MMA thread

Guys, don't forget in the UK, clocks go back one hour tonight at 2am! So technically UFC104 will start at 2am tonight. Because at 2am the clocks go back to 1am, then it's another hour from that, which is 2am again. Hope I explained that right!!!

nice one.. i have set my alarm for 2

i have betted
£10 on Cain Velasquez to beat Ben Rothwell
£20 on Rua to be machida
£10 double for both wins

total returns

£155.24 from a £40 bet

come on lads lol

Usually watch UFC live but the card looks weak to me. Will watch it tomorrow. Machida should beat Shogun either. Shogun really isnt that good. Hopefully will have a stream for the DREAM event tomorrow morning.

No, Shoguns quality. Machidas in trouble tonight. When he runs back, chin in the air, Shogun will nail him with some of his crazy muay-thai. I hope.

Seriously though, think Shogun will run Machida closer than anyone, but get TKO'd in the 3rd.

whoever thinks shogun isn't very good, either knows fk all about mma or is up some other fighters ass (joke no offence).. seriously tho, if people have only seen shogun fight in the ufc then that might be a fair comment

shogan has still not performed up to his standard in the ufc yet, he will one day and i think it maybe tonight, hence my bet

Dont get it twisted I'm really looking forward to the main event. Its the rest of the card that sux. Shogun was a beast in pride. He ran thorugh everyone just I think he doesnt look as good in the cage with UFC's rules. Should be a good fight but think Machida will catch an open shogun and stop him.

i know what you mean. but i think his poor performances were purely down to his lack of fitness, not that he couldn't adapt to the rules

although his stamps and viscous way he used to maul people on the ground won't be allowed in the ufc, i think he is to well rounded for that to cause him problems

instead of the ring , he can now use the cage - cage is a bigger advantage

i agree, machida would beat a lesser than normal shogun, i am just hoping the shogun of old turns up, got money riding on it

fking wankers, totally robbed

shogun was the man, and should of won

he got robbed, and i did of £150

OH MY FUCKING GOD!!! What fucking fight were the judges watching?! That is TOTAL bullshit. Shogun clearly dominated the fight and probably only lost one round, if that. I just can't believe they scored it 48-47 to Machida?!!?

:SHAKE:

Bitter, you've been well and truly fucking robbed mate :((.

i know, but imagine how shogun feels

shogun is the man, love the guy (in a fan sense)

totally robbed and i fking hate this shit

just watched main event and someone needs to visit specsavers. Read the observer report and I not sure if I wanna actually sit down and watch the other fights. Were they any good?

seen some of the live Dream 12 results and that event sounds like it was more exciting for sure. Hoping the Dream 12 fights come up on the net today.

well, i have time to reflect and i am still pissed off

feel totally robbed, poor fucking shogun

this guy came in healthy, perfectly implemented game plan and completely took the fight imo

made a dangerous fighter like machida look very average, neutralized him with his patient, aggressive leg kicks

wtf was going on with that result

i have said it once and i will say it again
shogun is back, he has got his cardio back and he is a dangerous mutha fker

shogun is the man and the judges are wankers

I think that decision was a joke. For me Shogun at least 3 rounds if not 4. I think in Pride both men would of recieved yellow cards as there too often nobody was ready to engage. Very surprised to see there wasnt a split decision.

UFC has a problem now as while Shogun deserves a rematch I wonder how UFC can sell another fight. This fight wasnt the greatest and do people wanna pay to see that again?

Joe Rogan asks the dumbest questions. "Lyoto, do u agree with the decision?" Machida isnt going to say No is he.

and add the fact that machida and anderson silva say they will never fight eachother

shogun v silva would of been good

WTF?! A word used in here sums that up, robbed! Fucking hell, judges!

Shogun had that fight down, the stats show he took Machida with hits and control far more! Machida didn't do fuck all, basically standing off and running away for the most part.

Disgusting decision.

Velasquez was AWESOME though, what a dominant performance that was!

Also impressed with Josh Neer's ground defense as well.

Only caught up last night...
How could they seriously score that fight in favour of Machida? His punches rarely connected, and his kicks were constantly countered.
Do you score higher for defending takedowns? That's the only attack from Shogun that he seemed to deflect, and is the only thing I can think of that got him the decision.

It wasn't the only dodgy decision of the night. Rothwell was stopped when he was getting to his feet. OK, he wasn't half taking a pounding and it was only a matter of time before it was stopped, but that wasn't the time to do it.

Joe Stevenson & Anthony Johnson looked good (not like that!) - I don't think Yoshida knew what hit him!

liger makes a very good point about how would the UFC sell another Machida v Rua fight? I'm not even sure I would bother waking up at 2am to watch it live, let alone pay for a ticket to see it...

Just saw this on Joe Rogan & Dana's Twitters:

Looks like it will happen:

UFC PRESIDENT SAYS SHOGUN TO GET IMMEDIATE REMATCH

Current Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight titleholder Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida defended his belt for the first time Saturday in front of 16,000 fans at the Staples Center in Los Angeles against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.

He got the win, but the fight ended in a somewhat controversial decision. UFC president Dana White confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that Rua would get an immediate rematch.

"An immediate rematch for Shogun," said white. “I think there will be a rematch in that fight. I talked to both of them and they both agreed to a rematch.”

Rua voiced his opinion at the post-fight press conference that he's welcome to a second bout with the champion.

“Of course I’m thinking about a rematch ever since the fight, and if that’s Dana’s wish and Lyoto’s wish, I’ll fight him anywhere, anytime, wherever. It’s just a matter of people wanting to put the fight together," said the former top ranked 205-pounder in the world.

Machida also expressed that he'd take the immediate rematch. “Of course if the UFC decides we should have a rematch then let’s have a rematch," said the champion.

White feels the rematch will live up to expectations.

“You never want to hear people booing the main event. It’s unfortunate. That’s why I truly believe, I think this will be a good rematch," White told the media following UFC 104.

"I think they’re both going to come in and not make the same mistakes they made this first fight. They’re going to come in and each one is going to try to win decisively.”

“I’m pretty confident the rematch will be a different fight for both guys," said the UFC president. “I guarantee the next fight is going to be much different.

“I think that the second fight will be the fight we want to see," White added. “I love this rematch. I think it’s a great rematch.

disagree i think the first fight was fascinating, and the rematch will be even more so. Machida knows Shogun can beat him. Can he stop the leg kicks? Shogun will eventually get over it, have his kid, then get refocused knowing he can have the better of the stand up. But will the same strategy work twice. How will Machida counter it? how will Shogun counter this?

Prediction is Shogun by TKO Round 4

it will be a diff fight next time

machida will have to adapt knowing he can be beat playing his current game, and shogun will have to go for the kill

he usually does, but he knew how to beat machida by letting him come to him, and being patient (unlike shogun, but shows he can do both)

shogun would of finished machida, but he was playing it safe cos his corner rightly so thought he was winning the fight

next time shogun won't let it go for a decision and will go for the finish, but this is where machida is most dangerous

so yea it will be an interesting fight
