Master League Adventures and other ML stuff 2011!

Upgrading my physio to one with a five star 'form' rating was the best couple of mill I've spent in my ML

Yeah this is high on the agenda. I presume that you can only change staff around in the pre-season, the part where you can look at new staff to sign isn't selectable at the moment, halfway through my season.

Well the transfer window has ended and I've strengthened the squad with four youth players, and offloaded eight of my awful squad players. I've now copied the default formation and tactics from the Germany national side, and applied it to my team. My first two games have now seen me bang in 11 goals! I'd recommend copying the Germany or Netherlands formations and tactics, then removing the management strategies too. It works brilliantly for me. Schwarz now has 16 goals in 19 starts, and I spent most of the transfer window fighting off offers from the likes of Man Utd and Valencia for Palmieri. I never realised he's only 16 in season 1, and already rated at 81......

So, I'm 6pts clear at the top and just past halfway, with a decent crop of youngsters all rated at 70 or so now coming to the fore and dominating teams, especially at home. I think the teams in Div 2 are especially weak though, so I'm going to hopefully expect a much tougher test in the Premier League should I get there at the end of the season. At this stage though, it's all about making more money for the club. I can't afford any transfers so far whatsoever.......

What difficulty level are you on LT ? And have you looked down the 'Loan' route ?

yeah, loans help a lot! and you should look for players which are transfer listed, and or free agents as well!

i strongly reccomend you to buy this young keeper from Genoa Perin.. he's simply amazing and the best of all, he's affordable..
oh, and try to sign Lukaku.. seems that from the 2nd season and on he'll be as expensive as Pato or Ronaldo!

Cheers for the heads up on Perin :)

I'm currently playing on Professional, it's quite cool that at any point you can alter the difficulty mid-master league, so if things end up being too easy then there's alway the option to go up a level.

I've not really explored loans as yet, I did try to get one guy (really don't remember his name now) from a French Ligue 1 team, but his club wanted something like £400,000 for a season long loan which I couldn't afford at that time. The current squad is doing well at the moment though, I'm 3 points clear at the top with 10 matches to play. If and when I go up to the Premier League there hopefully should be a massive jump in difficulty because even with my crappy players they're still scoring goals for fun in Div 2. Three straight home games have finished 5-0! All this despite some of my players being so bad that you don't feel fully in control of them, if that makes sense. Put on a friendly with a top team and the difference is massive.

Nevertheless, I like the slow, lumbering feel of a lower league match. Even my home pitch is bare and muddy, the tiny custom made stadium half empty, it's great to start from low beginnings in this.

Good points there.

There's one more "affordable" source of players - players that put contract renewals on hold. When mid-season transfer window kicks in, wait for one week max. and then search for players with 1 year only left in contract. Or make some kind of scouting-shortlist with such players way before winter transfer window, even better.
You'll see in their info whether they put contract renewal on hold or not - if they have, they are most likely unhappy with new offer from their club and probably won't extend the contract. Act fast, be persistent, you'll get them for 0€ transfer fee, only sallary to negotiate. Even if they refuse your offer during winter-break, keep sending your offers during second part of the season, you'll get them. Unless they want to move in some bigger club than yours, ofc. :)

One question - is it possible to change your home stadium during ML, i.e. get yourself bigger stadium as you progress? Will the changes reflect in ongoing ML save? Many OF editings (player stat tweaks, formation tweaks, etc.) do not appear in ongoing MLs, new ML has to be created.

That's a very good question, I've assumed you can change it, but haven't actually tried it. I might give that a go tonight, see what happens. I'd imagine that stuff can be changed so long as it doesn't interfere with the in-game stats once ML has started. So far as I know, the game doesn't take into account your stadium's capacity when calculating your gate reciept income, so hopefully it shouldn't be a problem. I have been looking forward to taking my club further, then either rebuilding a bigger stadium or moving to one of the default ones in the game.

Come to think of it, with the stadium editor now in place, there isn't any reason why Konami can't incoporate stadium improvements into the ML game mode in later versions of the game. Being able to start off with a generic, small stadium, then making decisions to spend hard earned money (that, say, could be used on players/wages etc) on stadium upgrades in order to generate more long term income, would be great. To be able to actually build parts of the stadium itself would be even better.

Sounds like your ML is a bit easy LTFC. If you want to make it more challenging and realistic you should sell your best players when big clubs come in for them.
I find some of the youth players you get given at the start unrealistically good (much more satisfying having to develop them to a good level yourself), so I think if Inter or whoever make a bid for Palmieri it's only right to sell him. This happens to little clubs all the time IRL.

My plan is to sell them, but only when the price goes up. Palmieri was getting bids of around £900,000 in the first transfer window, which is way too low compared to what other people on here (including Jimmy I think I recall) have said you can sell them for. I think Palmieri's value soars fairly quickly. Shimizu is crazily good for a youth player too, I'm expecting some pretty big offers for him eventually. I'm hoping to then re-invest that money more into the club than the team, to upgrade coaches, increase the fanbase etc.

It is quite easy at the moment, I've lost 3 in 24 I think, but that's more due to the fact that the teams in Div2 are the likes of WE United, Wondengine Town etc which are by far the worst in the game. I really expect the jump between Div 2 and the Premier League to be a massive one. I'd expect that the PL players will be superior physically, in terms of sprint speed, strength etc as my players, good youth players included, are so slow and weak, and take an age to control the ball, that I should struggle like a newly up and coming team should do. If I somehow start beating the top players in the game with a squad of players rated between 45-70, then something's not right with the game. But that shouldn't happen, I recently tried a European Championship tournament as Germany, who are obviously one of the top teams in the game, and the final against Spain was TOUGH. And I lost, albeit in slightly dodgy circumstances, but at least the promise is there for a bit of an initial struggle to stay in the Premier League should I get there.

You will find a big leap in class once you move to the EPL, no doubt about that. I'm suprised you never went for the full experience LT, by that I mean a Championship option file and relevant Chant Pack. It makes everything feel some more much authentic, it also ensures promotion and relegation of relevant teams.

I personally cant stand having the likes of WE United et al in the EPL or the Championship. I also really enjoyed playing against proper Championship teams, and touring their home grounds listening to their own unique fan chants. It really does add so much.

See how you go in the EPL on Professional, if your still not getting the challenge, up it to Top Player in the EPL and it will become a different world. The other option is to keep in on Pro for the EPL, but if you qualify for Europe, then knock it up to Top Player to emphasise the differential. :)

Nice idea, I'll probably do that. If I win my first run on PL games then I'll ramp it up to Top Player and pretend I did a Blackpool and took everyone by surprise before taking a nose dive later in the season ;))

Well I'm doing things the hard way, that's for sure. Finished top of Div2, with a solid performance, won 19 drew 11 lost 4, and promoted to the Premier League. I raised my funds from £2M to nearly £7M too.

However, the bulk of pre-season took place with players considering me as a Div2 club still, so no chance again on any transfers at all. The season switched into season 2, with me now officially a Premier League club, but there are only a couple of weeks before the first game. Anyways, I let go a number of players, four players retired, and fended off several bids of £3M and £2M for Schwarz and Palmieri.

Going into the first game of the season, at home to Wigan, I'm still awaiting on three bids for players (trying to home in on the three relegated teams - Blackpool, Sunderland, Wolves) so I have a ludicrously small squad - about 16 players or so, and all from the default ML and youth team, no signings at all so far, so it's gonna be tough. Added to that, I've spent a small fortune on coaches, including Minanda returning to the club as a scout (his stats are really good and costs a fraction of other similarly ranked coaches because he's a former player), and a Norwegian fitness coach who specialises in form.

We shall see what happens......

Exciting times ;)

I'm loving the offline modes...even the international modes. I think online can be good fun but there's so much to enjoy about offline (like back in the old days) that it's a shame to not play them. Fingers crossed I will finally start my ML this weekend.

Ok - so I finally started my offline Master League. Takes a while to get to your first game ;) I started with my created Adelaide United team (properly implemented stats, so their ratings range from high 50's to mid 70's. Playing on Professional...first game vs Benfica in the D2 league at my home ground, I concede a penalty. Keeper saves it onto the post and they score the rebound :( Arhhhh.

I go forward in the 2nd half with a nice through ball from the centre forward to the winger and he hits the post! Then my left wing forward weaves his way into the box with a nice little shot fake and dribble and is brought down by 3 defenders as he's about to tuck the ball home from the 6 yard box. The centre forward then has his penalty saved :(

Not an ideal start lol. But great fun so far :) I wish they could have a whole of season highlights reel in master league. That would be a nice touch...but rather memory intensive I dare say :P

I've switched consoles with PES so am gonna start another ML, can't be arsed to add the option files but just can't decide on a team to use. I was thinking about Marseille, with default ML players, and take them from an average European outfit to the top of the world, but I started it and the board give me nearly £100 million pounds right from the beginning!! :CONFUSE:

Perhaps a little easy....

I'd like a fairly well known club with a low budget and the need to upgrade coaches, develop fan bases etc. Marseille had top coaches, physios, everything.

I tried starting a ML with the likes of Ajax, a kind of big club who have gone into the European wilderness somewhat, but again the game gave you about £70 million to use right from the off. Again, too easy!

What smaller clubs do others recommend using, or are there any sleeping giants that would be kind of realistic to take back to glory?

What I did was replace the fake teams in PES and D2 league with the non affiliated club sides and started from there with my own Australian created club team :)

I've found Bologna is quite a good smaller club.
They do have some decent players but they are getting on a bit and will need replaced fairly soon- Marco Di Vaio is 34yo IIRC.
They're also ranked 120 odd with a modest budget so superstars are not exactly rushing to sign up.

I would recommend Cesena (decent squad, low ranked).

What i don't like in ML is the fact you receive offers to buy ALL your players in every single transfer window, so is easy to build a squad, then sell everyone and rebuild a better one, because they aways offer a higher fee than that you payed for a player.

Another one: youth talents such as Balotelli, Lukaku, Jovetic and Pjanic move to another club each transfer window, it's annoying

I hope you guys understand what i'm trying to say here

Set transfer frequency to low, and the issue will be solved

Take any club LT, then just blow all the cash, after you have paid your staff, on one transfer target.

Offer £60 million for Bramble, job sorted. :)

Even on low they seem to move clubs a huge amount.

High is crazy though! :CONFUSE:

i'm 3 years in master league and Inter has teh same starting line up as in 2010-2011, except Zuniga

even if it's not perfect, is a must to play a realistic ML

£60M for Bramble, haha, in today's transfer climate we might just see that happen ;)

I came back to pes and started a new ML to play with PESEdit patch. After playing a few matches in Liga Adelante, it feels like every single department in this game is scripted, the CPU works basing on these "scripts"

I'm the only who have this feeling about pes?

What do you mean by scripts? How does this seem to happen for you? Do you mean the AI is simply beating you?

I've played ML previously and it plays like friendlies or any other mode. Perhaps it's the form arrows affecting how both teams are playing in your ML.

I mean cheating :P
A few examples:

Your players moving away from the ball or a oponent (when they are counterattacking), their defense move to still the ball before your pass, the fact they already know what you players will do before he actually do.

If they have a corner, just one in the entire match, they will cross it so perfectly that your 3 defenders will not be able to cut it out and they score.

Pes 2011 is the best ever for me but the CPU in this game is really annoying sometimes :SMUG:

Liverpool Season Review 2011/12

2011 marked a sensational season for the Merseyside club, as they secured a 20th Premier League title and a 6th Champions League title. Narrowly missing out on the F.A Cup, being beaten yet again by Manchester City in the F.A Cup final 2-1 is the only dissapointing aspect to what has otherwise been a truely sensational season. We caught up with the manager after the final home game against relegated WE United where they lifted the Premier league for the second sucessive season. "The feeling of winning the EPL is great. I simply cannot describe how it feels to have guided such a strong side to the EPL and also the Champions League.""The side showed great endurance and great fight when they had to, people would say every round of the Champions League knockouts that we were the underdogs, yet we overcame the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan, and to beat Manchester United in the final really was the icing on the cake". Xabi Alonso, Liverpool's captain and talisman, was voted as the Fan's Player Of The Season. Xabi Alonso has been a fan favourite ever since his £25m move from Real Madrid."The fans are great, I have loved every second of my time at Liverpool. It has all been great, even in my 1st spell at the club when we didn't win many trophies, was great. Now we are regularly doing League and Europe doubles and the feeling is incredible. I am thoroughly delited to be a part of it.".

2012 Summer Transfers

Ins:
Ibrahimovic (£27m, AC Milan)
Henry (Promoted from Youth)

Outs:
Fernando Torres (Real Madrid, £45m)
Xavi (Real Madrid, £35m)

Managers Reaction to Torres and Xavi's departure and the arrival of Ibrahimovic

"Obviously losing such a fan favourite as Fernando was a harsh blow to the club, but it was not us that wanted him gone. The player wanted a move to his home country, he said he'd had enough of living in England. His 30+ goals a season will be missed, but in Zlatan Ibrahimovic we have a player who can give us those 30+ goals a seaon. The lad scored 33 goals last season in Serie A, which is a great achievement, and with the likes of David Silva and Babel providing support for him, i'm sure he will net 30+ this season for us.""Xavi left simply because we feel we need to move forward as a club, his age did not help him. He is still a quality player, as proved by Real Madrid, Inter and Bayern Munich all being interested in him. We wish Xavi all the best in the future."

2012/2013 season- 1st report.

The eagerly anticipated 2012/13 season has begun. The question on most peoples lips was "Can anybody stop the dominance of Liverpool F.C, or will Liverpool add to trophy cabinet and close in on Madrid's record of 9 Champions League successes?." Well the answer became apparently clear as Liverpool have wrapped up 6 successive Premier League victories and sit on the top of the EPL after 6 games, 2 points ahead of Manchester United. In the Champions League they made a solid start to Group H, after winning their first 2 group games and currently sit top of Group H. The manager was quick to keep his feet on the ground however, "We can't get too carried away with the start we have had. Yes we have played good football, but we can't take our eye off the ball. We need to keep winning and open a good gap in the table like we have done the previous 2 seasons. I think the two games against Manchester United this season may well be the deciding games this season."

Aging Maxi rumoured to be on the way out

Papers have rumoured that Argentine Maxi Rodriguez could be on his way out of Anfield after rumours have occured that the manager and the board have been looking to spend a portion of the £80m cash they got from the sales of Fernando Torres and Xavi to Real Madrid. Reported targets include Arsenal's Arshavin and Barcelona's Iniesta.

I'm playing on Top Player (10min) with Spurs and I'm using the Championship (Celtic league) option file.

I'm just about to finish my first season and I have to post about my amazing CL semi final game vs Barca.

I've made steady progress throughout the competition to date without playing that well so I was expecting a really tough game. Anyway, the first leg was at white hart lane and I was really determined not to conced an away goal. To cut a long story short I won the game 10-0!!!! I couldn't believe it, it was by far my biggest ever win on Top Player on any PES and againsy Barca!! Order has been restored since then. I won the final 2-1 against Real in a really tense match.

I'm intrigued as to whether anyone else has had any strange/amazing results? I must stress it was totally a one off, as my previous best result on any mode was 5-0.

My line up:
3-5-2
Afallay

Gallas-Dawson-Woodgate

VDV-Modric-Huddlestone-Bale
D'alessandro

Lukaku-C.Wickham

I've won a game 7-0 and 8-1 on ML, but never 10-0 against Barca! I usually follow up a huge win with a draw or a loss which shatters the illusion the game is too easy though.
