Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

If we played a 4-4-2 with Rooney and Ruud, there might not have been a problem. But now we need someone like Owen.

Yup!

And Rooney can drop bak into midfield!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

This tour if anything has again showed our lack of killer instinct in front of goal, the main reason we finished last season empty handed. The forward positions need freshening up, simple as.Ruud has been guaranteed a starting position, but his current form does'nt warrant one, Saha has had spells of looking good but is inconsistent and always injured.Smudger looks like he's being groomed into a DMF and Ole's not back till October if we're lucky. That just leaves us with Rooney who at the moment is'nt even being played as an out and out striker. The club needs a huge lift, PR wise, fan wise and most importantly player wise,in my opinion we should move heaven and earth to bring Owen to OT.So he played for the mickey mousers, so what? would you rather see him at the Arse bandits or Roman's house of Rubles?

Yeah bid has been made.

Certainly looks like it either has or will be soon.

BBC news - Real 'will allow Owen to leave'

"Manchester United are set to head the race with an £11m bid for Owen, according to reports."

"Ferguson might have to sell players to finance the move, with midfielders Phil Neville and Kleberson possible candidates along with striker Louis Saha." - Much as many of you have been saying.

Also says, as you guys have been saying, Arse-n-hole are likely to want him, Newcastle too but 'but they cannot offer Owen Champions League football.', and L'pool now have Crouch so prolly wont want him back now.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Boro have reportedly made a £3.5m bid for Phil Neville, at that price i'd seriously consider selling him, i'd also accept about 2 quid for klebbers too.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I really dont want to see Phil Neville leave. The manager doesnt want him to leave. But if a offer comes along, I can understand the situation.

But how come someone like Miller can stay and not Phil?
Surely selling Saha and Kleberson would be enough to finance atleast half of the Owen deal.
If we want Ballack as well, I dont think Glazer would be willing to splash out big money for him cuz he doesnt fall into the Must-buy category like Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, etc.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Fergie Grabs Owen
Manchester United want to rescue Michael Owen from Real Madrid. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has told the Glazer family, the new owners at Old Trafford, that he wants to cut a deal for Owen. The England striker is available if United meet the £11million buy-out clause in Owen's contract. But the Glazers have made it clear they expect Fergie to raise funds by selling his own misfits from Old Trafford.

Owen S.O.S
Michael Owen is praying for Manchester United or Liverpool to save him from the soccer wilderness. What is certain is that Owen has no future at Real Madrid after the Spanish giants yesterday confirmed the £35million arrival of Brazilian duo Julio Baptista AND Robinho. A close pal said: "Michael is not prepared to spend a season sitting on the bench in Spain, especially as this is a World Cup year."

Ballack's To You Fergie
Sir Alex Ferguson has started his move for German superstar Michael Ballack. And Fergie is confident the 29-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder will be a Manchester United player before the start of the Premiership season. I can reveal that United have decided to make the pursuit of the £9million Bayern Munich star their top priority.

Boro Swoop For Phil
Phil Neville is set to quit Manchester United for Middlesbrough in a £3.5million deal. The England international has been offered the chance to team up again with former Old Trafford assistant manager Steve McClaren at the Riverside and is expected to complete the move this week. Sir Alex Ferguson has told the versatile 28-year-old that his first-team chances at United will once again be limited.

Some transfer stories from manutd.com's what the papers say....
Its getting real now is it...Ballack and Owen for United.
Phil cant go,he is an essential to our first team.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Why dont they get rid of Miller? Phil on MUTV says he's happy with his situation at Man Utd and isnt desperate for first team football. Plus he can put on great performances when needed which some players at our club like Kleberson cant do.
If we sell Miller, Kleberson and Saha, I'm sure that would be close to £11million.
Then we use the rest of Glazer's money for Ballack.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

We need Owen, he should be the top priority not Ballack, he would be nice but our midfeild is okay for another season or two IMO.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

If Smith actually is good enough to play at the highest leve in DMF, what we would we do with Ballack?
---------VDS---------------
-Gary--Rio---Other--Gaby---
----------Smith------------
---Ballack-------Scholes---
-Ron---------------Park----
-----------RVN-------------

But then no Rooney/2nd striker. Or I guess he could replace scholes/smith. Or maybe we'd stop playing both wingers, but that's not United style. Strongest possible team as I see it:

------------VDS------------
---Gary--Rio--Pique--Gaby--
--------Ballack------------
-----------Scholes---------
-Ronaldo-----------Giggs---
---------------------------
------RVN------Rooney------

With Owen, Smith Keane and Park available as subs.
Still the thought of actually getting Ballack and Owen...mmmmmm....

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

--------------VDS------------
Gary---Rio---------Pique--Heinze
------------Ballack-----------
Park----------------------Giggs
----------Ronaldo-----------
------RVN---------Rooney------

Why not the traditional 4-4-2 diamond with Ronaldo as a playmaker.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Pique isnt ready for the firstteam and Keane will still be there next year no doubt, pobably with Smith possibly steping in against the so called lesser oposition!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

And how would u know? Hes been great so far during the pre-season and asian tour.He is more composed than Silvestre and is awesome playing alongside Rio.Sir Alex the other night gave a glowing review on MUTV,even better than Rossi's.He should make a step up next season,no doubt.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

yeah, i thought pique was really good throughout the tour. a very composed defender and great tackler of the ball. rossi looked out of position and tired. he lost the ball on many occasions. rossi played well in one of the friendly matches, scoring a good goal and showing some skill to assist van nistelrooy.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Keane is pretty old so I'm guessing Smith will play quite often.

Well see! But great going a bit to far for any of your players on this tour, When your manager and players are talking up not losing a game all season i then find it hard to believe that youd risk a inexpierenced Cb in any Premiership games!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

That is true but once players are injured in the back, I'm sure he'd be one of the players that steps up.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Personally i thik Silvestre is overrated- he makes too many stupid mistakes.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

He definately is. But right now the defence isnt the priority cuz its arguably our biggest strength ATM.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Not sure if this is old or not..

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/4730405.stm

Real Madrid are ready to open the door for England striker Michael Owen to return to the Premiership.

Manchester United are set to head the race with an £11m bid for Owen, according to reports.

Owen has been pushed down the pecking order at the Spanish giants following the arrival of Brazilians Robinho and Julio Baptista.

Owen's former club Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle have also been linked with the 25-year-old forward.

A senior source at Real told the Sunday Times they would not stand in Owen's way if they received a bid for him.

The source said: "Michael is popular with the fans and he is popular within the club.

"But if he comes to us and says he believes the best thing for him is to leave, we will have to respect that.

"He has been a great servant to us, we will treat him with the utmost decency and respect.

"And in the event that he decides to go, while obviously looking out for our own interests, we will be sure to look out for his too."

Despite scoring 16 goals in his first season at Real following his move from Liverpool, Owen spent many games on the bench.

And with the World Cup less than a year away, he could decide to move on rather than face the prospect of fighting for a place with Raul, Ronaldo, Robinho and Baptista.

A transfer to Manchester United would bring Owen together with his England strike partner Wayne Rooney, although it would prove unpopular with Liverpool fans.

Ferguson might have to sell players to finance the move, with midfielders Phil Neville and Kleberson possible candidates along with striker Louis Saha.

Arsenal could also be tempted to move for him, having seen Baptista taken from under their noses by Real after coming close to sealing a £14m move.

The £7m arrival of Peter Crouch at Liverpool makes it unlikely manager Rafael Benitez would consider taking Owen back to Merseyside. Newcastle are in the market for a striker, but they cannot offer Owen Champions League football.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Yep thats old. Well not old cuz it was posted today but we already know.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

I still don't know how I feel about Owen. Maybe its just that I want it to be true, but I can't believe Ruud has lost it. He was too good, even after a year of virtually not playing at all (with his ACL injury before joining us). Bringing Owen in signals an end to his time IMO, cause Rooney Owen combo has to be on the minds of a lot of people, including Sven and SAF. I keep hoping he'll get back to his ways, and its not like he's all that old, theres no reason for him not to have a few more years. But then, maybe Owen's style is better suited to us now, as not nearly as many crosses for Ruud to turn in. I guess having both would be better than no Owen and a misfiring Ruud, but I'm still banking on the dutchman to come good...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

Just a food for thought.IF both Owen and Ballack came, what numbers would they get? First team numbers are already taken out but I dont think they are registered yet, unless some changes are made,Ballack and Owen would get weirdo numbers.

Well we kick Saha out and give Owen the number 9.
Not sure about Ballack

And theres a lot of speculation going around today that Sir Alex has been given permission to sign Owen if he wants to. So its all down to Fergie.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread - Owen wants move!

United chief executive David Gill said: 'The money is there for Alex.If he identifies a talent that he thinks will improve the squad - and that is the crucial thing - the funds are available. The Glazers have said that if there is a big player out there who is available, then the money is there to go for him.We can still afford a lot of money for top players and at the same time we are also able to develop many of our own.'

This should be a confidence booster for all of us today.C'Mon United, bring on the great news.
