Next Gen Consoles

Shopto are offering PS4 bundles right now for the UK if you're interested, some with games and some with extra pads etc.

I've only got the basic console pre-ordered with them but they're offering the chance to swap the pre-order for one with a bundle which is nice. Plus they're telling me it'll arrive in the post on day of release :)

Poor deals compared to the official Sony bundle though (Killzone, extra pad and camera for £429 or so).

Puta que pariu!

How about the PS4? It's supposed to be cheaper...

Still no official price from Sony Brasil... (It wont be launched officially this year it seems, thus Microsoft has a big chance of taking a big chunck of our market)

Plp who import and sell unofficially are planning to sell for 1.600-1.800 Reais(550-570 Euros) but u can also find cheaper Xbox Ones with those sellers, u dont get official warranty though wich is a no-go for me in a new generation.

It hits Brasil this year man http://blog.br.playstation.com/2013/08/20/gamescom-2013-ps4-chega-as-lojas-em-novembro/ no price though, but I'm thinking it will be slightly cheaper than the Xbox

There's no official confirmation that this will be made available in the UK, which is annoying as surely announcing this now would sway even more people to buy their system? It is a really good deal.

I'm keeping my basic Shopto pre-order at just the console for £348 until this is announced officially. Hopefully I'll be able to swap-out my existing pre-order for this new bundle.

It's a great deal though, the only one I've seen so far that actually saves any money on buying them separately.

If they don't release an official bundle in the UK, then I'll import from Amazon Germany. They had the deal there but it sold out quite quickly once people got wind of it. Worth importing for that saving.

Shopto.net are letting customers pay off the cost of a new next gen console in monthly payments, you get the options on the payment screen.

You can get a PS4 for £12 a month
Xbox one for £14 a month

Or BOTH for £26 a month

I'm assuming you'll end up paying more in the long run though

Interest will be crazy, I reckon.

Edit: £39 extra in interest for just the console. Also "Finance currently unavailable. This will be available from 04-11-2013 "

Interesting article on IGN, MS are randomly trying to claim PS4 is not 30% more powerful than XBOne when I'm not even sure anyone had put a figure on it. MS had probably been better off not saying this at all, as their argument just sounds flimsy to me.

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/09/...-notion-ps4-is-30-more-powerful-than-xbox-one

I dunno, think that's more bad PR, all they're doing is sounding like it really is 30% more powerful, but they're claiming their developers will make up the shortfall with good programming. Their argument doesn't work though because they don't have the monopoly on in-house programmers knowing their system inside-out. Sony have their in-house team and also Naughty Dog, as well as hardware that's developer friendly.

Tbh digital foundry came to a somewhat similar conclusion, the gross numbers dont translate 1 on 1 to game performance. Atleast not at the moment. All i am expecting is smoother games on the ps4, similar to how they were smoother on the 360 for quiet some time.

I saw the finance option on shopto this week when i pre-ordered

How much you deposit (what's left is what you are borrowing off them so you want to deposit as much as you can afford) and how long you want to pay it back (less time the better) determines how much interest you pay.

For the cheapest Xbox bundle (£490) with the maximum £240 deposit paying £23 a month over a year would only cost you £31 interest.

Minimum deposit of £50 paying £17 a month over 3 years would be £95 interest.

You can mix it up as well with how much you deposit and how many months you want to pay it back in, use the calculator on there to see if it suits you.

Well worth doing the max deposit lowest payback option though if you don't want to spend a lot in one go or you cant raise enough. You can't grumble at paying £31 extra for the convenience of paying back £23 a month.

Adrian C. (Former People Can Fly) Claims His Dev Friends Claim 50% XB1/PS4 Speed Diff

UPDATE #3:

Adrian was kind enough to write a detailed explanation to all of this in the thread:

Here I am. So...

1. I am not doing a damage control, but I do want to clarify one thing. But first, yes, devs I know -- and as someone has shown it before in this thread, some other devs already talked about it too -- claim that there's 50% speed difference WHEN DEVELOPING in cross-gen/next-gen PS4/XO games. So there we are, I said it and I stand by it. Notice: WHEN DEVELOPING. It'll become clear in a second.

2. Will this change in the future? WIll devs discover some tricks to narrow the gap? Will stuff like XO cloud computing help? Hell if I know. Uhm, maybe? I know that devs -- well, most of them -- will do whatever they can do get you the best games possible. You're going to see a lot of multiplatform games this next gen, just as you've seen them in this gen, so it's in studios' best interest that there's no clear advantage in one version over the other.

3. Does it mean studios will cripple PS4 versions to match XO ones? Not really, do not underestimate the devs. Even if this happens, you will not know that and that's okay. You've never seen most games in their most powerful form anyway (when we work on them on our ninja dev PCs in 1080p 120fps with all the antialiasings and stuff turned on for shits and giggles). But most of the time devs have a target and they meet this target. If it's a multiplatform game, it's designed with this in mind from the start. So maybe it's not maxing out one console while going 100% on the other. Maybe it's 100% on both, but they take extra time for super-extra optimizations on the weaker hardware to make sure things look the same as on the more powerful platform. Etc. etc.

4. So what is that "one thing" I want to clarify, that some people may consider "damage control", but really is just an explanation. Someone mentioned Titanfall, which looks money and enjoys a great hype. Exactly. A great dev will make a great game no matter what's the hardware. Current gen CoDs looks great and it's 60 fps, on both platforms (well, and PC :). To most devs that is just impossible to achieve. And yet...

Think about it this way. X360 is faster than PS3. Not just easier to program on, it's faster overall (although PS is faster/better in SOME areas). And yet no exclusive on X360 looks like The Last of Us. Halo 4 looks great. Gears blew my mind in 2006. And still, the best looking AAA game of this generation belongs to the supposedly weaker platform.

So if you think that the war is over because PS4 is 50% faster TODAY, then you're delusional. This is far from over, and will probably never be over, at least not this upcoming gen.

Found this too from another board:

Just read some interesting info concerning this console, that it has a dGPU (effectively a 2nd GPU) and theres a NDA between MS and AMD which gets lifted on 29th Sept, it appears that MS have been secretive over the specs.

Bit odd of that's true. I saw a rev3games video the other day where so e guy at Microsoft practically admitted ps4 was more powerful or has better spec etc.... But that Xbox had some of the best talent working on games.

It wasn't that long ago they were saying it didn't matter if ps4 had better spec as devs will go to the lowest common denominator and most games will be made for that.
Now it seems ps4 is easiest to dev on, but Xbox gas a possible graphical advantage?

It's like a complete roll reversals from Current gen

It's quite possible it's due to the embargo. AMD have not unveiled the Volcanic Islands chipset yet so any hardware containing it will be under NDA until they wish to reveal it.

AMD have done this before.
