I really loved those Bushido shows. That was a PPV and you were given 14 fights  That was when a PPV was worth buying. Not this 5 fight(with the hope for bonus fights) bullshit. I am pretty sure I watched that one on PPV. Makes me so happy. Gotta be my favorite era. 2003-2005

you know your stuff dude. Yeah Bushido 9 was the start of the welterweight and lightweight tournament.

The event was stacked with great fights!

K1 is on in Eurosport HD as someone mentioned

First part is today at 8:15 and the second is Sunday at 8

The K1 Grand Prix that Eurosport showed this weekend just gone, was that the one that I and a few others watched about 3 weeks ago?

Josh Koscheck is out of UFC 109, but Mike Swick is taking his place.

Yeah it wasn't a bad season really, I became a fan of Pulver having not heard of him before this show. Also the first time I've seen Karo Parisyan, and what a muppet he is.

Didn't like S4 (The Comeback) as I think the coach interaction is one of the more interesting parts of the show and they coached themselves, or rather sat around sleeping for a lot of the training sessions it seemed.

I'm onto episode 5 of S6 now. I took a dislike to Matt Serra before this season after seeing him on TUF previously and he really annoyed me but season 6 is showing him to be a really nice guy and a great coach, especially in comparison to Matt Hughes.

So does this mean it is a best of Pride with UFC fighters only. Dana White is a tosser!!

Spike TV will premiere the "Best of Pride" series on Friday, January 15th, with new one-hour episodes every Friday.

UFC president Dana White explained the format of the program:
"It'll kind of be like 'UFC Unleashed,'" said White, referring to Spike TV's UFC-themed highlights show. "All the great PRIDE fights that happened with all the stars who are UFC guys now will be on it."

That's exactly what it is. He's not a tosser, he's a business man and wants to promote the fighters in his business.

i like Dana white, think he is a cool guy

end of the day he has his business to take care of which he has done

yea i don't agree with some of his hype but he is a cool guy and i like him

I just think the show is a total waste of time now. It is not the best of pride.

They should just call it "The Best of UFC fighters fighting each other in a Japanese Promotion called Pride" because that is what it is!

MMAFighting.com breaks the news:

Takanori Gomi, once considered to be one of the best lightweight fighters in the world, has signed a multi-fight contract with the UFC. MMAFighting.com learned of the acquisition from sources on Friday.

No word on when and where Gomi will make his debut for the UFC. The organization has yet to officially announce the signing.

Overeem confirms he fighting for K-1 in march so no strikeforce date in april. Strikeforce have a heavyweight champion who is never around.

He said he will fight in May or June to defend his Strikeforce heavyweight belt ;)

Spike cant even show 'the best of pride' anyway. UFC dont own all the Pride Library. Fuji tv owned a chunk of it so who knows what the UFC got when they thought they were buying Pride lol.

Wonder if this show will screen Noguiera getting owned by Fedor or Silva getting ko'ed by Henderson?
Yes but the problem for Strikforce is they have the CBS show in April. Strikeforce wanted Overeem for that show!!

Also the more Overeem fights in K-1 the more chance is he will get beat.

from my understanding of Dana White's statement it will be UFC vs UFC only so that means any fights involving strikeforce, Dream, Pancrase, Free agent fighters will not be shown. I am wondering even if they will keep the original commentary or will they have joe rogan doing the voice overs.

UFC 108 review:

Lightweight bout: Rafaello Oliveira vs. John Gunderson
Only match not televised

Welterweight bout: Mike Pyle vs. Jake Ellenberger
Not really one I was looking forward to seeing even given the back story, and even though it was pretty short, I wasn't really paying too much attention. It's good that the up and comer won

Middleweight bout: Mark Munoz vs. Ryan Jensen
This "Filipino Wrecking Machine" definitely caught my attention. Great wrestling credentials, trains with the Brazilian Top Team guys, and has some VICIOUS ground strikes. I'd expect Jensen to be cut after that match. He tried to tap before he even took a lot of punishment. Didn't show much heart...but maybe he was more injured than it seemed.

Lightweight bout: Cole Miller vs. Dan Lauzon
One match I was really looking forward to seeing. Seeing little-Lauzon again Cole Miller who I really started to like from his match with Joe Lauzon on season 5. But unlike the nose flair and ear wiggle weight in from the ladder, this was a heated weight in and I really look forward to some fireworks. Knowing Miller I should have known better, but I wasn't disappointed at all. Good strikes displayed by both fighters, and little-Lauzon rocked him. But after that it looked like little-Lauzon expected Miller to role over, and that isn't how Cole Miller rolls. As the "Submission of the Night" went to Cole's well deserved inverted triangle kimura.

Welterweight bout: Martin Kampmann vs. Jacob Volkmann
The battle of the "MANN"'S. In the pre-fight there was talk that Volk had no stand-up and that it was a part of his game he needed to work on. But I found he was able to really give Kamp some good shots and exchanges. In the post-fight interview Kamp may have eluded that it was because he expected him to go for the take down. But a beautifully locked in guillotine choke had Volk tapping in milli-seconds from it being locked in. Not to insult Volk, it was just perfectly executed by Kamp. Amazing to hear that if he lost that he would likely be cut. Unreal considering he was just up for a #1 contender match months ago. That shows how weak 185 is.

Main Card
Heavyweight bout: Junior dos Santos vs. Gilbert Yvel
Pre-fight build up really had me routing for Yvel who was a Pride monster prior to my watching of it. I figured he was past his prime, but he seemed to have something to prove. Instead dos Santos showed he is likely deserving of being in that 2nd tier of contenders at heavy weight. I think his next fight will be against one of the losers from the NogvCain or MirvCarwin. Who else would be in the mix for one of those fights? Nelson, Gonzaga...

Lightweight bout: Jim Miller vs. Duane Ludwig
Not really sure why this was a main card fight...oh yeah..9 injuries. Needless to say, I wasn't too psyched about "Bang"'s return to the UFC that only lasted half a round. I did appreciate Miller thanking everyone following the match including Ludwig for him taking the fight late. Miller looked good, and despite his boring name(I never remember him), I do hope to see him fight again...on an undercard or free show.

Lightweight bout: Joe Lauzon vs. Sam Stout
Only fight I had a routing interest...and I was disappointed obviously. Stout looked great in his striking and good at getting up after take downs. I don't know if Lauzon got hurt or gassed, but he looked pretty worthless...definitely the worst he has ever looked. I would like to highlight his fucking awesome kimura attempt in the 1st rd and in the last minute of the 3rd round he mounted Stout and got me really excited. But definitely a disappointing result and somewhat disappointing performance by one of my favorite TUF alumini.

Catchweight (172 lb) bout: Dustin Hazelett vs. Paul Daley
I saw the weigh-ins(and almost Daley's butt), and I saw he weighed 172..but had an hour to lose 1 lb. I guess he couldn't do it? Anyway, good news Daley is a devastating striker like we all knew he was. Bad news, I learned nothing from this fight. Does he have take down defense or any ground game? Like to see him vs a top wrestler to see if he can keep them at bay. I do like this Brit, but I want to know what else he has. This was a "co-main event"

Light Heavyweight bout: Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva
I don't like either fighter much. But wanted Rashad to win for a couple reasons. 1. Rampage vs Evans(without losing momentum with a loss) 2. I don't want to see a Silva v Machida re-match. So much talent and match-ups at 205...why the hell waste two of Machida's fights in his prime against a "good" fighter like Thiago Silva. Now my review of the fight. For 2 and a half rounds I loved what Rashad brought to the fight and a performance comparable to a GSP fight. The crowd was booing, and I hope it was for Silva's lack of anything for 2 and a half rounds and looking fresh. But then Silva started mocking Rashad(before even hitting him with a punch) trying to entice him into a brawl...which was his only chance to win. Amazingly enough, even with Rashad not seeming to be effectively provoked, Silva ROCKED Rashad. But then the most amazing thing happened. Rashad looked out on his feet and then Silva seemed to taught and fuck around instead of ending the fight. I have never seen anything like that. What a bizarre 3rd round. I liked the result, but I am confused by what I saw from Silva. He is either the dumbest fighter I have ever seen, he was gassed even though he didn't look it, or he had money of Rashad and wanted to get some respect back at the end.

Overall Review:
Considering this was possibly the worst PPV in recent history of UFC, the fights were entertaining and well worth the 4 hours of my life. We got Rashad back with a win, and dos Santos & Daley working themselves into a position to possibly get 1 more fight before a tittle shot. Nothing else too significant. Some people took steps forward, and others took steps back. Hope we can see more of Cole Miller & Mark Munoz, and really hope for a better showing next time around for both Lauzon boys.

UFC News:
It was great to hear that they signed Takanori Gomi. "The Fireball Kid" was DOMINANT in Pride during the prime of MMA. I compare his style a bit to Chuck Liddel in the sense that he has top level striking, great take down defense, and if he is taken down...he is in trouble. He isn't on the top of his game lately, but with Aoki and Kawajiri signing with Strikeforce(I think)...this was a needed signing for UFC to keep the Japanese fans interested. I being a Pride fan, am very happy to see him enter the octagon, and hope to see his best fights ahead of him. He would be a good match for anyone at the 155 division, and I hope he will win a few in a row and get a shot at Penn. Could be the most legit contender for Penn's belt. Back to what kobashi was saying, I really hope they are able to show a lot of Gomi's fights...even with guys not in the UFC. So many good Bushito fights!

Cuts:
Titties, Big Baby :( , Justin Wren (bummer cause he looked promising)

What the fuck was Silva doing in that third round? All that prancing around acting like he was Anderson Silva  If you're going to act like that, at least have something to back it up with! I get that he was trying to entice Evans into a brawl as he needed to finish the fight but he smashed Rashad and then did some more prancing! The idiot  I was rooting for Rashad anyway so happy with the result but Silva has himself to blame for that loss.

Daley ... quality. That's some power the guy has, looking forward to seeing more of him.

Disappointed that Joe Lauzon lost, completely outclassed and wasn't in that at all. Disappointed Cole Miller won, just don't like the guy from his TUF days but it was a quality submission.

Gutted that Big Baby has been cut, hopefully Strikeforce will take him though?

Gomi already got owned by Penn and these days would get beat pretty easily. Gomi is on the slide.

K-1 Dynamite HDnets (English) full 7 hours. Every single fight!! Anyone who wants to see what a big Japanese MMA show is like needs to download this. Its not just the fighting but its the whole spectacle. Only in Japan do you get this.
