PES 2011 Discussion thread

Been playing this all week and its a big improvement on 2010. Couple of things that really annoy me though.

1. Players constantly wandering offside and just standing there. By the time they get back onside you get tackled and lose the ball.

2. Wingers not getting forward. They always seem to drop behind the fullback when you have the ball, even with Player Support set to 15-20.

3. Players in the wrong position. A few games now I have noticed its always the left back out of position. Played and Newcastle and Everton and each time both Enrique and Baines were upfront in the centre of the pitch furthest forward. Same thing happens with Chelsea and Ashley Cole. Maybe its a problem with the game as it always seems to be the left back wandering?

4. Players standing in groups of 3 or 4 and not spreading around, even when the tactics are set for them to be more spread apart.

5. Fouls. When playing against the CPU they seem to pull you back and kick from behind with no free kick ever given against them If you so much as fart on one of their players, the ref blow straight away.

These issues are slightly spoiling a really good game for me at the moment.

finally getting into it

2 things though

how do you use say the offside trap

i think i used to activate it, using r2 and triangle

and online the lobby

how do you know whos good connection (think it used to be a green light now all i see is blue boots)

Does anybody else suffer from a lot of stutter online (XBOX 360)? It stutters for me many times per match. By stutter I mean like slowdown, as though the CPU/GPU can't keep up.

I have the feeling that it is machine-specific. I have it installed on the hard-drive - maybe this causes the stutter. Let me know if you guys suffer from this also!

Cheers,

Houldey

Has anyone here ever not received there order on time from shopto? My sister got an email sayin they shipped the game on Weds morning so it would of got to her house the next day.. It's now Saturday and nothing.. What makes it worse is the fact that she has got to ship it to me in Florida when she gets it.. So its still gonna take another 7-10 days..
So what does she do now? She sent an email so hopefully they'll come back but this sucks dick! Has to happen to me, always fuckin does!!

think i found a bug in the edit mode,im up to 275 kit pngs copied across but every time i try to add another png it double copies to the front and back of the kit im copying it to and it then also copies to the back of every other teams kit in the game, very weird ive to keep checking now to see if every kit png i add from 275 upwards doesnt fuck up the game

there were in other league A over the other unlicenced european teams that konami must have left from pes 2010 to pes 2011

the optionfile is coming along pretty quickly, ive done all kit s for all teams bar 22 which il get round to tonight. id say it could be ready for chimps by next weekend,im not touching the players until after the konami update ,if they fuck it up again with defaulting everythimg il quit

I have been playing a few games today and see room for improvement that I reckon can be done easily and shouldn't take anywhere near as much time as it did last year.

If they loose the changes with updates this year, thats it.

I played some games between good teams and they were played well, but step outside of that and play a game with good team against a medium team and you have them all over for 90 minutes and keep them in their half.

Thats what I will try to sort out, plus trying to make good teams harder to play against and a lot more players capable of taking you apart and worth buying in the master league

Use select and the corresponding buttons for the strategies.

Torres and Gerrard are uter trash in this game. Neither have any pace. Playing Helsinki (yes that kak side) and Gerrard cant get away from any of their players.

Torres shoot like an amateur too. kuyt and Poulson are far more effective players.

this game is up and down for me.

Well Torres scored me a hat trick not too long ago, so I'd say he's good enough, Gerard however isn't so fast on the ball so it's challenging.

yeah the thing with the full backs is starting to piss me off as well, they cut indside and make runs up front with certain combinations of tactics and formations. now i've just settled for playing with 4 cbs, cause i've spent about a week trying to find a solution with no avail.

Dryzer again man, not being patronising but it takes time to actually dribble and use your pace

You seen my dribbling video man? I beat 3 players in 1 dribble with him.

Key to it is not holding the left stick so much or playing it even like the old pes games

Great points, especially the foul thing, since it gives the CPU an edge although to be fair you can still break a few legs and escape any punishment. Midfield play is especially frustrating when players congest; a shame some of the team default tactics make passing around near damn impossible without butting in.

Correct me if I'm wrong mate, but wasn't that footage from the demo? It's a lot different now (at least on the PC).

These are the same "issues" that I've been bitching about for the past week. I've now played over 70 games and put over 25 hours into it. The issues don't disappear, I just get more tolerant of them.

For me, PES 2011 falls just short of brilliance, but it's a defining moment for the series. Let's hope next year's iteration will improve the shortcomings.

Correct, the shooting is a shame! Its like you kick a 10tons iron-ball, in the next moment its like a rocket(direct shoot)! After Playing now 60games the first aha effect has been lost. Not so good game as it looks like the first 10 matches. Especially the CPU makes me laugh (klose scores from 40 m with a super shoot, against chech).
But to be fair, i have also FiFa11 and its also the same thing, too much realism, kills the fun!!

I'm really loving the game when it's on normal speed, but when the game chooses to automatically alter the speed setting, although you're still playing on 0, so that the game looks like some extremely arcadey stuff from the 90ies, that's ruining the game for me. Damnit, damnit. No one else noticed this?

Croatia (me) v Turkey, 90th minute 1-0 down after dominating the game, Olic gets into the box, skips past one defender, turns another who then brings him down, PEN! Srna steps up and smacks it into the bottom corner to equalise with one of the last kicks of the game! (best pen I've taken yet :))))...

Brilliant moment :D FIFA just doesn't feel the same when the above happens...

Edit - Why can't you back out of an online game on the team select/tactics screen?... I don't want to play against Barca/Spain as it's ridiculously easy for them... Have to go back to the dashboard and boot the game up again, pain in the arse. Or just play the match and get raped by someone who is shit and thinks they're great...

Edit 2 - Actually, doing the above counts as a 3-0 loss, fucking bullshit!

That'll usually happen when it's towards the end of a half or when there are many high agility players on the pitch. The game will play more slowly when it's a match between Stoke City and Chelsea, and more quickly when it's Liverpool and Arsenal. People who play Barcelona will notice that the game is very quick because of Messi and Iniesta's high agility stats.

Wow. Talk about condescending.:TTTH:

Really condescending considering that he was talking to somebody who has played the full game for about 12 hours in two days and he has only played the demo. :CONFUSE:

Then again i'll let him be because i refuted a lot of problems people were having as probably wrong until i played the game and realised them myself.

Shooting is really doing my head in now. Too floaty.

I'd say there's a truth to this but it's specific to location of shot. For instance if you run in from the edge of the box at a certain angle and shoot across the goal it basically makes the ball float over the GK in a weird chip shot kind of way but the GK doesn't seem to have an animation to deal with the shot so he jumps with both his arms stretched out in a parallel motion every time but doesn't reach it.

I've had this happen 2/3 times now where it's resulted in a goal for me.

I was considering capturing a video of it earlier but didn't know if it was just me having the issue.

I've nailed shooting, passing, the pace, dribbling, sprinting, body feints (and right stick only "tricks), defending... Pretty much everything :)

It's all so rewarding. Awesome feeling. Feels like I'm playing the PES of old.

Move him earlier Pepper, as soon as the ball gets kicked. Don't wait til it gets to your player to move.

Yup Lami, i found something interesting when heading from goalkick for example.

In 2010 = it easy to "deattach" your player using L2, even we are at the back iirc

In 2011 = yes, you may deattach, but most of the time not if the opponent is in "shielding" position against you.

I guess seabass and co. try to capture it from what happen from the real field. I mean if look at this situation on TV, the player's on the back side is hardly to move, isnt it.

But yeah not 100% perfect in terms of animation, etc but i guess the initial idea is there..

Desperation...
I always played with the Broadcast camera but this year iz virtually unplayable, it is toooo close and the others dont let you see the stadium which makes useless the stadium editor...WTH! Konami just gives 1 option for the camera!!!!! JC! I cant play.......

Lami,

Thanks for looking into the strange squad rosters.
I tried to import prequel data from PES2010, but i thought it didn't worked bacause not even the correct team names were imported. That was because i had a French version last year and a UK version of PES2011. This must have fucked things up (example: i have Klasnic in the Bolton squad).

But i have other strange things happening, i downloaded the DLC and i don't see any difference. My son is a Messi fan and i wanted to install one of the new wallpapers for him, i don't have them...

Dryzer, i don't want to be disprespectfull but why don't you play the gam for a couple of days and then give your impressions. It just seems that you play one or two games and then come posting new impressions. I can understand that people don't like the game, in fact there are some annoying things...but i have the impression that you need a prolonged session to sort out your mixed impressions.
I started a league campaign with Sunderland and i am thouroughly enjoying it. Henderson is a very good player. Last match i played was at Fulham and i struggled but did not concede goals. In injury time Henderson made a cross and Zenden scored with a good header...last minute victory and a huge satisfaction.

Well... tonight I played as Napoli v Udinese, and it was the most boring football match I've ever seen - like some sort of parody of a bad Serie A game. Won 1-0 with an early 25-yard rocket from Marek Hamsik, which was the only highlight. I was away from home, so I altered the playing style to drop very deep and defend... and the AI had nothing. Good fun, because I like this sort of thing in computer games (if you never get matches like this, it's not a good football sim) but quite a grind, especially as I play 30 minute games.

Then I was Monaco at home to PSG, and got humped 3-1. Park Chu-Young put in the most anonymous performance I've ever seen from a centre forward, and most of the game was spent watching the ball bounce off crowds of computer-controlled zombies who seemed to have forgotten they were supposed to be playing football. Really shockingly poor play from both sides, and frustrating for me because it wasn't the sort of poor play you might see in an actual match, it looked like silly computer game crapness. Ridiculous inertia on the players, strange movements by the players I wasn't controlling, lousy reactions, millions of through balls rolling past the brainless backline, who then turn and save the day with some artificially turbo-charged tracking back, utterly laughable "collisions" (and even worse collision animations), passes and shots spooning off at an angle which bears no resemblance to the player's body shape. All the stuff that's bad in this game writ large. Stadium looked nice, mind.

So I resorted to playing as Barcelona, and it started to look like football again. I mean it REALLY started to look like football - proper Barcelona-style football. This was the first game I've played where I got that old PES "wow" feeling, just a shame I had to play as the best team in the world to get it. I put the other controller on Coach Mode and set up Milan to sit very deep and play quick balls out for Robinho on the counter, and sure enough the whole game was about me trying to break them down, then every five minutes Pique having to dash out to usher Robinho off the ball then stride forward to start up the passing again. I'd set Barca to play very close together, and luckily they all have good enough first touch to do that interpassing in tight spaces (tried the same thing with Napoli and the result looked like throwing a football at a wall). Managed to get Messi going properly. Xavi made two goals by playing PRECISELY the pass I intended. All good stuff.

In short... I think I'm too crap to enjoy this game properly yet. When I get good enough to play as an "ordinary" team as naturally as I can with Barcelona - by which I mean getting the players to do what I ask them, not necessarily playing Barca-like football - then I'll be happy. Until then, I'm still finding it frustrating.

Said it before and I'll say it again, it's no wonder most of the world prefers FIFA, which is so smooth and beautiful and satisfying... until you realise it has the depth of a poppadom, but most people never do because most people aren't as crazily hardcore about football gaming as some of us here. The problem with this version of PES is that its faults are at their most obvious when you're playing badly. And this is probably the easiest version of PES to play badly. You really do have to stick with it, and unless you've got the faith to do that, you'll see it at its worst. No wonder it got so many low-score reviews, and no wonder there are so many people in damp corners of the internet saying "LOL i played pes demo an its SHIT, fifa rulez". If you look at it from the point of view of a casual gamer, they've got a point.
