Microsoft Xbox 360

And this is different from any other shooter how? For fucks sake Jack, GEARs of War was guns, running around and shooting, picking up things from dead enimies(i dont give a flying fuck if it was ammo your still picking things up from them) and carry on shooting. At least in Lost Planet I can hop in a mech from time to time and not just cling to every freaking wall like GOW.

I find Lost Planet to be miles ahead of GOW for creativity and innovation. GOW was just Unreal with duck and cover, highly overrated just like Halo.

yeah but at least GoW felt like a solid, A-list title

Lost Planet makes you think that in 5 seconds youre gonna be asked for more credit, it looks and feels like a kiddish arcade game

Gears Of War nailed the gameplay aspects though - whether they had been done before in a game or not, they were all implemented perfectly, everything was spot-on (i.e. no dodgy bugs, no having to navigate a frustrating menu just to change gun or whatever). Lost Planet just doesn't feel as polished. And as for picking up ammo from dead soldiers; I'd prefer that to picking up glowing footballs. But maybe that's just me...

Also, you don't HAVE to cling to every wall in GoW - in-fact I rarely do that online. I will hide around a corner and then take someone out when they run up, but that is realistic, is it not? And I love that, waiting and waiting, and then you see someone coming, but they don't see you... Fabulous.

You like what you like, but Lost Planet just feels like a GoW-clone done badly to me.

You've missed the fact that they're both third person shooters where you shoot alien-like creatures then...?

Ok then if you going to be this asinine about it. GOW is an Unreal clone, since well you shoot aliens. GOW is also a Halo clone since again, you shoot aliens. GOW is a Duke Nukem Time to Kill(didnt think I'd throw this one in here did you?) clone as it was third person and a shooter of aliens. GOW is a MDK clone since well, you can guess it aliens + shooter. Hell, I guess this also makes GOW a Rachet & Clank clone since you shoot aliens in third person in that game as well. Since we are being stupid, its a clone of almost any shooter where you shoot aliens, which you seem to have forgotten is pretty damn close to all shooters.

Seriously, you're just being stupid and acting like a GOW fanboy at this point. GOW and Lost planet each have their own gameplay system that is nothing alike. They both have their own distinct setting, which has only one similarity, "aleins".

Do you call Forza a NFS clone since you race cars and can customize them in both games? No you don't and if you do...........I dont know what to say.....

Calling something a clone based only on the fact that its third person and you shoot aliens is rather daft in my opinion, no make that ignorant.

I didn't say GoW wasn't a clone of anything, in-fact I've already said that it doesn't do anything new, so don't go off on a rant. I was simply giving my opinion, which is that GoW takes the best parts of every previous FPS, which makes it a really good game. I personally couldn't stand Halo and I'm not at all interested in the next one, and usually I cannot stand FPS's as I've played them all before, but something about GoW keeps you playing. You know that there's going to be no annoying glitches or bosses, which is the reason I love MGS - you don't get stuck and frustrated and play something else instead, because it doesn't get like that. It's a challenge, but it's not repetitive. GoW is nothing new, but it does everything that it does perfectly.

I'm not a fanboy by any means, I'm old enough and wise enough not to go down that path. A few years ago I wouldn't have looked at an XBOX without feeling dirty - at this point I will try anything, which included Lost Planet, and I think it's poor. Which I'm allowed to think, and say on a forum of opinions.

You're the one defending this to death, if you were going to give anybody the fanboy label I'd press "preview post" the next time you write something...

I didn't say GoW wasn't a clone of anything,
I didnt say you did, but I just thought if you could be so ignorant to call Lost Planet a GOW clone, I could go on and on with games GOW is a clone of according to your definition of something thats a clone.

What Im getting hyped about is your ignorance of calling Lost planet a GOW clone, which it certainly is not. Thats not being a fanboy, thats just me wanting to slap you in the face for being so retarded.

Swift edit you did there... :freak:

Well, my argument is in the post above. I think GoW does everything perfectly, whereas in Lost Planet for example, I dislike the aimer moving from left to right before your character moves - it takes some getting used to and I just don't like it - the enemies, to me, are boring and not any kind of challenge, I dislike collecting things (which you don't have to do in GoW, even for ammo, if you play your cards right), etc... What I was trying to say is that GoW has leeched from several FPS's to make one great one, adding nothing new in the process, whereas I see Lost Planet as doing the same thing except nowhere near as well (there's a few features from GoW that I believe should be in every FPS, including the option to duck, cover etc. - and in Lost Planet there is the new feature of the aimer moving slightly before your character moves, which I dislike and which would have put me off Gears of War).

I'm not trying to get into a fanboy's argument here. I don't like this "I want to slap you" stuff, for fucks sake, that's just weird that you're getting that bothered over a review, even if it doesn't fit in with your way of thinking. I'll stop now, I was just giving my view on things. Play what you like - I mean, you're one of the few in this place who will even try a demo of FIFA.

Its not about fitting into my way of thinking. Its about your clone reference that doesnt fit into place, thus making it a pure shit review. Why, because now for somebody who hasnt even played it but has played GOW, they think its a clone of GOW, which its not.

Like I said above and I would like you to answer this.

Is Forza a NFS clone since it has car racing and car customizing?

If you say no then you might want to rethink about when you said Lost Planet is a GOW clone based on the fact they both are third person shooters with aliens.

I've tried to explain what I meant above.

Sorry if I've worded anything wrong; "clone" was probably the wrong word. My point is that if Lost Planet had the same mechanics as GoW, I would enjoy it (as the setting looks graphically beautiful), but the way the character moves, the menu system, the lack of exciting enemies etc. really puts me off. I love anything realistic, which is why I thought I wouldn't like GoW, but it's exciting. Lost Planet just seems to have dull enemies, to me.

Anyway, like I've said, that's my opinion and I'll leave it at that. There's a demo so everybody can play it and see if they enjoy it.

New topic (no more flaming please ;)): Anybody else played World Championship Snooker 2007 yet? Loving it! It's almost the same as the previous WCS, but there's a few new bits and bobs that make it so much better. I was worried about the sound of the new aiming marker (that shows you where your cueball is going to stop) - I thought it sounded way too easy, but it's not. It's not always accurate (the dot expands when you're going to hit the ball harder, so you don't know where it's going to end up exactly), but what's great is that while you can build up a good break (I've managed 70-something so far), if you get drawn against a professional you can't leave them ANYTHING, or you're toast. Speaking of the career mode, there's several new tournaments, licensed as well (which is a nice touch).

Online play is great as well - I'm addicted to it at the minute!

Why wont you answer my question above? Could it be that you see you cant call something a clone based on simple things such as those? All I wanted and got hyped up over was for you to admit it was wrong to call Lost Planet a GOW clone based on such silly things as them both being third-person shooters with aliens. Now in your last post its nice to see your not acting like they are the same, clones; as you make it very clear they play very differently(which is why I got so upset when you called it a GOW clone in the first place).

And let me apologize for the flame-bait and/or flames. :)

I've answered you, haven't I? Apologies for wording it wrong but I've explained why I used the word "clone" above. Lost Planet is one of those games I really want to play when I look at it, and I have played the demo a few times over the last few days, but after a few minutes of playing it (unlike GoW) there's too many things that put me off such as the aimer and the enemies - exactly the same as the old FIFAs, funnily enough ("oooh look, Tranmere, I'll play it for a while - I don't mind Stockport playing like Brazil on five star, and the defenders never moving, and my goalkeeper never moving, and the opposition goalkeeper saving everything - damn, I can't play it any more" - and yet the next day I'd want to play it again).

Anyway, back to the snooker - does anybody have any advice regarding side-spin? I'm way too nervous to use it because the cueball always goes off on it's own accord and the ball I was trying to pot goes the completely wrong way - when do you use it?

Snookers a game of mathematics, for every action there's a reaction, sidespin is just a another sum, you have to make up for the velocity of the ball and its rate of spin and adjust the point of contact based upon those, isn't there a practise table you can experiment on?

Heh, do you know if that game is coming Stateside? Someone told me it was then someone else told me it wasn't.

I haven't played Gears of War, however i have played Lost Planet and i think it's amazing, especially the grappling hook, that's kickass, I wish you could jump and grapple at the same time though then you could be like Spiderman.

Guys let it go, will make you feel better then this pointless discussion about who is right and who is wrong, nobody cares.

Havent played the snooker game, but then i never did get playing a game like this when you can go down to your local snooker palace and play the real thing.

Erm, I think we have tik...? :freak:

The thing about the snooker game is that you can simulate matches against the greats. Yeah you can go and play it for real down the road, but you can with football as well - but you can't play Man United, can you?

I've never understood spin - backspin and topspin I get, but sidespin just confuses me totally. If I ever do it, then I'll get the cueball in a decent place but I'll never pot a ball.

Dermot, it's apparently not being released in the US due to a lack of interest in the last one. I don't know if it's region-free either... And there is a practice table, but you can't select a certain situation or whatever, you just play a match against yourself and get advice (but whenever you're advised to put sidespin on, you're not really told why).

Thats good Jack, couldnt be bothered to read the last couple of posts

Sidespin is great, ive used it (in the real game) to hit the white around a ball thats blocking my direction. One time i even managed to pot a ball using this technique. Usually i only use it as a last resort when snookered and nothing else is up for grabs. There's also 2 ways, atleast i use two ways, to do side spin. One is the obvious hit to ball on the side and bend it like beckham way and the other is, when the ball is near the edge of the table, to hit it on the side of the back of the top of the ball, This will bend it and slow it down to give the bend more direction over a shorter distance. Fancing playing a match now, real one :D

Give it a rent - if Gears of War has changed your life then I doubt it will be action-packed enough for you, but as a simulation it is absolutely fantastic. The commentary (although VERY repetitive) makes me laugh as well.

"Hang on a minute...

I think I've lost me pen! OH HOLD ON!! I've found it."

:D

"I'm glad this microphone's still working, I dropped it earlier"

:lmao:

My 360 has gone tits up again, what a fucking shed of a console!

Mine's been alright since day one, thank God, but it makes you think doesn't it? I've never had a single problem with any console that I can remember, apart from the laser on a PS2 going (due to being played on 24 hours a day, and even that was easy enough to fix yourself).

Funny enough, my TV's gone on the blink and so I have nothing to play the 360 on for a week or two. They don't make things like they used to...

Is it under 12 months old? Either way, try to get your retailer to replace it rather than MS. I have heard that even after 12 months, GAME and others are still replacing. Keep trying

I rung the shop I bought it from at the start of November and they said they could do nowt for me. So its heading off to M$

I traded Lost Planet in for Project 8 the day after I got it

and only played Project 8 for the first time yesterday

I'm surprised by just how good the graphics are, not just good for a THPS game, but good by 360 standards, plays nicely aswell

what do other people think of it?

Guys has anyone bought/rented World Championship Snooker? I love snooker games but have read some real average reviews.

Diego, I personally think it's brill - the only game I'm playing on the 360 at the moment. I think the reviews are too quick to point out that it's not too different from the last version, but if you've not played that - or, if like me, you just want the up-to-date career mode with more tournaments and new players - then you should like it.
