PES 2011 Discussion thread

Really condescending considering that he was talking to somebody who has played the full game for about 12 hours in two days and he has only played the demo. :CONFUSE:

Then again i'll let him be because i refuted a lot of problems people were having as probably wrong until i played the game and realised them myself.

Oh FFS. I should have kept my mouth shut!

I don't have the game but I'm really interested to see what people think about it. Till I have it on wednesday then I really couldn't give a fuck.

Had the most relieving match of football in years last night before I toddled off to bed.

Spurs away at Lyon in the Champo. Van der Vaart & Bale were out injured, and I had Woodgate go off early in the match. I had 10 minutes of great chances in the first half, poor finishing apart from their keeper knocking a free-kick onto the post, across goal and out. For the rest of the first half, I was seriously thinking, "Has Top Player got fucking harder in the full game?". A comment more likely to be thought in the early stages of playing a shiny new thing.

Couldn't get a shot in, as every time I got the ball to Pavlyuchenko or SPM (Shouty Pointy Man), I was hounded off the ball by 2 or more defenders closing in. Gio Dos Santos on the left wing was having no joy, he's too weak. Wicked'Blud Lennon on the right couldn't get past a second defender when on a run.

Half-time, I felt I would leave the tactics for a bit and see what happens. In the 50th and 56th minutes, Lyon goals - but both offside and rightly ruled out! It's safe to say the pants were damp. 70th minute, I bring Gio off, whack Bentley on the left for shits & giggles, change my team to be less out-wide, more narrow and soak up a bit more pressure by solely counter-attacking.

In the 80th minute, Kallstrom hits the bar with a volley following a corner clearance. Ederson was through on-goal a minute later but Gomes saved well. I was slowly getting more space however, and his kick out to the left wing was headed down by Pavlyuchenko to Bentley, who managed to get 20 yards out on the left, cuts inside, plays to SPM. I let it run through his legs, he collects it, does a fake shot, a little shimmy to the right for better shot stance and cracks it into the top right from 18 yards.

Looked at the goal time - 90:34! I immediately took off SPM to an imaginary ovation and shoved Kaboul in as a fifth defender. Won the game a minute later, they managed a corner that Gomes came for and punched out. Felt really good.

Does anyone know if it is possible to alter tactics for individual players? For example if I want my full backs to hold their position and not go bombing forward? A few people have already mentioned it, but the full backs tend to go wandering - I've seen Glen Johnson playing centre forward a couple of times in the first half of a game!

I remember the old Pro Evo's used to have the arrow system for individual players - doesn't seem to be in this time - any way around it?

Also is it possible to turn off player cards when we want? E.g. A striker may have the "Dummy Run" card - is it possible to turn it off because I don't want him making dummy runs?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks guys!

Glad im not the only one experiencing this! It doesnt matter what you set your tactics to, they still do it. I was playing as Everton vs Man Utd at Old Trafford defending a 1-0 late after 80 mins so I set Player Support to 0 and Defensive Line very deep but still Baines was always standing upfront on his own.

Typical Konami taking out the individul settings where you could set a player as Offensive, Defensive or Balanced

The only way to do this is to now go to Edit mode, then Player Edit, choose your chap and select their Player Index, to alter their perks, so to speak. They removed the option to fiddle with cards in pre-match game-planning this year, so all card editing is done in Edit mode.

i've switched to playing with 4 cbs now, compactness put right up, only way to solve it that i've found.

now just trying to work out how to stop my cf dropping into midfield and my amc playing upfront.

this might be a case of having to tinker with settings etc....but i dont see why it should ever be. its gone from the demo and thte fbs never getting forward, to them bombing through the centre of the pitch.

Gerd, the DLC is out on Tuesday (roster updates, Messi wallpapers).

What is the attack/defensive awareness, that all players have? And how do you turn them on/off individually?

Really loving the passes/crosses in this game, particularly into space.

Yeah the CF dropping back is another one, even when he is pushed as far up the pitch as possible in the tactics. Also, have you worked out how to keep the wingers out wide? When the full back (Simpson for Newcastle) has the ball, Routledge keeps cutting inside instead of getting down the wing even if I set the Attacking Style to Wide in the Team Style settings!

right now i have the 4 cbs, then i've got my 2 wide men (bale and lennon) set as wbs, thats working very well four me. nice backline and those 2 are getting paint on there boots. the cf thing is pissing me off though, i only play with 1 up top, so having him drop back all the time really makes counter attacking a bitch.

Well... tonight I played as Napoli v Udinese, and it was the most boring football match I've ever seen - like some sort of parody of a bad Serie A game. Won 1-0 with an early 25-yard rocket from Marek Hamsik, which was the only highlight. I was away from home, so I altered the playing style to drop very deep and defend... and the AI had nothing. Good fun, because I like this sort of thing in computer games (if you never get matches like this, it's not a good football sim) but quite a grind, especially as I play 30 minute games.

Then I was Monaco at home to PSG, and got humped 3-1. Park Chu-Young put in the most anonymous performance I've ever seen from a centre forward, and most of the game was spent watching the ball bounce off crowds of computer-controlled zombies who seemed to have forgotten they were supposed to be playing football. Really shockingly poor play from both sides, and frustrating for me because it wasn't the sort of poor play you might see in an actual match, it looked like silly computer game crapness. Ridiculous inertia on the players, strange movements by the players I wasn't controlling, lousy reactions, millions of through balls rolling past the brainless backline, who then turn and save the day with some artificially turbo-charged tracking back, utterly laughable "collisions" (and even worse collision animations), passes and shots spooning off at an angle which bears no resemblance to the player's body shape. All the stuff that's bad in this game writ large. Stadium looked nice, mind.

So I resorted to playing as Barcelona, and it started to look like football again. I mean it REALLY started to look like football - proper Barcelona-style football. This was the first game I've played where I got that old PES "wow" feeling, just a shame I had to play as the best team in the world to get it. I put the other controller on Coach Mode and set up Milan to sit very deep and play quick balls out for Robinho on the counter, and sure enough the whole game was about me trying to break them down, then every five minutes Pique having to dash out to usher Robinho off the ball then stride forward to start up the passing again. I'd set Barca to play very close together, and luckily they all have good enough first touch to do that interpassing in tight spaces (tried the same thing with Napoli and the result looked like throwing a football at a wall). Managed to get Messi going properly. Xavi made two goals by playing PRECISELY the pass I intended. All good stuff.

In short... I think I'm too crap to enjoy this game properly yet. When I get good enough to play as an "ordinary" team as naturally as I can with Barcelona - by which I mean getting the players to do what I ask them, not necessarily playing Barca-like football - then I'll be happy. Until then, I'm still finding it frustrating.

Said it before and I'll say it again, it's no wonder most of the world prefers FIFA, which is so smooth and beautiful and satisfying... until you realise it has the depth of a poppadom, but most people never do because most people aren't as crazily hardcore about football gaming as some of us here. The problem with this version of PES is that its faults are at their most obvious when you're playing badly. And this is probably the easiest version of PES to play badly. You really do have to stick with it, and unless you've got the faith to do that, you'll see it at its worst. No wonder it got so many low-score reviews, and no wonder there are so many people in damp corners of the internet saying "LOL i played pes demo an its SHIT, fifa rulez". If you look at it from the point of view of a casual gamer, they've got a point.

In summary, thats what I love about this game the most. If you dont play well, then you get nothing for the most part. If I play bad, I know 100% that all down to me and only me. Likewise if I produce moments of passing genius, then it's all me. The same goes for online play against randoms, you get what you deserve, and I wouldnt have it any other way. I played some really good players last night before I went to bed, I won 2 and drew the other. I have never felt so rewarded in PES ever, I played a blinder, dug deep, and got my just deserts. No glitching, nothing cheap, just pure undiluted football, fantastic.

And Zee, dont you be worrying about a thing bud, in my opinion, this is a different game again from the demo, and much better for it, everywhere. :)

Has anyone here ever not received there order on time from shopto? My sister got an email sayin they shipped the game on Weds morning so it would of got to her house the next day.. It's now Saturday and nothing.. What makes it worse is the fact that she has got to ship it to me in Florida when she gets it.. So its still gonna take another 7-10 days..
So what does she do now? She sent an email so hopefully they'll come back but this sucks dick! Has to happen to me, always fuckin does!!

I've ordered from Shopto on Thursday morning and got the disc with Friday morning post. I was very impressed!

Been playing this all week and its a big improvement on 2010. Couple of things that really annoy me though.

2. Wingers not getting forward. They always seem to drop behind the fullback when you have the ball, even with Player Support set to 15-20.

These issues are slightly spoiling a really good game for me at the moment.

I discovered this and its no longer a problem:

Is the clock in Master League Online working?

I went to enter a competition at 3.30pm yesterday but it said the room was closed. I tried to enter another one 15 mins later and the same thing happened.

This is what I keep asking, I'm not sure if the Comp times are UK times or European ? I can never seem to get in, or get the right time. :CONFUSE:

Mates i dont know but its really upseting me its that the scores in the game are very unrealistic - On PC version i was playing in ML with Palermo against Juventus and won 8-2.. But i have a question, maybe thats because of the time i set - 30min? Maybe i should play on like 10-15 min ?

:APPLAUD: thats much.. top player ? does that happen most of your game mate ?

Since it is "actually" a game without goal restriction but limited ai coding i presume, its realistic in terms of gaming point of view if you know what i mean :CONFUSE:

Usually, the longer you set the duration, the harder it is to score than it would be if you set the game to five minutes.

However, 30 mins is a crazy long time.... Think how long it takes a player to run from one end of the pitch to another in real life and how long it takes in PES. In terms of scaling, 8-2 seems near about appropriate

It's way back in Edit mode, in the Basic Settings page for individual players. They're well hidden, although with all the improvements to the game this year, changing say, Van Der Vaart from Semi-Attack to Attack makes far more difference than it normally would. Did it in my last batch of games and got a few headers and a tap-in from him over the course of 4 games due to his better positioning.

Erm, what?

Go to the edit menu, edit player, and there's an option there to change the player to offensive, defensive or balanced!

I can't win on MLO.

People just play bullshit football, just spamming through ball with no thought and it's practically impossible to intercept...

Reset my team, gonna start from scratch.

Why is it crazy? Since yesterday I also play with 30 minutes and it's imho great, now I can play it like reallife without the time-pressure. I had expected high score-results, but I managed only a 3:2, so all is good.

Let's not get into an argument about this :))

I still stand by my points about not being able to use speed to beat a man effectively but that's not because of the speed as much as it is not being able to hold off defenders when you have the ball and are in front of the defender.

Basically speaking you know in real football when a winger tries to get past a sideback so in doing so physically uses their body to get past. This doesn't happen in PES. Your winger will get tackled/outmuscled/pushed over/stumble with the sam animation because they won't automatically try to hold off the oncoming defender. It's not exclusive to the wing either but it's probably a place where creating space by pushing the ball and getting behind the defender happens mainly.

I like this most of the time because it means the game doesn't turn into a sprinting contest but it is frustrating.

Perhaps it's just me but don't you find basically all the space you create comes from triangle passing across the pitch rather than beating players?

Takes time to get used to the shit players, just play defensive and sit in front of the goal! Pretty effective, i don't get done by through balls online anymore :)

Convert the Full backs to Centre backs helps!

15-20 mintues is best suited for the game

30 mintues is too long, in regards that you would never finish a season in ML

Yea, basically, as soon as you receive the ball you are thinking, 'In a couple of seconds I am going to have to pass this or I will be harassed/dispossessed'. It's not too bad, but I don't believe it resembles real football in this respect and it is not particularly relaxing.

Also, Jimmy, I'm surprised you think that tackling in the retail release is as good as the demo. You do seem to make an unreasonably-great effort to put a positive spin on everything.

I understand that you mean you feel under pressure from players online, as most people are super aggressive in the way they play compared to CPU.

However I had to have a bit of a chuckle/laugh. Sports games in general are NOT relaxing - while not as twitch based as a FPS (First Person Shooter), the very nature of quick thinking and the need to always react, can make a sports game stressful - if that's the right word.
