Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Now you and Arse have gone into Essien too! :(

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

To be fair, Arsenal were interested in Essien before anyone. And then it was Man Utd. So technically, Chelsea are the ones that are stealing our targets, we're not stealing yours.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

So who would you guys prefer, Ballack or Essien? I'm still with Ballack, definitely in the short term, possibyl in the long term too. I'm curious to see how Essien adapts to a new system/league. I know he's done well in the few champions league matches he's played in, but that's just th enot hte same. You couldn't ask for someone any mroe proven than Ballack.

Plus Essien in = no more shot for Smithy, and I really like the guy ;)

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I agree. Ballack would also give you more goals and also a new freekick taker.
But wouldnt it be nice to rob Essien from under Chelsea's nose? The only reason I'd want Essien is because it wold piss Chelsea off and cuz he's still very young.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Well actually, Man U and Arsenal did back down from Essien, and thats what i was saying, they are coming back now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I personally dont want Essien. I get a feeling he'll be like another Kezman or Drogba.

He's definately not worth it and extremely overrated. What exactly makes him so special?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Actually if you compared Drogbas goal to starts ratio, its pretty good..
Kezman was a failure in England, whether it came down to luck or skill, i dont know.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Again you dont get my point do you?
Drogba and Kezman were far better at their old clubs than at their new club.
Essien will probably be the same.

lol for 24mill drogba is terrible, how many goals did he score last year, did he do 15-20, I dont think so...

Kezman is better player than Drogba but didnt really get the oppurtunity, he'll score a bagful for A.Madrid.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Depends on how you look at it! yes hes a flop but statistcly?:-
---------------Starts---goals-- assists
Didier Drogba ---18( 8 )---10-------5
RVN------------16( 1 )----6-------1
Wayne Rooney- 24( 5 )---11-------3

If the money is there and Ferguson still doesn't buy Owen (or someone just as good) I'll seriously start doubting if the guy is still thinking straight.

yeah stats can show things in a different light...

but the guy was shite for the money spent IMO, but saying that Chelsea won the league so and he got a medal so what do I know.

Rooney was great for us last year and we didnt win anything so there you go.

Speaking of the boy wonder, his 2nd goal was class, he's gonna be vital for us this year!

First of all, we cant compare Ruud in all this cuz that was one bad season. Over several seasons, Ruud is one of the best in Europe.
As for Rooney, he played on the wing and not up front all the time like Drogba.

And we're drifting away from the point here. Drogba isnt worth his price tag just like how Essien isnt either. How dumb are Chelsea for making the same mistake again?

You dont have to even argue the point mate, Ruuds CL record and Rooney's potential are there to be seen.

Drogba had a decent season in France and as with most things chelsea related if its the flavour of the month then they want it.

I rate Essien, and with him being young anything around the £20mill tag is about right, cos its chelsea they've slapped another £10mill on top, similar to how Leeds did us with Rio and Everton did us with Rooney.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

All im saying is that he had an average season/
Also, he had his share of injuries too.

Also, Chelsea really did not have a budget on Drogba, so for other clubs 24M would have counted him as a failure, not to Chelsea though.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

TBH from what i saw of Drogba the season before i was expecting him to do well over here! Back on the Owen front fo you think if you were to get him...It should mean a revert back to the 4-4-2!?

okay dude we get the message, we'll see how he does this year....

and dont kid yourself on the "24mill is nothing to chelsea" all that money's gotta be paid be back fella, the money for seba, crespo and drogba hasnt been written off, Roman hasnt got this wealthy by giving money away.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

£10million is fair for Owen. I'm getting excited.

I know what you mean, I thought he'd storm it over here aswell..

I didnt think Fergie would play 4-4-2 anymore but if Owen signs he's gonna have to rethink cos a partnership of any of the strikers could be leathel.

United turn down £2m bid for Kleberson
Monday, August 1, 2005

from Besiktas

Fergie

"We had another, improved offer from Besiktas, but at the moment we know his value. He is a very good player, an excellent footballer and he is wanting first-team football so we're prepared to listen to some offers."

MEN reckon it's Ballack
Monday, August 1, 2005

'MANCHESTER United are edging closer to the signing of Michael Ballack to sweeten the pill of Malcolm Glazer's takeover.

Reds' chief executive David Gill is intent on a public relations offensive to try to win over supporters still angry at the American tycoon's £790m buy-out.

Sir Alex Ferguson sees Ballack, who would cost around £9m, as the ideal replacement for Roy Keane in the United engine room.

The two clubs are believed to have discussed a possible deal when their paths crossed in the Far East during their pre-season tours - at one point Ballack was staying in the same hotel as United.

The 28-year-old is in dispute with Bayern over a new contract, and with his current deal due to run out next summer, the Reds are watching the situation carefully.

They may even be prepared to wait until the January transfer window

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

If we go back to 4-4-2, maybe the Owen move would be for the best regardless of how well Owen himself plays.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Anyone have any concern that Owen will have spent 10 years of his football life hating man united? I know he's the 'model professional' but being at Liverpool thats just ingrained into you from when you arrive, and for him that was at a very young age. Has he ever actually expressed any desire to be at Old Trafford?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Unlike Gerrard who actually didnt want to move to Old Trafford, Owen hasnt said anything about it. I'm sure he doesnt care.

A lot of people say that if you went directly from Liverpool to Man Utd, then theres a problem but cuz he went from Madrid to Man Utd, its a slightly different matter.
The fact that he left Liverpool in the first place proves that Liverpool doesnt mean everything to him anyway.

As did Smith at Leeds but do the fams care?

No because if they show passion n enjoy playing for the club who bloody cares. I would welcome Owen, Gerrard(never gonna happen) or anyone who wants to join.
And he has said that he will only come back to England to either Liverpool or Mna U, Liverpool dont want him so the logical choice is????

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Its only a matter of time before we sign Owen. Its bound to happen. I dont see why it wouldnt. Cuz if we dont buy him, who else will? And if no one buys him, is Owen even gona want to wait a minute at Real where theres 4 strikers above him?
