no longer need to use the Man Markers in every game. This should have been how the game was released, but better late than never.

Edit - Congratualtions on Promotion bud, I know just how hard that is.

Thanks mate, got there in the end, just hope i dont come straight back down again.
I owe you an apology, well not apology but a nod of ackowledgement that you was right, R2 passing IS different, more guided/controlled, useful in tight situations.

Im envious of your Shooting Mastery bud, i always try and get the ball on my strong foot, push it into space for the shot, make sure im not under pressure etc but there are times when everything, every rule just seems to go out the window.
If im unmarked inside the 18yd box, in space, ball on my strong foot, facing the goal, and i 'tap' the shoot button, and aim bottom left, i expect the ball to go there, i DONT expect it to fly 10 yards over the bar after ive only tapped the shoot button and created the optimal shooting position... for me there is no counter argument or excuse for that.
* my player was on a RED form arrow too.

This is the only thing stopping me Drooling over PES12.

Yeah, the R2 Pass noticably takes the weight off the pass, it replaces it with a more composed, deft knock. I use it alot less now due to the fact my players are very capable in the passing department. I only really use it with my two French defenders, as they haven't been with me long enough to feel the benefit of the Technique based Training Regime I instilled from the offset.

The thing to remember with the shooting is that any strike used without the R2 aftertouch, is basically a head down, laces strike. All the composure comes from the technique used with R2. Inside the box, unless it's a snap-shot, then I'll always apply R2 for the control. I use it now outside of the box now as well, but only for those strikes were I have to dig it out. Mainly because your natural body posture is already set for this new type of R2 shot from distance. You can take liberties with the power bar as well when using this technique.

I will still get the odd instance where my player will hit it over the bar from close range. I have no problem with that, it happens. Especially when a player is trying to dig it out, and leaning back. Those shots will usually fly over the angle though, rather than straight down the keepers throat.

The use of R2 in this game, as I keep saying, is priceless. What I love the most, is how you need to use R2 just to fashion an opening for a clear strike. It's so subtle, but it's so relevant and realistic.

Chopra scored one for me last night, and the whole scenario and technique used was flawlessly realistic. 9 times out of 10, the player would have been dispossessed by the shadowing defence. The use of R2 on three seperate occasions ensured that didnt happen. I earned this goal myself by simply applying technique and subtle presses of R2.

Carlos Martins picked out Chopra's run, but as the ball dropped, I pressed R2 to bring it close to his body. This took the emphasis away from the defenders interception. I then tapped R2 and a direction to move it away from the other tacking defender. Chopra basically flicked it away and came inside with that touch. Finally, with the keeper advancing, I applied half power, then pressed R2 for a controlled finish. It was great, great goal, that I fully earned. I loved it. It's hard to see everything from the video, but you'll notice how the defence are left flat-footed thanks to the R2 feints.

R2 is King in this game!
when shooting from inside/outside the box, do you hold R2 during the shot, or hold it after you have powered up, as a controlled shot?

Thats a well taken goal, I also scored from a corner, utilising the R2 when the ball was in the air, in order to manouver my Cf into clear space for the shot.
R2 Corner Strike

I always use R2 after the shot mate, never when I'm charging up the power.

Nice finish, he pulled off lovely there. :)

Cool cheers mate, Id heard that R2 during the shot isnt a controlled shot as such but an instep shot, no idea if this is actually true.
I do find R2 con trolled shots a bit hit and miss, as if the gauge fills up to quick to use R2 after, i guess i just need practise.
Looking forward to designing some premier league specific adboard and gfx for my new stadium, and upgrading the away end stand to a bigger one ready for the new season.

Ok, so an update as promised of Boro’s current Championship campaign. After beating Watford 2-1, next up was Norwich away. This was the start of my poor run of form, and when I, for whatever reason, stopped playing the patient football, and looked to force things. This didn’t work.

The game with Norwich ended 0-0, but Boro played pretty poor. To add insult to injury, quite literally, Matty Bates was crocked for 4 months after a horrific challenge from behind saw him limp off after only 8 minutes played. His injury was a bad one, and he spent the next 4 months on the sidelines. This was a massive loss in itself, as Matty is a huge player for me in the DMF role. He was badly missed.

Boro hosted Derby County in their next game, but with Bates missing, and me off form, we went down 3-1. Carlos Martins came close, but his freekick smashed off the near post to deny him his 3rd of the season. Derby scored first, but Emnes gave the home fans hope when a Petrov pass found his run, and his cute dink levelled the tie. Derby then ended the argument with a further two goals and Boro were left scratching their heads as to what had gone so badly wrong.

Boro hosted Leeds next up, but another poor performance saw Leeds not only gain revenge for their F.A. Cup defeat, but also take a valuable 3 points in a 1-0 win.

Blackpool were the hosts next up for a Boro team badly in need of a win. Carlos Martins was inspirational once again as he turned provider for both Emnes and Tamudo. He first picked out Emnes with a ball over the top, Emnes took a touch then rolled it into the far corner. 1-0. With less than 10 minute to play, Blackpool pushed forward and got ripped apart on the counter. Martins found Tamudo, who chipped the keeper. Boro took all 3 points and a welcome injection of confidence, although in hindsight, at this point, everything was still very rushed and hurried.

Norwich entertained Boro in the 2nd Round of the F.A. Cup. Boro took the lead after Emnes smashed one off the far post from a first time shot (R2) from just outside the area. Norwich then equalised after a corner was parried to their striker who wasn’t going to miss from 5 yards out. Boro then retook the lead, Souprayen powering home a Petrov corner. 2-1. Norwich then broke Boro’s heart with two goals in the last 10 minutes. Bummer.

Boro bounced back from their F.A. Cup exit by beating League leaders Nottingham Forest at home, 2-0. Two sloppy goals to be honest, both goalmouth scrambles, but Chopra and Emnes weren’t complaining. Boro still hadn’t found their footballing philosophy at this time, but were scraping wins.

It was Blackburn at Ewood Park next up, and although Boro took an early lead from a ‘Perfect’ Petrov freekick,(Down on D-Pad, then right and X to dip) Blackburn punished the sloppy Teessiders, and ran out 3-1 winners. And they were good for it, a Robert’s hat-trick rubberstamped the need to change Boro’s rushed and impatient current form.

Bottom of the league Burnley then stole a point as Boro, although now playing some beautifully patient football, couldn’t put the ball in the back of net. Boro dominated the match, and on a different day, could have left 4 goals to the good. Promising signs though, Boro were back in their groove.

With a renewed vigour and a focus on patient football, Boro welcomed Southampton to the Riverside Stadium. With a severely depleted first 11, Boro rallied to an excellent win with a very workmanlike performance. Nuno Gomes making his first start of the season scored the winner from a deep Petrov cross. 1-0 Boro.

With confidence high, and Boro playing easily their best football of the season, Portsmouth became the next victim of the new ‘footballing’ revolution. Boro played their visitors off the park, but couldn’t find that decisive goal. Once again, enter that man Carlos Martins. With a short pass played to him outside the area, he nudged the ball out of his feet with his first touch, and then smashed one into the far corner with his 2nd. (R2 distance shot) Boro held on for all 3 points, and Martins added another to his impressive season’s scrapbook.

YouTube - Portsmouth 0-1 Boro

Boro then travelled to Reading looking to extend their winning run, and impose their new brand of football onto their hosts. With Tamudo out, Riberio was given his first start of the season up top. Reading drew first blood, a clinical pass and finish from Le Fondre. Riberio then paid back his managers faith when his swivel-and-turn shot (R2), found the bottom corner. 1-1. Boro then took all 3 points when a trademark Martins piledriver smashed off the upright, and Riberio made it two on the day with his controlled follow-up shot (R2).

YouTube - Reading 1-2 Boro

Boro were flying now on every level, as Hull City were welcomed to the Riverside. With both Emnes and Tamudo out, Boro started Riberio and Chopra. Boro took the lead when a Carlos Martins pass over the top found Chopra, his R2 display did the rest. Hull then equalised to spoil the party with less than 5 minutes to play. The game ended 1-1.

The final game to date saw Boro travel to Birmingham for what turned out of be a very tough and physical game. Birmingham took a deserved lead after a ferocious 30 yard drive cracked in off the underside of the bar. Boro struggled to create any real chances and it looked like their unbeaten run was about to come to an abrupt end. That was until Petrov produced a moment of magic. Tamudo rolled the ball into his feet, he took a touch, separated himself, and let his left foot do the rest. What resulted was a stunning 25 yard drive into the far corner. The game ended 1-1, and Boro were very happy to come away with a point.

During the January Transfer Window, I tried to sign 6 players, but no-one fancied a trip to sunny Teesside. And after huge fallout with Shimizu, I sold him for £1.8 million to Napoli. Good riddance, fucking bellend.

You can charge it to full power mate. Actually you can press R2 quite late, even when the animation has started for a laced shot and they can still change halfway through and hit a controlled shot. The nice shots are by those with special cards like Rooney and they can get some real bend on the ball.

I've also noticed that holding the chip button can sometimes hit curled shots if you're outside the box and come in at the correct angle.

That "long ranger" card has really got to you jimmy.. you try lots of long range shots nowadays it seems.. :P
Anyways regarding that R2 after the shot, the shot feels a little delayed, as kind of fake shot..
i normally press R2 during the shot which according to me ensures the direction given to the shot doesnt go wayward or extreme..

Nice one lads!! cheers!!
did notice last night when I was playing that using R2 with the shots put them right where i wanted and scored some beauties, this was using Man Utd though, so better players in general, not sure how impactive it would be with my ML players.

It certainly has, but unlike some, I'm loving the shooting on this game. :)

Also, alot of my front-end players love a dig from distance. If I can create some space, and all the factors are in place, then I'll just pull the trigger. You gotta buy a ticket to win the raffle, and I buy loads. :)

I scored a couple of screamers last night in my ML with Boro, I only had time to play a couple of games, but both produced special goals. The two goals in question, were both off the back of the R1 and direction move. Both players (Wellens and Tamudo), used this technique to get the ball out of their feet with their first touch, then smashed them from range, right into the top bag. Unfortunately, the Tamudo goal wont go down in the history books due to the fact that my PS3 crashed in that game after the match had finished. Nevertheless, I managed to record the goal via the Highlights before that happened. :)

Boro's trip to Leicester City was a stunning encounter, with both teams sharing both a point and six goals between them. Boro started the brighter, a lovely patient passing move carved open the Leicester defence, and one-two between Emnes and Gomes saw the youngster thread a pass back to Emnes who cooly chipped the onrushing keeper. (R2). 1-0 Boro. Leicester then equalised after Vassell was put in by Beckford and he stroked one into the bottom corner. 1-1.

Wellens, on his first trip back to his old hunting ground, and against his old club, threw his name into the hat for Goal of Season, with a stunning drive into the top corner from 30 yards plus. It was obviously in the script as they say, but isnt it funny how that seems to happen in football ? :)

Leicester then drew level again, after Bamba was given far too much space and time. 2-2. Leicester then took the lead for the first in the match, Beckford finishing a Leicester move that once again seemed certain to end Boro's unbeaten run. If that was the case, then someone forgot to give Emnes a copy of the script. In stoppage time, and with Boro staring down the barrel, his cute first-touch and even cuter finish (R2) found the bottom corner and a pulsating match ended 3's a-piece. Great, great game. And what a thunderous strike from Wellens by the way. Wow !!! :WOOT:

Quality Jimmy, will check out the vids when i get home.
Spent 2hrs last night designing new Home and Away kits, upgrading my stadium, and adding premier league specific adboards and banners with new sponsors etc.
Then I went through and reassigned more realistic stadiums to every premier league team, and also added several in game chants, win chants and goal chants for every premier league team. Took me about 2hrs by which point it was late so just had a couple of friendlies with random teams to test out my new stadium.
Beat Newcastle on professional with Man utd 3-0, bagging a coupole of nice R2 shots, ground out a 0-0 on professional against Wigan with my ML team from a few seasons ago, so mostly defaulters, and then beat PSV 1-0 with Spurs on Superstar level. all really enjoyable games.

Looking forward to cracking on with my ML campaign and my assault on the premier league tonight.
