PES 2011 Discussion thread

just conceded from 2, yes 2, scripted freekicks although I dominated the game, wtf, seriously KONAMI needed to be smacked on their heads, restart the game engine from scratch or they'll sinking even deeper!

a few tips for all u guys who have trouble with concededing goals the freekicks

1, make everybody jump in the wall

2 switch 2 keeper, move him more 2 left/right (depends on postion free kick)

3, switch 2 keeper and make the save urself (expert only)

give it a try and u will notice the difference

Ok someone else...I posted the same thing on PesFan earlier today. I completely agree with this - the full game does not feel right.

I've been playing it pretty much non-stop since Thursday morning (40+ games) and I can't get in to it; it feels a lot more rigid than the demo, fouls seem far more inconsistent, player switching is worse & the collision system seems a bit of a mess. I get crosses go in to the box and I seem to have no control over the players waiting in the middle, in the midfield the ball bounces around like PES 2010...the only positive thing is I feel the shooting is a bit tighter & obviously the choice of game modes are excellent.

I played the demo for 3 weeks solid and absolutely loved it - I was so excited about the full release but I now feel really disappointed. I decided to give the demo another go this morning just to check I wasn't going mad, with Barca v Bayern, then went back and played exactly the same fixture on the full version and I'm now positive I'm right...the demo feels so much smoother, I honestly don't know what's happened to the code since, it's such a shame.

I'm going to keep playing and hope it clicks but at the moment I'm really confused - hardly anyone else has mentioned this across all the regular PES forums, so maybe it is just me (and a few others)! :)

What platform are you playing it on?

lol

played MLO against some guy 1:1...
he had 550 points and i had 501.

He went up to 561 and I was on 488 now lolololol

Nice system konami!!!!

Just had a random friendly online, the lag was terrible and what's up with the player switching. I t was going crazy. Master league online was much better lastnight.

Maybe the system also takes into account how good both your teams are. If you play a Barcelona-quality team and your opponent has just the default team, his result is probably worth more ...

Curiously, does anybody think this deserves more than 7/10?

http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/842755-games-review-pro-evolution-soccer-2011-strikes-back

This review seems pretty much to fall in line with how i've experienced the game thus far.

Two are my main issues with this game are the woefully inadequate GK animations which make it feel like you concede or score at times due to the fact the GK didn't have an animation to react to your shot properly or the AWFUL collision system which as well as other things makes players fall over after every slide tackle or stumble in the same way unresponsive way each time. I enjoy the game but i can still see the technical problems that hold it back.

The metro is not worth the toilet paper it is printed on

As with music, it's v difficult to spend a day with a game before one can confirm that it is good or not. FIFA is great when you first play it - but after a while, when you reach the deeper aspects, you realise there isn't much there.

I would suggest spending more time with PES - perhaps going online and playing a bit more

I got the game yesterday.

Mainly played online as I doubt a really good option file will be available yet (360 version).

I love and hate the game in equal measure - and that's why I love it... I am conceding stupid goals, screwing things up all over the place and not winning many games, but it's been my fault almost every time, nothing to blame but myself! That's very frustrating, but also very satisfying to know that in future I could prevent it (unlike FIFA's cheap tactics).

Anyway, can't be bothered to post all of my impressions yet, off to play the game :D.

Question for those who have the game. I remember reading a preview and it said and I quote, "any editing done in PES 2010 can be imported with the 'import prequel data,' which will save time for those that like to put a lot of manual work in."

What exactly can be imported? Is it just player stats?

Far more. It is also better than the buggy FIFA 11, so I guess a 8.5 is a good score.

I agree, 8.5 is my score. 9 is exaggerated. But less than 8 is unfair...
It depends of personal point of view, since FIFA 11 gets 9's everywhere, and that game deserves an 8 being nice ^^

That's actually a decent review by GameCentral standards. Could any of us really disagree with the opening sentence in particular?

The Metro paper's game section is a transplanted GameCentral from Channel 4 teletext. They moved over after teletext closed down.

Their reviews are peculiar in the games world because they give 'realistic' scores (i.e. 5/10 would denote an average game, not a bad game, and a 7/10 is not average at all but pretty good, roughly the same as an 8/10 from other places).

Also, as they would freely acknowledge themselves, they're not big on sports games, particularly football games.

The Metro is a strange final resting place for GC to end up in - a bit like suddenly finding the Times Literary Supplement in The Sun - but they've kept their editorial stance going.

I don't think 7/10 reflects the tone of the review at all. They basically list all of the negatives and then throw in a 7/10 at the end. It's not so much a review but more of a preview where they list all that's wrong and then move onto something else.

Gerd,

I was reading your posts about weird players like shelden in the English team. I've checked mine and he's not in.
Also checked the German national team and the WC squad is all in.

You must've done something wrong? Have you loaded PES 2010 data?

No player stats. Just team line-ups, and kits/emblems.

7/10 is what I would rate the game at. It is a good game but there are many things wrong with it, I feel like throwing my controller through the TV at times. The player switching is massively flawed when playing manual passes and whats with your player running in a arc to get on the ball?
After 2 days of play I'm not sure if I will be able to play it for a year, it really winds me up at times.

Anyone played online against someone from your own country? I never have and while the lag doesn't make it unplayable, its pretty close at times. Also getting fed up with people just running into me and taking the ball.

I was going to wait until xmas to get Gran Turismo 5 but I am really looking forward to the release day now.

Urgh, pisses me off when people just mash the short pass button to get out of tight/dangerous situations at the back. It's not quite assisted FIFA bad, but manual FIFA certainly made doing it a very risky business...

Also struggling to defend people who spam short passes and through balls, as I said, probably my fault but it still seems a bit too difficult to defend that sort of football.

Also, pressuring seems to have been made way more effective/easy since the demo, which I don't like... Again, still nothing like as bad as FIFA in this respect.

Overall, really enjoying it though.

Can anyone help with first time shooting and passing. More often than not it results in a weird floaty pass or shot that lands about 2 feet away. Haha. Any ideas? Is it all about timing, or is there a little secret to it? Cheers.

secret is free space, I think.

If you have free space shoot; if there are opponents near you shots will often go wide or too high.

It's all about timing and position of the player. For example, if you do a square pass and the player is running on to it, just tapping the shoot button would send a rocket towards the goal. If he's facing away from goal or some other weird direction and you try to do a first time shot, it will go all floaty. It's pretty realistic in that aspect, as now you have to take into account the player's position, timing, and stronger foot.

That is true. You can see the difference in shooting in the training mode when it's 11 of you v the GK. Finesse shooting in the training mode shows how good it can be.

It does highlight one flaw with the game in that it's really hard to create space for yourself for those shots though. Close control dribbling gets you out of tight situations but it hardly creates space. That's about the only option so far i can see in the game. There's no push the ball system like in PES 5 to create space and push it past a defender whilst being able to hold him off.

The collision system is just whack from what i've seen and that stops a lot of ability to create free space. There's a lot of constant pressure and tackles which reminds me more of Fifa 10 than Pro Evo. There's no need to time tackles any more really as opposed to just spamming the conservative tackle button, it's so un pro evo like. This too does unfortunately lead to that annoying way you get tackled and then your player appears paralysed for a moment whilst he stumbles.

Yet another reason you can't create much space is because whilst with the ball you cannot hold off a defender. He'll come in from the side and tackle you more often than not because he hasn't had to time anything and you cannot hold him off.

Take for instance when you get given an offside. Very rarely will the last scene before the freekick be one where your player is miles ahead of the defenders with the ball. He'll most likely have been beaten to the ball already or have been tackled off the ball despite having been in a small amount of space.

There are very few one on one scenarios in this game for numerous reasons but they all lead to the same reason, you can't create space. The only times i get one v ones is in those far incidences where i see my player sprinting forward and play a through ball to him where by he is then in tons of space and can finish the way players can in the training mode. I don't know what to think about these though because on the one hand it looks nice but it seems quite an exploit because the defence seems helpless to react.

My two cents anyway.

funny thing is all the south american teams i made in pes 2010 have come over stats and all so ive now 2 corinthians, banfield palmeiras and estudiantes. all of the players now can be used in the ML im chuffed

Well been playing this last night, all day today.

My Impressions:

Firstly, it's not in my opinion better than Fifa. Its different but not better. However it has restored a bit of my faith in Konami, that they can push on from here, because theres some brilliance in there, sadly let down by some let down bits.

Firstly the things i love.

1. The broadcast cam i have adpated too. Its not the most forgiving in terms of the animations but i've grown to like it even though i miss the original tv style.

2. The player models are sound, and the graphics in general are really nice.

3. Some of the moves you can pull off are lovely and do reflect the realness of football

4. Replays are lovely with the blur effect.

Things i dont like:

1. Ball physics need work. Its far too scripted looking, especially when you shoot. Most of the time the ball leaves your foot at a decent speeds then suddenly slows down, not gradually slows down, gives it an artificial feel.

2. Movement. Your player a.i is still disappointing. Its very rigid an unorganic compared to fifa for me.

3. Animations. Some look superb others look awkward and dont match the action. they need to link more smoothly

Like the review, its a 7 for me whilst i'd rate fifa at 8.5. So theres a good, playable game there, let down with some issues that to me give the impression your not always in control, but i can see how some people would prefer this to Fifa.

The national squads are ripped from players in ML. You can only buy around 5 players from Costa Rica. Should have been at least 15-20 players. Does this have anything to do with licence, like Copa Libertadores. I feels like the game is cut in two, sadly.

I'm going to look into this, from what i've seen online, just trying to exploit your opponent's weaknesses gives you space! I mean, i can see where your coming from because most matches are very crowded when using default tactics but play around with them and see if you can actually get that space you want!

Please can someone explain how to take a part in competition in MLO? It always is full, and what about time, there are hours but do u have to try much earlyier and play 3 matechs and then when it starts the game calls u, how is it ? can someone discribe all the process from the beginning to the same end please earining money in quick matches takes ages !

There's a little too much 'luck' online from what i've seen, but that's just after one days play. I don't have any issues with pressure, i like playing vs those players, it's easy to pass round them. Best thing to do is not hold the L3 button constantly like you used to with the d-pad on all other football game. When you get the ball just hold R2 and set yourself :)

I like and i don't mind the collision system but i does need work and it's pretty 'off' at times, animation wise in terms of animation not matching trajectory, is mainly manual lobs, which you could boot it 70 yards with no run up :CONFUSE: Even scored a goal from this!
