Next Gen Consoles

It's a bit early to say "loads".

Seeing lots of complaints about how slow it is to download the system update through the console, why the hell didn't they just download it on their PC to a flashdrive? It's been available on Sony's website for a week!

I think people are panicking it seems.

Seems to be an issue with the hdmi handshake and screws things up.

One guy had his die after the update! I remember that happen with the Xbox 360

Generally though the console gets hot and dRive noisy, to be expected with the design though

I would agree to early to say loads but at the time neogaf was in a panic

These deals can all be arranged in a one-to-one over the next fortnight to create your own launch day bundle and also can be Pre-Paid on the 27th/28th so that you just walk in store with your ticket and take your goody bag home on midnight/day launch.. otherwise you can pay for them on the day while stocks last.

Some of these rumors have been circulating the net the last few days and i have now received photographic evidence confirming it along with a phone call from my local store.

GREATNESS AWAITS!

Do you guys have a huge backlog of 360/ps3 games or are you really ready for "New Current Gen" ?
I may have 10 games that I still want to complete. I am not ready!!!

I still have Wii games I want to finish! I'm getting a PS4 at launch but to be honest I was just as excited at Sony announcing The Last of Us story DLC yesterday.

Current gen ain't over by a long way.

Not seeing any issues being mentioned on NeoGAF, everyone seems pretty happy.

People should know the the way media is these days, it's easy to find reports of things going wrong because that's when most people post. But how many post when nothing is wrong? So even though you see a few reports, I wouldn't read much into it.

Yea people always quick to complain and with such a high profile launch it's bound to be headline news. With any new product you are gonna get a small % that don't work.

The slow network update thing is stupid. What do prople expect, it's day one?! What till the XBO is out and thousands of people are trying to download forza or FIFA! Will be carnage.

Especially with people so sensitive around launch days. I imagine the XBO will get a lot of similar scrutiny, Sony kids desperate to make a big thing out of one or two consoles going bust.

It does seem a little funny that IGN had problems with one of their units AND the guy who won one as a prize did - the odds of two such high profile cases happening at once seem so small that it makes the failure rates look quite high. It will be interesting to see how many failures there actually are over the next couple of weeks, beyond 5 or 6 people kicking up a stink on twitter/forums.

"The Wireless Controller has been redesigned to allow for higher data transfer speed between the controller and the console. This also required creating a new expansion port design for headsets and future controller add-on devices which is different from a standard audio plug input."

That basically translates to "We want more money so will develop an adapter which will cost us peanuts but cost the consumer around £30."

I'd pay extra for that as my stupid TV hasnt got a headphone socket.

Same situation so I got one of these.

It's still too early to tell what percentage of PS4s may be defective. I assume we'll find out over the next week or so. I don't expect there to be a lot of defects, but who knows?

As for the slow network, I think it is a valid concern considering Sony's previous networking woes. Compared to PC and Xbox network reliability, Sony was way behind last generation. "Scalability" is a big part of managing a network. Whether it is for a console launch or a big game release, there are times where network traffic will be heavy. And when traffic is heavy (whether expected or not), that's when I expect Sony to adjust so that everyone can use it. That's the point of paying for the console, PS Plus, everything. For it to work when you want it.

There are only thousands of PS4s being connected in the wee hours of launch. And Sony knew that they'd all need to download a patch. This shouldn't be an issue.

If Microsoft has similar issues at launch I will be similarly disappointed.

There'll be grey stands/chargers/audio adaptors on Dhgate/Tmard/Banggoods at a fraction of the cost in weeks so don't see the issue about the cost of the brand items personally.

From EA
Sony has released a firmware update for the PlayStation 4 that is required for many features on the console. However, this update also results in stability issues while playing games on the system.

This affects all games on the PS4, including EA titles, causing crashing/freezing and non-responsive connections between the player's console and their TV Screen.

Unfortunately since it's an issue with Sony's firmware, it requires a new update to fix it. Sony is working to resolve the issue as quickly as they can. They will update their System Update page as new versions are made available, and we will keep this page updated as we find out more.

Source?

I mean if this is true, and Sony is once again releasing patches that break the system... Sigh.

Another PS4 review:

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/11/playstation-4-hardware-review-off-to-a-mixed-start/

The good
Beautiful, unique case design
Relatively quiet operating noise
Lighting, smoke effects, and character models look great
DualShock 4 controller is one of the best we've ever used
Stream game audio to any headset through the controller
What's New section provides a look at friends' activities
Automatic download of system and game updates
Great new PlayStation Store interface
Streaming gameplay online is easy and addictive
Local Vita Remote play works surprisingly well

The bad
Relatively high power consumption
Leap in graphics doesn't provide the "wow factor" of previous generational jumps
Controller only gets about 7 hours of battery life
Flat system interface gets cluttered and hard to use
Limited editing and upload options for gameplay clips
Music Unlimited is clunky, and the only way to get outside music

The ugly
Camera-based voice commands are practically useless
iOS PlayStation App seems of limited use
Bluetooth headsets don't work, for some reason

The Verdict: Wait for the Xbox One review to compare and contrast.
