Right, I started another ML. Version 1.02. Zero assists. Superstar. ML defaults. I PROMISE no more moaning. Just ML stories I promise!
From what I've played of it, the patch has actually made some decent improvements, and my whole ML experience is a lot better than before. I think the patch has sharpened and improved the game graphically, say what you want, but IMO there are minor gameplay tweaks in there too. I've had some fantastic matches with the play taking place in midfield a lot. It feels more polished.
Key differences I've noticed in ML since the patch are how much better the game flows without the auto-save interrupting the calendar. So much better. Also, I've noticed how every single player has their own stat-changing boots. And I've been awarded two new pairs in the first three weeks of the season. It's too early to tell regarding the teamwork, which Konami said they were fixing, and the form, but I'm gonna put up with it whatever the case.
So, on to season one. I'm again with Benfica, this time determined to actually do a proper campaign with them.
First thing I did was to release a couple of squad players, and sell on two players for around £300,000. I promoted Nouhei and Neillendner from the youth squad.
Trying a little cheeky trick I did last time, I went straight to the 'free agents' search function and immediately found that the entire Benfica squad are of course sitting there without a club. I don't have the funds to sign the top players who made way for my ML default players, but I did manage to secure the signatures on free transfers of a number of younger, up and coming players.
I like this idea, taking on a new squad of players who are terrible, but utilizing the club's limited initial funds to wheel and deal and get some of the younger original Benfica players back. It's given the club a fighting chance, albiet at the expense of my club's entire budget for the season.
So, in came the following players;
Artur (79 rated keeper), Sidnei (77 rated CB), Yannick Djalo (67 rated SS/RM), Alan Kardec (73 rated target man CF) but the jewell in Benfica's crown is definitely the signing of AMF Bruno Cesar, a 79 rated midfielder with a host of cards including the Talisman. He goes in as the club's playmaker, captain and club hero quite frankly.
These five players cost me the bulk of my transfer budget in wages, the other 'former' Benfica players were not interested or totally out of my club's budget.
So, on to the start of the season, I've drawn my opening two matches, 1-1 with Kardec netting on his debut, and 2-2 with two goals from Bruno Cesar. I then followed those up with a 4-2 home win which saw a hat-trick from midfield from Bruno Cesar and a glancing header from Kardec. Having this spine through the centre of my side with Artur, Sidnei, Bruno Cesar and Kardec really seems to be pulling my side along, not least when they're surrounded by absolutely crappy ML default players.
Back to the 4-2 win though, Cesar stole the show, the first two goals relatively scrappy affairs, but the third goal, to seal the win, was the best goal I've ever scored on PES. Using all his technique, Bruno Cesar pulled off a knuckle-shot which swerved past the keeper - check out how much the ball swerves past the keeper at the last minute. First time I've ever actually scored a knuckle-shot.

Bruno Cesar has been a revelation though. I noticed he was fairly anonymous in his first match, but I experimented in that game by handing him the captaincy at half-time. Since then he was instantly transformed into a midfield dynamo. His off the ball movement is light years ahead of everyone else around him. I think perhaps the Talisman card 'reacts' well to having him as captain. It's been a well known fact that in previous PES games handing people the captain's armband can increase their ability. Seems to do so with this chap.
