Microsoft Xbox 360

I sent loads of emails complaining every time if they even bothered to reply it would be contact xbox support. Its a complete waste of time mate.

So I called them this morning. First they said it'll cost me £85. I was like, because it's making a hissing sound? Do you charge £85 for repairing a console no matter how minute the problem is? They guy replied in the affirmative. I was gonna pay for it. I had the card in hand, then, he told me to hold. Next thing you know, he says, as a good-will thing, we'll do it for free. I was pleased, but seriously, they've gotta treat their customers better. Gonna take them an age though. Maximum 25 days. Damn.

If Microsoft were honest the figure would be a pretty huge percentage. I'd love to know what it actually is.
A friend who works in the games industry sent me THIS LINK this morning. I wonder if it's true.

I'm sure it's more accurate than Microsoft's official estimation anyway.

I reckon a good 30% + is more likely the Failure figure as JB's article suggests. Ive heard this mentioned on Eurogamer before.

Microsoft announced today they are extending all Xbox 360 warranties to three years, a policy that not only applies to new consoles but retroactively, as well. If you've had to pay for Microsoft to repair the red ring issue in the past, they will pay you back. At 2:30 p.m. PST, Microsoft will hold a teleconference to announce this.
"As a result of what Microsoft views as an unacceptable number of repairs to Xbox 360 consoles, the company conducted extensive investigations into potential sources of general hardware failures," said the company in a statement. "Having identified a number of factors which can cause general hardware failures indicated by three red flashing lights on the console, Microsoft has made improvements to the console and is enhancing its Xbox 360 warranty policy for existing and new customers."

This comes just after 1UP's own story about a man who's gone through 12 different machines since purchasing an Xbox 360 near launch, reports overseas of companies refusing to repair the hardware because the load is so overwhelming and responses from the Forza Motorsport 2 team about users experiencing hardware failures while trying to play that game.

"The majority of Xbox 360 owners are having a great experience with their console and have from day one. But, this problem has caused frustration for some of our customers and for that, we sincerely apologize," said Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's Entertainment & Devices Division. "We value our community tremendously and look at this as an investment in our customer base. We look forward to great things to come."

Microsoft says they'll be taking a "$1.05 billion to $1.15 billion pre-tax charge to earnings for the quarter ended June 30, 2007 for anticipated costs under its current and enhanced Xbox 360 policies."

It is about time. However this is a very very good move by Microsoft, they simply could not allow this to continue.

Partial list, massive E3 2007 lineup
Posted Jul 5th 2007 3:15PM by Ross Miller
Filed under: Nintendo DS, PC, Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation 3, Portable, Sony PSP, Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, Business, Mobile

In light of next week's E3 summit, EuroGamer has compiled a list of games that will be at the show. Though already a pretty massive list, you'll notice more than a few "to be announced" spots. We've gone ahead and added a few publicly-confirmed titles we know to be missing from the list, but consider this a primer for what lies ahead in the very near future.

Joystiq will be on-hand at this year's E3, giving up sleep for the chance to play every single piece of software with (or without) a title screen. Lineup listed after the break.

Great news on the warrenty part. Havent had any problems, but atleast i know that ill be able to get it repaired for free when it does eventually go. They needed to do something because even people who really enjoyed their 360 were starting to give up on it, while the persistent complaints has had to effect the sales.

Adn the dutch national news actually said the 1/3 failure rate. Would think they would have to have good sources to mention that. In the peter moore interview on gamesindustry.biz he said that we will be seeing the numbers.

No? Oh even better then. Never had any experience with MS for faulty box.....yet. So i assumed you needed a bill to show when you bought it. For the early releases it wont be such an issue, but if you have bought a year old version (i think mine was bought 6 months after the fabrication date) then how are they to determine whether youve had it for 3 years? For example mine could go tits up after 35 months after purchase, but that would be 41 months after fabrication. How will they/i be able to confirm my warrenty without a bill? They could just point to the fabrication date and say my warrenty has run out, even though i would still have a month left as it starts when you buy it. Thats what the bill will be for when you buy it from the shop surely. The bill is usually also the warrenty document.

I got my 360 from Action Replay and the receipt they provide is well cheap. There’s absolutely nothing on that small piece of paper. What a joke.

@ jay: Do you register when you first start the box up (new signin for live etc)?, think i might have done, but cant remember tbh.

US, July 6, 2007 - By the time Virtua Fighter 5 is released on Xbox 360, more than six months will have passed since its PlayStation 3 debut. That time is being well spent as SEGA and developer AM2 are bringing an online component to the renowned series. That's right, VF5 will be Xbox Live compatible with a two-player online versus mode. You may begin rejoicing.

Players can build a custom character in the expanded Quest Mode before taking their fighter online to do battle. Not only will you fight for glory (and a place on the Leaderboards), but for prizes and in-game cash that can be used to buy new accessories for your character. Quest Mode allows gamers to create unique names and mottos for any of the 17 playable characters in Virtua Fighter 5. They can then purchase clothing and other accessories to personalize their fighter. This can go to great extremes in some cases, with two versions of the same character looking almost nothing alike. So expect to come across some unique variations on some of your VF favorites when playing online.

"Virtua Fighter 5 is the most intense fighting experience available on next-generation consoles," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America. "The addition of online multiplayer support opens up the competition to a global scale enabling players to compete and challenge anyone, anywhere, anytime, using Xbox Live."

Virtua Fighter 5 on 360 will use the most recent arcade update and feature all the improvements of Version C. The PS3 release used Version B. Gamers can also enjoy an improved Dojo Mode that includes online leaderboards, improved throw escape training, and the ability to change your opponent's stance and recovery type.

But really, the big news is the addition of Xbox Live. We managed to grab a few minutes of time with Yoshihiro Tsuzuku, Director at AM2, for a brief Q&A about Virtua Fighter 5's online compontent.

IGN: Lag can kill a fighter. What steps are being taken to ensure a smooth play session online?

Yoshihiro Tsuzuku: It's impossible to get rid of the lags completely. It's hard to answer to your question in a single word, but we are assuming various conditions and making necessary adjustments to find the best way.

IGN: Is the Quest mode going to allow for online players or is online its own specific mode?

Tsuzuku: The Quest Mode is single player and you can fight a battle immediately by simply visiting the virtual shop and selecting a rival CPU. The CPUs in Xbox 360 version are better tuned than the PS3 version, so they will be more human-like and stronger. Moreover, the online battle will be based on the VS Mode. Please look forward to it.

IGN: Is it going to be just standard arcade fighting, or are there any other unique modes being added for online?

Tsuzuku: The following 5 performances are featured as the online elements.

1. Human vs human online battle using the VS Mode and Xbox Live.
2. Ranking of the above online battle.
3. "Score Attack" Ranking in Arcade Mode.
4. "Clear Time" Ranking in Arcade Mode.
5. "Clear Time" Ranking in Dojo Mode.

Also, we are considering uploading the replay data for some of the Rankings.

We are planning on making the online battle simple and fun.

IGN: Are there any Achievements linked directly to online play?

Tsuzuku: The settings in Achievement are currently under consideration.

IGN: Will there be any special unlockables linked to online play or any other rewards specific to playing on Xbox Live?

Tsuzuku: Some gamers do not have an online environment, so we are wondering if we should take it or not. It's under review now.

IGN: Any plans to release a demo before the game ships?

Tsuzuku: Our team is looking into it, stay tuned for more details.

Virtua Fighter 5 ships for Xbox 360 this fall.

Reminder: Bungie Day goodies on XBLM tomorrow

Tomorrow is Bungie Day for the Halo 3 developer, as they've celebrated every July 7 in recent memory. Since it will be 2007 (i.e. 7/7/07, or triple 7s), there is some "extra special content" coming to Xbox Live Marketplace, according to the developer's website, in addition to new content on Bungie.net itself.

As to what the goodies will be, exactly, Bungie isn't saying -- "don't get too excited, it's not Halo 3," said the newsbrief. We're predicting gamertag pictures, themes, and the like, of either Halo, Marathon or their long-running joke Pimps at Sea.

Regardless of what the content is, there's only a small window of opportunity, as the mysterious content will only be available from 5:00 am ET until 3:00 am on Sunday.

Xbox 360 Xenos GPU shrinks to 65nm this fall

xenos_gpu_90nm.jpg

We know the 65nm version of Xenon, the Xbox 360's triple-core CPU, had been delayed from Q1 2007 to "mid-2007," just missing being used in the Xbox 360 Elite, making irony the system's most prominent feature. But the CPU isn't the only thing getting shrunk: DigiTimes reports that the Xbox 360 will be equipped with a 65nm Xenos GPU this fall as well, with production of the new graphics chips scheduled for May. For those of you on the fence about the Elite, a newer, cooler, and cheaper (to manufacture) Xbox 360 should be here in the fall. The question: wait or jump in?

Old news but still definitely great news especially as i have over $600 in paypal just waiting for the updated system.

The games I'm really looking forward to are :
Assasin's Creed,Heavenly Sword,GTA IV,PES 2008,FIFA08
