Master League Adventures and other ML stuff 2011!

I'm intrigued as to whether anyone else has had any strange/amazing results? I must stress it was totally a one off, as my previous best result on any mode was 5-0.

My line up:
3-5-2
Afallay

Gallas-Dawson-Woodgate

VDV-Modric-Huddlestone-Bale
D'alessandro

Lukaku-C.Wickham

the one I won with the largest margin was 12-1, but i can't remember against who.. i think Roma in the CL..

about your team, i absolute adore Lukaku (eventho he get injured quite easily) & Huddlestone, they're also starters in my team

Okay so I've finally started a proper ML for the second time, this time I can't be bothered editing with option files on my 360 version so I've gone with Marseille, using the default ML players (Minanda et al) and on Top Player.

Though I have £82 million in the bank, I'm investing it in coaches, scouts, and youth to begin with. Signed Schwarz, Palmieri and Schmidt to begin with, and have set the player growth to dynamic so I have to play the youngsters for them to develop. I presume this also means that if they play when out on loan, it has the same effect. Hopefully that works.

Despite having all that money to start with, I've decided to limit myself to just a handful of signings, and younger players with potential, as they're still the only players who might be willing to join. I failed to agree terms with several players in the first transfer window, but come January I'll be making bids again for Chicharito Hernandez at Man Utd, who seem happy for him to go, Affelay from Barcelona, and Jovetic from Fiorentina. All are fringe players with huge promise, and there is also Lukaku who I want to sign from Anderlecht. I'll only try and sign a couple of these in the first season as I want to struggle on in my first season with what I've got.

I'm expecting a struggle, I've never really tried Top Player and so it'll be tough. Three games in, I lost the first away to Lyon 0-1. They shaded the game but I was unlucky not to come away with a draw, which was surprising considering it's a top team on top player, I thought that would be tougher. Second, I got a 1-1 draw away at Lens, Minanda curling in a beauty of a free kick before Lens pulled level.

Third, in my first home game of the season, Llorient tore me apart in the first hour, raced into a 3-0 lead, before Schwarz scored his first ever goals to pull it back to 3-2 but that's the way it stayed.

So, three games in, one point, no new players, a slow, cumbersome team of old journeymen and rookie youth players, and a struggle is afoot. At least until the summer.......

One thing I have noticed is the AI in ML on Top Player seems more forgiving, less prone to racing all over the pitch, which is odd, because in friendlies I struggle to keep posession before being hounded off the ball, but in ML all three games have been great fun, quite slow paced but really technical games where the AI is more adventurous and leave more gaps at the back. Which is far more fun.

Anyways, my transfer targets are as follows;

Realistic, younger players I'm interested in signing as a team trying to get a bigger reputation. Hopefully I can get some of these and develop them;

Chicharito (Man Utd)
Lukaku (Anderlecht)
Pavlyuchenko (Spurs) - quite like him in PES, and they're willing to let him go, unlike Modric and Bale!
Jovetic (Fiorentina)
Affelay (Barcelona)
Sulejmani (Ajax) - a real surprise, his dribbling in PES is awesome
Wilshere (Arsenal)
Miljevic (Brescia)
Perin (Genoa)

Other youngsters worth looking at are Santon (Cesena) and Pedersen (Vitesse).

Older players to compliment the younger ones, on the cheap;

Kranjkar (Spurs) - great older 'head' to join the squad, again Spurs will let him go
Hargreaves (Man Utd)
Pienaar (Spurs)

Other players I hope to sign once I have the sufficient reputation and cash;

Canales (Real Madrid)
Modric (Spurs)
Bale (Spurs)
Drogba (Chelsea) - would be cool to re-sign him before he retires back at his old club, then maybe re-sign him as a coach if his affection for the club is reasonably high.

Anyways, that's what I'll be up to :) What is odd however is how I tried to sign Jovetic and Lukaku, but got knocked back because the players felt they would be up against too stiff competition for a place in my team, even with my old ML default players! Does anyone know how to change their minds?

thing is that you may have several other players in the positions they usually play..
it'd be great if you sign Lukaku, as he develops into some kind of monster pretty early into the game (so his salary!)

that is a powerful roster man, you souldn't have any problem beating the league!

Guys - if I set my options to let the scout handle things, does this mean he will go out and buy players for me or just look after my current list?

Ah ok, got it now. I'll have to try and trim the squad down then before trying to sign him. I think I do have quite a few players who can play in wide positions, and all of them are useless too!

Yeah a lot of those players are around the 70 mark at the moment but are very young, so they should develop into top players in the game - IF I manage to sign them.

As for the scout handling transfers, I've wondered this. I chose not to use it however, because I like to try and have as much control as possible. It's odd though that you can't decide the starting bid for a player though. The scout handles this and then you negotiate from there if you want to, which to me is odd.

I've set the transfer activity to low, does anyone use this? I'm a bit concerned that other clubs won't be making any transfers at all, though actually that might not be a bad thing. It's incredibly annoying when other clubs make bizarre transfers, like Messi to Everton or something. In FIFA11, Barcelona decided to buy Defoe and Milner, and that is silly to say the least!

There will be plenty of transfers, even on low. Other teams will start buzzing over Palmieri or Schwarz like flies around sh*t :) I started one campaign on low with Everton players and they do have some very good players ... I've been fending off offers for 6-7 players constantly during first 1.5 season (haven't advanced further).
Others still make decent amount of transfers among themselves. For example, Lukaku (Anderlecht wouldn't sell him when I tried to get him) got transfered twice within that 1.5 season (first to Lyon, then to Kazan)

About ridiculous transfers ... :) eh, it's still PES.

I have stopped a ML because i let the scout handle the transfers.
It means that you have no say in the players he buys for you...at the time i didn't like that.
Now i might try this option. IMO it's the best way to discover players...and it's more realistic.

Fair play, but I couldn't hack not being able to decide who I bid for. I'd feel like I had Roman Abramovic as my boss...

The thing I'm having trouble with is that in MLO you can trade players basically at any time...whereas with Master League you need to wait for the proper transfer windows. That's how it should be but MLO is spoiling me for choice lol.

I have my scout set to do all the work at the moment as I wanted to "play" and not manage. Just got to the end of a season and the transfer window has opened.

Do I need to search for players on the market or will the scout do all the hunting and buying for me? He just sold 3 of my players...

The scout will do all the work. In my ML with a scout, i did search players, but he simply ignored all my work, the rascal...
Now this aspect attracts me.

Haha darn rascal! Ok I will see who he picks for me. Might be a good way to check out some different players. Otherwise, I would just go for the same players that I like. To be honest, I'm going to see who he picks for me and I might end up simming most of my 2nd season until I get some better players, then play the games myself and try to win some titles.

Wow, starting in the top division, on Top Player, with ML default players is HARD. Hadn't fully realised just how truly useless almost all those players are. Turning, and basic ball control is a chore half the time. Nine games in, I'm third from bottom, no wins, four draws, five losses, only four goals scored, three from open play, and eleven conceded.

I seriously can't wait to sign some players in the mid season transfer window. I've cheekily negotiated for Valbuena to return to the club, he was still a free agent which was odd (almost all the real Marseille players are immediately snapped up seeing as using ML default players leaves the real team without a club). I'm close to negotiating a deal to sign Hernandez from Man Utd which would also be awesome. Can't take much more of the oil tanker that is Hamsun!

The way the season's going I'm going to need some more transfers. I'm just terrible with this team, they can't pass, shoot, even run. They're constantly being run off the ball and brushed aside, though I suppose half of them are rated between 40-60 and over 30 years old, so I'm kind of pleased I'm struggling badly on the top difficulty. Makes signing new players more of an incentive and something to look forward to. I'm hoping any new signings I make will give me that tiny extra bit of ability to pull away from relegation, because come the mid season break, I think I may be a little adrift at the bottom!

The Europa league and Champions league look a long way away, but that's entirely the fun!

LTFC the ML youth team is very useful when playing with default players. There's Palmieri and Schimitd (good cbs and they have some cards too) for de defense. In the midfield i usually use 3 players of youth (Shimizu and Camacho, both with Passer card and Oscar to give some strength) and Minanda/Ettori.

That would give your team more agility and 3 players with the Passer card.

yeah, i think that by using several youths you can make a great starting team

Wow LT, it doesnt get any harder than ML defaults in the top league on Top Player. I always start in the 2nd Division to give me time to build. Props for your balls.

Haha cheers, I'm really enjoying it even though I played a session on it last night and only scored one goal in about 5 matches. But the sensation you get when scoring a goal is amazing, becuase they're so hard to come by. It makes a refreshing change to most older football games where you'd win most games at a canter. Being in a relegation scrap is really good fun.

Even the crappiest of goals feel like an achievement. Palmieri grabbed a late equaliser from the rebound afer a goalmouth scramble from a corner, the shot trickled over the line after his shot was scuffed and hit the inside leg of the keeper. Not pretty, but realistic and very hard fought!

Thanks guys, I've also gone with the youth team. In the first window I signed Palmieri, Schwarz and Schmidt. I'll also get Shimizu in the transfer window, along with Valbuena and hopefully Hernandez. I'm still keeping tabs on all the players listed above and I'll try for some of the younger ones at some point, probably in the summer. The September totalling of finances pretty much wiped out half the starting money you get, so I can't just throw money about like I'd first thought. Young prospects from other clubs is the way to go too, as they seem quite frustrated at not being regulars in their respective clubs. Affelay at Barcelona would be a great signing, but they want £14 million for him, not sure if he's worth that although he could turn out to be in the future, so I don't know!

I've heard rumors that Pelaez develops in a monster midfielder, grab him from youth academy ;) Perhaps one of the goalkeepers too (Fatecha)

Amen brother. ;)

That never happened to me, i mean, in my previous ML he was already 24 years and 72 in overall, i just sold him by 14M euros and bought Kagawa :SMUG:

You will need a good goalkeeping coach if you want Fatecha to develop aswell

He problably selected the "dynamic" development, where the young players quickly become superstars and the veterans drop their stats in the same speed.

That loan thing he mentions is true btw. A few days ago Chelsea offered me 11M euros for a six-month loan on Coutinho, thats crazy!

Anyway, what's the story with dynamic development? Are young players simply developing faster (and old deteriorating faster) or is it more about players who play lots of matches develop faster?

develpment is better for players who play lots of matches, but the key in the Dynamic Development are the coaches you've got.

it doesn't matter if you have a team full of starlets as long as you got lousy coaches.. it's them who make their stats grow exponentially.. so, first thing you must have in mind is to get the best coaches as soon as possible in the game to make your player's stats skyrocket

ps, sorry if my english isnt that good :P

yeah lvl 4 Coaches are really good, but lvl5 are crazy:
your player's stats nearly increase by every match you play!

Good to know. I just started my 2nd season. I left the scouting on auto and lost my best playmaker and a good striker. But I now have a 20 year old Thierry Henry haha. Lost game 1, and drew game 2 of my new season. Although Palmieri got sold but Schmidt has come in. I have a created Adelaide United team, with realistic stats (crap generally haha) but they're growing slowly. I upgraded my scout and fitness coach but not sure if I changed the actual coach....hrmmmmm.

Well I don't know what's happened but at one point my ML team were third from bottom of the table, with a record of won 0 drawn 4 lost 6. I got hammered 4-0 at home to Lille, then suddenly after that I won my first match. After that, I drew 2-2 having led 2-0 away from home (thanks to the AI making a player I wasn't controlling poke a last gasp cross into his own net, under no pressure at all!) and then went on to win the next four in a row. Really bizarre. I barely mustered a single shot at goal in the first 11 matches now I'm suddenly winning games convincingly and have shot up the table to 12th.

Suddenly the game really doesn't feel difficult at all, even on Top Player. It's really bizarre.

Added to that, the transfer window allowed me to start my rebuilding of the squad properly, and did a massive overhaul, so the games should be even easier now. I sold a total of 8 ML default players, brought in two more youth products (the goalkeeper Fatecha and Shimizu), and brought in some experienced 'old heads' to play along side them.

So, in came Pavlyuchenko from Tottenham for £6M, Hargreaves from Man Utd for £12M (he may be crocked but is awesome in this game), Affelay and Valbuena.

The final signing I'd recommend as one of the bargains in ML, Kristiјan Miljević from Brescia. Only 18, and costing only £400,000, this guy is brilliant. His dribbling is great, and seems to get into forward positions very, very well. So far he's stolen the show.

My first game after the transfer window, with my 'new' team, and I beat PSG away from home 2-1. Despite going a goal down, Miljević equalized with a close range header on his debut, then in stoppage time Palmieri again came up from the back and won it with another close range header. That shoots me up to 11th, just 7 points off the Europa League places where I hopefully can complete the turnaround from a relegation battle 11 games in, to European qualification.

My team currently stands as;

Fatecha (GK)

El Moubarki (RB) Schmidt (CB) Palmieri (CB) Ruskin (LB)

Hargreaves (DM)

Valbuena (RM) Miljević (LM)

Affellay (AM)

Pavlyuchenko (CF) Schwarz (CF)

Afellay of course can play wide too, or in a three pronged attack, which is a great option.

Loving it so far, though still concerned the game might turn out to be too easy, five straight wins, and a reasonably easy one with my new team away at PSG doesn't indicate the league will offer much difficulty once I've added some extra young stars to my team, especially when they all start to develop.

Hey, just came back to PES after many years at FIFA - and what a breath of fresh air it is to comeback top the game that gets all the little things right , it's an amazing game.

Great Buys

Jordi Gomez
Juan Mata
Deac
Marlon Harewood (depth Striker)
Reo - Coker
Aidan McGeady
Uche

I've been finding it a bit tough the last few games. Changed it from Top Player to Professional as my team is still pretty average. The game is just not feeling very responsive. It felt better a couple of weeks ago lol. Maybe it's just my players or maybe it's because I've been playing an hour of FIFA 10 World Cup and then PES is just feeling less fluid when I play it...I should try with some top teams/players :P
