Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

And Van Nistelrooy?
To the bench after all these years?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

No, we use 4-4-2 and Rooney can play in Scholes' position.

That's what i meant by "not that likely they'll be up front together".

Also, if RvN performs as well as we all know he can, obviously he'll still be up front, on the other hand, if he continues his lemon impressions, then, yes, bench time.

Bad news, Ronaldo and Rooney both picked up knocks on right ankles, no one knows how serious though. Better not be a big deal.

For anyone who hasn't seen -

"Sir Alex Ferguson insists injuries to Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo picked up during United's 6-1 win over Antwerp are not serious."

"the United boss insists his two young starlets will be fit for next Tuesday's Champions League qualifier"

- manutd.com

Edit: - other news from manutd.com - (newspaper section now) - "Owen's agent Tony Stephens is understood to be scheduled to hold talks with Manchester United over the next 48 hours in a bid to set up a move to Old Trafford" But same article (from Daily Mirror) says Real were asking £16M!!!

United can win us the World Cup
Sven Goran Eriksson believes Michael Owen could help England win the World Cup by moving to Manchester United. Real Madrid’s £12million-rated striker is wanted by Alex Ferguson. And Eriksson reckons Owen playing alongside Wayne Rooney at club level would boost the Three Lions’ chances in Germany next summer. Eriksson said: “A move would be up to Michael but, as England coach, I wouldn’t complain if he joined United. I cannot deny this. For him to work in training every day with Rooney could only make England better. It would be great. And it would benefit my job.”

I'd happily let Utd take the title if England could win the holy grail!

big kenny is coming along okay, have you seen his goal from the half way line, literally from the kickoff!!

I think Rossi will beat him to the 1st team though cos the lad is talented.
yeah rossi is sick, im gutted he has chosen to play for italy and not the USA....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

It would be kinda weird seeing Rossi for USA cuz he was brought up in Italy so he plays like an Italian.
Still would have been nice to see him play for USA though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Well i was originally upset when we sold Butt, but it turned out not to make a huge difference. I feel for Phil, I hope he has a great season and is at least thought about for Germany. I do agree with SAF's decision though, with Smith, Keane, Phil, Fortune, O'Shea all able to play DMF, they really don't need all of them.

On a similar note, Fergie's comments about Ole were cryptic, he's feeling another part of his knee, but will continue training? Does that mean he's back to first team training already? That's good news!

And Fergie was quick to highlight Keane playign the whole match against Antwerp, looks like Smithy t'ain't starting his new role just yet.

no
he was brought up in USA born and raised until he was 14, he only lived in italy for like a year.... then went to england.... his father is italian, that is his roots to italy, he has spent 90% of his life living in america....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I hope i don't sound offensive in this post as i don't mean to be, but Americans seem (to me anyway) to have a tendency to want to be other nationalities, for example the many Irish-Americans who are more American than Irish but say they are Irish. Could be to do with America being a new country and people wanting deeper roots.

Maybe it's just that Rossi is settled in Europe (well, England now) and wants to play as much of his football in Europe as he can, or perhaps he just feels better suited to Italian play.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

If CSaunders is right and Rossi really spent 14 of his 18 years in the US, I'm surprised at his decision. They have a great soccer development program, arguably the best country-wide youth system in the world. Plus Americans are usually fiercely patriotic, and wouldn't dream of playing for any other country. I have to assume then, that Rossi was raised more wiht more Italian influence than US, because it doesn't make a ton of sense to me why he'd want to try and break intot he Italian national side instead of the US one, where he'd have no troubles. Unless he thought it somehow more prestigious (is it?) to be playing for Italy then the US, despite the US's continued success at International level in recent years. Who knows, anyone heard interviews with him, does he sound American?

well thats becasue we come from everywhere bro, not many american indians around, i half irish and qtr italian, i celebrate both cultures, you need to come to this country then you will understand, american is truly a melting pot, every country and culture is represented here.... i mean cmon there is no player in the world who woudl rather play for usa then italy, given the choice, i mean rossi is that good, so i agree with his decision, cause i would do the same thing if i had the choice, i think most players would

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

csaunders,

"we come from everywhere bro"-
Yes I realise that, thats kind of what i meant by deeper roots.

"there is no player in the world who woudl rather play for usa then italy"-
Makes sense to me that he'd wanna play with Italy - more likely to improve his game (no offence to USA). Kind of reminds me of Giggs choosing to play for Wales instead of England though. (I think he did have a choice).

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Good money for Phill Neville but it definily looks like Ballacks dead now:-

Bayern Munich star midfielder Michael Ballack has cleared up rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United by insisting that he doesn’t want to leave the Bundesliga giants. The 29-year-old German international also insists that he hasn’t held talks with any other clubs and that he would be happy to extend his contract at Super Bayern Ballack told Sky Sports: "I spoke with Bayern Munich and it was a good discussion. That is where things stand. "I haven't spoken with anyone else, nor do I want to. "No-one has spoken about a deadline. "

At least there quotes now and not just speculation! Im hearing strong rumours that Owen+ Cash for Rio is going to happen!?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

There are a lot of rumors flying around that Man U wants to buy Micheal "come get me" Owen.
