Manchester United Thread

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Great win for the youngsters at Anfield today. Down 2-0 came back to win 3-2, and that in spite of some very, very strange officiating. Only bad news is that said officiating means Paul Pogba will miss at least one of the semi final matches against Chelsea.

His crime? He stutter stepped in a penalty. Yep, sent off for that. The ref clearly didn't realise it was a second yellow, as it took him about 2 minutes (and lots of Liverpool players) to remind him that he'd harshly booked Pogba in the first minute.

Apparently it violates the gentlemanly conduct thing, but sending off a 17 year old for that? Clearly some mean football stole that ref's toys when he was in the sandbox...

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Eh? hasn't Ronaldo been doing that since god knows how long?

Yep. Ref ruled he stopped for too long, and made them retake it, and sent him off. No idea what rule that is or how the ref can justify it. Then again, refs never have to justify anything, so who knows.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

The stutter thing is a bit weird. I think you can slow your pace down so it looks like you've stopped your run-up but if you actually stop, it's illegal.

Something like that anyway.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

I know it was definitely banned in the last World Cup and officials were told to give yellow cards to players who did that.

I wonder if the ref would have given him a yellow had he realized Pogba was already under the book.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Must be that then. Still ridiculous for a Youth Cup game. Have a word ref.

Apparently Rio and Owen Hargeaves MAY be in full training today. Mental to think that we have Valencia (fully), Park, Hargreaves, Anderson, Rio and Mickey Owen to come back. That's the spine of a very good team.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

What happened to Nani being out for a month?

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Carrick, Scholes and Gibson in the centre then and Valencia or Nani starting with the other coming on (probably that order)

I wouldn't mind playing Rooney in the same role as Arsenal with Hernandez uptop and just "Upgrade" the rest with the above and Giggs.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

It would be good to use Hargreaves when/if available, say if 2-0 up or something and bring him on for the last 20mins or so. Just to see how he is!

That picture just looks strange

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

 Nani Recovers quickly = wasn't a leg breaker of a challenge?

No that's not how it works, all credit to Nani but it was an attempted Leg breaker and a disgraceful challenge.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

2. What a f'n stupid psycho he's become. Two HORRENDOUS challenges aimed to hurt opponents. Could've been sent off twice! VERY lucky to stay on the pitch. You'd think an experienced campaigner like him can keep control of his emotions a little better especially in a match that's already won and doesn't need silly things like that, but no....

Interesting.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

No it was definitly a red card, I'm refering to Ferguson going on about it and exaggerating (read: lying) the situation. Two days ago it was a month out, as that gives more substance to the disgracefull tackle comment. Now he's in the squad for the Marseille match.

all credit to Nani

Indeed, he must have superhuman powers of recuperation for his skin to magically heal...A bit like that girl in Heroes. ;)

Interesting.

Indeed. I'd love that long list of players he's hurt.

But I can't recall a single one in the past few years. His reputation precedes him at this point. He doesn't get one challenge, he gets booked instantly, for anything.

Arsenal match case in point - Wilshere's 'tackle' on him which he retaliated to was worse than his, and had a Nasri hand to the face in between. How excited the media must have been to have something to talk about other than a convincing United win.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

So it's only bad if the player is hurt. That goes along with Fabio's tackle being fine because Lucas got out of the way too.

I see now!

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

If a Utd player did the Maxi "shocker", you wouldn't be saying a thing.

And you all say Liverpool fans are blinkered

At the end of the day, Scholes is one of the worst tacklers in the league, consistently putting in horrible tackles, but that's fine. Again, if a Liverpool player had the same tackling "style" and cards for what he's done, you'd all be up in arms.

Tinted glasses and all of that.

Thing is the match was never really heated until he try to afflict injury . Anyways it might be wrong to come in here an point things out on your lots. I just thing it`s wrong to say Jack provoke it. btw I hope Mutd goes through :))

Not at all, but for all the pundits and oppositions fans saying every tackle he does is dangerous and likely to injure someone, I just wonder why he's gone so many years without having done just that.

Maybe it's because they're not as bad as the reputation.

There was no reason for him to make either of those tackles, but the only reason anyone is even talking about them is because it's Scholes and it's United. Even if it had been Darren Gibson there'd be nothing said.

Thanks for starting the vid after Wilshere's tackle, but what do you think of it then? Straight legged, misses the ball at shin height? It's almost exactly the same as Scholes all of 4 seconds later - main difference being Scholes gets the ball. Where are the pundits demanding a yellow card for Wilshere?

Oh that's right, only Scholes should have gone. Face it, it's the one Ginger haired straw that's left for desperate London media to cling onto to defend Arsenal's week of capitulation. It's not a talking point. It's a nothing challenge in the 92nd minute of a finished match that has no repercussions whatsoever. No one is hurt, no opportunity was lost, nothing happened.

And yet, it was a lead story on certain 'unbiased' websites.

(also, not sure about your eyes, but Nasri definitely reaches out to Scholes' head (maybe side of hte face, apologies for that) and gives it a nice little shove while Scholes is looking the other way - hence his reaction. But that's the kind, honest, premier league discipline table runners up Arsenal, so can't possibly be foul play)

YouTube - UCL Final 09 Barcelona - Manchester Scholes brutal tackle

That's not too bad then, and that's a quick look on Youtube.

And I remember earlier this season, against Sunderland I think, and United fans were all up in arms about Gerrard not being sent off for an elbow.

YouTube - Makelele-Scholes

Again, that's not too bad either for United fans but Gerrard does an elbow and it's an outrage.

As Abou says, fickle fan shocker. Rather than go crazy and call Carragher for all kinds for that tackle (which was bad) and accuse him of being some kind of psycho, maybe some perspective is needed and look at your own players who hardly set a great example either.

Re: Manchester United Supporters Thread.

Yep VdS made one tiny mistake other than so cool, so calm, experienced. What a goalie!

Smalling getting better and better.

Valencia back and looks good already!!

Chicharito's movement and pace is scary! Good header of the ball it seems too! Could've done better overall today though and should've scored a goal. Still learning, whatever....

So many positives, you guys are right. This was a very good match for United.

As for Scholes, two things must be said.

1. What a legend! What a player! In his 10 mins or so on the field, he delivered 4 AMAZING throughballs, two of which at least should've been scored (1 by Rooney and 1 Hernandez), what an impact!

So I'm very proud of him for his impressive performance and also very disappointed in him from a sporting view.

Oh and Wayne Rooney, Man of the match of course! If only he'd finished off that great chance at the end, he could've got perfect marks! Fantastic performance!

scholes is a dirty piece of shit. i hope someone breaks his fucking leg. shocking he was last weekend.
