Microsoft Xbox 360

What Id like to see is the external power brick built in, and the machine to be much quieter.

aaaahhhh now i get you - sorry mate,

You mean it was easy for m$ to mod the current console 2 get the new v2 one.

I mean it could easily be a fake. Modding the HDD and the cooling system are easy. The HDMI would probably be hard but theres no evidence of it working. Theres a video out now but it doesnt really prove anything.

The machine will not get quieter. Most people think its the fans making all that noise when its really the DVD-ROM and the only way to make that more quiet would be to slow it down, which wont be done as the console specs have a 12x DVD-Rom drive speed.

decided on the "sun" faceplate and also finally picked up pes6 + the "strategy"-guide for 50€

Xbox 360 and Microsoft TV: Together Expanding the World of Games and Entertainment

In a move that will combine the power of Xbox 360 with Microsoft TV IPTV Edition, Bach provided an early look at a new service, IPTV on Xbox 360. The offering is expected to deliver world-class TV experiences such as digital video recording capabilities, with gaming, movie viewing, and even voice and video communications. Tapping into an expanded set of entertainment experiences, users will be able to watch their favorite sporting event live while chatting with their friends, for example, or participate in a match on Xbox Live® while they record a TV program in the background. IPTV on Xbox 360 is expected to be available to consumers by holiday season 2007 and will be offered by providers that are deploying TV services based on the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software platform.

“Our goal is to make entertainment more personal, more interactive and more social,” Bach said. “IPTV on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live are powerful examples of ways we are bringing together the worlds of gaming, TV viewing and community to make it easy for people to access and discover their favorite content and share their personal experiences with the communities they are part of.”

Microsoft TV IPTV Edition continues to strengthen its position in the market with deployments under way with five of the world’s largest service providers and trials with 11 additional companies, representing a footprint across 14 countries on four continents.

Bach also showcased the strong momentum behind Xbox 360 and highlighted the company’s success in delivering high-definition viewing experiences with HD DVD. Exceeding expectations by hitting the 10.4 million-console-sold mark this holiday season, Xbox 360 is the leading next-generation games and entertainment platform. It is also the largest social network in the living room, with 5 million Xbox Live members.

In addition, strong sales of the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player and strong demand for downloadable movies and television programs are a clear indication that increasing numbers of consumers see Xbox 360 as an ideal device for connecting to a broad range of entertainment experiences. In just over a year, people have downloaded more than 100 million pieces of content to their Xbox 360 consoles, which include game content, television shows and movies.

They will need to increase the size of the HD then if they are planning this kind of thing

They're planning to release a new version of Xbox 360 with 120GB HDD and HDMI port at the end of the year, it was rumoured last week, now IPTV makes it obvious!

This basicaly a digital TV version of Media Center.
You can already do all these things apart from the HDTV and suscription channels.

The real worry is the bandiwth in UK, with most ISPs bar Cable having caps in place....

I'll think the broadband scene in the UK will change. I remember reading that Pipex and other companies are in the process of "rewiring" the phone lines round the UK to newer technology to allow for higher bandwidth at an affordable price. More people are using the Internet more than they watch TV.

you really think its awful? was playing it quite a bit today at work, thought it was ok. Enjoyed playing it and the graphics look excellent.

I've heard four people talk about Lost Planet, two say it's almost as good as Gears Of War and two say it's utter, utter shit. How the hell...? :|

Can we have some mini-reviews in here please? You start, Matherto and Adonis... ;)

I saw the advert, and it looked brilliant, really attractive and stunning, quite frankly it looks terrible. Maybe I'm just too used to/spoiled by Gears, but it's really not very good. I might've known because it's developed or whatever published Capcom, it reminds me of something you'd play in an arcade. The idea that these aliens have something valuable in their arse is also fairly rediculous/stupid, and the aliens themselves don't look terrific (again, maybe Gears influences my view). The gameplay is faintly terrible, I got to a bit where there are things flying around the air as if they are dragons, and it seems all you could/should be doing is randomly fire. It's just generally not a good game.

Still, it is just my opinion, Jack you know what I was like with FIFA, so play it for yourself and see what you think.

Ok, well imo the start was very good, and the more you play the more you want to keep playing.

Theres a short intro at the start and you are pretty much thrown straight into it. The graphics imo look lovely. The snow is realistic, and the blizzards which come and go really made me think 'wow'. You face a pretty big creature very early, and it hit me around the 3rd time that its best to run from it. Many of the guys got frustrated with that part because it seems you have to kill it as the weak spots are visible, but I shit myself and ran anyways :p

The controls are easy enough and responsive. Animations on a whole are very neat, but I dont like the way the hero wiggles his ass about when running. A bit off-putting, even if it doesnt look camp one little bit. Just odd.

I also like the idea about the temperature indicator on the top left. Its something else to think about, and adds to the whole idea that you're in a extremely cold place.

The 'dragons' like matherto called them look very cool. They swarm around you, and the way they move is nicely animated. The fact they always give you temperature powerups when you kill them adds incentive to kill everything rather than run.

I dunno, I really like the game. Im not too far in right now, but I really cant wait to see what the later levels look like.

Ash, I think most people would say that it's better than PDZ, but that it would have to be an incredible game to beat GOW. It's going to take a really special studio to beat it.

EDIT: Just played the demo. Yuck. Very Capcommy, don't like it at all. All you do is run and shoot, there's no strategy or fun or meaning to it. And having to pick up the stuff that these aliens drop when you shoot them... It's Pacman with guns.

Wouldn't recommend...!

Oh yeah, dont play Virtua Tennis either. Its just Pong but better. ;)
That's different though, you can hit the ball with different spin, different angles, lob, run to the net, stay at the baseline, choose a character, create a character, have a career, play in different environments. In this, you get a multitude of guns that are all the same, you run around and you shoot. When the things die, you pick up something (equivalent to picking up a coin in Mario or a ring in Sonic) and carry on shooting - it doesn't seem to be skilful, or meaningful, or anything really. Just running and shooting.

I did think the graphics were quite good, though!

I like how you're very specific with the Virtua Tennis examples and very vague about Lost Planet.

Adonis, is it better than Perfect Dark Zero and GOW?

like Jack said, better than PDZ but nowhere near Gears.

Ive played it a bit more and have gone off it a little bit, but still want to get further to see whats next. If I was going to review it Id give it 7/10.

And this is different from any other shooter how? For fucks sake Jack, GEARs of War was guns, running around and shooting, picking up things from dead enimies(i dont give a flying fuck if it was ammo your still picking things up from them) and carry on shooting. At least in Lost Planet I can hop in a mech from time to time and not just cling to every freaking wall like GOW.

I find Lost Planet to be miles ahead of GOW for creativity and innovation. GOW was just Unreal with duck and cover, highly overrated just like Halo.
