PES 2011 Discussion thread

Apologies if this has been answered (it no doubt has been, considering the page count), but what's the general consensus on XB360 or PS3?

I'm presuming the PS3 will allow better editing input (via the USB), but the 360's controller is possibly better to play the game with?

Comments appreciated, as the only thing I'm unsure about is the format I'll be purchasing for.

I personally would definately go for the PS3 version for the vast amount of option files and chant packs that are available. In saying that, I prefer the Xbox pad for the analogue stick, it's much better for me personally. I have a PS3/Xbox style pad though, so I have the best of both worlds. I really dont think there is much in the graphical side of it, and the bottomline for me personally, is that PES is at home on the Playstation.

If i remember well there is a way to import option files to Xbox without having problems with Xbox live...
Could anybody giver me some link to a manual or explanation about this?

Having played FIFA for 3 years i'm getting used to perfectly licensed teams...i'm a litle bit spoiled now.

So is this any good then?

Wasnt impressed by the demo. been looking around a few websites and the reviews are up and down. I tried to listen to the WENB review podcast but couldnt stomach all the foaming at the mouth by Adam, and i generally dont trust him to be objective anyway.

Thinking of picking it up on friday with a few trade ins, im always prepared to give it a shot.

As I've said before, best football game I've played. And I've been playing video games for a long, long time :)

How times have changed! And how peoples expectations have changed!

Ummm... ShopTo has just sent me an email saying my Pro Evo 2011 has shipped... It wasn't supposed to be released for a few more days yeah?

I actually bought two of them. One has shipped and the other is still on pre-order. Weird. Maybe they got a few and ran out...?

Anyone in UK got their copy, or a shipping email yet?

I'm in Australia (rung around - they're all importing it from UK over here, so I'm using the great exchange rate to get it cheaper) so I'll still get it after you guys.

Nope, still says it's on pre order :( I live in the UK and ordered it for PC btw.

Argghh snap! :)

The first game i remember smashing away at day after day was international football on c64 cartridge. thats the first proper footy game i reckon!

InternationalSoccer_Animation.gif

I vaguely remember that, although I think Microprose Soccer was my first game which I hammered :)

Still, PES 2011 is better than any other football game I've played. Definately on the pitch, although SWOS still wins for it's career mode vs ML :D

I have this ShopTo dilemma every single year, as there is a chance you will get it on the Wednesday, but more likely Thursday. I'll stick with my annual purchase from my local dealer though, as the post doesnt arrive at my house till 1pm anyway. I can get up early, get to my local dealer, and be home for 10am on Thursday morning. A quick :SMOKIN:, then let the games begin. :)

I really hope there is a Championship Option File available on release, or at least a couple of days after. I dont like starting an offline ML or BAL until the option file is in place. I did a trial ML last year with Stoke City whilst I awaited a Championship OF to start an ML with the Boro. If I remember correctly it was a couple of weeks before I got a decent Championship OF, I think this year will be alot quicker though.

Either way, it will be the MLO which I'll be getting stuck straight into, I loved the MLO Beta, and cant wait to get my teeth into this in the full retail. :WOOT:

Defense and goalkeeper AI looks terrible and shots look floaty. Why does the goal have no nets? Crowd looks awful, why cant they make it 3D?
Puts into perspective things people moan about these days I think.

Glad to see a few more advantages being played in the full game, I was a little worried when playing the demo. Still needs to have more though.

A couple were played in the last match I had, one where Milan Baros laid injured whilst his team-mates carried on and scored.

He got injured 3 times in that match, going off for treatment twice and still finished the match - with a hat-trick. Invincible!

ha! so true. but i remember being enthralled by that. Funny how things move on.

My post normally comes at midday aswell, but with living in Rothbury, the nearest games shop is 15 miles. And I'd have to pay for the bus. Hopefully it'll be sitting at home when I get back from college on Thursday, and I have every friday off so it'll be getting played a lot then. Probably be out drinking all day Saturday, so I'll have another long session Sunday :D

Hi friends.

Playing PES2011 for about 1 week.
I'm digesting it atm, but looks promising.

Loving that footy revival.. My first one, I can't remember the name, it was on Commodore C=16, even if my first love has been Emlyn Huges International soccer on C64.
My favourite was Kick Off2/GOAL! by Dino Dini on Amiga.
SWOS has been the best for the huge career mode.

i remember playing this game on atari day and night one thing that stands out is the crowd

Not that game you didnt, it was a Commodore 64 exclusive, which killed me as I had a Spectrum 48k and had to wait what seemed like an eternity for Emlyn Hughes International Soccer. :(

I covered this game in my article about football video game history.

Intellivison held the acclaimed mantle as producer of the most advanced soccer simulation for the next few years. It wasn’t until 1983, and a programmer named Andrew Spencer, created a football game that raised the benchmark to a whole new level. International Soccer for the Commodore 64 ruled the division for a further five years, and was practically untouchable. It was the first ever football game to offer a massive 9 computer skill levels, as well as the groundbreaking bouncing ball. International Soccer was a revelation, and conquered Europe like no football game had done before.

Much in the same way Xbox rivals PlayStation modern day, the Commodore 64 battled the ZX Spectrum in the 1980’s in similar fashion. ZX Spectrum owners cried out for football game to compete against International Soccer. When Arctic Software announced the imminent release of World Cup Soccer, expectations were very high. Unfortunately, the game proved to be very poor at best. It wasn’t until 1985, that Jon Ritman of Ocean Software answered the prayers of all the ZX Spectrum’s football fanatics, when he released the now legendary Match Day. This was the first football game to introduce the shot power bar, and although it couldn’t match the visuals of International Soccer, the Spectrum’s footballing fraternity welcomed it with euphoric adulation. Ritman followed up his success with Match Day 2 in 1987, only this time it was no longer a ZX Spectrum exclusive, as both Amstrad and Commodore 64 owners reaped the benefits of Ritman’s own unique interpretation of the Beautiful Game.

Twelve months down the line proved to be a landmark in football video game history, as Audiogentic released Emlyn Hughes International Soccer for both the Commodore 64 and the ZX Spectrum. This outstanding offering once again raised the bar to a whole new level and set the benchmark for any future game in its genre. The title itself was basically an updated version of Andrew Spencer’s highly acclaimed International Soccer, with added frames of animations to the player models, ensuring a much more polished and fluid experience. The menu system within the game defined the era, and the option of slide tackles, long and short passing combined with incredible shooting, gave the user more control than ever before. It was also to be the swansong football title for the 8-bit machines.

yep, still waiting for my confirmation from shopto.net as i cancelled my original ps3 pre-order made back in june last week for the xbox360 version, only to change my mind and cancel that to pre-order on the ps3 because i want the option file this week and prefer the looser sticks on the ps3,so im happy to take a small hit on the graphics although i prefer the motion blur effect on the ps3.

Stepped the game speed up to 1+ on the we eleven demo as i was starting to find at 0 the players turn speeds were sluggish and the game wasnt quite quick enough nor was the reaction of the players and switching to 1+ has just made it feel and play like a vastly superior game as the animation is smoother as is the quickness of the players reactions(im not getting players not reacting quickly to loose balls or sluggish to move forward with them now reacting perfectly to the speed of my play).

I now understand why konami dropped the -1 and -2 speeds from the final version as i personally think pes2011 is made to be played in the +1 setting with 0 being slow and +1 being normal.I wouldnt say the game is actually faster in 1+ as i can still slow and speed up the game to the tempo i like with my play,it just makes the turn speeds quicker and the games im having now are more edge of your seat when 0 can feel a bit of a chore and a bit more of a labour and im not finding my defenders letting balls walk into the goal for OGs..

Maybe this is why people are saying the final game is faster because konami realised the game and ai was working better and looking smoother in +1 in the demo(we2011)and opted for that as the default 0 speed in the final game.Only when i get the final game will my theory be validated.

Opus game, even off the back of a asian demo, just keeps getting better and better and when i look back to where i was 4 weeks ago to now,its almost like a different game.

For its time, Emlyns was a bench mark. Me and my mates played it every day - summer holidays would be day long Emlyn tournaments (until Sensi!).

If there were 3 of us (as there usually was), one would play the ref and have to decide on red/yellow cards. If someone got a red card, they had to be subbed off :)

It was from Emlyns that I grew up believing Cameroon was in Scotland for some time as they had a player called "Cameron".

I think Emlyns was the first game with slide tackles, standing and diving(crouching) headers and the like.

Kids now days dont know how good they've got it!

The speed thing is a bit annoying because the default in the demo is more or less perfect, so why the need to make it faster konami?

Any news of deals for Friday in the UK, some supermarkets offering it for cheap perhaps?

Talking about speed; some days ago I read overhere that the speed-settings in the retail version was without speed setting -2 and -1.
That is not true; I have the game ( since an hour ;) ) and you can choose the speed between -2 and +2 :BOP:

I have the Dutch/UK version for the Xbox 360.

It's the PC version that doesn't have -1 or -2, the consoles do.

My bad, didnt realise it was pc only that had the slower speeds dropped.

+1 for me then when i get the final game as i feel the game plays and looks so much better in this setting,i would say the game is less responsive and more sluggish in the 0 speed setting as are the player turns and movements, the timing is also better IMO in the 1+ speed setting(based on the we2011 demo).
