PES 2011 Discussion thread

I've played some more matches with both demo's now.
I like both games, i agree that PES is less fluid than FIFA...
There is something weird with both games: PES is easier to dribble but i keep winning FIFA games and haven't succeded in winning one single PES game (on the same difficulty, the highest).

My biggest gripe is the stutter. I hope this only happens in the demo. I had it 5 times in one half...which is a lot. Sometimes i don't understand Konami. They have a game which used to be the critics and harcore fans' favourite. It goed downhill next gen and then the latest installment is this giant leap forward, but they have demo with a stutter..this is extremely annoying.

I'm getting used to the new defense system. But when i have the full game i shall have to read the manual carefully...it's 3 years since i've been playing PES on an almost daily basis, i have forgotten lots of things.

One other thing: when you pass it's like the ball rolls in mud...the way the ball stops feels not very natural to me on a normal pitch...i'm getting used to this and it's not a big gripe, but still it isn't like it should be...

I will buy both games. I usually end up playing one for 90% of the time, this has been FIFA for a couple of years...i'm not sure now.

What does :triangle: do?

It does put wicked pace on the ball.

I hit one last night from about 24m and got my aim wrong but still managed to get it over Bautistas bald head in the wall....do you know how tall that guy is. I feel like Beckham or Cronaldo when I take these free kicks lately...I think I am starting to scare the goalies as well. I'll make a video of all the girls I've loved before...I mean all the FKs I've scored so far and post them later.

On the super smooth clucnk free movement.

Don't you dare turn PES into a FIFA clone. I remember FIFA08 having somewhat realistic weight and footplanting. FIFA11 is light and players tend to glide.

IRL when I play football I try to see which side the opponent is coming at me. In this way I move the ball opposite to the players direction which renders him off balance and not able to react to a ball millimeters away from his foot.

I use this concept in PES as well even PES2010, watch the defenders body position and direction and move against it to gain that extra yard. This is completely missing in FIFA11 and I think it's because of this freed up movement.

I fear the day that Konami decide to listen to the "experts" I'ld rather leave it in Seabass capable hands. Nothing wrong with making suggestions but you have to leave somethings to this genious.

Oh that'll be these then Zee. ;))

Sorry Mate couldnt resist it.

To the guys that think PES feels clunky, try not using the sprint button soo much and use smaller movements of the stick. Movement was one of the things I really struggled with at first, it felt forced and rigid. Coming from PES5 and its limited directions I was trying to move players in the same way, with big unmeasured movements of the stick and the result I was getting was players moving in a fashion similar to PES5. When I started leaving the R1 button alone more and using very small movements of the stick the game became much more fluid, the animations look a bit funny at times but you will be able to turn in a tighter circle and have more control of the ball. I also find it helpful to really pay attention to the player I have on the ball and the movements they are making and try not to make them do anything that is unnatural, you cant just have players spin round 180 degrees in a instant with perfect ball control, this isnt FIFA, weight has to be transferred and its that transfer of weight that is probably what feels clunky to you.

I love this game. I want to see full ver. none online service has recorded it yet? gamespot, jeuxvideo ? nothing? gametrailers :(

Some things that annoy me. Too many little fouls. Ref blows for everything. And a replay for every single thing that happens...grrrrrrrr

Just wanted to say, while it's fine to sit back and see what PES does year on year with their improvements, it isn't just up to Konami what goes into the game. A lot of the changes Konami have made this year would have been submitted to them by fans. It's up to Konami which fan requests they act on, and they'll have their own ideas too, but fans being proactive about voicing their concerns/problems/ideas is what has given you a he'll of a lot of the changes from 2010 to 2011.

Exactly my point.

Spot on.

Very true. The point I was originally making was that I'm not a developer, and I dont know whats possible to implement and what isnt. I appreciate the technical reproduction, and from day 1, I've been very impressed on how Konami seem to grasp and understand all the relevant fundamentals within football. They have been the innovators for years, and I just enjoy seeing and feeling their reproduction in all its many guises. The first touch has really been a focal point in next gen, and it is something that was missing in hindsight from the 'legendary' titles such as PES 5. It's not an idea I would have come up with, but Konami did, and I appreciate and hugely welcome it's inclusuion. I just like to be surprised. :)

Agreed but there are some things we need to steer away from and leave to the experts. I am all for feedback but there's feedback and there's brain farts perceived to be feedback.

I agree. I'd hate to see instant control and turning like there is on Fifa. Seabass is going totally in the right direction.

Seriosly, you find no room for improvement? It's hard for me to understand where you're coming from if you see nothing wrong with the game. After all, though beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, nothing is perfect.

As for my opinions about PES movement and angles etc., I was honestly asking what you meant. I'm enjoying the demo the more i play it but I just find it difficult to understand how improving freedom of movement and controls, adding more animations, and making things more fluid would all of the sudden ruin the angles and "the clever stuff" - and I was simply asking if you could explain why. I wasn't arguing as much as questioning, since I don't know jack-all about programming. I was simply operating under the assumption that PES could benefit from taking some of the positives from the competition.

If the game was as fluid as Fifa, it would lose all it's individuality. Fifa is really easily accessible but there is no depth to the gameplay. There is depth to PES because you have to learn which players are good on the ball and which players aren't so good.

For example, Van Buyten is a little clumsy on the ball and turns like an oil tanker, but he is very strong and great in the air. Olic, has good stamina and good work-rate. His touch is better than Van Buyten's and he turns more sharply, but compared to Robben or Ribery, his touch is actually fairly poor.

I don't feel that with Fifa, as every animations is fluid, and i feel like i can turn fairly sharply with every player. This leads to me not really having to think about how i'm playing. I can switch off and still score in Fifa. I'm not good enough to do that with PES, because if you switch off, you forget what your players strengths are.

The depth in PES11 is what makes it so good. I played an epic 20 minute match against Barca on top player last night. I knew they were too good so i played with 3 defensive midfielders and attacked largely on the counter. I lost 2-1 to a last minute fee-kick, but the game had an immersion that i've never felt in Fifa. It's hard to explain, but it's probably because the game feels less free and instantaneous, which is a very good thing for a football simulation.

I like that, it's like PES5 again. You can not just sprint around barging into players, defending is more considered this year.

I love it to Jamez, defending is now a real skill which is exactly how we should expect it to be replicated. Timing and judging distance and the reading of the game. All the hallmarks of a top class defender, mirrored perfectly in a video game. For a dead-ball specialist, the opportunity to win free-kicks, due to the margin of error from defending without thought, is just a dream. :)

Yep, it's how it should be.

You want the ball back? Get it off me properly or give away the foul.

I love the fact that now you really have to time your tackles right and not just barge into people. Have gotten the hang of it after some games. However, the only gripe is that the CPU has to learn to defend as well, because they make too many niggling fouls, which are all perfectly correct calls and I like that, just dont like too many of them.

I don't mean me fouling them, i mean them fouling me, but just ever so slightly that i keep posession of the ball...still the ref is blowing like crazy.

I find that on defense, i don't commit so many fouls. This is due to the new defense system, which i really like.

Yeah, me to, Top Player ai is a right dirty, spoiling cynical piece of work.

I guess it's a reaction to the criticism of the referees in PES2010, where you could commit assault and not give away a foul.
