And I remember earlier this season, against Sunderland I think, and United fans were all up in arms about Gerrard not being sent off for an elbow.

Again, that's not too bad either for United fans but Gerrard does an elbow and it's an outrage.

As Abou says, fickle fan shocker. Rather than go crazy and call Carragher for all kinds for that tackle (which was bad) and accuse him of being some kind of psycho, maybe some perspective is needed and look at your own players who hardly set a great example either.

I didn't say examples of when he did bad tackles - definitely not denying that. But everyone makes out like he's left a long history of injured players in his wake - both of the videos you showed both players kept playing the whole match.

He's a rubbish tackler, there's no denying that. As a United fan it's sad to see. But I'm honestly trying to remember the last time he actually injured someone.

I take you have the same feeling about your players that can't tackle? A nice lil leg break for Jack Wilshere on the cards? (who is the most Scholes-esque young player in the league in terms of 'jumping in')

Listen, thinking about this I realise it does come across slightly ridiculous - yes Scholes is a danger and I don't doubt there's a very nasty competitive streak in him that is the cause of these tackles.

But, I also honestly believe that:
1. He gets punished for it - he already has 10 cards this season, after committing about 20 fouls - it's not like he often gets away with it (as he did on Saturday)
2. He's not 'that type of player' that injures people. There are a few players you can say comfortably do - the Shawcross model - and he's not one of them

His fouls are cynical and nasty, but they rarely hurt people. That was my point.

yes i do. i was shocked when wilshere did stupid tackles like that. he has carmed down a lot over the last few months

For the record I haven`t heard any headline about schole`s tackle only Wenger blew it bits. You seem gunho and defending his honour .Most Arsenal fans are quick to condemn our players just read through the thread!

something no one seems to have picked up on with regards to scholes.
that yellow he received was his 10th of the season, hence he will miss the bolton(h) and west ham(a).

could it be that he deliberately tried to get booked to get the suspension out of the way so he's fresh as a daisy from april forward?

Someone mentioned earlier that if he'd been sent off he'd only have a one match ban, so wouldn't have thought so.

On a side note, Ashley Cole SHOT someone and got less media attention than both the Rooney & Carragher incidents. How the f**k does that work?

because scholes hasn't been sent off so far this season if he got his marching orders against arsenal (for anything other than violent conduct) he would have a one game ban - but would that "reset" his yellow card tally? or would he still be one yellow away from a automatic 2 game ban?

i'm not 100% sure how it would work in that scenario.

also yeah the ashley cole incident was crazy, have no idea how it didn't get more column inches, doesn't make sense either, it's not as if the media don't love reporting dirt on him.

Hrm, should be interesting tonight. No Rio nor Vidic - and we saw how that went at Liverpool. No Fletcher either, so not a lot of shield.

Apparently we have a very card happy ref, which is scary stuff when we have Rafael in our team. We've only had 3 yellows in the whole competition so far, would be typical for us to screw that up now.

Anywho, if we can't beat Marseille at home we don't deserve to be going any further. Here's to hoping Berbatov FINALLY scores in Europe, and we're not undone by a flukey, deflected goal at the death (i'm looking at you Lille!!!)

Half time at the moment - getting a bit worried. We dominated for a good stretch, but got leggy towards the end.

Love Giggs to bits, but he hasn't been very effective in the past few matches, and this one appears to be no exception. His lethargy is costing us players are running past him on his side of the pitch.

Well that was annoying.

We were poor, knew we would be playing Scholes in a 4-4-2 and playing Giggs as well. Thankfully Gignac and the rest of their forward line aren't very good so we survived.

Injuries are worrying as well.

Thankfully Rooney was excellent, Chicharito put the chances away and that'll do.

Lets just enjoy it until we get drawn against Barcelona.

Phew. I'll take it but seriously difficult.

Pros:
Rooney was immense. Best I've seen him play in as long as I can remember
Scholes ran the match. For 20 minutes
Valencia not only looked good, he looked brave and strong too - leaping into challenges. Clearly no mental problems
We're through

Cons:
Lost two more defenders, now potentially without Evans, Rio, Vida, Rafael and O'Shea
Giggs and Scholes had to play the whole 90, definitely not what they needed ahead of Bolton

Well done Rooney and Hernandez! And good to see him be cool and avoid unnecessary stupid fight with Diawara at end where things could've gotten ugly for no reason....

OM played Taiwo this time as I suggested they should've in 1st leg and you saw the effects. Nani couldn't do $hit but he was having fun with Heinze in the first leg. With Taiwo, he's just as fast and even stronger. Valencia came on and did more in his first 10 mins than Nani did in 70 mins but of course he was also fresh against a now more tired Taiwo.

The OM line up was good today as it should've been in first leg with Mbia in midfield and Heinze as CB and Taiwo and Cheyrou starting.

Lucho needs to look at himself. Wasteful delivers from Corner/FK when OM have all those big men up and real danger. At the end OM have themselves to blame. They had great chances too (Especially Gignac in first 15 mins and then Diawara open header from 6-yard!!) Difference is Man Utd and Chicharito put their two good chances away, DEschamps' men didn't. Deserved win for United at the end.

It was a close tight game at end as expected with neither team that comfortable over any of the two legs and but kinda disappointing for most part and just canceling each other out.

Brown got me so nervous the whole game. We don't look comfortable at all defensively without Vidic. I hope his injury's nothing serious.

Rooney and Hernandez were brilliant. Still, we were poor and I thought we were a bit lucky not too concede earlier. Oh well, let's just enjoy it.

And what a player Valencia is. Only came back a few days ago and it's as if he never left. I love this guy.

Maybe its just me but he seems better than I remember him being before the injury. But yeah, great to see Valencia back. He's come at the right time so we can finish the season in a big way.

And why do I get the feeling that we're gonna end up facing the winner of the Lyon/Madrid game? I just get a bad feeling its gonna turn out that way.

That was nail biting stuff.

Wesley Brown had us on the knife edge in so many moments throughout the game.He was a nervous wreck! Kinda reminded me of the Liverpool game but without Dirk Kuyt.I say shift him back to RB for Bolton at the weekend because Vida should be back.

Rooney looked like a man without a burden when Chicharito plays infront of him.His vision is back on, his passes were sublime and he drifts into midfield to help out too.Perfect player in the hole to have.It has been said that we are still looking for Paul Scholes successor when he retires but I personally believe we already got that player in Wayne Rooney.

lol I was thinking the same thing! The way Rooney's been delivering ridiculously delicious angled, 50-yard through-balls in the past few games, I couldn't help but think this guy looks more like Paul Scholes than any other United player lol.

His passing has improved astonishingly! Reminds me of last season when we saw this guy look like the new Alan Shearer with such improved 'heading'.

Rooney was starting to play like that the last season Saha was around - but then got moved to accomodate Tevez/Berba/Ronaldo. If he can be that kind of provider it'd be fantastic - but you need a 'real' striker to be in front of him.

Not sure what that says for Berbatov :(

As a model professional...Berbatov has to understand that a manager cant leave out a person on form or a talisman who has regained his confidence....Hernandez and Rooney are now on a hot streak.

All Berbatov can do is wait for his chance and deliver the goods when delivered.Its tough but thats what he is paid for.

Options, Berbatov will start most games in the league but I think we might start using this system for the big games from now on (atleast for the rest of this season)

Rooney was pretty sensational in that role but he might also be the reason we struggled in the middle, Maybe it'll work even better with Anderson and Carrick and maybe Park/Valencia tucking in instead of Giggs.

5 match ban for Fergie following comments after Chelsea. My views (from letter which may/ may not be in F365)

I don’t really like Sir Alex. Respect his achievements, of course, and acknowledge that he is one of the best in the world at his profession, sure – but like? No. He’s generally offensive, deliberately mischievous and often acts more like a 7 year old than a 70 year old.

That said, I’m not sure what the FA are really after here. A 5 game ban, at the most important part of the season, for literally one word. And for the vast majority of people who have only heard second hand how it was said, he basically immediately realises what he’s said and backtracks to replace ‘fair’ with ‘strong’. This said on the in-house media channel, in the heat of a defeat which was damaging and at least partly due to inept refereeing favouring one team – by a referee that has now done the same in 3 consecutive fixtures to United.

This current ban just shows you – even in the heat of a very heated moment managers are not even allowed one split second of wavering of absolute political correctness, even to a non-public media source.

Perhaps more worryingly than all of that, however, is that MUTV have confirmed the FA never requested a copy of Fergie’s comments. That’s right, they charged him without any actual evidence, purely on second hand reports, of course from the non-biased, moderate and always politically correct media.
