PES 13 Master League Thread

Afternoon guys!
Am in my 7th ML season, after winning D2 my first season in the prem was aimed at just staying up, I finished 7th securing a Europa League spot.
Am now 8 games into the new season, 6th in the Prem and currently Top of my Europa League group after 3 games.

I was playing on v1.0 up until recently after Jimmy's suggestion, and my observations about the new v1.02 patch are as follows:

- No apparent core game play changes
- Scripting seems ramped up a bit more
- Overall balance of the games seems tweaked to favour the CPU teams more
- CPU pressuring increased

apart from disable the auto save the patch has made absolutely no discernible difference to me. If anything its made the game slightly less enjoyable due to the lesser amount of freedom you get to play the ball about now.
Form is still wank, I was on a 5 game unbeaten run and came back from 2-0 down to beat the 2nd placed team 3-2, next match 8 of my starting 11 were blue or purple arrowed, I had to play a completely different team next game including players that were in wrong positions and subsequently lost the match.

The low CPU scorelines isn't an Issue in the premier league and never was an issue in the prem whilst I was in D2.
It appears the whole D2 setup in PES is fucked this year, chants don't work, low low CPU scorelines, league name and ball type not taking effect in edit mode for D2 etc etc.

Since the patch I'm also getting boots after every win or draw, I had 6 pairs in the whole of last season, I've had 6 pairs in my first 10 games this season.

I'd start a new one on 1.02, you get far better form! and i think no crazy player development if you continue with one made before 1.02 you have the same form effects as 1.00 and 1.01, also i'm surprised your getting boots after draws, I'm only getting them after wins.

Best to start a new one :)

Without the crazy player development, the crazy player stats would most likely have totally fucked the gameplay up.

I did some tests with Barca and Werder Bremen to see what season mode is like after 3/4 seasons and it's not good, squads are beyond a joke with the over the top ratings. Most big teams had everyone over 90, many players going over 100 overall. Average players where rated 85/86.

If you in Season 7 i guess you will have again players with stupidly high stats so you'll have this superman like players gliding about everywhere.

So, it's almost Christmas time and my copy of PES is firmly wrapped up ready for opening! Looking forward to returning to the PES side of things.

Couple of things:

1) What's new in the general ML/FL mode? Any dramatic changes in terms of player development or youth players coming through?

Well it's better on 1.02 than it was on 1.00 and 1.01 but it's not great this year, too basic, last years was better. Too many things taken out like player communication, no news whatsoever about other games

I'm enjoying version 1.2 a lot, I think there are minor tweaks again that have made it better.

Right, well, I've found a solution to the arrows issue where keepers are concerned. After every game I usually save my ML, so if I ever find myself with my keeper on a purple arrow, simply quit, reload from the beginning of the week, hey presto, the totally randomised form arrows are totally different. I absolutely, flat refuse to play a a single ML match with my keeper on purple. Maybe when I have a better squad, and have two evenly competing keepers, I will be able to just swap them over, but for now, on Superstar, having my keeper on purple means I've lost the game before I've even started.

Make no mistake, I don't mind having players on purple arrows, I agree with Jimmy that it only makes a small difference. That doesn't apply to keepers though. Virtually every effort on target they have to deal with, they let in, at least on Superstar. I just lost a game 3-2 that I utterly dominated from start to finish, every COM effort on target went in. Not only that, but every effort was a poor shot that went about a foot to the side of my keeper that you could easily tell he'd normally save with no effort at all. On purple however, he literally just stands there and drops to the ground without diving in the diction of the ball.

If all the rest of my team are purple, fine, I'll play the game, if my keeper's on a blue arrow, fine, I'll play, but purple? No way. I'll just restart the week. I'm not playing a match knowing every shot on target will be a goal against me because of a randomly generated form arrow. Things are hard enough on Superstar without that kind of nonsense! Why they make keepers so poor on purple is anyone's guess. They should really be more prone to dropping crosses and parrying shots they should hold on to rather than just falling to the ground as the ball trickles three feet to their right.

I'd normally feel like this is somehow cheating the game as I never replay matches just because I've lost etc, but I've no issues with doing this at all. I'll still never replay a match if lost, and I'll never restart the week even if most of my team are on purple, but because the form arrows have no basis for itself, and are so random, and it utterly disables your keeper to the point that you'd be better off putting an outfield player in goal, well, then I have no issue with doing it.

Incidentally, I just tried restarting the week because, Artur, my keeper, was on purple so I thought no way, not again. I restarted the week, and again, hey presto, he's randomly on a yellow arrow. I'm so glad they disabled autosave.

Fair enough i say!

Konami have over the years struggled with keepers, because of their determination to make them stat built. Any keeper who doesn't at the very least have 75 for keeper skills is just flat fucking useless, so beware any keeper on 79-75, if their form is on a blue or purple they again will be useless.

Does this happen in real life? Just watch West Brom vs Arsenal last game of the 2012-13 season. Watch Fulop's performance.

What isn't good is about 30/25% of the keeper animations are still bad, the rest of them are fine and at times they are great. The keeper makes a sexy save then jumps on the ball with bent arms like a robot :(

Yeah the form/keeper issue is not right at all, outfield players can get away with it but if your keeper is on a purple arrow, like I say, you are guaranteed that virtually every shot on target will go in. At least on Superstar, anyways. Given how crazily poor keepers on purple arrows are, restarting the week is the only way to go for me. Like I say, if I get to the day of a game and my entire outfield team are on purple arrows, fair enough I'll carry on and play the game, but if my keeper is purple then nope, I'll restart. It's too much of a disadvantage to be considered fair.

That said, recently my keeper has been on reasonable form. In fact my team is gelling quite nicely, a great and sudden run of wins have catapulted me from the lower half of table to within four points of the promotion places. My record now reads six wins, ten draws, three losses. Since signing Nolito in the January window, I have a four-pronged attack of Bruno Cesar, Yannick Djalo as attacking midfielders and Nolito and Alan Kardec up front. These four are hammering in the goals right now, really feels like my team is gradually taking shape after a difficult start.

It's probably on this thread somewhere, but does anyone know what you have to do to get a players teamwork to rise?

I have started a master league with benfica and I am really enjoying it. I bought Gyan and another player and both have teamwork at 48 and it isn't rising no matter how much they are played. It doesn't seem to effect them as much as it did in previous years.

I'm starting season two with patch 1.2 installed from the beginning, and I'd say it's kind of fixed. It's definitely better.

I'm sure I signed Djallo and his teamwork stats instantly dropped to 58 or so, now at the beginning of season two, he's up to 68. Other players seem to have increased around 5-6 points for the season which is better than before. Nouhei, pre-patch, was around 59 for teamwork but now he's 70. Others are barely any different from the start of the season.

To be honest, I totally forgot about the whole teamwork issue in my ML this time around, it doesn't seem to be affecting my players at all. My team now feel extremely well bonded and settled in, with runs off the ball, decent-ish defensive covering etc. It's definitely better since the patch.

Blimey. I just completed the best season on ML I think I've ever had. After ten games I found myself fourth from bottom, two points above last place, with most of those opening ten games drawn. Towards the midway point of the season, I started to pick up a few more wins and losses rather than draws, and found myself exactly half-way at the mid-point in the season with four wins, ten draws, three defeats.

In the January window, only one player came in, signing Nolito on a free transfer as he was without a club. My budget just about stretched that far to sign him, given I'd managed to sell on a few ML default squad players too.

What happened next was amazing. Out of nowhere, my team were on fire, netting a flood of goals as I won game after game to rise up the table. My attacking four of Kardec, Nolito, Djallo and Bruno Cesar dominated teams, including an amazing 7-0 hammering of Covilha at home. Defensively, things got a little better, with me learning a better effective use of double press and the jockeying system that allowed me to hound out the opposition in midfield a lot better.

All in all, I climbed into the promotion places with a handful of games to spare, thanks to a stunning record of 14 wins and 1 draw. I secured promotion and second place in the table with two games to spare, with a stunning 4-3 home win thanks to a late, late goal from Djallo on the break very reminiscent of the Celtic winner again Barcelona the other week. Awesome stuff.

As for my signings, well, they were a revelation. Bruno Cesar bagged 22 goals and 12 assists from midfield, Kardec netting 24 goals in 35 appearances, Djallo scoring 14 from the right side of midfield, and Nolito bagging 9 goals in just 15 appearances.

At the back, Nouhei and Sidnei formed a decent partnership, backed up by experienced keeper Artur.

I'm amazed I pulled this off using Superstar, zero assists and ML default players (which also means you start with virtually no money). Sure, I 'worked the system' slightly by signing free agents who play for Benfica in real life, and so were unemployed in ML to make way for the ML default players, but who cares. I only managed to sign the fringe players from Benfica and some youth players, the top players were too expensive and didn't want to drop down anyways. I made an effort to sign Gaitan for example, but got snubbed instantly. He ended up joining Real Madrid.....

So, I ended up second place, with a record of P34 W19 D11 L4 F73 A40 PTS 68.

My team at the end of the season was;

GK Artur (79)
RB Paccini (69)
LB Macovshire (62)
CB Sidnei (78)
CB Nouhei (75)

RM Yannick Djallo (72)
LM Gellazca (69)
DM Voleimann (70)
AM Bruno Cesar (Captain, 79)

SS Nolito (75)
CF Alan Kardec (75)

During pre-season, I've noticed that the patch has altered the finances associated with promotion so you don't get anywhere near as much. I got £1.5m for finishing second, but the sponsorship totals are much lower than before, and my opening game, at home, still sees me in a half empty Stadium of Light with only £150K gate receipts than the £500K I was getting in a previous ML before the patch.

Back to season two, and I made two signings, again both free agents having rejected deals at their clubs. First, in came striker Gameiro (73) formerly from PSG, and Maxi Perreira, a RB, having been signed up during season one, saw out his contract, now I nipped in and snapped him up for nothing.

I've been looking for a decent defensive midfielder but have failed, no-one wants to join us :(

So, on to my first game of the new season, and welcome to the Liga Con Sagres. Three minutes in, Academica take the lead as they smash home a stunning half volley from 30 yards into the roof of my net. Within two minutes I drew level, Kardec getting on to the rebound after Djallo's pace got him in behind the defence and his shot was initially parried.

Next came a comedy of defensive errors, amazingly from the COM that I took full advantage of. Their keeper had the ball in his hands, threw it out to a full back, who didn't seem to notice, he ran away from the ball, I nipped in, Kardec slotted past the keeper. 2-1. In the second half, Benfica struggled to get a foothold in the game however Nolito outmuscled the defender and his error allowed him to arrow a shot past the keeper for a 3-1 win!

I use Gaitan on the left with a +3 trainer on his speed, he is decent. Gyan asamoah is great upfront for me, scores in most games he plays

In my first league this year on superstar. was doing ok but hit a bad run of games and my defence is now leaking goals. I played PSG away in the champions league and missed my keepers form being on a purple and conceded 9.

So, for my own sanity, I've decided not to play any league cup matches in my Man United ML. Aside from the absurd form issue, the games are so strained. The cpu scores plenty, which I could live with, but the goals are freakish, unnatural. I'm not completely in control of my players all the time. After losing 0-4 to Celtic I've almost given up on Champions League (in ML) as well. The second goal was a dropped ball by my keeper who turned and kicked it in his own net. CPU moves are too robotic and precise. Winning the league will have to be enough.

--good day

Started a career with newcastle as thought would be a decent challenge and thought would try bring through my own team, ended up selling big assets and bring a youthful team through, giving me money to play with, first season i didn't qualify for europe but i did get quater finals of europa ad semi final of fa cup, just halfway through second season and almost already got same amount of wins in the league as did season before, playing much more offensive team but really need to cash in on a cdm as tiote is really only proper cdm i have atm and he gets injured a bit due to playing alot

^^^ Over 300 million to spend!?!? WTF that's in no way realistic !!

and as per the club ranking for 2012/13 you were ranked 40, down 18 places.
Yet for the following season, you were again ranked 40th but still showing as being down 18 places?? How can that work?

bought this game from gamestop for £15 and it arrived on Friday.
Sat morning it was on and got sold on ebay - getting my money back.
What a lump of steaming turd this game is.

How much did you sell your players for to get a budget of £300 million?!

I've just been promoted to the Liga Con Sagres and I only have a budget of £2M :((

That said, I'm enjoying building a side on the cheap. I haven't paid a single transfer fee yet :))

I'm finding Superstar to be more than manageable so far, but then I've only played against Div 2 teams so far. I'm sure playing in the top league and hopefully, eventually, Europe, will be a different story.

I'm using Benfica too, I like the Portuguese league and also like how fully licenced they are. The Stadium of Light looks lovely in both day and night games, and it's one of the few stadiums with licenced ad boards etc.

About Gaitan, he will end up a monster of a player. I'm using default ML players so I don't have his services (as a free agent he went to Real Madrid) but compared to the likes of Minandinho etc he's like the videogame version of Pele :P

300 million is from selling pretty much all the bigger players up and picking players up on free/for next to nothing/youth

also the ranked 40th on season 2 hasn't been updated as not fully into second season

That's why I picked benfica and the Portuguese league. They have the best stadiums, turf and lighting. There are some teams I would never use as their stadium looks awful and cannot be changed.

I might try a team in the Spanish league after this as a lot of the new stadiums look good at any time of day.

Something I have noticed when picking which league to run in, is that any created stadium that people add to the game is given overcast weather, so it always looks grey. This is a bit shit.

One of the things I would love to see in the consoles is to be able to import add-boards

I basically got myself a decent option file so that all the Portuguese teams have the proper kits, then edited all the teams to have a lot of the Spanish stadiums etc that look decent. I then, for my first season in division 2, edited the team names so that they have the real Portuguese second division teams. Add that to Benfica being fully licenced and with the best stadium graphics in the game (in my opinion) and it's a great experience. I also used the default PES ball in div 2, but since going up to the top division, have now changed the ball to the Puma Powercat ball, I think it's the best in the game. Somehow it looks larger than the other ones, and has some kind of visual placebo going on where it feels like it moves more realistically. It doesn't, of course, but somehow gives the impression that it does.

Oh and I totally agree about created stadiums, I've been wondering ever since they brought this feature in why daytime matches are always grey and overcast. It's the reason I don't use created stadiums.

So, three matches into my second season, with largely the exact same side, and I've stunned everyone by leading the table with three wins out of three:))

I had the same settled side that gained promotion with the exception of Maxi Pereira now coming into the side. What an addition he is. Signed on a free, he is mainly an 81-rated full back, but he can also play as a 76-rated DCM with the box-to-box card. He is awesome in that position, spraying passes, getting forwards, scampering back to his defensive duties due to having a crazy stamina rating of 95.

So, ive played long enough to see the differences the patch has made. So far, Superstar feels a lot more fair, with far less scripted nonsense going on. I am able to outmuscle and outpace teams, particularly with the extreme pace I have down the wings.

I terms of ML, the form issue has been improved tenfold. I pretty much always have decent form arrows for home matches, whereas I usually have fairly poor ones away from home. This is really how it should be. A Jimmy said, keepers apart, blue and even purple arrows don't really mean you should drop players, it just means they are slightly off form. This issue is more noticeable with poor players, of course.

Boots-wise, I actually prefer the the fact that the game awards every win with new boots. I'm now absolutely swimming in all kinds of colourful boots to choose from, though combining their stat boosts with buying items may be making players just that bit too good. Nouhei for example is an awesome youth defender but who is slow. All I had to do was stick some boots on him that boost his explosive power and speed, and now he's becoming the complete defender. It's fun, not realistic, but I making things a little easier than they perhaps shoud be.

Player development seems much better, players don't seem to be improving as quickly as I'd heard they do, but after a good few seasons I think that could get out of control. Shall have to wait and see.

All in all, I'm loving ML since the patch. Thanks to the disabling of autosave I can now whizz through each week. I really think there should be at least something to do between matches, that's pretty poor on Konami's part, but all in all I think ML is a much better experience with the patch.

Gameplay-wise, Superstar feels a lot more fair. I can't believe I gained promotion in my first season with ML defaults and a spattering of free transfers, and now those players have developed to the point where I'm continuing with the same set of players. My opening three matches have been great, I won all three, but the games have shown the COM to be able to provide entertaining games where they attack a lot more. I've won all three opening games, but had to see out periods of intense pressure. My last game, I won 3-1, but conceded ten corners for example.

Loving it so far.

Has anyone here noticed what the patch 1.02 has made to the goalkeepers? Everytime i go with a player slightly to one side of the field, the goalkeeper moves completely to the nearest post leaving the goal wide open ... I'm having a lot of results like 6-0, 5-1, 4-0, mostly due to this, almost every shot i make is goal, and i play in Superstar!
It is so annoying...how can i uninstall the 1.02?! i prefer playing with black boots, than score almost every time i make a shot on goal...very disappointing...

Well restarted the game due to the boots update which was a pain with all the black boots. Currently only 9 or 10 games into the league, although sitting top on goal difference in a close group of teams within the PGL (Portugese & Greek League) Division 2.

Spanked Braga convincingly in the first round of the cup.

Got a few signatures in to boost the team (I have edited players, some good players with various attributes). Hoffer, Friend, Rupp and Dawda Bah who have all settled in quite well. Also promoted Nouhei and the Greek goalie (can’t mind his name) into the squad.

Hope to boost it come the January window, but not sure if I’ll have the money to do so.

One of the things I would love to see in the consoles is to be able to import add-boards

Id love the facility to be able to import up to say 10 custom adboards and be given an in-game utility to animate them, so you can choose what order they appear in, the animation transition, such as dissolve, swipe, fade, blast etc, and how long the adboard stays on screen for, 3secs, 5secs, 10secs, before animating to the next.
Would look really good and give the option to use multiple adboards/sponsors per stadia without having to chop and change in edit mode.

The lesser keepers in this game have horrendous positioning for the most part, and this has been the case on all versions, 1.00 through to 1.02. What you will find though, is the better rated keepers come off their line more, pre-empt the shot, and narrow the angle. This in turn, does leave them open to the R2 long-range lobs though. I don't really have that much of a problem with that, I just wish they had a better animation for the retreat and attempted save.

Just restarted ML after awhile giving the game a rest, and editing all the leagues correctly. If you cannot download like me the bare bones basic teams on the disc are beyond a joke-some players at clubs nearly four years out of date.

Suupertalk you are wrong about quick free kicks, I have done quite a few. It seems something to with if an animation is going to kick in, just press A(XBox) as quick as you can.

Jimmy-G, I find the goalies all unpredictable, either brilliant or bonkers, best one for me, shot free kick and GK juggles it and throws it into own net. My GK with a minute left throws it straight at the opposition number nine, they score. Even had one of my GKs red carded, he just charged out and brought down the striker.

Fisrt match today on professional beat Sochaux 5-2 nearly always lose opening match.

This was happening before 1.02 also.

It's not happening to me, i dunno, what settings are you using for Passing and game speed.

Give it a week and you will be kicking this bitch out of bed. Come Christmas you will be going down on her and cooking her dinner.

Not sure that's going to happen to be honest, I'm not sure if I want to continue this anyways. I just lost 5-3 in the cup, five goals from five raking through passes immediately after I'd score myself. Scripting at its absolute most blatant. Joke is that on every goal I saw it coming, moved to intercept the pass, and yet the COM just moved my player back out of the way again. On the one occasion it didn't, the through ball went right through my player's leg. Literally. I put the replay on and I actually intercepted the ball, but it passed through his body and still made its way to the striker who scored.
