PES 2011 Discussion thread

finally got a proper match online. such beautiful football, no absurd pressuring and etc. is oneoff2007 over here by any chance? first match in 3 days in which got to play slow and beautiful football online.

i took newc and he roma. fought out a goalless draw.

I didn't notice before that there is one unlicensed team in Serie A. Palermo is called Xavrenaguel.

I really wish they'd actually put some thought in the unlicensed teams. Most people eventually overcome licensing issues with option files but I wouldn't have as many issues with for example the D2 teams if they'd have proper player and team names. 'VV Jarochnaard' is supposed to be a Dutch team with Dutch players but the player names and the team name make no sense at all.

It's minor, I know. I like nitpicking.

Just installed that OF had and a look, very impressed. He has edited all the teams tactics and playing styles, ML should be good.

I cannot believe the online exploiters would try and ruin a good game like this. All the Real Madrid, Barca, AC Milan. I play a guy he picks Ronaldo Madrid. I pick Genoa, he scores first and he is zipping one touch passes, then i score the best freekick i have ever scored in all the time i've played these games, laid off to the right and a curl around the wall, the reply show the ball curling. The Luca Toni gets the ball 25yrds out wrestles through 3 players and hits a 20 yrd cracker in off the bar.

Fark you spammer and fark Real Madrid. You just don't get the satisfaction when you score a goal with any other game. Well i don't anyway.

Managed to go from 540 division points to 490 in about 10 matches tonight. Don't think I've won one. Mainly because they've been against better opponents in pathetic 5 minute matches that encourage crap football or in coach mode where my team play like retards.

I experienced the same tonight. I lost many matches because of AI awareness, not shooting the ball away or player switching. I don't play coach mode. Why would i want to watch a game i can play for myself.

So PES2011 has the pressure whores online like Fifa does as well. That sux. I really dont know why both games dont just ramp up the fatigue effect and you will see the pressure whores think twice.

There is really nothing else you can do. I mean i don't hold X, but sometimes the opponent just walks past you and my player does nothing. So it's better to press and hold X than doing nothing.

I have played the most weirdest players ever. They play something like 5 0 5. i take so much advantage of the midfield. They think they can get away with these stupid formations. Before a game I check game plan and I always adjust my style of play/formation so it will be effective. Doesn't always work because sometimes the other is just better. but this way they can't abuse the freedom.

Guy's any chance Konami will bring out a patch? This game is addictive. Only today i said 3 games eventually i played 9 games, but some things are just frustrating, but it still is the best football game ever made.

You can defend against it Rob, I have absolutely no problem, and very little with player switching. I can stop through balls all day long, and I have just played 5 matches in a MLO Comp without conceding one goal. Also some teams had the likes of Messi and were playing 5 upfront. :)

I have my cursor player switching set to semi-assisted, this means its assisted when you attack, but when defending it doesnt switch until to you press it. I also find that aiming in the direction of the player you which to switch to seems to work alot.

When a player his attacking in my half, I switch players and make the CPU Ai press immediately, whilst I track back covering any potential through ball. I either intercept the through ball, or the CPU Ai press wins it for me whilst I cover. Through balls can be very dangerous in this game, as I'm sure everyone is more than aware, but taking control of a player off the ball gives you the ability to track and cover the channels. Very, very effective once you get the hang of it.
I'll be the first to admit I'm not the best PES player, or gamer in general, but I'd like to think that I have a good understanding of how football is played.

My MLO record is 50-31-29
Average scored/conceded - 1.14/0.84

As I said, I'm quite shit.

But I think I completely understand the defensive controls, and have tried everything against these people - defending realistically, running around trying to intercept with super cancel, trying to hold a solid defensive position and use secondary pressure, using a really deep defensive line, pushing the defensive line forward, assisted switching, semi-assisted switching (currently using). You name it, I've probably tried it...

I'm really interested in how you people supposedly stop these idiots - what slider settings, what positions do you put your defenders in on the formation screen etc.?

All of that said, when I'm on my game (or some sort of rubberbanding takes effect), I can shut out the opposition very well - yesterday I managed to stop someone who was rated nearly 600 with a team of superstars from even having one shot!

Rob is it master league online your having issues with? Your really having a tough time by the sound of it.

Thing is i've only been beaten twice by people using cheap tactics which both times were my fault for missing so many chances i created and being beaten by one goal!

Mos to these cheap guys i just beat easily, just pass it around them man :)

Like you said before your getting wound up too much by them, and they throw you off your game too easily! Just ignore their shit play, concentrate on yours and wait fro their defense to open up (and it will since they just hold the x button down :) )
It was MLO, yes - normal matches will just be full of Barca/Milan whores which will probably be even worse than MLO for cheap tactics!

Too often I see the ball literally run over the toes of my defenders who will make no attempt to intercept it, I really don't know what I'm doing wrong sometimes.

I'm finding pressuring easier to play against now, feel like a bit of a twat though sometimes when I end up passing round in a FIFA-esque way, I still think it should be easier to dribble past people who are holding A - PES5 still has this balance done better for me.

This game has most of the worst factors from every football game - ping-pong passing, retarded keepers/defenders on cutbacks, awful player switching, godlike players (mainly Ibra).
But despite all of that, it's still brilliant :).

Why are you quoting your own post???
I was just reinforcing a point I made in that post, made sense to quote it :).

Rob, if you sense the guy is going to try to draw your defenders out like a gamer rather than a footballer, just let your back 4 do the defending, and grab your DM/CM to apply presure. If he sprays it out wide just use the second defender button to block wide attacks; hold it down, and mark whoever he's trying to pass/cross to.

its not switching auto in def yes but when u click its often just wrong and u need to click several times

thing with cpu press is that they hardly do (good) tackles
and if u hold too long cpu/human out runs/dribbles ur cpu players
so u need to press carefully and this doesnt help much as they dont win the ball its just a delay thingy

only thing u can do is to switch right before a good tackle can be made (if switching lets u)
and try the tackle by ur own

so this tactic to hang back and let the cpu press isnt that good
u just wait with ur player its too passive

a more agressive way is to press with cpu and go for the pass receiver with ur player, more interceptions and faster
or just select everytime the player nearest the ball and cover the passing angles + carefully pushing cpu pressing to fill up the space so the whole team comes nearer to the other team

edit:
for those who have problems that their defenders do nothin and get overrun by messi etc.
if u do a tackle out of plain X its shit
right before a tackle press X + Stick towards ur goal, then X + towards the player(its better to not use plain X all the time btw, its just hard sometimes)
much better tackling

i still find myself sometimes doin it the old way and then the problems come up

Oh and you guys surely can't have not noticed how easy it is for people to pass their way out of dangerous situations where they should have to be booting the ball away/out... Pisses me off when people do this, go on a counter attack and score, such bollocks.
Manual FIFA definitely does this better.

This method is faulty. Air balls screw it up badly and it always seems confused with loose balls (switching you when you did not press the button). Pushing the button in the direction of the player has never worked for me, it auto switches to who it THINKS is in the best position to get the ball (it is often wrong in loose ball situations)

Switching issues aside, one tactic I have seen online is to play a series of 1-2 passes without completing the second pass. If done correctly, this results in 3 or 4 (sometimes even 5!) players running into the box at the same time. How would you stop that? You can't mark all of them, and using secondary press would break the back line and most likely end up in a goal. Any of you veterans know of a way to stop this tactic?

I've had some horrid matches this weekend for pressuring too, including some against somebody in one of my communities, who chooses teams of the same level as me but uses a 4-3-3 every time and sprint presses everyone, including the keeper. He's actually a bit craftier than just sprint pressing, as he mixes it up with sprinting to cover passing lanes, kind of acting as if he's about to press you and then swerving to one side.

I did find that playing with a higher line and playing the longer game worked well, as did being bolder with dribbling and trying to delay passes every now and then so he just sprinted/slid past. 4-2-2-2 against 4-3-3 is pretty effective, giving me good coverage of the pitch and boxing in their midfield.

Eventually PSG had Marseilles in their pocket - they've got a massive front line who can head down longer balls, and a good blend of pace and skill to pick from on the bench. I'm already a fan of Erding and the centre midfield pairing of Makelele and Bodmer. Sessegnon is utterly dreamy.

I am seeing some stuff that baffles me (quite often I press pass to knock a loose ball back to the keeper but the defender ignores it and I have to press it again once I've realised, which can be when I'm in the shiz - does that happen to anyone else?), but those games where you do manage to outplay a dirty cheeser are glorious.
