Just got my 360 back. Well, I say my 360...

There was a letter with it explaining that, in order to get me "back in the game quicker", they have replaced my 360 with a replacement unit. Refurbished jobby, then. But it's not all bad news; it's the quietest Xbox I've ever heard (although that could be a bad thing), and it's all working so far. Plus I get a brand spanking new three-year warranty with it. Can't argue with that!! :D

Lucky you.

I'm sending mine for repair tomorrow. I could be without it for a month. Damn. Gonna miss online gaming a lot (Gears of War in particular).

Better to have it fixed than to throw you out in the middle of an online game and lose achievements, like mine was doing.

@ jack, did you check the manufacturing date at the back? Or do they just place a new date on it? Am curious what the dates are, compared to your original one. Good news that you get 3years warrenty again, guess it means we will always be able to keep updating our boxes as im sure none will be able to last the full 3 years.

It's an entirely new console (new as in different from my old one, at least - it seems to be new, but you'd have to imagine it's a refurb). The manufacturing date on my old one was August 2006, the manufacturing date on my new one is September 2006 - and the serial number is different too.

All seems well so far. It's nice to have it back again, I'd forgotten what it was like to be able to play a decent game whenever you feel like it!

Microsoft cuts costs, analyst predicts price drops

As soon as the first peep of a price drop had left Sony's camp, all eyes have been on Microsoft as to their next move. Dean Takahashi of the San Jose Mercury News may just have the first response: lower production costs via smaller chips. According to Takahashi, Microsoft is currently cooking up microprocessors of the 65-nanometer variety, as opposed to their current 90-nanometer process.

A process that would not only cut the cost of producing the Xbox 360, but also result in less heat being generated by the console itself. Something that, in light of their recent warranty debacle, Microsoft should be very interested in looking at. Auxiliary benefits aside, we're much more interested in hearing about how this could affect the retail price of the Xbox 360. In a brief comment to Next-Generation, Peter Moore gave a decided non-answer on the subject, stating "We have a bunch of different projects that cost reduce and improve quality as you find issues, as does our competition."

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is much more optimistic about a price drop, expecting $50-70 cuts for all Xbox 360 models as soon as this week. How are the odds looking in his favor? Should he be a betting man, Mr. Pachter can probably be found at his desk, scoping out prices for trips to Tahiti.

Typing messages on Live is about to get a whole lot easier. On September 4, MS will release their Xbox 360 Messenger Kit, which will include a keyboard add-on and a new headset to work with it for $29.99.

This will allow users to quickly type messages to their friends, use the 360's built-in MSN Messenger, and make their controllers super huge.

I probably would have bought that if it meant I didnt have to buy another headset to go with it. I already have the wired and the wireless one. I dont want another one for this.

Aug 24th xbox 360 elite being released in europe

While we're at E3 playing Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, you can play it at home! As part of Microsoft's "E3: Bringing it Home" program, gamers will get a playable demo of the game later this week.

Gamers will remember last year this program brought them a demo of Lost Planet and a ton of other content. Sony might be running a similar program, though it's uncertain if we'll see any demos of upcoming games.

New Xbox Codenamed Falcon.
Not being mentioned yet tho on E3.

Its great they are showing all the System and game companys live conferences on tv over here.
Just sucks about the advert breaks.

Bloomberg is quoting Microsoft Game Studios President Shane Kim as saying that his company needs to lower the price of the Xbox 360 to attract more consumers. "We need to compete effectively for that customer and part of that is getting to the mass market price point for the console. We definitely are working on that area.," Kim told the financial news site.

The article gives no indication of when or how much the reduction will be, so this is pretty much just confirmation that the price cut we all know will happen eventually will ... happen eventually. Still, it's nice to know that some Microsoft higher-ups are paying attention to the issue.

That price drop has nothing to do with the fact that they've announced the Elite will be released in Europe in August then?

Colored Xbox 360 controllers

The Scene It controllers aren't the only cue that Microsoft has been taking from Nintendo lately. The coral pink Xbox 360 controller, along with the powder blue, just scream for you to pick them up and say, "Awwww." It's just the perfect color for that girl in your life ... or pastel lover. No word when these will release though you'd think there'd be signage or something like that. Just remember, you can always make your own.

And Ace Combat 6, just got done playing it, not too bad, although 3rd person is pretty poo, hopefully the series does allow for 1st person cockpit view?

Konami exec. says Metal Gear Solid may go to other consoles

Konami executive Kazumi Kitaue, head of Konami North America and European ops, dropped a bombshell today saying that Metal Gear Solid 4 may move to other consoles in an attempt to recoup development costs. He also said the PS3 price drop may not turn the ship around. The natural assumption, given the console hardware technology, is that Metal Gear Solid 4 will see its day on the Xbox 360, destroying one of the final feathers in Sony's hat of exclusives.

In regards to the PS3 price cut, Kitaue unleashes the backhand with quickness. "I don't expect a substantial impact ... with $500, you can buy a person computer," Kitaue told Reuters. It's been surprising to see the mainstream media pick up on the $100 price drop without acknowledging that there is a new "better" model at the same price which caused all the calls for a price drop in the first place.

But for gamers, the first acknowledgment that Metal Gear Solid might find its way to other consoles is what's really going to shake things up. Kitaue says, "Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps." Whether those steps are announced this week or if this is some last ditch effort by Konami to force Sony to pony up exclusivity cash, which they say they do not do, is worth wondering about. If MGS goes to the Xbox 360 ... well, all eyes will be on Final Fantasy XIII as the last famous third-party man standing.

You can use an in-cockpit view. Not sure how cause I haven't played it but I was watching my brother play it earlier and he had an in-cockpit camera angle
