Oh God, Microsoft really hate me, don't they?

I've just switched the 360 on to have a quick blast of Forza (360 connected via VGA cable) and my TV says "Mode Not Supported". After working with the VGA cable fine for over a year. :|

I've tried putting the component cable in, which works fine, and then setting all of the display options to default. I plug the VGA cable back in and the TV still says "Mode Not Supported".

THIS saved the day, but why the hell has it decided to change display settings on it's own, during the night? What the hell is going to go wrong next?

Had this issue once JB when I had been using the 360 on another tv and went back to my Plasma. Well done for finding the fix. That should help anyone else with this.

Maybe your dad's been on it? I was playing him at snooker the other night. Deffo getting GTA on the 360 now then just pre ordered it.

Well there goes my console for a week or two. :(

Was in the middle of a Forza Motorsport 2 race (yes, right in the middle of a race) when the "unreadable disc error" appeared and booted me back to the dashboard. Just rang Microsoft, who (after a lot of tests - "try clearing your hard drive cache, try cleaning the discs") have arranged to pick it up.

So, no next-gen gaming for a few weeks. Apart from Mario Strikers, which is pretty brilliant.

You will be without it for 5 days max, they are getting better at the whole repair and return thing now

Not if you live in Holland, friend of mine had his die with the usual 3 rings so sent it back to MS, closest for Holland is Germany and it took 20 days not including weekends or holidays for either Holland or Germany, he only just got it back after it died 4-5 weeks ago......

Mine does that alot during Gears of War. I just ignore it and reboot the game where it usually works fine

I could have carried on with it but when it's going off in the middle of games, I don't think that's right - I don't like the idea of getting to lap 9 of a 10 lap race and then being booted back to the dashboard for no good reason.

Are you sure it's not just the disc? Does it happen with other games? Wouldn't it make sense to replace the disc and not the whole console first? Lastly where did you get it from? Just take it back if you got it from a shop and get a replacement and miss MS out totally. It seems you may be over reacting.

Obviously it happens with other discs, I wouldn't have rang them if I hadn't tested it with more than one game. I'm not that dense.

Relax, it's better to clarify things beforehand. You won't believe some people have taken back 360 controllers because the green light is spinning then turns off. LOL.

Anyway did you get it from a shop? If so they are legally bound to replace it and it saves the hassle of going through MS.

Wasn't meant to sound like I was having a go mate, just standing up for what's left of my dignity. ;) I realise that some people will take things back for reasons belonging to stupidity. My nephew bought the wireless headset and took it back the next day because it wouldn't work out of the box without being charged, and when I persuaded him to buy it again he rang me up within 24 hours saying he couldn't get it to work even when it was plugged in - not only could he not wait longer than five minutes for it to charge, but he had no idea about the sync buttons.

Unfortunately I bought the 360 via eBay - there was nothing wrong with it though originally, it was as new (bought and not used for a three months, and I've had it a month). You could tell the guy was genuine, the dashboard was an ancient version and it looked like a pearl next to my groggy 15-month-old one. But MS had no problems with it, they looked up the date of manufacture and said no problem, sounds like the disc drive has gone funny, we'll pick it up tomorrow.

I really recommend anyone who has had the 3rod and/or is out of warranty to replace their xclamps on the undersde of the xbox360's mobo.

its well worth it(parts cost about 6 quid and it works like a dream.

Did mine a few weeks ago and i havent had a single crash or anything.

Mine's out of warranty so have the tutorials bookmarked ready, haven't read them too closely but did you find the process very complicated/difficult? Would you say you have good diy/technical skills?

No episodes or extra content on the PS3 ouch.

It looks increasingly like I'll be using the PS3 mainly for MGS and PES now. As much as I dislike them, the PS controller sucks for FPS. I can't see myself playing Rainbow Six on it :(

I don't think the exclusive deal is a good thing at all. Monopoly is always a bad thing

....expect MS to charge a bomb for the downloadable content (to make up as much as possible for the 50mil)

I got both a 360 aswell as a PS3. On one hand I want GTA IV for 360 because of the extra content, but on the other hand my 360 sounds like a lawnmover in comparison to my ps3 and I think it would totally kill the mood to hear that sound when listening to some good tunes speeding away from the police.

Nah mate you will get Heavenly Sword, Rtachet & Clank, Warhawk

Yea this content is a bad thing. Maybe Sony were offerd the same for same price but realised the game is long enough already plus 50mil is ridiculous

Quick question, has anybody bought the PC "crossfire" wireless receiver (so that you can use the wireless pads, headset, steering wheel etc. on PC)?

If so, does connecting the wireless headset totally screw your sound up?

Every time I connect it, the sound from the speakers is "disabled", it's all sent down the headset (which means getting deafened) and your voice recording is so quiet that nobody can hear you.

Gutted, I really wanted to use it for Battlefield, and I can't find any decent support links on it.

same boat as you now. mine decided to give the red rings and now i'm 360less. however i opted to not get another one with my replacement plan...now i'm kinda rethinking it because when i drive around in my real car I think "damn forza2 was so much fun!"

More 360/PS3 graphics comparisons

Man Virtua Tennis 3 looks terrible on PS3!

The things is and this happened even with the ps2. the clor settings that sony has are goofy and very blah for some reason.

I have actually messed around inside the factory menus of my television and i kid you not there are things you can do to make the ps3 output look better than the 360. it's just that the 360 has already the right color pallete etc out of the box, the ps3 just needs to have it's source output tweaked 9which i did) and i new perfer ps3 games on it,but onlky because i calibrated the heck out of it.

it's more work and you can call it bogus but it's not it makes it look better.

Example

On a 360 you don't really have to tweak the color and tint but on the ps3 you have too

you want MORE tint and less color on the ps3 and you want to actaully bring down the brightness of the tv by about 20 in some instance. makes a worls of difference.
