PES 2011 Discussion thread

Its actually getting really good reviews across the board from the global gaming press which im surprised about since I was expecting them to be overly harsh and critical of it. There have only been two 'bad' reviews. EDGE (but they have some of the worst reviews in the gaming media) and PlayTM which gave it also a 6.

Well one of these days i will have both games, although i was always more of a PES-lover.
I can't understand why people are critcising EA in here.
Konami and EA are in it for the money. And you win money with licenses. You can't blame EA for acquiring the licenses and having the better marketing department.

I like that PSM3 review. I had exactly the same feeling after playing the demo.

Oh and i'm gonna say something that i think i noticed about FIFA and PES lovers. I don't want to cause big discussion or harm.
I have the feeling that the hardcore gamers prefer FIFA and the football freaks prefer PES this year. I have the feeling that (roughly) the people that are to be found in the football related threads prefer PES this year and the people who play lots of games and are here to discuss games prefer FIFA. Could be only an impression...

The majority of the reviews offer nothing more than comedic value.

All the time you show us those kind ridiculous reviews. Fifa boy go to your thread.

Let's just ignore the negative reviews then, eh? As long as the positive stuff is posted, we're onto a winner. Jesus.

As for going back to the Fifa thread, I'm still following up with my purchase of PES next week as I have done every year since International Superstar Soccer on SNES. More to the point, don't tell me where I can and can't post. I'm a member on this site and have been for several years. If a moderator or admin have an issue - which they never have in my time here, then I will listen.

Some say you can only become stronger through negativity.

I disagree with that statement that I have bolded. I think that 90% of people here on Evo-Web are both football fanatics and gamers. I dont think you can divide them into sub-groups.

7/10 seems about right from what i've seen, but then again a 7 is a good critical score to me.

7/10 shouldn't inherently be a bad score but it is because the whole gaming review system is inept and hands out 8's and 9's like candy which forces 6's and 7's to look more like 3's and 4's. Honestly what kind of medium should deem 7 and 8/10 as not that good a score (basically 4/5). Only the gaming one.

Another thing about PES is that over the past few years the press have given PES lower scores so they have a safety cushion. They can keep the scores at that level (even with PES 2009 they didn't. They do the same with FIFA but the difference is that they originally rated fifa so highly now there's no going back. Fifa has recieved 9 and 10's in the past two years (criminally IMO) so reviewers can hardly say 'well FIFA 11 is better than Fifa 09 and Fifa 10 so we'll rate it lower'. They won't do it.

Plus with sports games the next game is rarely ever going to be worse than the previous game. So it gives further reason to always keep the bar at the same level. Look at how PES 2008 stayed really high despite everybody knowing it was rubbish, something only rectified with the scores of PES 2009.

That's quite logical since this a site about a football game. Nevertheless there are people you find more in the football threads and other more in the threads about all kind of games.

An example: you seldom see lo zio in threads like this one or threads about other games. Of course knowing Murphy's law, lo zio will post in this thread one of these days...:COOL:

Oh and this is no judgement about either "gamers" or "football freaks"...
It's only a silly opinion and not so important.

The thing is, you really do have to play these sort of games a hell of a lot to get into them fully. They've probably given them a serious amount of time, to be fair, but perhaps not enough to fully understand or get into them. I mean, they're reviewing and playing different games every day, so just sitting down with PES, or FIFA, for a long period of time like the general public and football fans do is not going to happen.

I played the PES demo and hated it after 3 or 4 games. However, the more you play it and understand it, the more it opens up and becomes very more-ish. I played quite a lot of WE10 last year, which I enjoyed once the option files were sorted. Reviewers don't tend to have this available, either, which I think makes the game so much better.

didn't edge give bayonetta a 10

what a turgid and repetive game that was

I hold Edge in high regard in general but it seems to me that these are going to be 2 reviews that i don't agree with. It's not the fact that they gave PES a 6. It's what they wrote and the way they did it.

I don't think that the argument of the option files is valable.
A game should be "ready" when it's sold.
PES is not the sort of game Litle Big Planet is.
I never understood why Konami did not do something creative with the things thez gaming community does.
I'm thinking of a special mode where you can create your own team with created players. If one gets a mximum amouint of "stats point" for the whole squad of the created team the competition could proceed like MLO. You could buy each other's players. That would be awesome IMO...

I agree with your original point, mate, but there are people that will always want to tinker and edit things, afterwards. The editor on Football Manager has always been a blessing. You're right though, the game should be released finished. But when you having licensing issues and can't even include the correct kits and names, you'll always want to edit them in so you have the correct level of authenticity. A decent option file goes a long way in making the game even better, IMO.

does anyone else think the logic level of people in the gaming community and industry has dropped since this generation? that edge review to me looks like its been written by a narrow minded snob and sorry for going off topic for a moment but there is a excellent title released next week called Enslaved, its getting great reviews yet the comment sections are shitting on it, "its not a uncharted, no buy" etc etc.

i seriously feel bewildered with the gaming community, you cant talk to people about things you like anymore without trolls, casual haters, casual ignorants, pricks, bellends, nobheads, fattys with a chip on their shoulder (no pun intended) and so forth. was anyone actually surprised by some of the critical remarks in the reviews? not anymore i'm not.

I think all reviews should be taken with a pinch of salt anyway. The reviewers are clearly giving their personal opinion, which could well - as is often the case - be different to that of your own. I think Dead Space got a score of around 45% from one media source. I loved the game. The guy reviewing obviously didn't enjoy that genre of game. I did. However, generally the reviews do give a good inclination of what to expect.

Agree with what you're saying though, it's not like it used to be.

Im my humble oppinion we shouldn't be focusing our talk in analizing the reviews but the game itself.

There's so much I would like to discuss and to launch a new target I would like to get a grip on the controls...I've heard someone pinpointing all the advantage of using the R2 for more focused control of the ball. Is anybody having issues with that? I'm beggining to use also L1 for a more subtle control of the player...is this happening to you too?

Fed up with PES online already, laggy as hell and I mean LAGGY and I have not in 12 matches encountered other teams then Barca or Real BAH!!!

Hey guy's.

Since the gameplay has been improved allot, is it now time to focus on little things, like weather? commentary? I hate those people who have been whining about gameplay all these years. now you have got it. So can we get all the other things as well for 2012?

I have no doubt that Seabass is the only one doing the gameplay, so is basically working that thing 24/7.

always been aware of this, its the opinion its the way its expressed. did you read what i said about enslaved? people are saying they wont be buying it because it looks a bit like uncharted but isnt. is that the best they can come up with in posting about the game? why should it be a deciding factor?

edge gave crackdown 2 a 8, fair enough thats someones opinion but from a 8 i expect a good quality product, not a half assed copy and paste job.

yeah dead space is awesome imo.

I'm playing Master League Online and did not see any remarkable lag. Some slowdowns but no significant lag issues.

I'm noticing lots of abusing tricks, with lots of pause times and some disconnecting after the first goal which leads to victory maintaining the acquired lead. I'm just not sure if it is the other player or if it was a server problem but the result was always a defeat and in crucial moments.

Add to the issue the thing that some videogame webs have became in some kind of haters of a particular game. I am calling specifically for Meristation, a spanish website. In the past these pricks gave those horrible FIFA games scores over 8 and now the gave FIFA 11 9 (when that game barely evolved from last year) and gave PES 7.5! saying the game is more or less the same as last year. Reviews like that cannot be taken seriously when have poor reasons to put the game down. Granted, PES 2011 is not perfect, but a 7.5 is a harsh score when the same reviewer gave FIFA 11 9 even realising that is flawed in a lot of places...

Thank God still some webs like Vandal reviewed the game like God says and stated something that Meristation should learn: "if somebody told you that this game is the salme as last year, he knows nothing about it or he is just lying." Then stated the game has flaws but it is a good return to form. I hate webs like Meristation, the reviewer has became in somthing like a hater of Konami, I honestly think that EA spreads some money there as well with other videogame places where reviews are taken place. Something like Konami did in PES 2008 which was a fucking disgrace!

Yeah and add to that that in the football virtual world the animations now seems to be the more important part of these games, even if the game is broken with stupid flaws!
