PES 2011 Discussion thread

I'm gonna avoid reading American reviews since I usually rage pretty hard. I still remember the awful ign.com review of Football Manager where the reviewer said he would've preferred if he could actually control and play the game.

That is simply not true and not very fair. I honestly couldnt care less what any review scores either game. The only opinion that matters to me is my own. End of story.

I said everyone, which is unfair. A vocal core, then, some of whom are very frequent posters. But there are flecks of piss on everyone's chips. It was tiring reading people countering honest criticism of the beta with the same old 'Its just a beta, it will be fixed for the full game', with no confirmation or evidence this is true besides blind optimism. Nothing wrong with being optimistic; we just don't need reminding that it's a beta so ruddy often. We know.

There's plenty of secondary evidence that many of the issues in the beta have been fixed, with DarthKebab's hands-on experience of the final code being the most recent of many.

Just chill out and cut some of us guys some slack. We've had a shit time with PES these last few years and finally we have something to be excited about. If you don't like it there's always the more grown-up side of the forum.

romagnoli, i see you have played the game

could you say Fifa 11 is the best football game ever?

i just laughed at how much importance they gave to the custom celebrations, and you must admit it's a little exaggerated, from what i have read on fifa section here on evo web, to speak about Fifa 11 as the best football game ever made
i sense an improvement over fifa 10, but that's all, and fifa 10 was far from being the greatest football game ever made
among the two games the one who had the greatest improvement is Pes, without a doubt

So who has actually paid for a PSN Plus account just to get the demo a week earlier? I must admit I am tempted, but now I saw it is £11.99 for 3 months, hmm no, not worth it :)

IMO Romagnoli is right.
A couple of years ago people where considered idiots because they preferred either PES or FIFA.
If the same reviewer would give PES2011 99% hardly anybody in this thread would criticize that.
Please no more FIFA/PES wars in here, because it spoiled EVo-Web a couple of years ago.

I agree with you Jamez. Obviously its not nice when anybody trolls the forums regardless of wether its for PES or for FIFA. We dont need immaturity as Rom is pointing out but I dont think they were really taking the piss out of FIFA the game but rather the expected journalistic efforts of the gaming media who as we all assumed will lavish heaps of praise on FIFA since its the market leader.

But I also think your taking stuff a bit too seriously Rom and this itself is almost as negative an aspect as trolling. If people want to have blind optimism for either game then let them. Everyone's old enough to make up their mind and deduce the truth from fiction.

FIFA 'hasn't changed' and gets a 94, calling it the best football game ever is silly and the reviewer was therefore bought out. Meanwhile PES which is much improved isn't the best football game ever further adding to the silliness? Some LOOOL into the mix too?

Lovely.

Gerd has it spot on. This place gets ruined by mention of FIFA; it just sets people off. This place's going to have more PES/FIFA dual owners than ever. There's no free ride to point and laugh because this place will have more people able to call the BS out.

So why BS?

LOL. So not true. It would be exactly the same if they gave it 99% saying it was the best football game ever because it had a stadium editor and barrel shaped balls. This is my point anyway.

I'm tempted too, but not enough to make me do it. Not really got 12 quid to spend on a demo, i'll just buy the game like I always have

Lol, pathetic. You just distorted everything I said. You can be a pretty dumb person when you want to.

Come on, remember when IGN gave PES2008 a 9.2/10? That was met with the same reaction here. PES was still living off past glories not helped by the fact that IGN sponsored the game. We all thought that score was a joke.

As soon as I want to I'll let you know and we can have a game of PES/FIFA.

Jamez - nothing wrong with optimism; see my post before. But that's how people get screwed over and everyone starts hating on WENB for being blindly optimistic.

I think we can consider most reviews a joke seeing as we are all "hardcore" on here anyway......Very few will reflect how we consider the game.

Exactly. Why was this? Because it was the market leader. The same is to be expected with FIFA but the of course you cant judge it until you have played it.

Before the game was released/played?

As Tik said and I said earlier, it's about time we came to terms with mags not representing us.

1. I've never said FIFA hasn't changed. I said it SEEMS to have barely changed. Previews and review confirm it
2. PES has improved much, it's true, I was stating it. I'm not expecting anyone to say PES 2011 is the best football game ever, in the same way I don't think FIFA 11 is, neither was FIFA 10. Does this mean I'm dissing FIFA? Ok then.
3. I wasn't the only one saying GamesMaster review was silly. I think it's fair to think that, for the reasons I've explained already. If you don't agree, that's fine with me.
4. OPM is indeed praising FIFA too much, getting to the point of saying PES is "same old". I don't agree with that, so I find it odd. Maybe It's just one of mine stupid conspiracy theories then.

I'm moving on now.

I agree. What's different this year is that hundreds - even thousands - of people have had the chance to play PES2011 early this year. This has never happened before on such a scale. We've all had a taster and I'd say 99% of people's reactions to it have been very positive. It's not a case of blind optimism this year. We know what's wrong with the beta and we have multiple reports saying that most of the problems are fixed. But we know that there's a hell of a lot of things very right with PES2011 as well.

But we haven't seen those problems fixed, did we? I think his point is (correct me if I'm wrong), we don't have real evidence that most problems are fixed since we're trusting on "word" rather than experiencing it for ourselves, or seeing it in videos.

No we haven't, but if it was just WENB reporting this then I would be worried, but we have other sites and individuals saying the same things. It's no different to relying on the word of people like Rom, Nick, Rodelero etc (no offence intended) whom have all come to a very similar opinion of Fifa11.

Yup. My point is that, if it IS fixed, then great - just don't assume the positive all the time, even if Konami have radically changed how they do things. Not saying Darth doesn't know what he is doing at all, just that even the Emirates FIFA 11 playtest showed that it's hard to truly confirm anything in a short space of time. It's whether it feels fixed come November, December that's the real test - which again is something mags will never tell you.
